So I know this is nothing new but Im just so MAD!
My charging port burned while I was charging it. What the hell!!!
I take very good care of my phone & never put it through heavy usage, just the normal calling, texts and a little bit of Internet.
So my question is, where do I go from here. Can Samsung fix my problem. Or will they just turn around an say "Not Our Problem buddy" lol
But seriously this suck big time..
I'll try to upload some pictures asap.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Ps. I Don't have insurance through my provider.
I paid the phone in Full.

You can swap out the charging port yourself relatively easily.
Use this video guide. It's VERY thorough. It shows you how to COMPLETELY disasemble the S4. You will find that you have access to the charging port pretty soon in the dissasembly process.
I think you have to swap out that entire circuit board that the charging port is connected to. I mean you could desodler the port and solder a new one one, but that's a lot of work for minimal gain when you can buy the entire assembly for $8.
They are all over eBay.
Here's 1 example. I searched for S4 Chargine Port
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Chargin...e_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3a88d3b1c9
I think you are looking at maybe a 10-15 operation on the phone here with an $8 repair.
That's assuming that the fried charging port didn't blow something else out. But were I a gambling man, I'd bet that it somethign else did get fried it would be localized to something else on that lower circuit board and you need to replace that whole peice anyway.
The S4 is remarkabley easy to break down and change defective parts on. So don't get too upset. This is an easy fix.
Hey thanks for the reply I feel a little better now, actually a lot better.
You somehow built my confidence up & I may just fix it myself. First thing I gotta do is open up the hood on my s4 lol and go from there.
Thanks for the ebay link.
Oh one more thing, you mentioned something about a video? I see no link to the video.
Surprisingly S4 is still up an running just like any other day. Amazing I know! But sucks that I wont be able to charge it
So I gotta find a cheap replacement in the meanwhile. Anyways Im getting off topic now.
Thanks again for the reply I really appreciate it...

Get a wireless charger pad & receiver it uses different pins away from the usb plug. For file transfers use wifi

My bad....i cant link it from my phone.
But look at my profile and look for Threads Started By Skipjacks.
Like the 3rd or 4th one down is a thread on fixing a broken proximity sensor.
The link to the video is in the first post. I used the same video for the proximity sensor guide. It is a complete tear down video of every component on the phone.
Watch it and you will see how easy it is. The electronics are simple. Its getting the plastic case off that is the hardest...took me almost a whole minute!
Sent from your phone. You should be more careful where you leave that thing.

i tried, they wont cover accidental damage. And my warrantys been voided since someone opened it up..
I bought a second hand phone and it did turn on however there were a numbers of problems with my phone, it had a power button that didnt work, unresponsive parts on the lcd and a quiet in call speaker.
Your best bet before trying to replace the whole pcb is opening your phone using a teardown guide
http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-z-tear-down
Make sure you read it a couple of times and go through the pics so you know what your dealing with, find the power button, make sure its intact and adjust the ribbon cables.
Otherwise just find a cell phone repairer on a classified ad like criagslist or kijiji.

I hate to say it, but it was second hand for a reason. Ever try switching the battery? How about changing the power supply?

Yes. Start simple. First check your electron hose to make sure you are getting power to the device. Also check the battery as well as the prongs that connect with the battery tabs. If things are good there, then think about tearing into the phone.

no no, dont say that. This phone was fine for 3 months, i dropped it at a club i went to and water got inside the phone....i took it to 3 repair people and they all said the Main PCB motherboard is damanged (water) soo does anyone have any idea where i can find a motherboard?? i have no problem with costs of replacing it. As long as its not more than the phone itself.

You didn't mention water damage in the OP. You said something was loose. Water damage is completly different.
Try ebay.
Hey i found these 3 ads on ebay...do you guys think that a swap of the motherboards would be fine? heres the ads. I contacted the seller and they said the battery was used and thats it but phone seemes operational....i know its a risk, but is it worth it guys?
..need help on this one.
why swap the motherboards if the new phone is working fine. Just transfer data and you're done surely?

