Hi,
This should hopefully be a simple question: is the cable inside DK32 same as in DK30 and DK31?
I'm looking at buying the Z1 compact, but I need to be able to charge it without using the dock or opening the plugs/covers. I'm not taking the risk of using Real Fake cables from ebay, so the only option for me is to use the one from a stripped dock.
There are a lot of websites describing how easy it is to remove the EC21 cable from the DK30 and DK31, and a lot of separate websites reckoning that the cable inside the DK32 is the same. However, I have googled hard and have not found one directly stating that:
EITHER the cable inside DK30, DK31 and DK32 is all the same EC21 and therefore it doesn't matter which dock I buy and strip
OR the cable inside the DK32 is different, but it is just as easy to remove without damaging the cable (I don't mind smashing the dock, I won't use it)
While I'm here, it would also be good to hear people's experiences of using the Z1 or Z1 compact in the rain. Is it actually any better than all the other touch screen phones? Or does it start playing up as soon as it has two raindrops on it? I work outdoors and live in the UK, where it basically rains most of the time you need to do something on your phone outside!
Thanks,
pateksan

As far the magnetic cable is concerned, all the devices have it of the same size which pretty much makes it all the same just the dock sizes might vary

@pateksan
I have DK30 (for a ultra) and DK32, which it's for Z1C
I will make a few assumptions from your question, so please correct me if I am wrong.
You say that you want to use z1c without a dock, meaning maybe you already know which case for z1c you want to use, which unfortunately does not allow you to use the dock. Or maybe it is for travel purpose, because you want to avoid carrying the bulky dock.
Unfortunate, because one of the attractions of recent xperia devices is the dock. Using magnetic connector directly is less stable and more fiddly.
Anyway, DK30 and DK32 are not the same. DK31 and DK30 use the same cable, EC21, but in DK32 EC21 is not included. There is dock only, and you need to use the micro usb cable provided with the phone to connect to the charger. So if you need ec21, do not buy dk32.
And to get the ec21 out of the dock... my 5 year old son can do it if he was to watch YouTube video on how to do it. Very simple.

I'm searching for an Active Car Holder (Cradle / Dock) for the ACRO S.
with the DK200 Charger Cradle Dock it is easy to Charge the Acro at home.
So do I stick the DK200 into the car. or there is a better possibility.
I would need exactly the same. Only problem is that the desktop cradle holds the phone vertically, but I need it on my dashboard horizontally. For watching TED, navigation, etc.
Options I found so far:
- buy another desktop cradle ($10 on ebay), cut it into two and modify it so the connectors come out from the bottom --> would be ugly I am afraid
- buy a cradle for another phone from KIDIGI , and try to push Acro S into that. For example Xperia S or HTC Incredible has very similar sizes, but I cannot test if it fits unless I buy one... and then I would need to hack it as well to put the connector pins to the bottom
I don't like either options... if anyone would have any other ideas, please let me know

Sorry for being out of topic, but for the cradle, do we just pull out the phone, cause it seems like I am going to break either one every time I do it.
I built my own active cradle ...
I bought a cheap hard case from ebay and I modified it so the phone will get in and out easy, then I glued on it some springs for the power connections and I also installed a micro-usb port so I can use any regular car charger with a micro-usb connector.
I also attached to it a suction cup with a multi-angle orientation leg.
I used epoxi resin to put everything together and the final device is extremely functional. I still have to build a case around the springs and micro-usb connector in order to have it "like from the factory".
I'll attach some photos tomorrow (currently the holder is in the car and outside is raining ... not to mention is midnight here )
yeah please please photos - can not sleep before
The photos, as promised
As I already said, is still work in progress (regarding the finishing of the case around the springs and the microusb port) but it is 100% functional.
VERY GREAT WORK :good:
From which Telephone is the cheap hard case?
Which Material are the springs?
This is the exact case I bought (but you can find even cheaper): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300795656907
As for the springs, those are from a battery holder. you can use even the spring from a mechanical pen.

