Huh? This is not a problem.
You can flash stock kernel with integrated recovery and then normally ROM.
Yes, you need unlocked bootloader. But anyway it's required to use customs.
As to your idea.
Yes, it's possible use fastboot to write dumps of /system from customs.
But this have sense only as alternate install solution.

Hello everyone at XDA.
I currently have Cyanogenmod 7.2 on my Xperia Play. I used CWM to install Cyanogenmod. I installed CWM using the apk here. My Xperia Play is an r800a with unlocked bootloader.
I have 3 questions left to answer.
1.If I want to return to factory condition do I just flash the original .ftf file? Will this cause any problems to CWM? Will having CM7 then flashing a stock .ftf possibly cause any problems?
2.The thread that shows how to install CWM has a warning that says
Do NOT use this recovery if you are not in Stock 2.3 firmware.
Well right now I am on CM7.2 can I still use this recovery if I want to flash other roms like miui? What does this warning mean?
Here is the thread
3. Also if I need to is there anyway to remove CWM?
Thanks so much for any help.

I know bumping is wrong but I made this into a new question and rather than posting a new message I edited it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
when u flash stock rom it should wipe everything - even recovery (im not sure). Flashing ftf file should give u phone like u had when u got it (but with unlocked bootloader if u did it)

But won't already having CM7.2 cause any problems? Also won't have a custom kernel cause any problems?
when u flash stock rom ftf it overwrite kernel using stock contained in ftf file (kernel.sin)

No. Flashing the ftf will wipe all traces of the custom kernel and any custom rom. It's like doing a factory refresh.
Sent from my R800x using XDA
Ok that's good to know. What about getting rid of CWM?

If you have BL unlocked, just flash a Kernel with CWM in it.

You have many choices here.
My suggestion is :
1. ArcKnight 3.5.1 with Wifi module http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597771
2.ICS stock kernel with CMW, just search in the development section u will find it
Hello,
I would like to do the following to my Arc S.
Flash new recovery
Flash new kernel (fusion)
Flash SJB latest version (7 i think)
I have been going arround the forums for 2 days now trying to figure it out but have been unable to do so.
The steps i need help with are as follows:
Where do i get recovery image for my ARC S?
i understand that using fastboot to flash it onto phone is rather easy.
As i understand after i get new recovery i can flash kernel and new rom from recovery mode?
How do i revert to android 2.3.4 4.0.2.A.0.62 if i dont like new rom / kernel?
GREAT BIG THANKS!

First of all you have to unlock the bootloader and you have to be on ICS
Then you can flash the kernel[with flashtool].
after flashing the kernel u can enter the recovery by presing the volume down buton until it brings you to cwm.
and the follow the instruction for instaling the rom
Good luck

Thanks for answer.
If my bootloader is "unlock available: yes" is that ok?
Will the fusion kernel 5.4 work with default rom's ? like GB 2.3?
how do i revert to stock kernel after flashing fusion? Emma?
Is recovery stored on a seperate partition that is not the rom / system partition? so i will always have recovery available?
Thank you!

Yes it is, but you must unlock it.[search in the forum]
fusion is for jelly bean roms, not for GB so far i know,.
if you want to revert to from ICS to GB you just have to flash the ftf.file from gb .62
if you have any problem tell me i will try to help you.
press thanks if i helped you!
Here is step by step how to unlock it

Bootloader can be unlocked
No. Fusion works with only custom JB ROM. For stock ROM use stock kernel.
You can use EMMA or Flashtool to flash an FTF file. Note that this will wipe your personal data.
No. The recovery that you're using now can either be stored on /system partition or merged with kernel. The one stored in /system requires root before you can install it.

Hey i got it done! i love sjb 7 its sick fast!
I first unlocked bootloader, after which the phone would no longer go past SE logo ( i had installed CWM for default rom and bootlocker blew up the kernel probobly)
after which i flashed Fusion 5.4 with fastboot
and then i applied SJB from SD card.
I did not think it would be that easy. it was.
Thanks to all and everyone who posted here got a Thanks

Hi guys i have a problem when I instaling the eXistenZ v2 on LT26. I rooted my phone i have recovery and when i install a rom have error nr 7 in revovery, any ideas?
Flash the kernel file from the rom itself
Try flashing the kernel from the rom itself bro this works most of the time Extract it first from the zip file of the ROM you want to install then install the kernel usually it is the boot.img file Flash it via fastboot mode using flashtool then voila you have the kernel of the ROM you want to use and most of the time the recovery comes with it too :good:

Are You on stock firmware? Existenz requires You to be on stock 6.2.b.1.96 firmware. Also, You have to flash v1 and then flash v2, not the v2 directly.

Do check, this ROM is stock based, so it doesn't have a separate kernel.
I flashed witth stock 6.2.b.1.96, and try to flash V1 witch recovery v6.0.3.0 but still error ''Error in /sdcard/xperia_s_existenz_v1.zip (status 7)'' Maybe try with other kernel?

Huh, weird. Just to verify, could You try downloading the v1 again? Or else, do You have a unlocked bootloader? If yes, then You can flash the DoomKernel.
Yes, i downloaded rom again, and i have lock bootloader witch no posibly to unlock 'allowed-no'' something like this, but this rom can be flash without unlocked bootloader.

Well, since You have a locked bootloader, You can't flash other kernels. Try this recovery, If even this one doesn't work, then try going back to full stock(no root, no recovery) and root using DoomLord's method and try above recovery again as it had worked for Me earlier.

This is waaaay late but, may help someone.
As I understand it, this is an issue with the kernel/recovery you have. You need to flash a boot.img with a combined kernel/recovery that is compatible with the rom you wish to flash. You use fastboot for that:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
So, for official CM11, grab boot.img from the rom zip file and you should get (a rather old but fine for CM11) CWM recovery.
For many other Acro S (hikari) roms you find - e.g. @deedwar's BeanStalk - you will get TWRP recovery if you flash the included boot.img file.
Once you've got the kernel/recovery flashed, then you flash the full rom after the reboot.

Yes, this is for unlocked bootloader only.
Just noticed OP mentions a locked bootloader in a later post.
Hello
I have a Z1 Compact with a pre-rooted stock rom, but a bootloader that can't be unlcoked.
My question is can I still use a custom rom? If so, how?
Thanks
PS. If this is the wrong forum then please move to appropriate forum.

AFAIK bootloader status is relevant to the kernel, as far as flashing roms goes, so if the rom has a non-sony kernel, there will be no way to flash it without unlocked bl. There are several stock-based custom roms that should still work if you have root and recovery, (rockz1, dstriker, Kryptonian, munjeni's modded roms, prfs...).

If you have recovery, you should get a flash of led light when you boot, (maybe purple or orange), when you see the flash, press volume up or down to enter recovery.
To get recovery, go here -
http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Go to xz dual recovery>xz dual recovery 2826> z1c combined. Download it and run the installer on your computer. You will need drivers installed, and probably adb.
