F240L here, coverted it to e988 using the g2 apps rom v5 and i'm pretty happy with it but had some questions.
1. How do I get into recovery? Should I use the recovery app in the utility apps folder? Or is it safer to get into recovery when booting up?
2. Can I update to v5.5 from v5? Or do I have to go back to stock and then go to v5.5? Im guessing going back to my backup before flashing the rom would work, but it would be nicer if I could skip that step.
Any answers would be appreciated, thanks!
You can boot into recovery with whatever apps in utility folder, freegee offers a reboot function too. I don't think there is such a thing as it is safer to boot into recovery from powered off, I forgot the key combination for booting into recovery from powered off . You don't have to go back to stock to "upgrade" to v5.5. You probably won't see much improvement , also there's been report of instability of the v5.5 build.
For boot into cwm: volume up, home and power off/on button

Thanks for the replies, guess I'll hold off on changing to v5.5 then.

Suffice to say it would be safe for you as well to know how to boot to recovery manually, especially when in bootloop situations. On my part I'm able to boot to recovery by 1.) pressing and holding both Vol. Up button and Power button, up until LG Logo appears then 2.) Once the LG screen disappears, i just constantly press Vol. down button twice then Power button afterwards. If the LG Logo re-appears i just keep on doing step 2.
As for g2 apps v5.5 rom, i just flashed it today,i'll try to be your notify you of any glitches i may encounter

Ok i had a rooted phone,
and installed rom manager it was also flashed to cricket wirelss also.
anyways i decided to try and install the cm7
So i did and before that i made a back up via rom manager app
And so i updated and it installed
and now when i turn on phone
It stays at the cyanogen mod 7 with icon blue icon screen
and circle thing
How do i boot into recovery menu????
I had the latest recovery menu also,
I NEED HELp i just want to restore my backup from before.
First off you should power it off completely, then hold the power button and volume down at the same time. Next, you need to navigate the bootloader and go down(with volume down key) and select recovery with the power key. That should take you to recovery. I hope you made a nandroid before you flash another rom; if you did just restore your nandroid and you should be good to go.

I have a Sprint Galaxy S3, rooted, Clockworkmod, ROM Manager and running CM 10.1.1 stable. My phone reception seemed to have taken a dive, so I started researching flashing a new radio in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787677
At some point in the thread, somebody scared me into doing this:
If youve never backed up youre nvram before u might be SOL but just in case
In terminal emulator type:
Su (press enter)
Reboot nvrestore (press enter)
Which I did (not the brightest move on my part, apparently). Now when the phone starts I get the Samsung sign, the Galaxy S3 sign with the Cyanogenmod man at the bottom, then it buzzes and starts over again. I cannot get into recovery. Any ideas? Am I SOL?
Thanks
Does it boot up to the OS ? If it does you can try loading Recovery again with either Flash Img GUI, or Rom Manager. Also for Firmware / modem / baseband I would suggest heading over to freeza's thread HERE.

I'd love to but I can't get the PC to recognize the phone. :/
Do you consider yourself to be a great recovery enterer? I'm being totally serious. Took me some time to learn how to do it. Or are you the type that only goes into recovery by holding Power in android, or you click recovery in Rom Manager?
I would suggest to hold Power, Home and the Up Volume Button until you see the samsung logo with Recovery on the top. If that doesn't work, pull battery, and now try download mode, by holding Down Volume button and Power and Home.
Good Luck my friend.

Couldn't get into recovery at all. I'm almost done flashing stock ROM through Odin, that was the only way the PC would recognize the phone. Hoping this does the job.
Did you get this sorted out ?
Hi All,
Repost since I posted this question in the wrong forum before. Sorry for the spam.
I tried to flash my E980 (already rooted and running Carbon ROM nightly build 10/10/2013) with the latest ROM nightly build 10/24/2013.
When in TWRP 2.5.0.0, I wiped everything except the external SD, added 10/24/2013 build image, gapps, and modem zips and hit install rom.
The flashing stopped due to error saying the MD5 signature of the build image zip is bad.
Now I am left with a device with no OS installed. When I power it on, after the initial LG logo flash, nothing happens.
Would you please tell me how to get back into the recovery mode? Thanks a lot.
I have re-downloaded the ROM zip and put it in the external SD.
At this stage, do I have to use LG flash tool to flash the factory ROM first, then do root,...? Or can I flash the custom ROM directly.
Flash the ROM in cwm directly

Do this
To boot into recovery do this.
Switch off by removing battery,
Re-insert battery,
now hold vol up+home+power button at same time n release it when u see LG logo. This will boot into recovery.
Wipe data and flash the ROM.
Good luck
Edit: I'm not sure if it's vol up or vol down. It's one of those though. Getting into recovery is bit tricky. But I have done it before. If it fails remove the battery again and try once again.

