Hello,
Interested in switching permanently to a cyanogenmod or other AOSP type of ROM.
My problem is that every single one that I've ever tried has really poor battery life, esp with standby battery drain.
I'm installing the roms correctly, b/c they work fine. But how are you guys able to deal with the large hit in battery life? What might I be doing wrong?
Is this just par for the course? Because with stock, it's absolutely not placebo. The battery life is better.
Is this "just the way it is"? I've seen wakelocks, but the guilty culprits are things like calendar, google+, etc, things you just can't delete.
Maybe you could ppst here you battery diagram and screen time etc. Everyone using his phone for their own way. Kitkat has poor battery life compare to jb. You can turn off mobile and wifi and use you phone like ebook reader and you get 7h screentime but when you use your phone normally on kitkat screen gets you 5h. My phone unbranded.stock kk for central europe on better to stay on jb but we can do this always but for now i decided.to stay with kitkat we will see what next updates brings new about battery

I'd like to hear some experiences that everyone is having on how the battery life is on the stock ROM (POST OTA, NOT OVERCLOCKED) vs custom ROMs (Again, NOT overclocked).
I've tried the Virtuous ROM, and as expected the battery life got slurped down like coca-cola! CM6.1 isn't as bad, but still seems to suck the life out of the battery quite a bit faster than stock.
Is everyone seeing similar? What makes the stock ROM so much better on the battery?
My experience was actually quite the opposite. When I switched to CM, my battery life improved by about 20-25%. I have a NAM Desire Z so it was running HTC Sense over Froyo.
Remember that it takes a few days of usage for your battery to 'calibrate' itself to the new ROM. My first two days on CM were really bad, but since then, battery life has improved greatly. Yesterday, after moderate use and 15 hours, I still had 45% of my battery left. With my stock ROM, I would be lucky to get 15 hours of use out of the phone period.
As far as overclocking goes, I haven't seen much of a difference in battery life. Reason is, even though you are overclocked when the screen is on, you can adjust settings to under-clock at other times, saving battery power.
I would recommend trying a Custom ROM for 4-5 days, that will give you a better idea about its battery life. Also, there are lots of settings you can tweak that affect battery life greatly. Widgets, background data, signal strength... SOO many variables in personal usage that battery life is going to fluctuate user to user regardless.
Hi all,
I am using the international version of the G4 and the battery life is quite poor. I am not a heavy user, bit of social media, music for a couple of hours and a little internet. I need to charge at around 3pm or it won't last until 7pm.
I've previously been very active in the modding of Samsung devices, but kept this un-rooted until now.
I am considering either rooting or flashing a custom ROM to get better battery life. I am more than happy with the G4 UI, so this is purely for power purposes.
Does anyone have a recommendation? Is it best to root and tweak or just flash a decent ROM? I had my eye on the 7 HD ROM.
Would appreciate some help.
Thanks!
When you want to stay by the stock rom, than its my experience to do nothing...
The nice CTT Mod gives you a little bit more performance and less heat but more battery draining :/
A costume rom can help because less usage of the cpu. But the stock rom is so nice ^^
Do you use the original charger? When I use my old Sony Ericsson 0,7A charger I have the feeling that the battery doesnt have the normal power....

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it's the original charger, so no issues there. I think it's a G4 issue rather than my device as I had it swapped out recently and it's very similar on the battery life.
I am leaning towards doing nothing with Android 6 coming in December.
Buy the xperia z5 premium. Cant go wrong

That's really helpful, thanks!

- Tell us your screen on time and your run time at the end of the cycle iw when battery is around 5-10%. Look in settings, battery, look at the list for screen click it and it should tell you how long its been on. Better still, post screen grabs of the battery usage, showing the graph of your usage with the list below it, so we can see which apps are the top consumers.AND the one with the screen showing how long its been on.
- Are you using this on wifi only, data only or a mix of the two ? how high is your brightness. auto adjusts and isn't very meaningful. so put it on manual and tell us what figure you are comfortable with.
- how much screen on time you need as well as run time so we can tell how close or far it is from your expectations.
- how long have you had the G4, how many charge cycles has it had. If you've had it for a while, is this something that developed after some time or was it always like this since you got it.
There are a lot of reasons battery can be low, we know very little about your use right now.
Screen 16%
Android OS 13%
Phone 11% (haven't actually made a call today)
Android System 9%
Spotify 9%
Google Play Services 6%
Cell Standby 5%
I'm using it mostly on 3G/4G, but turning wifi on when needed.
The phone one is a bit curious....
Sorry i need to see time figures in hours and minutes. percentages tell me nothing.
when the battery is 5-10 % how long is your sot.
And how long has it been runnning.
How long have you had this device ?
3g/4g is going to take a toll on the battery depending on the signal, whether you are stationary or moving when accessing data.

