I'm running hyper drive rls2, I'm not sure if I'm missing something or just drawing a blank, but I can't set any lock screen security. This is a fresh flash and can't quite figure out what's wrong. I have no active device administrators.
Thanks.

Your screen shot shows you have 2 lock screen capability allowed by your administrator which would indicate you are using something on your device which has restricted the access of your device.
Perhaps you are using your phone with company data via an Exchange account (Touchdown??) Perhaps.
If so, that is done on purpose and should have nothing to do with the ROM you are using.
I don't have any exchange accounts or anything. I'm gonna flash a new rom and see if it stays the same. I like this rom that's the only reason I was trying to figure it out.

Same here! I've unchecked all device administration, cleared credentials and decrypted everything! The exact same things are greyed out and I'm using hyperdrive also. It actually started happening when I upgraded to kitkat. It was fine when I was on 4.3. Any suggestions?

I just had another crash replying to a post here using tapatalk. The keyboard had small pink corruptions as if video memory had an issue.
I pulled the battery for about 10 seconds, tried to turn it back on. No dice. I tried again except pulled the sim as well, that worked.
Maybe some of us having crashes are sim related?

I've had to do a second battery pull today. Phone locks up then about 5 seconds later the display goes dark. Not fun.

I froze twice in the past three days. I was using hand cent and browsing. The battery had to be pulled in order for restart.

Yesterday I noticed GetJar was keeping the device awake (in battery stats), but otherwise it was responsive and all good. I uninstalled GetJar and rebooted for good measure. It powered down fine, but wouldn't power back up. I had to pull the battery.
My first 'battery pull' so far!
I had my first crash today while I was replying to an SMS message. The screen produced these broken specs of green.
I couldn't exit from the SMS, eventually the screen turned itself off and then nothing.
I had to perform a battery pull to fix.
When the phone booted back up ICS complained that the launcher had crashed.
Instead of clicking 'stop' I clicked 'wait'.
Phone returned to normal after that.

Did you guys restore old apps/app data from your previous Android device? If so, factory reset and START FRESH.
I can't count the people I know that had issues all stubbornly because they refused to start fresh from a new device.

I didn't use a restore. I just added my Google account and let the phone download my apps that I more or less had from my Nexus One.
Is that OK to do?
Or should I have done something else??
Let me know, Thanks.

This is how it works. When you login all the apps install automatically.
I just noticed this morning that a bunch of apps I had uninstalled already on my GN automatically reinstalled. Odd right?

If you have "force 2d rendering" checked in the developer settings, that will cause many issues.

I don't have any dev options on. I'm basically seeing what others are. Lockup, sometimes with screen corruption, then the display eventually goes black some short amount of time afterward. Battery pull required. I thought it may be heat related at one time but it has happened when the device was relatively cool. Seems like a software driver issue that can hopefully be addressed.

Hi!..I have an issue with the screen. Sometimes when I keep my phone aside my phone screen suddenly lightens up shows the pattern unlock page and automatically turns off. This happens 4-5 times in succession. First I thought its because of the antivirus app so I uninstalled it but still the problem persists. Does anyone know why this is happening? Any suggestion will be helpful.

I think we'll probably need a lot more information than that...
It could be anything. When I have mine plugged into my computer and the screensaver kicks on or when the laptop falls asleep, it does the same thing to mine because the USB power is cycling but it could be anything. Are you rooted? What ROM? What kernel? What is the battery state? Go into settings > apps and see what's running, start testing those out.
If your rooted, the problem with the screen waking is possibly superSU granting an app root access. Its usually a toast pop up saying that an interactive shell has been granted. At least it has been for me in the past. You can turn the notification off in the superSU settings.

my gf's HD2 used to do the same thing after she dropped it on its bottom right corner.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
My Nexus does that from time to time. Running AOKP JB preview builds. Latest franco kernel. Screen just turns on. No popups, no notification, just shows the lock screen until it times out again. Doesn't do it enough to worry me but it is a little odd.
No I have not rooted my nexus, using ICS 4.0.4. My phone is yakjuxw so haven't got the JB update yet..I have general apps like Facebook, whatsapp, power toggle, etc to name few.

Next time it does it see if your phone says charging even though not plugged in. Could be a bad charge port on your phone.
Had the same thing. The culprit turned out to be folder sync.

