Too much used ram - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I just bought a new s4 mini and I downloaded all my apps. However I see that I only got 100-200mb free ram unless I use a task killer. This uses up battery and heats up the phone when I'm using it... what can I do to free up some ram without losing it again to Google and Samsung services? It runs stock 4.2.2 jb and I don't really wanna lose the warranty because I just bought it...if you suggest flashing a custom rom then I'd prefer one that is easy to update and there is no need to re-install everything after flashing or updating.
Thanks in advance

Many people will always recommend custom roms!
About upgrading and flashing it's often the same hassle like process!
I'd really suggest you get cm11 i hope you've the lte version since cm11 is for the lte.
I wouldn't really recommend to use the nightly version even if it's the newest cause it contains bugs sometimes!
I'd recommend to use the snapshot versions and only upgrade if there is a new snapshot version, latest snapshot is m6. :good:
If you still want to stay on stock I think there are a few apps available for improvement, but I don't know any.

so I have to re install all my apps, contacts and all that even when I'm updating? Damn I'm a busy man, I got no time or patience to do all that... What's the snapshot version? Do I have to unlock my bootloader and/or risk bricking my new phone forever? And yes I think I got the lte model. I have GT-I9195

Snapshot versions are the newest more stable versions than nightlies. The most stable versions are "stable versions"!
If you've a branded phone I'm not sure if you can flash it on them. You "could" risk bricking it forever but only in a chance of maybe 99%, if you don't overclock it or else. :good:
You'll also most likely loose your warranty, especially if you not live in the EU.

Yes it's official and snapshot versions are very stable (select the snapshot link on the website or even stable if you like)

I live in Europe, got it from orange but use it with Vodafone so I don't think it's locked. What do I need to do to install a stable rom? And what's an easy way to have my apps and stuff back after upgrading? And do I need to unlock my bootloader?

Oh and about the contacts!
You can export the contacts! And then import again! Other data would be lost, BUT you could use Titanium Backup for saving apps etc. but i didn't try it yet. Titanium Backup needs a rooted phone though.

Make sure you don't have any special version like "verizon" etc. . If you've a locked bootloader I'm not sure if it's possible or not, I hope somebody else knows.
You need a custom recovery, I used TWRP from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678420, even though the cm team doesn't recommend it for their rom, they recommend CWM.
When you installed a custom recovery, follow the steps in the cm thread. Thats all

Why do you recommend twrp? And how do I see if my bootloader is locked?I come from an Xperia go which had a locked one and i had to unlock it

You can save some RAM by put app into deep sleep when not active: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
I recommended to use the donate version as you can freeze system app and has more feature. You will need to root the phone, this is a safe method without voiding your warranty if you have knox: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
Alternatively if you have no clue: http://www.kingoapp.com/

If you like to install a good keyboard for cm11 i'd suggest you install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708805

There are one or a few safe root methods in the s4 mini forum here, search please. I don't know a link just now.
By the way, i think it's not 100% sure that you'll keep your warranty even if you use a safe root method. Since your phone is modified, even if it not knoxed up.

There's only one method on 'Saferoot', no other, and I already provide the link. It not for everyone if a person dones't know what they doing.
If you have no proof on Kingo stealing data, please don't spread the rumor. Personally I only don't like Kongo is because it is using the Saferoot method but they don't give the proper credit to the author, and they deny it now. I still remember one of the Kingo author was posting here on XDA.
To trust it or not it up to you, I know plenty people here on S4 mini is using it. I only recommened it becuase it a lot easier than the original Saferoot, and you seems to have no clue on what you doing. There's already plenty info we giving here, please don't expect us to spoon feeed all the time.

