[Q] i may have semi bricked my phone please help - Verizon HTC One (M7)

hello android geniuses first of sorry about this once my phone is working again i will not mess with it anymore
okay so i was feeling cool and rooted my htc one m7 from verizon then i turned s-off and unlocked bootloader
then i flashed a custom rom it was paranoid android everything worked except i wasnt getting any service on the phone so i was told to flash a verizon htc one rom so i went and flashed viper 6.2 but the phone got stuck in a bootloop so for some reason i thought that doing a factory reset/wipe from the recovery would fix it....it didnt and now i cant reflash the rom either....i tried to sideload but adb wont recognize my device while fastboot recognizes the phone adb wont
what am i to do?

Well im not sure of any other methods to try but i had loads of problems myself pushing files to the SDcard threw twrp and cwm recoveries, so the way I went about it was doing a decrypted RUU to return the phone to stock then once it loaded up in Android I pushed the Rom to the SDcard card then rebooted and started over.
Goto this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46506621&postcount=2
All the way at the bottom you should see some links for RUU's, I used the one labeled "1.10.605.15 Decrypted RUU" You will flash this the same way as you would a firmware update, if you dont know how thats done that post will explain it all. After you flash the RUU reboot and it should be back to the day you got it, but you will still be s-off, at that point just put a custom recovery back on and flash away, however that RUU will downgrade your firmware so you might wanna update your firmware after you get the phone booted up and your rom placed back on the sdcard

What he said. Good post dude.
When you enabled adb sideload, what command did you use? Because you don't push files that way. You type "adb sideload Rom.zip", then it will send the file and after it sends immediately start the install. So you will need to wipe in recovery first to make sure it's clean.
Sent from my Lunar Ecliptic One.

i followed your steps i got to the part where fastboot asks to flush the zip again i typed "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" and it said waiting for device and that never went away so i rebooted into bootloader and now fastboot wont recognize the device however if i go to device manager it says my htc is plugged but has a little yellow icon...the drivers are up to date this is driving me nuts i just want my phone to work

Ruu
sound like you may need to ruu back to total stock there are instruction on doing it here and I do not want to give you the wrong steps. found this but make sure you have the decrypted ruu
1. Download VZW RUU.zip from the following thread 1. Download VZW RUU.zip from the following thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2428276)
2. Rename to "ruu.zip"
3. Enter fastboot mode
4. enter "fastboot oem rebootRUU" - You should not see a silver HTC logo on your device.
5. enter "fastboot flash zip ruu.zip" - The first time you execute this command, it only prepares the flash
6. As soon as the flash is done preparing, enter the same exact command again "fastboot flash zip ruu.zip"
7. Now you'll see a little green progress bar on your phone. This does not need to reach 100%. As soon as your command window is finished, you can just "fastboot reboot".
8. You should be set back to fully stock HTC One.

The problem now is that fastboot wont recognize the device, when i type "fastboot devices" its blank
i think i screwed up the firmware becouse in fastboot it says in red os-3.11.605.1 (1.10.605.15) in red

You could always use a USB-OTG, place a rom on a flash drive and try to install that way. There may be a simpler way, but that's all i can think of for now.

i guess i have to order an otg cable....oh well...ill have to live without a phone a bit longer until cable shows up haha XD w

Does pc see device in computer?if so down load room onto pc place Rom on root of ad card or in download and reboot phone into recovery ahs flash zip..I also had problem where adb would not see devices cause I had miniadb and the full version of adb and it was a conflict, just my two cents

I don't know if this will help, but I had an issue of my devices not being found so I followed this guy's guide: http://zacktutorials.blogspot.com/2013/04/adb-is-not-recognized-as-internal-or.html
and was able to get my device recognized. Also which recovery are you using? I don't know if it's still an issue but when I was on viper I got stuck in a bootloop with TWRP so I switched to Philz.
If you're able to get into fastboot, follow post #4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2677015 and basically start from the beginning.
Make sure you have the latest recovery, the latest firmware (radios and such), and the correct ROM..
good luck

