Selling Nexus 7 for 2013 version?

Worth Selling Nexus 7 to buy the 2013 version? I don't know what to do?... Need some help.

Hell yes. I could never go back to my old Nexus 7 after buying the new one a few months ago. Everything on it is better: display, sound, performance, battery life, size/weight, etc/etc. I thought I might regret buying it since I already had the other (was wife's really, but she hardly ever used it), but I guarantee it's a MUCH better tablet than the 2012 model. I am very pleased with my new Nexus 7, and bet you will be too!

So u recommend me to sell it? The new Nexus still has the speaker problem? Btw I agree all that u say. I use the tablet for surfing and rarely gaming. I could see a lot of difference in gaming and surfing with the new one? Thx again!

I'm not not sure what this "speaker problem" is you're referring too, the speaker works fine on both my nexus 7s (2012 and 2013 models). But yes, the 2013 model is a solid upgrade. If you primarily use it for web browsing you might not see enough of a difference to justify the upgrade, but if you do much multitasking or play graphic intensive games its worth it for sure.
I can't bring myself to part with my 2012 N7, but since picking up the 2013 it has been resigned to being nothing more than an alarm clock.

You'll notice things look sharper and scrolling feels smoother.
The N7FHD doesn't have the blown speaker problem that some of the old N7's had. And no issues w/ the screen glue popping loose.
However, the N7FHDs can have other problems, including random reboots. I had to return my first one...same apps installed on the old N7 had no issues...the new one developed random reboots in a few days.
Others have said the GPS is flaky and there are multitouch issues. And others have complained the screens are easier to crack because the body flexes more easily because it's thinner.
Just things to be aware of...it is great when it's not flaky though
I read on it mostly too and love the "retina" screen..

I did it and don't regret it. I also had a $50 off coupon for Staples so the 32GB cost me $219+ tax and I sold my original with OEM case for around $150 which helped to reduce the cost of the Nexus 7 (2013). Display is the !main reason to upgrade - it doesn't even compare. There's no way you'll be able to go back to the original after using the display. I loved my original Nexus 7 too and wondered if I would see that much of a difference but the new display is incredible. If you can sell your old one for a decent amount, I'd say do it. I do have some random reboots lately though but the thing boots so quickly that I can tolerate until a fix. Plus I think its because of the ROM I'm running: an unofficial version of CM11. Hope this helps.

Go for the 2013 model. I wouldn't really consider the 2014 version worth the wait over this one, because the new Nexus 10 hasn't even been established as yet. That's a pretty long wait.
Or, you can do what I did, and spend a little extra money for a warranty. I spent an extra $66 for a 2yr warranty from Radio Shack, and my tab holds its complete value until the day that the warranty ends. Plus, I'm protected from everything, INCLUDING BRICKS! I'm very happy with that.

[Q] Buy Nexus 7, wait for Nexus 8 or buy Dell Venue 8?

With all the screen issues, I'm very hesitant to buy a Nexus 7. Actually, I'd buy two; one for my wife and one for me. But, there seems to be no fix in sight for the all the screen issues. I'd rather have an 8 inch screen than a 7 inch screen, but I have no idea whether Google will produce a Nexus 8 in the next six months or so. And, Dell has their Venue 8 available for sale. It's screen resolution may not be as good as the Nexus, and it uses a dual core instead of a quad-core CPU. But, for web surfing, email, watching videos, it seems to do pretty well.
Wondering what forum members thoughts are. Will probably wait a little while and see if there are any negative reports on the Dell in the next few weeks. (All existing buyer reviews are pretty positive.)

Why do you need 8 inch? You should either buy 7 inch or 10+inch if you ask me, anything more than 7 inch is NOT portable, if you want a multimedia device to use at home don't buy 7 inch tablet. I don't have any screen issues, i think you should give more thought on what you need.

I have no idea why so many people think Google is going to make a nexus 8 when there is a nexus 7. They're not going to make a tablet from 5 to 10 just to satisfy every person who wants an obscure sized tablet. If Google ever makes 3rd nexus tablet choice it'll be larger than the 10 not in between 7 and 10.

It's a hit or miss. Why not go to your most trusted retailer and test a couple out then pick the best screen you can find.
I don't have any issues with my unit.

Not sure what "screen issues" OP is referring to. Been using mine everyday for little over a week with no probs.

Bought one at Sams' Club last night and the screen has no issues.

I can only guess that you don't know the physical size of the 8 inch is the same as the 7 inch, there's less screen border on the front.