X-Note 9.0 for 900T

OK guys, There is no way I am the only one with a 900T itching to get my hands on KK and X-Note 9.0. I am very new to the whole rooting android devices but I am quickly learning the ropes. I have been reading many posts were where this is available to the 9005 versions. I also know that the 900T and 9005 are almost the same phone with 900T being locked (temporarily) to TMobile. I have been searching the threads for the past week looking for the answer if anyone with a 900T has been able to install the Official Poland Version 4.4.2 on their 900T. As some help I have been emailing someone else with a T-Mobile phone that helps to specialize in hard bricked devices. I am including the emails and I hope to get this thread moving forward. If it is not possible I would like to see if there is a way to work the system to get us the X-note 9.0 upgrade.

Side note: What I am going to attempt is to install the Poland version of kk to my phone. It is for the 9005 model (which the tmobile device is). Tmobile phones can run 9005 roms with a few updates, but I am not sure about the kk upgrade.

Until we get an official Kernel for 4.4.2 for Tmobile we wont be able to install it. I even tried it last night since I've used previous X-note editions in the past. Hopefully in a couple more weeks we'll have a kernel.

A few questions since I have spent a lot of time digging here in the threads.
1. Did you install the Official Poland 4.4.2 KK update?
2. Did you install the latest compulsion Kernel?

None of the 9005 roms will run on the N900T without a official KK kernel made for our device, I have done all the research, and it has the same issues that I went thru with Vision.

Axeman, Thank you very much for commenting on this post. I have seen your information alot dieingmy research. I have been attempting to gain traction on this topic. I do have a few questions.
1: is it possible to flash the official Poland KitKat version?
2: if it is possible, what are the risks that we are looking at?
I can see the problem with not having a custom kernel. Here is a link to one that I found earlier today.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5027195
I also saw a thread today where the Canadian version is now able to upgrade to Kit Kat and flash x-note 9.0

There is a link in the q&a forum for xnote. This gives specific instructions for getting it to work on tmobile versions of the note 3. I tried on 4.3 and was successful and also on 4.4.2 successful as well. im aroma I just selected the uk version to flash. you probably already know this but I thought id post this for future reference for other members. this rom is real stable and has not gave me any issues whatsoever from version 11 to 13

The only thing I flashed through odin was the 4.4.2 bootloader for tmobile
Everything else was done through recovery

I do recall reding along the threads somewhere that if you flash a non tmobile bootloader through odin you will end up with a fancy paper weight.

We Canadians don't have separate forum. As T-Mobile and N900W8 have LTE its very much vice versa to flash this ROM except CSC as this assigned only for Canadians network.
Its a shame We don't have any forum last version of Note 2 post was always listed in AT&T and now in T-Mobile. Sorry for any inconvenience guys...

I have just tried and its working.... If you cant download then I assume you have some network prob. Also I have tried to download straight from my Note 3 and its working. So please check your firewall settings and your network settings.
And also please don't disrespect any person without knowing the reality. If a developer can build a ROM he definitely know how to put the file correctly.

You will not get the updates unless you are on stock recovery.......I'm on rooted but on stock recovery so getting the OTA but it is of only 236MB in size . So i thinks it's jst a normal update...not an OS update.....
and one thing more if you are rooted and got the update then don't install that as it will lead to bootloop......it might get your device bricked

There is an update for LG G3 Vigor LS885 on the lg website http://opensource.lge.com/osList/list?curPage=2&m=Mc001&s=
but it's only the source code....so any one having the expertise of compiling the rom from the source code could help us......

Gsm bands can be unlocked by editing the build prop.......or by changing the files in "carrier" folder in our phone........as this method works on LG G2 sprint and also on LG G3 sprint..........
but i can't be sure about it......i myself wants to try it.....but waiting for the custom recovery for LG G3 vigor LS885............because first i will backup my existing OS .........and if by editing build prop something goes wrong then by going into the recovery i can recover the backed up OS.......

You can backup your stock rom by rooting your phone and installing a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM ,rooting is simple but the problem is I cant find any recovery for LS885.....but one friend "shaneg79" had installed the custom recovery on his LS885......so waiting for him to give the download link of that recovery.
Would love to see that stock recovery.