[Q] Red Triangle and Exclamation point - won't boot and PC won't recognize

I was S-Off and rooted with Roadrunner. I went ahead and accepted 4.4 OTA fully expecting to lose S-Off and Root.
What I got was a phone that can't recognize the SD card, and won't boot past the white HTC screen (does it twice then shuts down to red triangle and exclamation point. I've tried to get to the main white admin. screen (vol. up and power) but no luck. I have go to a blue screen offering:
a reboot system - doesn't work
apply from SD card - phone can't find it
apply from phone storage - can find no files
apoply from cache - can't find any files
wipe data factory reset - did that and still nothing
wipe cache partition - didn't know what this would end up doing so I haven't tried it.
At the bottom of the screen in green it states :
Mount SDCARD Failed 1 time through 5 times.
Cannon mount SD Card (no such file or directory)
Write host_mode: 0 Done
I only wanted to get to 4.4, S-Off, unlocked, and rooted to get rid of bloatware. I've rooted before but i'm pretty much a noob (I've been reading here for 2+ years) but am lost understanding programmer language.
Can anyone help me? I'm lost as this is my only phone (I don't have a land line)
Thank you

Did you try and update while having a custom recovery and/or Rom installed? Also bootloader is power+volume down. The ota won't effect s off or locked status. Just get to fastboot and boot to RUU mode and run stock RUU. Then take updates to 4.4.2
Just a little more info Gizmoe please

I wrote of my problem in middle of night and blanked on getting to bootloader. I am there now. Fastboot takes me to Fastboot USB. RUU mode isn't an option under fastboot just bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, and power down. My PC is not recognizing the phone. I was running stock ROM. I don't recall doing anything special as far as recovery since that would be beyond my learning curve.

Can you send fastboot commands like
Code:
Fastboot devices
And see your device listed?
PS: to above
Also just noticed my phone is now saying UNLOCKED which it wasn't before. Just S-Off through roadrunner (and still S-Off). . My contract was up on Friday and called Verizon to get unlock info but they said they didn't supply that info. I needed to go to a third party (figures).

You have connectivity then. It's not going to list it in " my computer" unless its booted into Rom. Just use this thread

To flash RUU. Don't do relock or s on just flash the stock RUU.

If I can't see it in my computer then where do I type the codes? I'm very appreciative of your help but I'm in uncharted waters here.

Use cmd prompt. Did you setup adb/fastboot when you used rumrunners? In command prompt with phone plugged in while on boot loader screen type fastboot devices. If you see a serial number returned you are connected. Typing fastboot oem rebootRUU will put the phone into RUU mode where you can flash the decrypted RUU.

Just leave it zipped. Rename to RUU. Then put it in same directory you are in while using cmd prompt. Then type fastboot oem rebootRUU. Once phone is on black screen with silver letters type fastboot flash zip RUU.zip it will do some stuff and then fail saying to flush the image. Just repeat the fastboot flash zip RUU.zip again and it will succeed. You then will be complete stock. Then you should have no problems updating to kitkat either.

I'm getting a {ERR} command error.
entered " fastboot oem rebootRUU.zip" also tried fastboot oem rebootRUU", "fastboot oem reboot RUU", and "fastboot oem reboot RUU.zip" in case you forgot the space between reboot and RUU.
It is in the directory where the fastboot.exe is located. It is a zipped folder called RUU.zip.
I called in SL for tonight as I really want to get this done tonight. Too much at stake.

First type fastboot devices and make sure its connected. Phone needs to be in fast boot mode. Screen should read fastboot usb in red letters. Then type exactly
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then
Fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
RUU.zip needs to be in the same directory cmd is reading.
Something is happening . . . . . "sending zip"
resent as failed like you said.
failed as you stated . . . resent. It also said failed resend immediately. something is gyrating.
OK. at bottom of command prompt it says "Successful OKAY 249.248s" Finished total time 312.192 sec.

Before I screw anything from this point, what do I do now? Just press the power button?