I guess people think there will be Nexus 8 because of the pic released by Google a few months ago. It was quickly photoshop'd to a Nexus 7 after the roar on the net. Since Google actually took a picture of someone using what appeared to be a Nexus 8, a number of people, including me, expected Google to release a Nexus 8 sometime.

There's a nine page thread entitled Potential Touch Screen Fix. This forum is full of Nexus 7 2nd gen touch screen problems. It looks a hardware grounding issue. Some people are on their fourth and fifth units and still having the problems.
I'm glad your's has worked well for one week and another poster's has worked well for one day, but this seems to be a hit and miss issue. Plus, many people notice the problem after having had the unit a while.

That seems to be the only real option. At least buying locally means you won't have to mail the unit back if its defective. You only have to return it to the store.
Unless, you want the additional geography of an 8 inch screen. I guess waiting seems to be the best bet.

Gotcha, I guess I will just cross my fingers and hope that I don't experience any of the same issues. I will go ahead and look that thread up though, to at least familiarize myself with them in case they do arise. Thanks!

I have had 2 with screen issues. The first one was extremely bad. 3 spots that didn't register touches practically at all. And the second one had touch issues and rebooting when the tablet was in a case. I was very disappointed. I am going to get a hp slate 7 extreme that runs the tegra 4. I play games often and the tegra 4 beats the snapdragon in gaming. The 1 gig of ram is still fine for the hp since kitkat is going to be running on it. The screen resolution is lower than the 7 v2 but it's still better than 720hd. The 7 v2 was my first choice but I feel that I gave Nexus 2 chances with their product and they failed.

Certainly don't wish anyone difficulties with their 7. In fact, the more positive current sales turn out to be, the more likely Asus has fixed these issues during manufacturing.
My wife and I have had a pair of Nexus 4 phones for over a year, and both are performing flawlessly. I guess we're looking for the same kind of reliability with a 7-8 inch tablet.
I'd love for Google to come out with a Nexus 8, like in the "old" screen shot. And, seeing what happens in the next few weeks seems like the safe bet.
Neither of us is a gamer, so we don't need the speed gamers require.

The new Nexus 7 is my favorite device ever, and I use it hours a day even after months of having it. I'm actually glad I didn't get the LTE version because then it would never leave my side (tempting though, since TMobile offers free data for tablets).
From what I've seen on my Dell Venue 11, Windows 8 is nowhere near as easy to use or as useful as Android. It actually pisses me off sometimes, for well-known issues like battery drain and control panel. PM me if you want more thoughts on the Dell Venue.

Is these issue's still happening on the Nexii 7 2013? I want to buy one myself.

I got a Nexus 7 (2013) for Christmas, it was purchased from Best Buy. I already have an HTC One, and I have to say -- the Nexus 7 keeps up fine, despite inferior specs. And my HTC One feels so very small now. It only beats the Nexus 7 in sound. I was reluctant to open up my Nexus 7, I gave a lot of thought to returning it for the credit, but I'm glad I kept it now. Go get a Nexus 7!

And today's current rumor, from various component suppliers, is the Nexus 8 will be introduced this summer. (Background comments are that Google is disappointed in the sales of the current Nexus 7.)
Currently, the choices are Nexus 7 (2013) at $269 for 32 gb; LG G Pad 8.3 at $299 (street price) for 16gb but w/SDHC; or Dell Venue 8 at $179/$209 for 16/32 gb but w/SDHC. The Dell has less dense screen, but equal to the rest of the competition, and twin core CPU which is more than capable for videos.
I don't know how to "convert" std G Pad to Google Edition w/less bloatware and quicker OTA updates. If the OTA updates along from LG, and LG doesn't modify them, then the question becomes how much of delay in getting them from LG rather than from Google.
If either LG or Dell comes up with sweet deal, that might be the way to go. I'll have to keep my eyes open.

Just wanna have your advise on this, and also what do you think of it on regards of usability, reliability, rooting, custom software, performance, etc.

I've had my N7 (2013) since January, and I love it. I've had no issues with lag or anything of that sort. I am content with keeping the OS stock, only with root and Xposed Framework mods (same thing with my Nexus 5 and 10). That being said, since we're sooo close to Google I/O, I would personally wait. The only reason I bought one in January was because I was able to get a new 32GB model for $170 ($100 off normal price). I definitely wouldn't pay full price for one right now with Google I/O right around the corner, since I'd imagine the new one will be priced similarly, and the current model will probably be discounted as well. However, if you absolutely have to have one, it's a great little tablet.