After I updated my phone to jelly bean via the root 66 inject method my screen seems to not time out.
I have my display timeout set to 15 seconds and I have smart stay turned on.
My question is did the update do this to my phone or is it possible that something on my phone is keeping my phone awake.
If that's the case how can I solve this problem?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Have you tried with smart stay off?
Make nandroid backup first. Then in app manager try wiping data for settings/settings storage.
If thst doesn't help, then factory reset using cwm or twrp. (Stock recovery will also wipe your internal sd)
It may be that there's some data from before you updated that's causing your problem.

I appreciate the help but It still seems to ignore my timeout settings... guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it while I try and trouble shoot certain apps.
Again thank you for you suggestions

Download extended controls and add toggles Screen always on and stay awake. make sure that both of these are disabled. its a weird bug. I had this problem when I was chraging my phone and the screen would never turn off.
Try fixing permissions in recovery. If that doesn't help, make buckup to external sd and try odin again

I was having this issue with my S3, 100% stock. I tried restarting the phone, power off then power on, hard reset and nothing worked. What did end up working was setting a different timeout than what was selected and going back to the home screen, then I went and changed the timeout duration to the one I wanted, went back to the home screen and then restarted my phone. My phone has been working fine and timing out like it should for the last week and a half.
Sometimes when I get a SMS my screen won't turn off. Only started to happen after JB.

Is it just me? After rooting and cwming my phone my system default time is always in the 1970's so it messes up the cwm back ups and things. If you have your phone on airplane mode and reboot it won't grab the time from the network so that how you can check. I only noticed it when I brought in cwm. I've tried different versions of cwm never gotten it fixed though. Oh I'm always aosp, Rom/kernel makes no difference
Can anybody confirm this? Or share any fixes?

Hey look, for a while now I have been using the script and app here.
It's called oNandroid.
- perform backups without rebooting.
- manage stored backups and the dates are correct.
- If you ever need to restore, reboot to CWM.
- It's super convenient and works perfect for me.
Problem solved...and a bag of chips!
(lots of options. Can be used with the GUI or with any script app)
Enjoy
I read something koush posted in Google+ a while back. It has to do with the way the chip set is programmed it doesn't communicate the way it's supposed to to update the date stored on the chip. I guess if you turn on airplane mode and then reboot it will default to the same date. If you pay attention every time you boot the phone it polls the server for date and time.

I figured it was something funky more or less hardware related. Are you saying there's not much hope it can be easily updated?
I can totally live with it, it's really not a big deal.
Besides sometimes it's fun to send people text messages with a 1970's date stamped on it.

This phone was my dads until he got a new one, but he only has a limited amount of time to retrieve the data before it goes back to T-mobile or else he has to pay money for the broken phone core. It was dropped, and broke the digitizer but not the screen. As of now, the display doesn't work at all, but I can hear the phone turn on just fine. I have been trying to think of how I can access the internal storage without tearing the phone apart and getting to the storage directly(not sure if that would work either).
- Not rooted
- USB debugging not enabled. I thought I might be able to get to the storage via adb, but that will be useless without usb debugging activated.
If I need any more information, let me know.

Unfortunately, a solution was never found in that thread. Same exact problem though. The only difference is that my screen doesn't work at all. Completely black. The only thing that reacts to touch is the very very bottom of the screen below the capacitive buttons. Without USB debugging enabled, I'm in the same boat as the other users in that thread.
It's been a while since I used kies, so I don't remember much about it, but is there a way to make a backup using kies?
Sent from XDA app
Does the digitizer recognize anything, or is it really FUBAR?
Edit - actually read the last post by OP...
Is there a way to turn debugging on in stock recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Well, I tested it myself and I was able to connect the phones to kies and create a backup without ever touching the device. I don't have any security lock on my phone though, so it might not work if the screen is locked? I'm also not sure if you can back up everything, or just photos, videos, etc. Hopefully at least that will help someone with the same problem who searched and found this thread...
Digitizer is completely screwed up. No responding to anything on the screen, and the screen is completely black. Even if I was able to get to stock recovery, I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing. I'll look into Kies and see if it will work.
Well seeing as how stock recovery responds to side buttons, someone with stock recovery could map it out for you...
Also, can't you get to ADB from recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Is it possible to get to adb through recovery? I still don't have usb debugging enabled, so unless there is a way to activate it in recovery, then I don't know if it'll work.
It may work... Its worth a shot. Also, Google is your friend on this topic.
