Then I wait a little while. The new update is new so give the DEVs time to crack it.

How to OTA when rooted?

My s4 is rooted and I want to update to 4.3 when it comes out in a few weeks. I'm only rooted with no custom rom. I only rooted for ad block..so how will this work? Will I have to unroot before OTA?
Usually root only is fine but I wouldn't be so quick to update to 4.3 if it does come out.
???
Really why not? How come it says my phone has been modified..
You cant ota rooted, but honestly you don't want to ota 4.3 unless you want to be stuck with it for a while. Knox is included and it makes things a bit complicated. Just wait for someone to make a Knox free 4.3 rom probably come out the same day as the ota

Okay?
What goes wrong?
What set up do you have?
What file are you using to flash in Odin?
We're happy to help you but you've given no description of the problem. We need as much detail as you can think of, dont' assume any detail is too small or unimportant.

Well basically I heard that the 4.3 update stops you from using odin to go back to 4.2.

Using a ? at the end of your sentence could have prevented confusions.
You're probably wondering about "Knox"?

I don't think Knox does stop it. You will just continue to have the knox flag tripped and as of yet that is not reversable. So it will be obvious that you used Odin.
I do think you can do it though.
(Not 100% sure)

Dont feel bad. Tmobile is the same way. Idk about yours but tmobile have a lock bootloader. And that maybe the reason
Can you at least explain what errors you receive...? You provided absolutely no details. Please provide what Skipjack asked:

Is there any hope that KNOX tripped flag could be inverted?! Does it only voids warranty or it prevents to gets new OTA updated from the provider to?
This is called the qfuse. All samsung s4's have it in some variety.
The gist is by updating it kicks a counter over on what is assumed to be a chip.
That count invalidates any previously valid signing certificates (and theirs speak pf restructuring the boot process to make it harder) preventing even signed installs of a previous signature.

[Q] How to Update to 4.4.2 on rooted via Vega

Hi I have a Rooted Tmobile USA N3 - MI7 rooted via Root de la Vega, how do I update to stock 4.4.2? The OTA does not work obviously. Any ideas and using the stock recovery but did not work either. Ideally like to keep Knox at 0.
Thanks
JS
Try with kies but you will loose root.

Not yet I'm sure in a couple of days a new method will appear to root. ...I updated with no problems through kies..I love the new changes but I hate not being able to customize anything. ...

Root is lost... The only way to root atm is to trip knox... Hopefully the de la vega method will be updated

Knox and upgrading

I have a T-mobile Galaxy S4 and it's currently running danvdh's GPE edition. I am considering updating via the OTA to get the new baseband/radio. I currently have the mixed MK2/MDL radio/baseband. I know that I'll get knox if I update...but IIRC, the Knox apps are able to be removed, and flashing new ROMs will trip Knox, but aside from voiding the warranty, what else does this do? Nothing? Lol

This is a full and complete answer, by the way. That is all it will do aside from the warrent.y It does not affect your daily use at all.
Just to confirm though. If I go back to complete stock and do this update and then apply any kind of root it will hit the Knox flag right?
Right now mine is still 0x0
Pretty sure it's flashing a custom recovery that trips Knox, not rooting.

I would like to point out that as of right now I have not seen a method to root 4.4 without tripping knox counter. 4.3 yes Saferoot works but not for 4.4

Is it safe for me to flash a recovery?

I just now decided to get root after having this phone for a month the only method I found for rooting was the towelroot.com app well I saw some ppl who have done this mention something about tripping something idk I've never heard of such a thing is it something serious? Could I just flash a recovery and start flashing roms? The whole reason why I rooted this phone thanks in advance

What is your end goal?
If you just wanted root, you have it. If you're wanting to flash a different ROM, then you'll need to first flash a custom recovery.
In regards to tripping KNOX, it voids your warranty. Gaining root doesn't trip KNOX, flashing a recovery will.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Free mobile app
Tripping Knox doesn't necessarily void your warranty but it may.. You can flash a custom recovery with flashify but your counter will be tripped, and you didn't need to disable anything Knox
Thanks ya'll

You can freeze all the KNOX stuffs with TB if you have problems with any annoying KNOX notifications. Most customs ROM devs take them out tho.
Oh I've done that actually haven't had that pop up since

There is a difference between the Knox security apps that can be frozen in TB and the Knox flag which shows up with the bootloaders newer than 4.2.2 MDL