Hey there
I want to start off by saying I have very little experience with rooting, but am very familiar with jailbreaking apple devices so I figured i could manage.
I have a htc one m8 on rogers network locked. I rooted it and had super user and all that jazz, then flashed AOKP. Then I thought i actually liked the stock HTC sense better, so I tried to "get things back to normal"...lol.
Now im at the point where if i turn my phone on it goes straight to the fastboot screen(?) with all the "fast boot, recovery, factory reset, etc". Since I'm super new to all of this is there anybody that can write some instructions on how to get my phone back to stock? I would really appreciate it after panicking over this for 3 days.
Edit: In the fastboot screen at the top it says ***Tampered*** ***Relocked*** ***security warning**
also when i try to press recovery it shows the htc screen for 1 second then back to the same menu
i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710735 but i cannot even get into recovery

While being an expert with rooting and flashing custom recoveries on Samsung devices, I am also new to the world of HTC. Out of curiosity, what happens when you hit factory reset?
Unlock the boot loader again then install twrp recovery then head over to the stock backup thread and flash one of the nandroids for your cid.

Do fastboot devices ... adb commands itself won't work in bootloader, it has to be fastboot commands.
now you have a locked bootloader which means you cant do anything.. so your first step is to unlock it again then flash a custom recovery (TWRP) after that flash the stock rom+ boot.img ( to be safe) make sure it boots. RELOCK the bootloader then flash your firmware.zip.. hope it helps

If it's in bootloader it should show in command prompt when you type fastboot devices after connecting it to PC. If it doesn't then there is a driver problem perhaps. Check to make sure you have HTC drivers installed, or reinstall them. Might as well make sure adb is up to date as well, can do that through the Android SDK Manager. Another possibility might be that the usb cable isn't working correctly, try another cable. Fact of the matter though is, if it's in bootloader and you connect it to the PC adb/fastboot SHOULD pick it up.
So check and fix those things. Also make sure you use the correct commands, in bootloader mode, it'll be fastboot commands, not "adb devices" but "fastboot devices" ... "fastboot reboot" etc etc. Also make sure you're running the commands from within the adb/fastboot folder path(just for in case yeah...)

You didn't read any of my posts about that, did you? lol
I already stated adb commands like "adb devices" "adb reboot" etc will NOT work in bootloader, it'll work in the system and yes, it'll work in recovery for sideloading etc, but NOT in bootloader. For bootloader you HAVE to use fastboot commands, "fastboot devices" "fastboot reboot" "fastboot oem lock" "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" etc etc

Sorry I skipped past your first response, that makes sense now.
So I need to put the rom on my internal storage then go into recovery and install the zip using TWRP..but when I plug my phone into the computer the internal storage wont show up.
I do have sync manager installed also, and it wont show up in that either

With that adb devices command again in bootloader? Did you flash TWRP yet? If so, Got to Advanced >>> ADB Sideload >>> Swipe to start sideload.
Place the ROM.zip file in your adb folder then:
Connect phone to PC, while still in recovery mode type adb devices to make sure your device gets picked up, should show you the serial number for device AS WELL as "sideload" next to it, if so then you are hooked up right. Next type adb sideload name_of_zip.zip wait until fully finished.
If sideload fails for one or other reason you can also try to push it. Reboot to recovery again, type adb devices to make sure device gets picked up, type adb push name_of_zip.zip /data/media/0/ or adb push name_of_zip.zip /sdcard/ flash as per usual then.
Yet somehow I don't think you even need to go to these steps

I made a small mistake with the sideload though, it actually installs automatically as such you don't have to go back into recovery to flash, as it did it already, sorry. Edited post to fix.
Well as long as you can get into phone now to copy the nandroid backup to the phone all should be in order, can flash back stock from the nandroid then.
Glad it worked out then.:good:

Hello BerndM14, thank you for this baby steps. Mine m8 is a gpe version, it's 4.4.2 google rom, rooted, cwm recovery, s-on. I was trying to flash the full google 4.4.3 zip rom under recovery, however, after that, my m8 automaticlly enter recovery everytime reboot. And I can manually enter the bootloader, my pc can find the m8 both in recovery and bootloader. I searched this post, and do it accordingly, I download the gpe stock backup KOT49H.H16 - 1.16.1700.16 - CWM Philz touch and use adb sideload gpe3.zip to the cell phone sucessfully, then the recovery automaticlly starts installing rom, then, I got below message:
-- Erasing & formatting /system as ext4 (Unmounted system)
system partition formatted!
-- Mounting system partition for writing
Writing rom system to system partition
Rom system written successfully!
@symlinking and permissions
--Creating toolbox symlinks
--creating additional symlinks
Symlinks Set!
--installing busybox
Set_perm: some changes failed
E:Error in /tmp/update.zip
(status 7)
installation aborted.
Install from sideload complete.
then, I reboot it manually. problem still there, still enter the recovery automaticlly.
do you have any comments on this? please.
thanks,

If you are able to boot into fastboot, search the latest TWRP and flash it via adb. Connect your device while in fastboot mode and see if it recognize it.
If it does put the recovery file you have downloaded on your desktop and open a command window, press shift and right click at the same time and click on Open command window here.
Type adb devices, if you see a serial number go on and type adb reboot bootloader, then type fastboot flash recovery [ the name of the recovery file you have just downloaded ]
You can do this just by powering on your phone, no need to be already in fastboot mode, just follow the commands.
Press shift and right click : open command window here : adb devices : adb reboot bootloader : fastboot flash recovery [ the name of the recovery file you have just downloaded, do not forget the .img extension ]
fastboot reboot
Once you have a working TWRP you can flash your corresponding backup and go back to stock. The backup will be flashed from TWRP, search for instructions.

http://teamw.in/project/twrp2 and click on the upper right Get TWRP for your device.
Choose your device recovery and download the adb version. That is the .img
Once you have downloaded TWRP put it on your desktop.
Connect your device with your laptop/pc with the unknown sources checked also the usb debugging checked.
Move your mouse over a free space on your desktop, click once just to be sure there is no app or file clicked.
Then press shift and keep it pressed while you right click your mouse.
Press open command window here
in that command window type : adb devices
if you see a serial number type : adb reboot bootloader
then type : fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-m8.img
fastboot reboot
openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-m8 : This is an example, you will write the name of your recovery but it should be pretty much the same.
Good luck.
Are you familiar with
adb/fastboot commands?

You say "pushing a ROM" with what?
You don't push a ROM with TWRP you just flash it.
Or are you talking about pushing the ROM with fastboot?
If you have TWRP than download a stock backup and flash it.
Take a long look at my profile man and if you look just right you will see I've done and asked some stupid things in my travels here on XDA.I can tell you I remember every phone and ridiculous thing I've done to each of them,I still feel crunchy when I think of the mistakes.
We really need more info about the full process.please I'm not trying to offend you and I'm trying to help

If you can't remember what you did, or at least even try to list in detail the steps you did as best you can remember; it makes it very hard for anyone to help.
Saying you followed some tutorials on an entire website (3 websites actually) doesn't tell us jack, and isn't any better than telling us nothing.
Its not even clear the current condition of the phone. Your OP says TWRP doesn't work, then a later post says you are trying things with TWRP, so presumably you have TWRP. But since you never stated that, we can only guess.
What happens when you try to adb push or sideload? What error messages, does it make the phone reboot, stuck on boot screen, etc?
TWRP working? Bootloader is unlocked? If yes to both of those, you should be able to just adb push a ROM, or put one on removable SD with a card reader attached to your computer. Than flash the ROM in TWRP.
same thing happened with me but i remember what i did

Install custom ROM with support for Dual SIM or restore your stock ROM backup

Not so sure,
if Sense ROM - https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-sense-6-12-401-4-mra58k-stock-t3296066
maybe S.ROM too has dual SIM support, you need to ask in their thread

if non-Sense ROM

There are a few more that support Dual SIM but you have to check & ask in their development thread as I'm not familiar with most of the available custom ROMs .. I don't try most of them
Thnks

I recently decided to root and install a custom rom on my old stock sprint HTC one m8. I unlocked the boot loader via HTC Dev website. I then flashed the TWRP recovery. Since doing the latter step, it's been booting into fast boot all the time! Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your phone?