StarkV5, thanks a lot!
It is "volume up + home + power". Returned to TWRP 2.6.1.0 recovery and flashed 20131104 CM10.2 today. Everything works smoothly except that the screen touch issue in TWRP. The touch calibration was spot on during the first use after TWRP install. After a reboot, the touch is so off. It is like working with a 960*540 screen, i.e. the top left quadrant of the E980 screen.
Thank you (and Neroga too) again!
shutdown it down - turn off the phone wait few secs before going to next step
hold volume up button while holding power button also
when lg logo appear release/unpress power button just for a sec or two and then press and hold it back
Done
if its not working, it must be, u dont have recovery installed
use freegee to install one
hi
I dont understand
I try alot off time but dont secsuss
Assuming that the phone's power is off:
Hold down volume up button, then push the power button and hold it down. Count to 4 and stop holding the power button, but keep holding the volume up button. You should see the lg logo and then your recovery 5 ~ 7 seconds afterwards. Btw, which recovery are you using?
Custom recovery?
Is there a way to install a custom recovery on this phone? I read conflicting reports. I'm on 4.4.2 rooted and would to make a back up of my system, add zips, etc.

Have you try freegee in the play store? It installs the older version of cwm or twrp, but it's a start. Once you install the custom recovery, you can try flashing the newer version such as Philz cwm or newer version of twrp.
thanks
i do all this but no chances to enter into recovery
can help me with a video for that method
check if u have recovery mode installed
get FreeGee
and boot to it

I tried that before and got error messages. Some people say it worked and some say they had to wipe everything and it still did not work. Maybe the newer version works as I tried this 2 months ago.
Are you rooted?

first just make sure that your device is rooted, download Optimus G Pro Custom recovery (try to search on google, i found many links last time i download it), install that .apk on your device and then run it, choose flash recovery, and then choose reboot recovery. you will have recovery now. hope this helps.
Heyy! I wanna install twrp and then install cm12 nightly but I've read on other threads that flashing twrp directly will brick my phone and I'll have to install cwm first then cwm touch then twrp from there but on another thread it tells me to directly install twrp from freegee on stock JB.
Can anyone explain this to me? It's really confusing and I wanna know if flashing twrp will brick my phone. Im on stock kk but ill go back to JB and try it. Someone tell me if thats a good idea?

While you're on stock ROMs, just use Philz Touch. But if you ever go to like CyanogenMod or any other non-stock ROM. Flash that ROM with Philz Touch, then flash official TWRP. After, you can stay on TWRP once running a custom ROM.
Just rooted today to stock lollipop and finally had success with some good help. Using TRWP I tried to install Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha and then the xposed-arm* zip from this site: http://www.gammerson.com/2015/03/apkdownload-xposed-framework-30-for.html. After flashing the zip I rebooted using the TWRP and now I stuck at the Samsung blue boot screen. Tried the combo for shuting down several times but it would only go to the battery charging screen. Then tried booting into recover and still no luck.
You flashed the wrong xposed framework.
Restore the system backup you made in twrp before flashing the xposed zip.
If you don't have a backup then you ballsed up. Never make modifications to the system partition without having a backup first.
You will now need to reflash the stock Rom.
I did a nanroid backup but I can not get back into recovery. How can I do that when I am stuck on the blue Samsung screen. I tried shutting down using the power+volume+home but no joy. Do I wait for the battery to discharge completely and the recharging and try to get back into recovery?

Hold POWER + VOL DOWN. As soon as it restarts hold POWER + HOME + VOL UP. Do NOT release until it boots into recovery.
That only takes me to Odin mode?

See edit, your post didn't clarify your issue.
The reason I flashed TWRP with the TWRP Manager is basically I had forgot that this ROM had TWRP already, did I screw up bad? I feel like a idiot! When I hold power+volume down+home it takes me to Odin mode. Could it be that I have the USB cable plugged in because it completely discharged to zero over night while it was stuck on the blue Samsung screen. Hopefully this more explains my situation.
Plug in the charger. Wait until it's a few percent charged and the battery shows as green. Then from that state hold POWER + VOL UP(not down) + HOME until it boots to recovery.
Finally got to TWRP and restore the nanroid backup and did the cache/dalvik wipe and rebooted. Now am backup and running, thanks for all the help, very kind. Where can I get a proper Xposed installer for tablet running lollipop?
Alpha 4 is out now. Also see the thread below, try v2 then v3 framework.
Your Rom needs to be deodexed.
Make sure before flashing the zips you make a backup of your current framework. If it doesn't work you can put your original framework back using the file manager in twrp.
Which thread? All I see are the builds in your signature. I you were speaking of the thread below mind on the front page of the Q&A I do not see anything related to xposed installer. BTW is okay to continue using TWRP 2.I.0.6 or do I really need to flash the latest one?