You are asking in a Nexus 7 forum so will probably get a biased veiw.
Considering that, I think it's main selling point is great value for money. You also get instant updates and great ROM support. There are only rumours of a Nexus 8, the N7 is more than capable to do everything quick, efficiently and smootly. So even if one did come out I don't think you'd really suffer that much. The N7 is going to be future proof for 2 years I'd say from now.

Plus Best Buy has it on sale (the 16gb) for 199.99

One thing i would recommend that if you are going to purchase the Nexus 7 tablet to go for the 32GB version not the 16gb. The nexus 7 does not use micro sdcards so you are limited to the size of your internal storage. Besides that the tablet is great! There is so much available for this tablet! I wouldn't worry to much about a new nexus device coming out soon. When a new device comes out it takes time for developers to catch up with the new device, and so if you get a device right when it comes out you have to wait for someone to find a way to root the device and then you have to wait for developers to create a custom recovery manager and you have to wait for developers to create custom roms for the device.
Currently for the Nexus 7 2013 you can:
install TWRP recovery manager (advanced recovery manager)
install MultiROM Manager (install multiple roms and choose which rom to load on boot)
install a great number of custom ROM's such as OmniROM, CyanogenMod, CleanROM, ParanoidROM, SlimKat ROM etc etc..
install Ubuntu Touch! -> This one is a lot of fun.
Install Kali PwnPad -> if you are into computer security you can install Kali PwnPad onto your nexus device and you can use external usb wifi devices such as the RTL8187 (ALFA AWUSH036H) with your nexus device and you can put that usb wifi device into monitor mode so you can use linux programs such as -> airacrack-ng, wifite, kismet, metasploit, social engineering toolkit, and others!

install custom kernels There are so many great kernels for this tablet for example the ElementalX kernel!

I'd personally wait for several reasons - while only rumor it has been suggested that the upcoming Nexus 8 might replace the 7 at around the same price; so you'd get an updated larger product at around the current N7 price, which is great if the rumors are true. Secondly, the real reason - Google I/O is coming soon. Wait a little and your patience will be rewarded not that the N7 isn't nice; just that it's not long before you know what you can get with a little patience.

Wait the few extra months if you can. The Nexus 8 will be more than worth it

I'd say it's the best budget tablet you can get! I'd wait a month or two to see if a new nexus 7 2014 will be announced or the rumored nexus 8. Unless you don't care about having the latest and greatest, cause the 7 is still amazing.

199 is nowhere near cheap enough. I got mine for 189 with a 25$ gift card at black Friday via staples price match.
Anyway I would definitely say you better open the box up and play with it for a while before buying. As long as you don't have touch screen issues (ghost touches, multi touch, etc) you're in the clear...

For the cost vrs overall performance, the fact Android it's open source and it's ability to be modified I don't think there is a better tablet. Not literally but certainly all things considered.

I just got the Nexus 7 32gb from Best Buy today with a price match of Staples for $179.00. Staples had an error with their online pricing and showed the 32gb for $179 instead of the 16gb in their paper ad for $179.
So far after unlocking and rooting the device, I have been happy with it.
Next step is to get going on ROM's to see what I like. Just did Franco Kernel as I have used his in the past and I've been happy with the performance.

Dudes, I'm also planning on getting a Nexus 7 2013 WiFi (flo). I just wanna ask, is 32 GB enough for high end games to be installed? Anda can you plug a flash drive via USB OTG to watch movies and stuff? Thanks.

I'd personally like to add that I just yesterday returned my Deb N7 from best buy I got for 268.80 with a price match for T-Mobile. It was bugging me ever since I bought it that the new one would be announced at google i/o. Really it's a great tablet but the loudness of the speakers and screen vibrancy didn't cut it. Although it was perfect in every other category.

32 GB Is definitely enough, of course if you keep media and stuff on a USB OTG which is compatible (experience)

Is the Nexus 7 still worth buying?

Hey guys.
So, I was thinking about buying an Android tablet, so, as I am a Nexus 5 owner, my first thought was the Nexus 9, but the thing is just too expensive for me, I want something on the cheap side.
So after thinking for a bit I remembered the N7, it's got great hardware, it runs Lollipop and its freaking cheap. But it's from 2013, which I know its not necessarily a bad thing, so I want your opinion as you actually have the tablet.
Is it still worth buying? Amazon is selling it for $197.