Nice! Would like to mimic that.
I have a USB cable wih plug that I could glew to the back of a cradle, like you did. But what wires from the cable should be connected to the phone? And also, does anyone have any thoughts on the voltage and current that the Acro S expects on that connection? Regular USB values or a bit more?
Frank
Good
Very great work
I know the stock charger is 5v 1.5amp

only a passiv holder. No active car-holder. You must put the USB-Charger extra.

Hi, I've recently bought micro USB slot - the same as in the picture, but I can't connect it, I do not know which pin is the power supply. I tried 1 and 5, but it did not work. :crying: Does anyone can help me?

Hi everyone
I recently came across a post where a Z1C owner mentioned that to prevent the phone from losing its "water resistance", he bought the DK32 magnetic charging dock for his phone. That made me worried, will charging the phone using USB cable everyday make the phone less water resistance? What could possibly be his/her reason behind this? The only benefit I could think of the DK32 is to make charging the phone much easier and comfortable while able to rest the phone for watching movies and stuff..... So my question is, is there a durability/longevity difference between charging the phone using USB cable or magnetic dock?
Thanks everyone :good:

The manual says that. The protector of the USB connector, has some o-ring that make the phone waterproof. So, using it too much, will gone a damage the waterproof capabillies of the phone...
There is a cheaper charging cable which works very well so no need to spend extra bucks on the dock. I use it on my Z1c and it works very well.

Using USB cable everday means that you have to frequently open the USB Cover flap. If the seal ring of the USB cover flap worn, the water resistance will lose until you replace a new one.
Hi,
I just received my Sony Smartwatch 3 and something looks weird to me. The charger plug is located in a not convenient location. So I'm wondering if an inductive charging is possible and what charger model would be compatible.
Thx.
no chance. Just have to fiddle with that bad boy. a cradle would help. I'd think a third party could develop a qi charging plate/case that you could leave plugged in. Something like this but sized correctly.
I really wonder why they didn't put magnetic charging contacts on one of the edges of the watch unit. Would have been so convenient since I already have Sony docks and USB cables with magnetic ends.
See I completely disagree. I like the fact that Sony have just made the charging by micro USB. So I only have to carry one charger that does my watch, phone and tablet. The positioning of the port is inconvenient, but I believe it is where it is so it is unseen and doesn't rub against your wrist. What they really need to package with the watch is a cable that is a decent length that has a right angle plug at the watch end to make it easier to insert.
This made my life a little easier:

Well they probably could have done both, I would have liked Qi as an option in addition to the uUSB. But oh well. I counted it as a trade off for the nascent nfc and wifi.

I have one and it is much easier.
Getting a znaps magnetic adapter for micro USB to try on my sw3. If it works, it will make charging much easier. I only worry that it will make the watch no longer waterproof.

Yesterday, I took my new Smartwatch 3 and inserted a Cisno Ultra Micro USB Magnetic Adapter Charger Cable. It works! What's more, even with the charging port's rubber flap bent backward, my wrist can't feel any difference; I'm using the metal (stainless steel) band and don't own the rubber band to test it with.
Here's a stock photo of the Cisno adapter attached to a phone:
I assume that any magnetic adapter that looks like this will work; in fact, the Cisno turned out to be a Wsken. That irked me: I specifically bought the Cisno because the seller claimed it's strictly for charging, not for data, and I didn't want to risk that my Sony watch or my Sony Z Ultra GPE phone would interpret the charger to be in data mode. In any case, the watch's battery charged rapidly, going from 1% to 100% in about 25 minutes.
For anyone who is considering the Sony Smartwatch 3 but finds micro-USB charging too much trouble, a magnetic charger is a game changer. Just remember that it requires a proprietary 3ft cable; you'll probably want to buy extra kits so you'll have additional cables for the office, the car, and your travel kit. I haven't found kits that offer a longer cable.