You only flashed TWRP onto the phone? Or did you root also?
Not nearly enough info to provide the proper help.
Please do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
What version TWRP?
What version SuperSU did you flash (if you got that far)?

[Q] Having trouble flashing new recovery

Really hope that I am in the right section.
I have been running the blisspop rom for a little while now. Wanted to give a new rom a shot. Went into recovery and wiped as usual and went to flash and got a "this package supports bootloader....." Realized that the new rom recommenced TWRP or Clockwork. So I went into fastboot and tried flashing both Clockwork and TWRP and after flashing and rebooting it hangs on the boot screen with "entering recovery" at the top.
Suggestions? Help?

Boot your phone into bootloader,
Choose Fastboot and hook it up to the computer
Wait until it says Fastboot-USB
Open CMD in the window where you downloaded the file and copy this without the quotation marks: "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.0-m8.img"
Wait until it finishes, then just try going back into recovery

Try this:
fastboot erase cache
Then flash again twrp recovery
Fastboot flash recovery twrp_recovery_name.img
Send with my M8 from Tuttoandroid
That didn't work either. Has anyone else tried to go from the philz recovery back to the other ones and had any issues?
Still trying to figure this out...maybe someone else has a suggestion. I can't RUU since I don't have S-Off, but there should't be an issue flashing a new recovery, I've never had this issue before.

Okay. Let's start over from the beginning.
Go here and download this. on your PC.
rename it to "recovery.img" (no quotes) and put it into your fastboot folder on your PC. (either fastboot or platform-tools depending on the ADB version you have)
Hook up to ADB/fastboot and enter the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
The img you are trying to flash has to be in your fastboot folder.
Also, make sure you have the proper drivers installed. You can confirm this by going to Device Manager on you PC (enter device manager into the search box in your start menu. If you see a yellow exclamation point over "My HTC" or "Android" you don't have the proper drivers).
If you get the yellow "!", and don't have the drivers, then you can get them by clicking this link.
Also, make sure that HTC Sync Manager is uninstalled from your computer. It does not play nice with ADB.

I appreciate the detailed instructions, and I went through and did it exactly like you suggested and I ended up with the same issue. I am able to flash the recovery, the issue is afterwards when I reboot the bootloader then try to go into the recovery it freezes on the htc logo screen with "entering recovery" at the top of the screen. I have been able to flash roms and everything with no issue, just for some reason I can't switch recoveries.

Problems with going back to stock

Hi guys! A couple months ago I flashed CM on my Desire 816, but I wasn't happy with it, so I restored my backup that I made before the flash. Now that the new update came out, I tried updating, but I can't, because I have a custom recovery (CWM). I followed theunlockr.com's guide to revert everything, but the RUU linked in that does not work for me, fastboot complains about signature verification. I bought my phone in Hungary, off contract, so I guess it's an EU version. I'm pretty much a noob, so if I missed giving some vital info, just ask. Please help! Thanks!
We need good boot.img
Okay guys, I managed to go back to stock and my phone is updating ATM. Here's how I did it, if anyone is in a similiar situation:
1. I had the OTA on my comp, copied it from phone. You'll need fastboot as well. Also, I had the stock ROM installed.
2. Unlock the bootloader. If you already rooted your phone, you know how to do it.
3. Unzip the OTA, if you did it, unzip the firmware.zip as well.
4. You'll find a recovery.img in that zip. Copy it next to fastboot.
5. Restart your phone, go into bootloader, select fastboot, plug your phone in your computer. (to do this, you'll need to turn fast booting off while you're phone's on, and I think you'll need USB Debugging on as wel, but you probably know all of this)
6. Hit up a command prompt in fastboot's folder. Type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", without quotemarks
7. It should flash the stock recovery in a couple of seconds. *optional* Check recovery in hboot just to make sure.
8. While your phone is still in fastboot mode, type fastboot oem lock into the command prompt you opened in step 6.
9. Now that you have a stock recovery and you're bootloader's locked, your HTC should update properely
I'm not sure (cause I'm a noob), but I guess this should work in every region, because the stock recovery is from the update itself. Hope this'll help
