[Q] Will a 4.3 ROM (like CM 10.2) work with the ND8 modem? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Currently running stock 4.4.2 (ND8) and looking to try out Cyanogenmod 10.2, which is 4.3
The only other phone I have any experience flashing ROMs on was a Sprint S2 (D710) and no custom ROMs were compatible with its Jellybean modem, so you had to flash an old modem separately. Is there any similar situation with this phone? Does it make any difference that I'm trying to flash a 4.3 ROM? I'm not very familiar with how that stuff works.

This will answer a lot of your questions.

But yes you can flash any ROM you like, still, but do not ever try to downgrade your modem (or bootloader) now that you're on the full Knox ND8 bootloader. You'll hard brick your phone if you do.
I have no personal experience with just how well the "old" ROMs work with the ND8 modem, FYI.

you can flash T-Mobile and at&t ROMs. just don't flash the modem from those carriers. typically most ROMs don't include the modem so you should be good.

[Q] ROM\Kernel Questions

Hi Everyone,
I'm currently rocking Wicked ROM v5 with SaberN3Kernel_10.7 on Android 4.3 and I have a few questions that I searched around for but couldn't find clear answers.
When I'm ready to upgrade to KitKat or whatever version is out by then, can I just use OTA update from T-Mobile or do I need to flash the stock ROM myself using ODIN?
If I ever wanted to flash a new custom ROM or a stock ROM would I still have Saber Kernel or would it get overwritten by whatever the new ROM came with?
Thanks In Advanced,
Art

1. If you are running g a custom ROM you will need to download the official version from sammobile.com and then flash using odin. The OTA does not work if using a custom ROM.
2. When you upgrade to 4.4 you will loose root and your kernel. It's just as easy to root 4.4 as it was 4.3. If you have a custom kernel and you flash a new ROM most of the time you are given a choice if you want to flash their kernel or not. If it does flash their kernel you can always reflash the one you want. Just as a side note, if you upgrade to 4.4 make sure your kernel is built for 4.4.

[Q] ND8 Worth upgrading

Good day,
I have seen some new TW ND8 ROMs and a few non TW ones. For those that made the jump do you think it's worth it? Normally I am all over new base band upgrades but since ND8 is balls in no turning back update I'd like some user feedback please.
Please include how long you have been on the update in your reply.
If I am missing something and you are able to Odin back to other base bands then great but if not....... :silly:
I appreciate the input.
Thanks.....
It was worth it to me.
Answer 3A here is what you want, as you did you just can't ever Odin anything but ND8 or NDC after, same for modem. Note if you try the NDC modem and WIFI doesn't work, you have to flash a custom kernel like Ktoonsez KT747.

Thanks for the info. What are your impressions. System speed, stability, data/wifi speeds, cellar reception...anything else you can think of compared to 4.4.2 KK ROM's? I am currently using Carbon, In the past I have used various KK/JB ROMs such as - Liquid Smooth, PA, Peoples... etc..etc...etc
You're welcome!
I can't compare to non-TouchWiz, I haven't used AOSP/CM/PM, etc in a while, before TouchWiz 4.3 anyway. I really liked 4.3 but I'm liking absolutely everything about TouchWiz 4.4.2 even better.
IMHO, try Wicked X 7.0 after flashing the ND8 stock tar and the very latest Philz Touch Recovery. Flashing any ND8/NDC based ROM before flashing the stock tar will hard brick your phone.

If I was to use TW I would use wicked because it is a great ROM other than that I wouldn't use stock

thanks for the added info. And I agree all versions of wicked I have used in the past are great.

Once you Odin ND8 going back will hard-brick your phone. Personally I'm not a fan of it. If my phone shuts off for whatever reason, plugging it into a charger causes a kernel freeze & I have to pull the battery & unplug it in order to boot into my phone. This never happened to me on MK3 and I have yet to find a fix. I personally can't stand Touch Wiz. ND8's battery life seems to be better to me than MK3, though.
Thanks for the update as much info as possible helps.
i've been liking ND8 so far. It seems to be smoother than MK3. I haven't had any random freezes or hot reboots like I did before. For some reason, when i update apps on the play store, my phone would lag so bad it was unusable with MK3. With ND8, I can still multi-task and what not. Been getting great battery life on stock too. Check out the ND8 battery results thread for my screenshots
I also upgraded to N8 and have not have any problems. on MK3 my camera kept freezing (although that was a rom issue I think..) and some random reboots. Haven't had any and I have improved service in my area over someone else who didn't upgrade.
I appreciate the feedback, both positive and negative, I predict a weekend project coming up.

Help! Need Stock ROM for I747 running 4.4.4 custom ROM

I have a Galaxy S3, running a Slim Kat ROM with Android 4.4.4. I am need of a stock ROM that I could flash to my phone. When I try using Odin, predictably, it fails because the only stock ROM I can find is version 4.1. Does anyone have a stock ROM that would work? This phone was already rooted with a custom ROM when I bought it. I like the freedom and the absence of bloatware, but I have just had too many glitches. The battery life also seems worse with custom ROMS (I've tried several), and it wasn't good to start with. So, I would like to put a stock ROM on here.
if its an att (i747) see this post , it might help
