Opposite here, guess it depends on your area. Mine is better than ever but right before the 4.4 update it was horrid. I think they're trying to overhaul their network now so it might be shaky for a bit.

Sprint is updating its network vision for your area. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
This is all I ever hear out of those outsourced folks from India.
also, in california, my 4g and 3g always alternate depending on which part of town im at. Its rediculous.
Never had the data issues when I was on stock 4.1.2.
For me, a solution that is temporary may be leaving mobile data on, don't turn it off. Power phone off and power on again. Wait for data to connect.
I did that and my data seemed to be stable, but if you turn your data off and leave it off for a while and turn it on again, it'll become unstable again.

My data on kit Kat is better than ever. 4.3 was horrible and 4.1.2 was pretty good
I'll also bet they are doing tower upgrades. Be patient sprint is overall the best.
If you go to Verizon you may have a good signal but it's will cost you about 30% more in cost and you'll constantly have to
Monitor your data.

When I call customer service I get connected with an office in Shreveport where I speak to Americans. Sorry to inform you that they're typically not any more knowledgeable than the people you're referring to. The good thing is that I get to speak to people at all. When I was on AT&T that was often an incredibly difficult thing to do. The last time I spoke with Sprint's customer service, it was in regards to how horrible my cell signal is at my house. The lady told me that they were indeed updating their system in my area and were expecting it to be 100% completed in the first part of June. I'm waiting to see how that goes before complaining any further.

Hahahaha. Yeah that's the story I've heard for the last 2 years. Sprint LTE is a joke. I regularly get sub 10k speeds with 4G connection. Enter a building and it's back to 1x. Come July I have 2 GS3s for sale and it's buhbye Sprint after 10+ years of broken promises.

Must be location related. I live in the middle of nowhere, in a forest nonetheless, and in my house I get 1 bar of 3G. On my back porch I get 2 bars of LTE, but in town I get full LTE. It's slightly less signal than I got at home on AT&T but then I was paying almost twice as much for only 2 gigs of data. But, I suppose the grass is always greener... :sly:
Just updated to 4.4 and data connection seems to be stable. When I was on 4.3 the past 3 weeks it would shift to 3G a few times but I think Sprint is upgrading our towers. On 4.4 its gone down a few times to 3G but I'm banking on the Towers.
Ive been on 4.4.2 for a few weeks now and my devices ability to hold onto a signal has gone down considerably. Previously I had to roam at my house. (We live in the country) Now a lot of time I have no signal at all! There's nothing to be done about it so I just use wifi and don't worry about it.
My data keeps going from 4GLTE to 3G no matter where I go unless I reboot my phone.

Yes you can.
About 3 months ago, I put a complaint I believe was in the FCC website, sprint immediatelly contacted me and kept on bugging me regarding the issue. I think the government agency really gets on their case.
After a month, I got them to give me a new phone, from EVO 3d to the Epic and didnt resolve the issue, they now credited me for $50 since I have absolutely no signal where I work and a promise to work on the issue, so the FCC let go of buggint them, but the issue still there, so now I should and will put another complaint with FCC, for 3g speeds and another one for the lack of signal for voice again!
That's the thing, many people have issues but do not complain with the FCC only with sprint. Once we start complaining with the FCC, they actually start doing something about it.

You are will aware that with an airave you can change it so only authorized phone numbers can connect. Also, pretty sure that Sprint isn't responsible for providing excellent coverage inside your office building (Perhaps it is different if you held a business account). Keep in mind that the building structure also comes into play because the frequency might not be able to penetrate the building, which in this case the FFC can't do anything to sprint legally because it already providing the service but the structure reflects/weaken the signal by the time to penetrates the building walls.
The above is just my opinion on Sprint Service, while they are held liable to provide good signal in your home address and nearby area.
@Darrien13 I believe they are doing network vision so that would affect your service big time for a while. In my city, there was no service for approximately 3 days while they were upgrading the towers for N.V.

@Everyone posting Network vision affecting their current 4G wimax.
The 4G has nothing to do with network vision. 4G towers are operated by clearwire. Their might be maintenance being done to the towers, expect 4G speeds on wimax to drop though, since Virgin mobile/Boost mobile will be getting 4G wimax phones.