[5.1.1/OF7/OFE] Mostly Stock Kernel - with root! (7/14/15)

Here it is! Root for 5.1.1 thanks to @djvoleur! I helped a little but he did most of the work. Thanks also goes to @g.lewarne for his work on Unikernel as a couple of their ramdisk commits were needed to get this going.
This will trip KNOX. It will. Trip. KNOX. IF YOU HAVE NOT TRIPPED KNOX YET - THIS WILL TRIP IT. ALSO - you CANNOT downgrade after you take the OTA so be sure you want it.
I hope that's clear enough?
Instructions:
After you've booted into OF7 or OFE, go to Settings > About device and tap Build number 7 times to enable Developer Mode.
Go back and select Developer options and turn on OEM unlocking
Reboot in to download mode (Power + Home + Volume Down)
Use ODIN to flash boot-of7root.tar
After your phone boots you will now have root! You may also be back on stock recovery, which is fine since we don't have a working one for 5.1.1 just yet
You'll notice constant messages about security issues because of KNOX and the kernel being permissive. To get rid of these, open Titanium Backup (or your personal favorite app freezing app) and freeze SecurityLogAgent.
Download
OF7: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347768984
OFE: http://1drv.ms/1LeDH1z
If you have any questions, post in this thread and @djvoleur and I will be watching. And if you'd like to send any trucks full of money, I'm sure we can arrange that via PM.
ENJOY!
@g.lewarne is the unikernel dev. Glad you guys figured it out, he's been camping and not really able to download anything so grabbing your kernel source was pretty tough.

So this is root for the 5.1.1 update?
How can I update to 5.1.1, if I'm currently rooted on 5.0.2?

Yes, this is root for the OF7 update. Best way to update right now since we still don't have a stock tarball for OF7 yet is flash back to stock OE2, update, and flash this kernel for root.

Yes, this is for the Sprint GS6 (G920P).
Does the device go into deep sleep after root with this method? Or is the deep sleep fix needed after this? Thanks!

Is there any way to flash this onto an S6 Edge? 925P? Or would it need it's own specific kernel?

New Roms for rooted and locked MM

Now that we have a unlocked MM with MM bootloader and such , is there any other roms beside Jasmine. Is any of the international roms compatible?
I was wondering same thing... I'm going to try a couple when i get home.. Was wondering was issue, that we needed the data fix because we were on 5.1.1 boot loader, or other issues

I ran the Echoerom Pure Note 4, it loads, runs fine, only problem, would be the datafix for it to get a signal....
FYI
@cavemanb did you have to apply the fix, to get data to work???

I could not get the data to work, the few data fixes that I tried would just cause a boot loop --- so the rom itself worked fine, just could not get a the data working
So Louforgiveno mm data fix V2, and another V910 3.3 data fix is what I tried-- no success
When did the unlock for mm get posted I've checked around and haven't seen any posts about it

Same with the emotion revolution rom. With no data fixes the rom starts up and Flys .. add the same data fix..... just bootloop..
I even tried other data fixes... with no luck.
Aren't the data fixes relying on the LL modem? I would think that could cause issues when flashing to a device with the MM modem.

Wifi and Fingerprint fix on Verizon Note 4 SM-n910v
After unlocking my bootloader then rooting my phone I found that flashing any MM mod would leave my Wireless and Fingerprint not working but when I flashed the H-Vitamin Kernal both worked afterwards both with Pauls Pizz mod and Cyanogen mod 6-22..

Hey guys....here is a new Datafix that hopefully will work for the new 6.0.1 firmware....please test and report back....the files in this fix were pulled from Canadian note 4 MM rom, hoping this works.....if not.... if anyone here knows where I can find a stock MM rom for Verizon (zip file preferably deodexed) that will be my next approach.
Thanks for your patience and feedback.