I bought my Nexus 7 eleven months ago. I'm very satisfied with it. If you're planning to root it and unlock the bootloader, you'll be able to update with custom ROMs for quite awhile. If you're planning to run it stock unrooted, you may want to consider a newer tablet.

Yes, I think so. There's one 1 other tablet that can compete in terms of price, support, and price: the LG G Pad 8.4 GPE. Good luck finding one though. I didn't buy my Nexus 7 until this summer and I couldn't be happier.
Updates for the rest of this year, at a minimum. My only issue is with deb updates, which get held up due to LTE. Save yourself some more money by buying a refurb unit.

This may sway you... Check your local Staples store - they're having an unpublished clearance on 2013 Nexus 7. $98 for 16GB or $128 for 32GB. Many stores no longer have stock, but of you can find one it's a great deal.

I just bought mine like 2 weeks ago.... It was a decent price (before the groupon deal)
and it does exactly what I need it to... which is work dual purpose as a home/car tablet.
Honestly I would have rather had a Nexus 10, just because I am a bit of an HTC fanboy,
But in just home use it's still faster than my HTC One M7. actually.... a lot faster.
Has decent dev support, not so much in the way of car roms/mods but still a good overall tablet.

I was really excited for the Nexus 9 but I think it'll be too big and the price point is too high. I have repurchased my Nexus 7 a few times due to dropping and theft. The touchscreen on the Nexus 7 2013 is flaky when using a case or 1-handed operation because of a grounding issue with the device. Using the device 2 handed like normal you will rarely see any issues.
Gaming on the other hand is retarded on the Nexus 7 2013.
I try to play Terraria and it is just a frustrating mess. The dual thumbpad touchscreen controls get confused occasionally and causes me to either shoots or run off in the wrong direction. You have to take both thumbs off to reset it temporarily. Just FYI. This is normal across all Nexus 7 units as far as I have known. Some are more noticeable than others but they all have it. There are some flashable fixes that update the touchscreen firmware to have various degrees of sensitivity to help fix this but nothing is ever fixed completely. The fixes have helped make my tablet more enjoyable to use day-to-day but gaming will never be 100%.
I have purchased a Asus MeMoPad 7 for $20 for my son. A little lackluster tablet but plays games better then my Nexus 7.
Personally I was looking at the Nvidia Shield Tablet with a digitizer pen enabled screen. It seems to have issues of its own. The LG G Tabs, as mentioned above, are really solid tablets. I know you can pick up an LG version (with LG software) for pretty cheap. There isn't much development on that tablet though, unfortunately.
The Nexus 7 2013 is a steal at $128 if you can find one. Very solid unit. If my Nexus 7 2013 broke today, I would look else where.

I have had my Nexus 7 2013 for well over a year and I wouldn't replace it for anything. I did break last month when I slipped it into my back pocket like an idiot I sat on it and it broke the screen. Although Asus lost my Nexus for almost a month, it was still covered by its warranty..and they repaired it for free.. I Now use a Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, but its no Nexus.. I like the bigger screen, its the Nexus is still better in every way except there is no Micro SD slot.. I need a device I can carry with me that has a Micro SD.. Hence the use for the Galaxy tab.. But if you'd ask me to choose between the 2.. I'd take the Nexus any day..

If the price is right I don't think you can go far wrong. Internally, it's pretty much a Nexus 4 with a Full HD screen and a much better battery. :highfive:
I've had the LG Gad 8.3 for a day and whilst its a nice piece of kit, the aluminium back is slippery and being that touch bigger, you can't get your hand around it like the Nexus 7. There is also a ton of bloat.
Whilst I'm not convinced by Lollipop on my phone, it runs great on the Nexus 7. :victory:

Hello my fellow N7 owners of the best tablet ever made. Given the uncertainty over Pixel 7 and constant delays for so many years, is there a credible new generation replacement for n7? I am reaching a point where I am running out of patience and scourging the market for a dated n7 seems like a bad idea. My current n7 is the best device I have ever owned. It works flawlessly but only thing being I have more consumers now at home and all are Android fans of rooted ad free locked down devices and n7 experience with root is just so surreal that no other tablet in our household can beat this.
Either GOOG release Pixel 7 or we go the pre owned market very soon.

That same set of rumors has been bouncing around the net since this past summer. Everyone thought for sure the new tablet was going to be announced during the Oct 4 event. But there wasn't even a whisper.