Sprint said last month they are upgrading towers until middle of June.the lady let slip that, "hey 4g is off line there right now" i stated we have never had 4g. I've been noticing allot of towers going up and actions happening near all the cell sites. I'm in temecula. But i informed her i travel around and she stated everything should smooth out mid/late June. This was April 8th. Tech support called several times to verify changes they were making in my town.helped a little.
I tried to all her about lte, she said she was reading an internal note about the area.

Had same issues in Fort Lauderdale. Was horrible! I got the same story of maintenance on towers and 4G was offline. They gave me $50 credit for each line on my account. Told me to call back after May 10th if issues still remain.
When I am 2 feet from a BIG window, in front of a open wide pershing square, I think I do have to have a signal. At least a signal. I have nothing no bars, not connection, nothing. I even tought there was a jammer nearby, but a sprint rep came to check, and said that it does not look like and that I was definatelly in a spot to get a signal.
Would I move to the center of the building, I get a VERY STRONG signal.

You read the title correctly, tmonews and android central. The question is would you switch to Tmobile for 4G HSPA+ data speeds with no caps or overages. I know im seriously thinking about it. The wait for LTE is killing me.
Hmm no caps or overages but..... What about throttling.....
Never mind looks like it will be un throttled.
http://m.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-ready-offer-completely-unlimited-data
No throttling either.
eh, this is how it starts..they offer unlimited then when you download xyz they cripple it to 10KB/s.
after people complain, they will stop throttling then implement a download cap again.
rinse and repeat.
This will be interesting. I'm now doubting how smart it was to sign a new contract with Sprint. With T-Mobile, you have your choice of Nexus and international phones (*cough*Mi2*cough*). Plus, T-Mobile is about to roll out LTE Advance next year. So basically, the plans and pricing should end up similar to Sprint with a very competitive network, but with a much better selection of phones (counting non-T-Mobile-endorsed Nexi and international phones).
I still have confidence in Sprint's NV/LTE upgrade, and I'm plenty satisfied with my S3 for now, so the next 2 years should be good for me, but this news definitely gives one something to ponder.

I'm in Linden (right next to Elizabeth)....I don't get those speeds all the time I just screencapped it this AM and was using for an excuse to share it....
I don't have a problem with Sprint's speed like I used to WHEN I GET IT. The problem is there are a lot of areas where it either connects only to 1X (inside certain buildings, but other carriers don't have this issue so it isn't the building) or times like in this screenshot where it is displaying a good 3G signal but the data doesn't actually work, it seems stuck.
I wouldn't switch to T-Mo. There speeds have gotten faster but nothing has changed to ease my mind as to their coverage when making calls. I remember I tried them for a week and there were places I got NO signal. No data, no voice.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've been with Sprint for over a decade and I was upset when they took away the Premire Program considering I had just qualified Gold status shortly after they came out with it. I let it slide because even though I don't use a ton of network data, I hate the idea of being kept to a limit and/or being throttled once I get there.
Like you, I'll give Sprint a fair chance here. I'm around the Chicago area, so we're in full blown Network Vision upgrade which has been hit and miss. Some places are great, others are atrocious. If their plans pan out, I'll stick with Sprint, but if not, I'll gladly jump to a GSM carrier for a variety of reasons, especially now that they're going to offer truly unlimited data as well.
if this holds true, im out of here with sprint. screw giving them a chance when were paying $10 for premium data. Dial up speeds are not premium data. hell even if we werent paying $10 a month, id still be considering it. I cant even access internet pages in good 3g areas half the time without having to refresh 4-5 times/ Let alone getting any of the apps to refresh. when I was with t-mobile. I always got 6-12mbps. Who cares that its hspa+. I would wait for LTE, but judging by what ive read, Sprint LTE has alot of connectivity issues as well.
If tmobile starts to offer unthrottled unlimited data and it cripples the network, then ill be in the same boat im already in with sprint. So i really cant lose. Paying these prices for this type of service is not acceptable to me.
Im at my wits end with sprint
I tried Tmobile for a week before canceling during the 15 day period. Speeds outdoors were good, but when I entered buildings I lost service completely. If you switch to Tmobile make sure you test indoors. I went from 5 bars at my desk to zero.
T-Mobile service is good in my area. I might consider it. GSM is better than CDMA anyways. I always liked tmobile. But i think im gonna have to wait until my contract is over.

Supposedly, everything unlimited would be $89.99/Mo. Not sure if that's worth the huge ETF for Sprint, but it's tempting for me, especially since I would pare that down a bit by getting as few minutes as possible.

