[Q] Guaranteed Way to Downgrade Without Bricking? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have an AT&T SGH-i747 running the OTA 4.3 and I want to downgrade it to stock firmware 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 but after doing some searching all I see are warnings that I will brick my phone. So is there really no way to do this without bricking?

Moved to Q&A.

Flashing any ROM always carries the risk of bricking.
Any particular reason you want to downgrade to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2?

if your purpose of downgrading is to unlock, I advice you to give up because you can't downgrade the bootloader

Do I need to update bootloader on a stock phone?

I'm gonna root and install a custom ROM on my friend's phone and I'm just wondering if I need to update the bootloader before installing any ROMs?
So should I root, then flash the bootloader update via Odin before installing a ROM?
Or can anyone give me a good process for doing that, it would really help

What version bootloader do you have now and version do you think you need?
I simply did a search on "bootloader" and found this relevant thread for you. Take a look a post #2.
Hope it helps.

I meant like my friend's phones are purely stock.. And I'm on a custom ROM. About a month ago we all got bootloader updates in order to use new ROMs so I'm wondering if that's what I need to do for my friends too, before flashing them a rom

I'm sure that it depends on what version bootloader is currently installed, and what version your ROM of choice requires. The fact that their phone is now "Stock" doesn't tell you anything. I am running a nightly version (7/7/13) of Rootbox (Doesn't get any newer than that) on a one year old S3, and have never updated my "Stock" bootloader because it was not necessary for what I need - and there isn't one newer.
Every time you flash, you are taking the chance of something screwing up. The only thing worse than bricking your phone would be bricking someone else's. IMO, you need to do some more research to answer your own question. The devil is in the details.
Good Luck.

If he is on the most current stock update provided by the carrier then the bootloader should already be updated.

does 4.3 Ota lock t889 boot loader

Not that I'm going to try it because im happy on 4.1.2 rooted , but I was just curious to find out if this is true if I update to 4.3 will lock the bootloader basically putting me in an AT&T situation

It won't necessarily "lock" it, but it'll restrict you from downgrading firmwares.

Cf-Auto-Root Questions

Does using it require an unlocked bootloader, and will it unlock the bootloader in the process?
Trying to help my friend root so he can back everything up, then unlock his bootloader.

For T999, if its on 4.2.1 or prior version of Android, then the bootloader is unlocked. If its on 4.3, the bootloader is locked and there is absolutely no known way to unlock it.

And that would mean there's no way to root on 4.3 if my friend is already there, correct?

Hmmm.............. Well, not quiet. But the problem is, you may trip that dreaded warranty bit. Visit the Root66 Thread and flash that image UVUEMJC.

Would flashing the 4.3 from that thread lock the bootloader? I don't think it will, but just want to be safe.

Since the phone is already locked, that Rom won't re-lock it. It won't unlock either. That's why I recommended that Rom (UVUEMJC). If you tried prior Root66 roms, you will brick the phone.

His phone is on 4.1.2 so the bootloader should be unlocked. If he were to flash the Root66 4.3 would it lock the bootloader?

Do not flash the root66.. instead flash a custom recovery with Odin and then flash a stock rom and update modem if you're gonna flash 4.3.. that is the safest to do it if your friend cares about warranty.. you can still flash the root66 and it will be rooted but it may trip the warranty bit, I'm not too sure

I'm fairly sure his warranty is up unless it's lifetime, because he's had it for 2 years. Either way, I was just checking in case he decided to, I think he just wants to root 4.1.2 and stick with that for now.
OK then just use cf auto root.. It even works with 4.3 so no need to worry about bootloaders or anything

[Q] its possible downgrade from UCDMG2 4.1.2 to UCDLK3???

hello people
its possible downgrade from UCDMG2 4.1.2 to UCDLK3, no brick the phone?
thanks
Which phone do you have? Try and find the 4.1.1 firmware on samfirmware and should be able to downgrade using Odin.
Downgrading always had its risks.

I have the i747, but had heard that has the locked bootloader and why I have not ariesgado.
The locked bootloader and knox came with stock 4.3 ROMs.
If you have never had stock 4.3 ROM on your phone, you can downgrade to 4.1.1 to unlock your phone, but there may be no stock 4.1.1 ROM for your phone, depending on your carrier.

hello, is to try to unlock the free.
Thanks for answering
You should be able to downgrade as long as you have never has your bootloader upgraded to 4.3 and you find the right 4.1.1 file.

The first thing is DO NOT TRY TO DWONGRADE THE 4.3 BOOTLOADER. You can Brick your Device. If you want to root the device. Check out the thread HERE.

In a word, no. Stick to the MK3, or MK5 modems.