Better to get it running normally under stock first. And i don't know if thats the case right now.
Really appreciate the help, thank you. Let me get some screenshots up.

Android os sounds like autosync+GPS
Phone sounds like fast dormancy
Android system looks normal at 9% but still need a sot / time the phone was on for the period u recorded those stats.
Might wanna have a go at BBS and give us something solid to look at, that alone will help a great deal in solving the issue

I've tried cyanogen, aokp, and aicp. All of these ROMs ruin the battery life. It's more than a 20% an hour drain. Am I missing something? On the stock ROM I felt like I could run the phone all day.
Whenever you flash a ROM you need the battery to stabilize over a few charging cycles. It's always been the case, so give it time. Many people have experienced better battery life, but I can't confirm since I'm trying to hop between the different ROMs on several devices.
Reading over the Nextbit forums it looks like WiFi scanning is causing this. Disabling that will fix it.

not a severe drop no but usage seemed higher from day to day. I think it's well documented that android (and most other phone OS for that matter) take a while to settle down after an update/flash. I'm pretty sure this is the case here. my robin has 'settled' now - not much different to what it was before. like dave said above though, wifi scanning eats through battery life. I also turn off NFC which I have no use for (currently) and in general stop services (like printing) which I don't use.
Hi,
Do you have problems with the battery life on the stock ROM?
No matter what version I am running like 7.0 or 7.1 the battery life is still bad like 2:30 hours of screen on time while just looking on Facebook and Twitter, nothing hard...
My Moto G 2013 had 5 hours in those conditions even more sometimes and that's strange beacuse 5X has a larger battery and perhaps a more energy efficient SoC.
Do you know any costum ROM wich has great battery life and RAM management?

Seems pretty normal for the N5X. Try the search function or read the Advanced Interactive Governor thread for options to you can try. Don't expect miracles though.
720p screen phones with weaker processing will get longer battery life than a 1080p screen phone with stronger processing. Moto G devices get some of the longest battery life for this reason.
2.5 hours is especially low for a 5x though. 3-4 would be average when draining from 100% to 0% while actively using the screen a lot, and I regularly see 5-6 hours SoT with my usage.
Couldn't say anymore without screenshots. There is a battery thread in General for sharing screenshots and you can see examples of which to post.
Hi, im curious about its battery life.
I'm a previous user of xperia z3 compact and a current user of xperia z5 compact.
I've used z3c on lollipop and z5c on marshmallow.
I have to say, I'm missing the battery life of the z3c. In my experience, z3c lasts much longer than z5c.
In my z3c, I have around 30~40% left after my day, while z5c has around 10~20% left.
So how does this phone matches up with either z3c or z5c (for previous owners)?
are you on stock? if not, what rom do you use?

Came from Z3.
I've only seen a huge improvement in battery life.
MIUI is good, but LineageOS is even better battery life.
You'd be in a good position to upgrade from Z5c to Mi 6.
6-10 hours SOT depending on usage etc.
Battery life in idle or airplane mode is horrible.
There are a lot of people who have huge battery drain even with sync off, data off.For example I'm losing 15% at night (8 hours) with airplane mode on.
You can see here : http://en.miui.com/thread-1213385-1-1.html
I'm really surprised that no one is posting about this issue on XDA...

Because that's MIUI.
MIUI has bad standby battery drain. It drains 50~60mA per hour, while LOS can keep it around 20~30mA per hour. This way, you can get about 1% drain per 1~1.5hr, which is fantastic.
Not sure.
I have tried different based AOSP rom and actually I'm on Mokee. I don't see a big difference even if , I agree, it's a little better.
I'm losing 1,6% per hour in idle mode with sync off and data off.
So I'm far away from 1% per hour....

On MIUI you can disable MIUI optimisations and set memory killer to off.
That will actually give better performance and battery.
Xiaomi doesn't need the optimisations anymore as android does fine alone but they still put it in as part of their branding.
MIUI just needs tweaking and it's okay...
Some people have the issue with battery drain in idle mode and some , not.
I think you're a lucky one