Let sprint kick you to the curb all you have to do is roam 24/7 sprint will eventually drop you with no etf. That's a option to try. If t mobile didn't want a fee to sign up I would do just that.

Okay, I'm having a dilemma. I don't know whether to switch to T-mobile and have access to all the good unlocked phones with tons of development or stay with Verizon and deal with their ****ty tactics on trying to stop people from modifying their own devices.
People who are on T-mobile, how are HSPA+ signals and call quality? How often do calls drop? I currently attend the University of North Dakota and I'm afraid that if I switch to T-mobile, I will get terrible reception and data signals here. Can you guys inform me if there's any good T-mobile signals in the Eastern North Dakota area?
On the other hand, Verizon's signals are fantastic. I get full 4G in my area and call quality is terrific. But as well know, Verizon likes to lock down devices and put logos on home buttons to piss the modding community off.
What do you think? I would like some input on this because I have to make a big decision - whether to stay on Verizon and have my parents pay for my current line or switch to T-mobile and pay everything myself.
Thanks!
Wow. Free sounds better to me.

Errr, I mean yeah it does but my parents want me out of it and pay for my own bill soon lol
Anyway, that family share plan is annoying and it keeps me from wanting to do some heavy tethering. I only get 8 GB of data a month and I share it with 5 other people so data gets built up pretty quick.
Of course free is always better. But if your parents are looking to kick you off I would go with t mobile. Verizon is way too damn expensive. I live in Orlando Florida and my speeds range from 10mb to 25mb. Upload speed stays constant at around 2mb.
I don't really have dropped calls. As long as I have bars which is 99% off the time my call quality is good, unless the other person has ****ty service then no matter how good of service you have the quality will be lower.
So if your on a budget and want more go with t mobile. But if you got money to blow then stay with Verizon.

Been with T-mobile since Voicestream days, 12 years now. I'm not going no where, I love the freedom where I can buy any GSM phone available in the market, plus the plans too are cheaper. I love my Magenta
Unless you don't have signal cuz their WiFi calling is f**king worthless. I've been trying to send a text for 2 hours. Even Verizon can at least get a text through at my house.
You are going to have to do your due diligence and research coverage in your area. In the areas that T-Mobile has coverage (mostly urban/suburban areas) they are well worth the effort (great prices, great phones, no locked bootloaders) to find out if they have coverage.
If not Verizon unfortunately, may be the better choice because they have coverage in more areas.

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile (with a stop at Sprint in-between), and I don't notice any difference in terms of calls.
I use WIFI calling at home since it's my only option - Verizon was the only tower that gave even 1/2 bar in my house (the reason I initially chose Sprint). However, my personal experience with WIFI calling has been great - I even have used it over my school's WIFI (a bit of an accident) and the call quality is always remarkably clear - enough so that I notice it.
The city that I work and go to college in is covered in 4G towers - I have never had a situation other than at home where I was without coverage (and, to be fair, my house is down in a small valley with thick tree coverage on the lot). If I were you, I'd take a look at their coverage maps to get an idea for what's it's like where you are.

How???? I just got the red WiFi calling error and it's been dropping all day and night for the last week. It goes blue and as soon as I send a text it drops service.
The support thread on tmo has over 31,000 views...
I've had trouble with it when the WIFI signal is 2 bars or less on the indicator (like if I am in the garage), but otherwise haven't had an issue - I've even made quite long calls from it - it's been on and blue (sent + received some texts) since I got home about six hours ago.
My only observation is that it needs a rather strong connection, though I don't know if this could be part of the source of issues others might be having.

Did you set your address up in your T-Mo account? If you call 911 for example through Wi-Fi calling, they want an address on file or some crap like that. I had to do that back when I was on TouchWiz. (gave me the red thing)

I haven't had an issue as well. It might be your router. If I go outside to the back yard I will get an occasional drop because the router is in the other end of the house but all is great here with blue all day long.
OP I moved from Verizon to T mobile a while back. I'm in LA so coverage doesn't effect me as much. Never looked back.

T-Mobile fits my needs, I live in suburban Atlanta, and I get really good data speeds. Have had NO issues with call drops. Customer support has been pretty good to me. My only issue is when I go some where rural. In those situations I get 2g or no bars. In my opinion, I'm satisfied with T-Mobile. I'm on a shared line with my brother and we pay 130 together for 1000 minute, unlimited text and unlimited data.