Very nice idea thank you I bought one !
Received mine
Really very very easy to use and plug the sw3 for charge. It does not even bother wrist. Also very usefull for a phone in car, easiest to connect the usb cable in the dark.
Great idea. Thanks. Search were I van buy it in the Netherlands.
Will it work, with Apple chargers for the macbook air?
Verzonden vanaf mijn iPad met Tapatalk
I bought it in ebay.
This model is a mini usb port. I see also some model for iphone and ipad
Looks like a winner.
Just got mine - putting the adapter into the MicroUSB port was kind of scary as you have to press really hard (and might break something). I am really happy in the end though - makes charging so much easier.
I got mine from Tinydeals for under $4. I can confirm, the adapter doesn't bother me. All I need now is to find a replacement metal band.
clever! would it affect the water resistance though, having the rubber flap open like that? I went for the right-angled micro usb cord and it has been great so far.
certainly broke water resistance
Hi All,
My flap is becoming loose, so i have decided to go for a charging dock, however Sony doesn't sell it at their webstore anymore, so I was wondering if there is any way to distinguish between a fake and a genuine Sony DK48 dock?
I found 2 links online and there is a price difference between both:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-ori...-Black-for-Xperia-Z3-Z3-Compact-/281809277276
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1100332-REG/sony_1289_6299_dk48_magnetic_charging_dock.html
Is there a way to find out if the eBay one is genuine?
Also, Do i go for one of those budget magnetic cables? I don't want to burn my phone due to unstable charging just to save a few bucks.
Regards,
CD
Both of them seem to be genuine. It's just a matter of price, one will sell the same thing for more... just to earn more
I think you shouldn't get any magnetic cables at all. Magnetic port is built inside the dock, you only have to plug the microusb cable to the dock, it's a sure connection. I also plan to buy one of these, my Xperia is pretty new (manufactured on 15W32) but that flap thing is starting to piss me off, I BARELY plug my phone to the computer and also I never use it while charging so why should I ever bother with opening that damn flap?
Buy a new flap on eBay, easy to pull out and push new one in. I bought docks from aliexpress, work great with a blackberry playbook charger from Amazon
Hi.. i recently bought a magnetic cable from an local online store for $5.5. It said to be original from sony.
But the magnet is not so strong, so it's easily loose whenever i pick up the phone.
Does the original one fits and tights properly? I think mine is not.
How to differentiate the original or not?
Thanks. Please share your experience. Or maybe if you have 3rd party cable, can you recommend me a good brand which is not so expensive?

A cable with "Fifa World Cup Brasil" - themed box and when you open it, there's only a cable inside and nothing else? It's a fake.
There's no original magnetic cable, especially from Sony, every single one advertised as original... just isn't.
Magnetic port was originally designed ONLY for a charging dock, like Sony DK48, if we talk about the one compatible with Z3/Z3C.
I have one, recently bought it and I'm pretty satisfied. But the charging itself is slower, compared to the "traditional" - through microUSB. But, well, I just wanted not to open these frustrating flaps and I only charge the phone at night so I don't give a damn.
But if you still want a magnetic cable, there are a plenty of reviews of magnetic cables on YT.
I personally dropped the idea of buying magnetic cable only because not all of them are sure, so I bought magnetic charging dock.
@romcio47. Ah okay.. exactly like that..
How do you think about non original charging dock? It costs $9 in that store, much cheaper than original. Do you recommend this?
I'm thinking about, whether cable or dock, it's just a copper wire to distribute electricity..lol. can it be dangerous to use non ori one?
Not in case with charge adapters, the non ori one seems not stable.

I don't even know if I have an original one. It has Sony logo, it looks like an original one, works perfectly good, fits well but I bought it without the original box, it was sold -40% of original price!
The charging dock deliveres different voltage and amps than the charger itself due to a little circuit inside. It deliveres 5-9V DC and AFAIK 1.8A. There might be a danger if you use non-original one but as I told - I'm not even sure if I have original one but it works flawlessly

As it has been said, there is no original cable. Just the DK48 dock for about 18€
I also bought a cable connector and the magnet fell out after 10 minutes.
I suggest you get your money back or have it replaced by a working one. Better get money and buy a dock.
The fake dock i bought works flawlessly.
I think that Magnector-X-202 could be a Good cable
