does 4.3 Ota lock t889 boot loader - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Not that I'm going to try it because im happy on 4.1.2 rooted , but I was just curious to find out if this is true if I update to 4.3 will lock the bootloader basically putting me in an AT&T situation

It won't necessarily "lock" it, but it'll restrict you from downgrading firmwares.

Att root and stock reflash

Is there a way to root without unlocking bootloader? Tried looking around find only Verizon topics and different replies on att.
Also is there a stock image to reflash if needed to get ota updates if needed?

Ok thanks how do I reflash the att stock image if I wanted that

once you have the bootloader unlocked and clockwork recovery installed you can make a complete backup of your phone in the recovery mode.
Thats what i did before i flashed a new rom. The stock att rom is not available here so you need to make a backup as far as i know
And ok I dnot want to unlock so I was going to go the route of flashing the other region firmware. But if I dint have the stock att firmware to go back to I dint want to do that. Guess I will have to wait to see if someone can figure out root without unlock. Thanks for the help though I understand now.

I had att but flashed to r800a 2.3.2 using wontanserver.com (its free just got to register) then used gingerbreak and updated OTA to 2.3.3 with bootloader locked. R800a is like att but no att bloatware.

Right but if you ever wanted to go back to r800at stock firmware is there a way?

I was wondering this myself, since I too have an AT&T play, running the 800a firmware on GB. I've been having some issues with it though. Is it possible to go back to AT&T stock?
No unless you unlock bootloader and find someone who made a back up of the att rom.
What problems are you having?

[Q] Will root prevent sim unlock code?

This might be a stupid question but I want to ask anyway. I just bought a T-Mobile Note 2 and am awaiting a sim unlock code (I know I can downgrade to 4.1.1 and unlock it via the hidden call menu but at this time I am not opting to do that). I flashed the 4.1.2 Root Injected Stock Rom. My question is, (which maybe I should have asked before hand) Will I be able to use the sim unlock code that T-Mobile provides me with despite being on the root injected 4.1.2 stock rom? Thanks!
No issues, I did it and it worked for me.

I unlocked it using the code provided by t-mobile.

Hey guys, just a heads up, if you are running 4.1.2 there is NO WAY to unlock your T-Mobile Note 2 without downgrading to 4.1.1 as far as I can tell. Even if you receive an official code from T-Mobile it will not work because when Samsung patched the security hole in 4.1.1 which allowed people to unlock their device manually they (accidentally) blocked any way of sim network unlocking. You can read all the complaints on the t-mobile website forums. So, with that being said you have to downgrade to 4.1.1 with Odin and access the hidden menu from the dialer. Just search the threads and you will find easy instructions.
NOTE: When you downgrade to 4.1.1 make sure you do a factory reset from recovery before you flash via Odin. After you flash the ROM your phone MIGHT go into a bootloop/hang on Samsung logo. Just go back into recovery and factory reset again. Give your phone about 4-5 minutes to boot up, just sit it on the table.
YMMV.
Thanks a lot for the tips but I downgraded before and it didn't work.
I still have a backup of the rooted 4.1.1 stock ROM. That's how I downgraded and tried to unlock but nothing happened.
Do u think I did something wrong or is there another way?

Just did sim unlock, would it be okay to flash a rom?

I just sim unlocked(http://www.sidhtech.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s4-guides-how-to-unlock-your-s4/10022101/) my phone by going from 4.1.2 back to 4.1.1 and hitting the number pattern on the dialer and it's now working on T-mobile. Can I install a custom recovery and a new rom and keep my phone sim unlocked?
Umm, what are you talking about? You need to root your device (which you can do) and install a custom recovery (which you cannot do due to the currently locked bootloader).

Unlocking Carrier

Hi my friend has my old galaxy s3 and its an ATT one and its still on the old 4.1.2 with the old modem and its unlocked carrier wise so he can use his T-Mobile Sim card. If I update it to 4.3 or the latest modem is it going to still be unlocked/ be able to be unlocked?

Yes it will, an unlock is permanent and cannot be undone. But if you ever want to root or flash a rom, I would not suggest doing this due to the fact that 4.3 makes rooting and flashing roms difficult, not to mention that you will not be able to downgrade.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Android 4.3 Sim Unlock

Is there anyway to Unlock the Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 with Android Version 4.3 , I tried everything , Downgrade Firmware , Change Modem to UVLJC and nothing . Help please
Flash a 4.1.1 or 4.0.4 ROM and modem (not Odin, or you will brick), then follow the unlock guide.
Alternately if you have the phone thru T-Mobile they will unlock it for you if the bill is current, or you can buy an unlock code online for under $10.

It doesnt work that way either. It lose the imei with a different MODEM, you need to flash it again the New Modem to recover the IMEI. Please I need to unlock this device. Any ideas?
Where 4.3 is concerned, there is no way to unlock using any of the previous methods. Your best bet is to call T-Mo
Im having problems sim unlocking as well. T mobile sent me a code that does not work. Still waiting on there help. Suggestions?

Well after calling TMobile again and spending close to an hour on the phone they escalated me to "Someone Will Call You Back" LOL
So Today I downloaded the stock 4.1.1 and loaded with odin. Then Used the steps in the below thread to obtain sim unlock without TMobiles help.

I hope this helps someone else as this is very frustrating to go through.

sim unlock 4.3
You only have two options... Option 1, You wait until kikkat 4.4 become available for upgrade then unlock the phone with same code. Or option 2, you find the stock rom that came with the the phone which is the ice cream 4.04. Then use odin to downgrade and then you can use the same code.