I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile 2 years ago and im loving it, much cheaper and the signal and data is just as good as verizon minus LTE is a tad faster but T-Mobile is selling a couple thousand towers and getting 4G LTE ones in 2013

Damn. Just did research on data/signal coverage in the Grand Forks, ND area and sadly Tmobile has no coverage. All the other 3 carriers do. What a bummer. Guess I have to stick with VZW

Yea T Mobile is not a widespread carrier compared to Verizon but if t mobile supports your area then its great

Wtf is up with this ****? My wife's friends turned 4g on on her og evo and had 4g service in lansing...wimax? Why the **** is Sprint eating their time and resources starting up wimax here? They should b working on the LTE rollout. This is really getting ridiculous now...go figure I switched my evo for the s3 cuz I figured it would never c 4g...now exactly how long am I gonna have to wait for lte?
Let me say, I'm not really one to complain about the entire 4g debacle, but I just don't understand this move. I know several people that ditched their wimax phones for the gs3 because they figured they would never c 4g on the evo...guess they got us again huh.

First, shut up.
Sprint is no longer rolling out Wimax so it has always been there. And this isn't the place to complain. Take it up with sprint if you're so upset. Or better yet pay etf and go with another company. Seeing these new threads popping up isn't anything new. Its very annoying.
This is my opinion and I do not speak for the community
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
First off you don't need to b an asshole. And second off no, wimax has NOT always been here. It was in grand rapids ONLY. Do u think I'm so ****ing stupid that I don't know how to check my evo to c if I have 4g? If you don't have any input or information keep your useless opinions to yourself. No one wants to hear your idiotic replies.

So your complaining/venting does what exactly? Your approach with the language makes you look like the a-hole just my opinion.
So what Sprint has a Wimax tower in your area and no lte yet. Did you not know there was no lte when you bought your phone? If so your uninformed buyer... they could of had that wimax tower up and ready long before you bought your gs3, just didn't turn it on till recently.
You may get a more polite response by calling Sprint customer care (because it's their job to be polite), then you would here with your useless complaining...

I'm not complaining about not having lte..I knew it wasn't here yet when I got my gs3 just as I knew there was no wimax when I got my og evo...it does upset me a little that all of a sudden a wimax signal started showing up here. It just seems that they would b so busy with regular voice, data and lte updates that any wimax additions would b a waste of time.
As far as language and attitude, I apologize. It just hit me wrong and I have some major real life stuff going on right now, so I guess that played into me being quickly irritated.
As far as Sprint goes, have you ever really called with service related questions? I know it partially depends on who you talk to, but Sprint seems to car very little about customer service/satisfaction. The ones I have talked to have some of the worst attitudes of any customer service reps I have ever dealt with.

Your accusation about sprints CS is only from your part. Every single, and when i say every single employee I mean it. That I have spoken too has always been polite and did what they could to make me (their customer) happy. I've been with them for 4 years now and not once have I been disappointed after ending a call.
If you want to see horrible customer service go check out Verizon. I had to deal with their crappy service for 7 years.

Ive had one bad experience with a sprint cs rep that would just talk over me and talk over me and was very rude.. drove me nuts but one out of the millions ive talked to in the last 7 yrs doesn't make their general cs bad... as for them adding a "new" wimax tower... i doubt it.. probaby just didnt have your antenna turned on.. i never did with my og evo or my 3d.. it killed my battery so fast it wasnt worth it... i get way more lte signal in south fl then i ever did wimax.. as u can tell by the reponses youve gotten so far the folks here on xda aren't the ones u wanna vent to.. as they'll make your frustration a little more frustrating ...
coming from an SG3 with LTE, I'd still love this phone without it..

Lol it's ok like I said just couldn't believe wimax signal here...I only ditched my evo in October and I and several friends did occasionally turn on the antenna to check for 4g service. Had done it since I got the phone. And I don't get frustrated easily...like I said something just hit me wrong especially with a very stressful real life issue I'm dealing with right now.

What I've noticed here on san antonio is that in a lot of areas around here, lte is completely overloaded at certain times of the day, making 3g a better alternative. A ton of people have the gs3 now so I thonk that Sprint's lte is way too little for all the phones that support lte. In other words, they may have rolled another wimax tower just so everyone on wimax phones can have a fairly decent 4g. Just to possibly keep the customer satisfied while they work on upgrades for lte to better support current lte customers. Idk if that makes sense to you but it makes sense in my head.

Even with this new LTE network, there service is still sub-par at best.. I have more dropped calls with this new service, than I have had with Winmax, and I live in the DFW area...

