I am on net10 using AT&T's network. I picked up the at&t m8 full price retail but I am thinking about returning it for the unlocked version or verizon version on HTCs website. I hate all this AT&T bloatware and plan to use it on other carriers or resell it when the next wave of flagships come along. But I have some questions about the capabilities of the different versions I was hoping you gurus could help me with.
1) Factory Unlocked M8 : I am unsure of the Root status and which carrier tree this would fall under and also AT&T LTE Support.
2) Verizon M8: I read that phone doesn't support AT&T LTE and only HSPA+? I also read that this phone will be entered into verizon's database so it would be more valuable resell down the road as you could use it with verizon or at&t? ( i have never been a verizon customer so don't know the benefit or process for bringing your own phone)
Thanks for your feedback!
Dev unlock and flash what ever ROM you need. I have t mobile with s-off and super Cid. I am using stock GPE ROM. No complaints

i am about to switch from the note 3 the only android phones i have used were from samsung so i am a total noob when it comes to the htc dev community...i am about to buy an m8 which is from verizon usa but is sim unlocked meaning it can work in my country pakistan...the questions i have are as follows
the phone is from verizon will i be able to flash all the custom roms like PA,CM and other AOSP roms?because in samsungs world there are different roms for tmobile etc.
will flashing roms affect my phones unlocked status?
can i turn my phone into a gpe edition phone?
if there are any other hiccups or bugs which i should check before buying the phone please fill me in folks.
First of you need to look at which bands are used in your country and compare them to the Verizon bands. Which can be found on google as I cannot link to other websites . Most countries outside of the US have carriers that use GSM networks so beware as verizon does not and uses a CDMA network. If you have a carrier in pakistan that uses GSM bands you can look at buying an AT&T version and look if bands coincide.
I would also suggest buying a unlocked phone which would make things much easier, as some custom roms cannot be flashed on the verizon/sprint version. If you want to flash custom roms you do need to unlock the bootloader. As I said above GPE roms usually do not work with verizon/sprint edition of a phone, as far as I know you can flash a GPE rom from phones on other carriers. Still I heavily suggest buying an unlocked phone.
I myself am using an unlocked HTC One M8 and have found no bugs whatoever and use a GPE rom and everything is smooth as silk. It's an amazing phone and worth the last penny but if your phone won't work with the bands in your country it's useless so be carefull!
If you can buy a used model with s-off. It'll save you any potential headaches.

thank you for the reply i checked up on the bands and they said it is gsm supported and the bands were alright but i found the verizon thread and there was a very weak number of roms so im holding off .
I have an S5 that I'm about to trade for the LG G3, however, the guy is using it on ATT and claims it's originally from Verizon and is unlocked, hence, why it's working on ATT.
My question is, will this device work on TMobile? I live in Miami, FL if it matters.
I would recommend sell S5 and buy T-Mobile branded G3, or trade for one. You can do either on swappa.com.

If its Verizon branded then it should be unlocked in which case yes any GSM carrier. I'm pretty sure all new Verizon smartphones are global these days.
All LTE Verizon phones released in the last few years are gsm capable and can work on tmob and at. The S5 can also. Just need to switch to global and for data add the correct APN settings

Hello,
I intend to buy verizon htc one on ebay. I can't buy unlocked version as because of tax regulations in my state can't pay more than $170, so my area of choise is quite limited.

Here is written, that it is a global device. What do they mean? How do you think, will it work outside US without necessity to unlock?
Thanks.
Verizon HTC one comes SIM unlocked out of the box. It supports edge 850/900/1800/1900mhz and hspa 900/2100mhz. It may or may not already have your carrier's apn preloaded.
This has been answered in the F.A.Q. sticky in this section.

So I was talking to a Samsung rep at a Best Buy and she told me they may release a Developers Edition of the Note 4. I Googled it and see confirmation that there will be a Developers edition and that it will be sold through Verizon but not subsidized to any carrier. It should be released mid-November and cost around $660.00 Full Price.
That being said, does anyone plan to get the Dev Edition in order to Root/ROM? I am still rocking my Galaxy S3 but may end up going with the Note 4 so long as it has full Root/ROM.
I already have a note 4 but i might...Is it going to be able to use AT&T's 4G LTE? or only H+?
It seems that it's going to be a Verizon exclusive and will stay that way... I guess that it could be unlocked but Verizon phones have no simcard right? So I assume it would never work with AT&T

Verizon uses sim cards now too. They use it for their 4g. If a verizon phone is unlocked it can be used on AT&T but usually only with H+. I just didn't know if there was a different case with this one. Why is verizon getting all of the good phones? Droid turbo and now this?
I'll probably wait until it does release to see if its compatible with AT&T but I definitely require it to be LTE and not just H+. Hopefully it is a fully unlocked device with all of the bands needed to work with AT&T.
If that's true I might even sell mine to get it
It's for Verizon only. They use a different LTE it's CDMA based so will be no help for ATT users. If you want to get one for ATT you need to have everyone blowing up their twitter Facebook etc to get one released.

Just maybe like verizon's previous iphones that worked on att and tmobile just fine. But still doesnt make sense a developer version just for verizon, we know most developers are on gsm, jk
My m9 recently has had one too many falls and I will be using Htc's Ut-Oh protection to get a new one. I really miss being able to flash custom firmware. I've searched around and I read that an unlocked m9 will not work on Verizon network. Will a Sprint m9 work on Verizon's service because they are both cdma? or will a Verizon m9 only work with Verizon's service. I might have to just have to settle and ship the phone out to receive s-off.
They're not fully compatible. The two carriers use different bands. So while you could possibly activate and use it, you won't get the coverage you expect.