Reason being the other phones have minor problems, like speaker doesnt work, or some of those phones wont pick up signals and i think thats due to a bad radio flash or if i just flash a radio everything should be working fine.
can someone please clarify this? if i buy a phone with a speaker problem and transfer the main PCB board to my old phone...will there still be a speaker problem? or is the speaker a separate unit itself and not related to the pcb board?

one of the phones i am bidding for says it might not be able to guarantee a connection to mobile network (send sms, make calls) could that be a radio flash problem? would i be able to fix that??
another is one of the phones boots on and shuts off, i take it that could be a bad flash or something? its only about $20. just trying to weigh my options cause the new phones are lkike bidding for $350 lol im not that rich yet
I found out that my MOTHERBOARD is fine. There was water damage but not enough to go inside to the main board! My dad tested the battery voltage and found i wasnt getting any voltage.
i went to future shop and found a lady to let me use her battery and sure enough the battery was working and phone powered on!!! so i guess my battery was shot from dropping and popping out of phone while recording a video.

ordered these from ebay....are they any good? they look decent
Those look like the batteries I got. They were about 1/2 of the claimed mah rating. Worst case, they wiill get you running, and that charger is pretty good.

Do you think this works, has anyone tried it. Went through couple of reviews and it was kinda amazing. I think will give it a try, no harm in that unless i loose grip and completely discharge my phone for ever
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...per#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLnNoYWtlLmNoYX
it's a bunch of BS. it won't work, there is nothing internally to charge the phone through motion.
this is used on watches that have a movable weight and such...
The 'dev' is just getting a kick out of this... you shake the phone and probably look like... (if your a man) your giving yourself pleasure... - it's also meant to help show how much BS is on the play market - fake reviews and such.
You don't believe an app that references the concept of kinetic energy on Wikipedia
It's an app like thumb impression unlock, solar energy charge things to make fool out of friends.. but the concept is cool though.. lol
I did not find it convincing first but the reviews confused me. When i looked at the permission it requires on the phone, there was no doubt it is a BS app.

Battery charge through motion?... sure, stand up and plug it in.
Hi, wondered if anyone can offer any advice.
Knocked a cup of coffee over yesterday which covered my gnex. Now it wont charge.
From what I can see without dismantling the thing, its got some of that nasty greeny white stuff on the charging port.
Does this mean its a goner?
Thanks in advance
may have to buy a new charging port or scrap the errsion off
are they easy to fit?
honestly cant tell you never had to . i have dropped of messed up my gnex since i got it 6months ago
Ok, will take it apart and have a look. Cheers anyway
would you mid telling us if changing the charging port is a hassle once you are done please
Yeah will do. I'm lucky enough to know a Sammy engineer who might be able to help too. Cheers
I've read its relatively easy, but just a hassle to make sure everything is connected right so the darn thing turns on
Take the entire phone apart and wipe it down in rubbing alcohol. Reassemble, and your good to go
Should work like a charm

So the other day one of those metal strips where the battery connects into got somehow pushed into the phone. I was getting incorrect battery readings and it would, every now and then, act like it was charging when it wasn't. I decided to try to pull it out a little with some pliers, but accidentally pulled too hard and ripped it out of the phone. Now my phone is pretty much dead. I was wondering if there is any way to fix this, even if it is temporary, or if I should just bring it into a Sprint store and see what they can do. Thank you in advance for any help. EDIT: I apologize if this is not in the correct section of the forums.
You might need a replacement. You could bring it to sprint and act stupid. Or you can look up tuscani81 and buy the housing. I am pretty sure its a part of the housing. I could be wrong. If you ask him he can tell you

That's the worst.
Thanks, Patrao. I guess I'll look up that guy and see what he can suggest for me. If that doesn't work I'll act stupid for Sprint. lol
Just dont try to wedge anything in there. Not only could it be fire hZard but it could short the board and fry anytging you had in there. Goodluck man.

Could you upload a picture of the damage, OP? Any battery contact is part of the motherboard. Either you replace the contact cradle 'soldering skills required' or you replace the motherboard.

So my wife's power switch finally quit on her s2. We have since upgraded to note 3's, and gave our s2's to our daughters. I was going to just get the power switch replaced, but found a great deal on a complete mother board. Is there anything special that I will need to do to replace the board, other than unplugging all the connections and hooking up new board? Thanks in advance.
Nope, everything should be like butter. As long as the boards are identical it should just fit n snap. I have 2 t989's that id switch boards once in a while for fun, after 4-5 times, one of my boards stopped showing display but works with hdmi adapter to my big screen. Guess too many snaps on the board or something. Any problems, hit me up.

Thanks man, I appreciate the info!!. I have the board out already, very simple for sure. I just didnt know if it would need to be reflashed or something like that. Im guessing I might have to update it and restore her phone and apps more than likely? The board should be here by Friday. Picked it up off of ebay for 40 bucks with a 30 day guarantee to be in fully working condition, crossing fingers. Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
Any good news about that board? How'd it go?
