What are these 2 files for?
Do i need to include them when decrypting/bundling an ftf file in Flashtool?
Thanks
Hi,
I have a stock unrooted ZL.
When this update came out a couple of weeks ago, I tried to OTA but it kept on failing (always during the part after it restarts the phone and the green ROM flash bar starts to flash).
So I forgot about it for a week or 2, and stopped attempting to OTA.
Today, I wanted to try again, so I went inside my phone to the software update, and it said "Computer Required".
Thus, I've installed PCC (Sony PC Companion software) and attempted to update - the preparation phase completed successfully, but when the update phase started it shut down the phone to attempt the update, then I got an update failed error followed by a retry button on which I tried to click - it just gave me another "can't connect to server to download the software" error.
I finally stopped trying to click retry because it was not responding; PCC has gone back to it's main menu without giving me another chance to retry, now it does not recognize my phone, and the phone keeps restarting with the message "The software update failed. Make sure the phone is connected to the computer and try again".
I don't care if I need to reformat my phone using PCC, but how do I backup my internal storage? I just cannot lose what I have inside.
I would like to kindly request the best solution you could think of that could fix this without loosing my internal storage data.
Please help me
Which rom was on your phone before brick?? Stock 4.4.2? You can try to flash 4.4.2 stock firmware using flashtool but be sure to uncheck the three wipe on the right.
In this way your phone would start and you will can access to internal storage...make a backup of all your data and than flash new 4.4.4 stock firmware, and this time check all three wipe on flashtool... Good luck
Edit: of course if pcc has wiped all data during that failed operation your data are lost forever...

Thanks for your fast reply mate!
I have stock 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 I'm not sure actually (I have the last update prior to 10.5.A.0.283), where do I get the stock ROM which is customized to my country?
Also, If I already had stock version higher than 4.4.2? which version should I flash?
Thanks!!!

if you received ota update of .283 your phone would be on .230.
I don't think you are on a stock version higher than 4.4.2, your phone is bricked during update from .230 to .283, so you must restore 4.4.2 system.
which model do you have? C6502, C6503 or C6506? you can find all stock ftf browsing XDA ZL forum, here are some link:
[STOCK ROM][FTF] Xperia ZL (C6503) 10.5.A.0.230 Generic DE
[STOCK ROM][FTF] Xperia ZL (C6506) 10.5.A.0.230 Generic US
[STOCK ROM][FTF] Xperia ZL (C6502/C6503) Android 4.4.4_10.5.1.A.0.283
anyone know how to fix or restore to stock rom? i think i have my phone bootloop, after updating i cant switch on the phone, no vibration when pressing the power button.
thanks

Thanks, I already found those, I was asking actually for different customization, but never mind - it's not important anyway.
I actually was not sure before you replied if I was on 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 so I tried to flash the .283 - it got past all flash phases except for system.sin which it got stuck in (more than 4 hours have passed with no progress), then I tried again and the same thing.
While trying the above, I read your reply, and then understood that I need to flash the .230 and not the .283. So I tried, and not it did not get past the kernel.sin flash phase (which one of the first files - please see the log below).
Now I don't understand how come for the .283 it did got past the kernel.sin, and reached up to system.sin (only system.sin and 3 more .sin files were left to flash when I tried to flash .283, so why when I tried to flash .230 as you see in the log below, I don't get past the kernel.sin?)

then hold down VOL- button and connect phone to pc...if nothing happens probably the phone is hard bricked and in this case I don't know how you can resolve the problem...maybe battery issue

So something is definitely wrong here... should I try on a different computer?
It's still ongoing... maybe it's because the last flash attempts and initial PCC update gone wrong?

I'm already using the latest flashtool version 0.9.18.2. (Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde)'
Of course I made sure that PCC is no running. But it is installed so I'll have the drivers for my phone.
Also already installed the driver package inside flashtool drivers folder - I've installed only the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers.
I'm trying to flash the following:
[STOCK ROM][FTF] Xperia ZL (C6503) 10.5.A.0.230 Generic DE
Filename: C6503_10.5.A.0.230_Generic DE.ftf
Bytesize: 1,008,463,406
I've also removed the Wipe APPSLOG and Wipe DATA checks so I wont lose any data (left the CACHE checked).
Thanks for your help mate. I really appreciate it.
Any idea?

When I try to charge the phone with my original charger and cable directly to the wall (and not pc), I get a bootloop with SONY logo and the following message:
The software update failed.
Make sure that your phone is connected to the computer and try again.
I'm not sure it is charging in this situation, is it?

Zergrush work for up to .42 firmware
For later (.62 .69 .79 or .84) firmwares use eroot
Edit: Is DXEngine-Fast.img even a kernel for xperia play?

Ah, you mean extremekernel (i didn't know exact kernel filename).
My guess is that you still have locked bootloader.
If you unlocked bootloader with official sony's method, then i don't know what might be the problem

I've unlock it via flashtools, I relock again and I will try the official sony method, then I will let you know if I still have the problem. Its strange cause before this happen I flashed kernels whitout any problem then flashtools started to give this error
@Bakisha , I was see the comments on the video of the "How to unlock the boot loader of an Xperia device" from sonydev channel and the comments people was saying something about losing the DRM key with that method and camera or bravia engine not working, is it safe to do that on the xplay ?

No, for Xperia Play it doesn't matter (it matter for Xperia 2013+ phones). Once you unlock bootloader, you don't need to relock it ever again.
As i said, i don't know why you can't flash kernel, but here is some general tips:
-reinstall/update flashtool
-reinstall all drivers from device manager related to xPlay
-try different usb cable
-try different (all) usb ports
-try on different pc
-try kernels in ftf format
-redownload kernel you are trying to flash
-try unlocking your bootloader with official Sony's method

Even I used to get same error on different Xperia device. What I use to do was, if I got this error, I used to select the ftf file again immediately and flash it, without disconnecting the phone and all. I don't know why this works, but it always did for Me.

Are you sure you ICS rom is not corrupted ?
Check this : All Stock Firmwares for Xperia Arc S
Read this tutorial to help you : [TUTORIAL] HOW TO FLASH STOCK ROMs WITH FLASHTOOL
As @M0umou said, you will need to get an older version of Flashtool from here (Windows | Linux | Mac) and continue on. I've got a .ftf of the Arc S .587 on my Google Drive so in case you can't flash with yours just download it from here.