I'm in SA area too. My experience has been a constant, blazing fast LTE connection anywhere north of IH-10 and south of IH-10 seems to be spotty LTE, mostly 3g. When I'm on 3G, it's extremely sluggish though. Sometimes I drop down to 1x on the northwest side of town. I've heard so many different experiences though. I'm on LJ7 modem btw.
On a side note, my mother has an evo 3d that connects well with wimax. Much more of a reliable connection than I've experienced with my S3.
Besides all the trolling here, it's not a big deal if there's that there now but not 4g. Who cares. Use wifi if your home or at a friends. I'm on 3g and that's perfectly fine when it comes to Web browsing some sites.
You can complain to sprint and they would just brush it off like the other countless non major complaints they get.

Well I'm testing out T-Mobile in my area since AT&T is frankly getting too expensive for me. I received my SIM card today, turned the phone off, put it in, and powered back on. Everything seems to be working and upon initial boot I show LTE.. Then I eventually see 3G, then H+ ... My area is saturated with LTE for T-Mobile and I'm a bit confused as to why I'm having such an issue with signal. Signal with my AT&T wasn't horrible, but never dropped LTE on me while in my home.
Is there anything specific I can do to improve reception at all? I am running DP2 of Android P.. Maybe there's an issue there.. I can't seem to figure this out. T-Mobile says everything should be running fine as the coverage is there.

Just a thought, don't know if it'll help or not. Have you thought about fastbooting a different radio from the latest 8.1 factory image?? I honesty don't know if there's any difference between them, but it maybe worth a shot. If your bootloader unlocked of course

Always unlocked, and I did flash back to the May 8.1 update. It did improve a little.. it's just a puzzling situation. There's a T-Mobile tower less than a mile from me up on a hill a bit. It's very close.. Maybe too close? I don't know.. I get LTE from it.. Luckily a signal booster from them is free and may help. So far I haven't dropped signal completely since going back to 8.1 but it's running close to -119 which I think if memory serves, is very low.
I have been on T-Mobile for years. My signal on my Pixel 2 XL has been really good except my friend's new apartment, but I think it's because the building is blocking the signal really heavily.

10 to 1 your actually too close to the tower and the signal is actually going over the top of you. What happens when you get 2-3 miles away from it. This is all just spec on my part though ?

I never thought of that.. my house is a total dead zone. I drove around town and was getting 100+Mbps download speeds, amazing signal. So it's not the phone/radio. It's either I'm too close, or something odd with the tower. Maybe it's an old 2G tower they 'turned into' LTE? I don't know, I do know it's one of the oldest radio towers in town.. I drove as close to the tower as I could without trespassing.. I know the signal could be going over my head, but it only pulled about 23Mbps ... Closer to downtown I was pulling 120+Mbps on the speed test..
Not sure there's anything I can really do other than ask for a booster for the house and see if that helps. I can do without signal at home due to the Wifi calling, but is that a risk? I have a landline, but only for work.. May have to pull double duty.. All this is to save myself some money.. 4 Paid Lines with T-Mobile is cheaper than 3 Paid lines and one free line with AT&T.. it's crazy..
It may have something to do with the Android Beta's, I remember seeing signal issues like this on the Oreo beta as well.
Are you still seeing signal issues on the may security patch?
There is a tmo specific flash for June.
And the build is working for the most part....

Damn that sucks, Call up tmo tech support and have them investigate that issue. They usually do a test in your area, and if they can't fix the issue they'll make note of it and install another tower.

Havent had any issues so i would say YES!:good:
The latest June release did fix some issues.. but didn't fix the issues in my home. Seems the signal in the area has issues penetrating some buildings. A tower is close but the theory from T-Mobile and others that I've talked to on here and elsewhere is the tower is just a bit too close and likely going over my head. They sent me a CellSpot. This thing is amazing! Connects to my ISP and uses that to 'phone home' to T-Mobile. It sends out full signals of 3G/4G and 4G LTE. It's amazing and free! Sends a strong signal outside of the house and around too.. T-Mobile is something else!!
So when you say ISP, you mean T-Mobiles network?

No, it's actually connected to my ISP Suddenlink. I don't know how it all works, but through the internet, when I'm using LTE instead of regular Wifi, it's using the T-Mobile Network but through my ISP connection. I don't know how it works, but my signal is roughly -60 to -50 at all times inside and outside around my house.
