After the Jellybean update my phones screen seems to not turn off. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

After I updated my phone to jelly bean via the root 66 inject method my screen seems to not time out.
I have my display timeout set to 15 seconds and I have smart stay turned on.
My question is did the update do this to my phone or is it possible that something on my phone is keeping my phone awake.
If that's the case how can I solve this problem?

Have you tried with smart stay off?
Make nandroid backup first. Then in app manager try wiping data for settings/settings storage.
If thst doesn't help, then factory reset using cwm or twrp. (Stock recovery will also wipe your internal sd)
It may be that there's some data from before you updated that's causing your problem.

I appreciate the help but It still seems to ignore my timeout settings... guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it while I try and trouble shoot certain apps.
Again thank you for you suggestions

Download extended controls and add toggles Screen always on and stay awake. make sure that both of these are disabled. its a weird bug. I had this problem when I was chraging my phone and the screen would never turn off.

Try fixing permissions in recovery. If that doesn't help, make buckup to external sd and try odin again

I was having this issue with my S3, 100% stock. I tried restarting the phone, power off then power on, hard reset and nothing worked. What did end up working was setting a different timeout than what was selected and going back to the home screen, then I went and changed the timeout duration to the one I wanted, went back to the home screen and then restarted my phone. My phone has been working fine and timing out like it should for the last week and a half.

Sometimes when I get a SMS my screen won't turn off. Only started to happen after JB.

Please, hard reboot your phone!

I believe that once you've done your first hard reboot on this phone the UI becomes permanently jumpy/choppy/laggy. Anyone?

i'll test that as soon as mine arrives next week, until then i can't verify much
No lag here after 2 reboots. One of which was pulling the battery after turning the phone off to get the serial number.

yeah, i remember you did that for the other guy, that was looking for the battery part number
By hard reboot I mean VolUp+Power. I'm not talking about powering off the phone.

that's technically a factory / ROM reset back to default
Exactly my point. It should be stutter free by default, right?

Why would you do that anyways??

Dude, I just spent the last two days getting the phone setup the way I want it...
When we get root and I can create a nandroid backup I'll try a factory reset

I have hard reset and factory reset my device at least 6 times without issue really. I had to do it the first time since I tried to port over 26000 texts it didn't seem to like that too much =)

Dude, it's different from Factory Data Reset. It doesn't erase affect your setup. Ok. How about a simple reboot - just by holding power button. Can you do that and tell me what happens?

My routine to make it relatively smooth: Power Off / Power on while holding VolUp+Power and waiting for it to vibrate a couple of times / Turn off display animations / Turn off wallpaper scrolling.

When you hard reboot it actually factory resets the data the reason its lagging cause its reinstalling all the Bloatware Tmobile put on it. So you need at least 5-7 minutes.
Ive already done a hard reset on my phone after receiving it and the reason was i had a issue with music on my sd card. I dont see the lag you speak of. If its persistent then get it replaced. I have no issues as of yet with the phone and its running great. My only slight issue is battery but that is most likely due to bloat.

Have done plenty of normal reboots via the power button (power off then power on) and pulling the battery. Mine is still quite a bit more snappy than the Vibrant it replaced.
Can somebody smash their phone for me and let me know if its damaged after? It seems all phones are damaged after they're smashed.
Seriously op, if you know it messes up the phone, why ask others to do it? Why would anybody do that anyways? Seems pointless.

I've smashed mine several times, one of which was even a sledgehammer dropped from a 3-story building right onto the glass. no damage here, it's actually less damaged than my MT4G was fresh out of the box
Sorry, just had to post the other side of things too lol

Crashing issues possible cause

I just had another crash replying to a post here using tapatalk. The keyboard had small pink corruptions as if video memory had an issue.
I pulled the battery for about 10 seconds, tried to turn it back on. No dice. I tried again except pulled the sim as well, that worked.
Maybe some of us having crashes are sim related?

Yesterday I noticed GetJar was keeping the device awake (in battery stats), but otherwise it was responsive and all good. I uninstalled GetJar and rebooted for good measure. It powered down fine, but wouldn't power back up. I had to pull the battery.
My first 'battery pull' so far!
I had my first crash today while I was replying to an SMS message. The screen produced these broken specs of green.
I couldn't exit from the SMS, eventually the screen turned itself off and then nothing.
I had to perform a battery pull to fix.
When the phone booted back up ICS complained that the launcher had crashed.
Instead of clicking 'stop' I clicked 'wait'.
Phone returned to normal after that.

Did you guys restore old apps/app data from your previous Android device? If so, factory reset and START FRESH.
I can't count the people I know that had issues all stubbornly because they refused to start fresh from a new device.

I didn't use a restore. I just added my Google account and let the phone download my apps that I more or less had from my Nexus One.
Is that OK to do?
Or should I have done something else??
Let me know, Thanks.

This is how it works. When you login all the apps install automatically.
I just noticed this morning that a bunch of apps I had uninstalled already on my GN automatically reinstalled. Odd right?

If you have "force 2d rendering" checked in the developer settings, that will cause many issues.

I don't have any dev options on. I'm basically seeing what others are. Lockup, sometimes with screen corruption, then the display eventually goes black some short amount of time afterward. Battery pull required. I thought it may be heat related at one time but it has happened when the device was relatively cool. Seems like a software driver issue that can hopefully be addressed.

Power off issue

I'm on ICS UVLE1 and it seems that I am suffering from a power off issue where the magenta T-Mobile box stays on and the phone never really shuts off. It says brightly lit and I have to force it to turn off by pressing the power button for 30 seconds. It just sucks. It happens whenever I want to reboot or power off my phone. It just never really shuts off or restarts.
I still can't seem to fix this problem and I'm just not enjoying my experience on ICS or maybe my Galaxy S2 is one of those bad apples. Sad to say, I guess my expectations were a little to high. :-/
I rooted and installed ICS mms gallery and calendar . I notice this issue you have l but it restart fine just lag on power off so I just hold power down no biggie

I've even tried reinstalling, wiping, etc. Also, time zone resets to zero. F'ing annoying.

This issue has been addressed many times. Look for dark side cache wipe. Flash it. Then you should be good to go. It has to do with using cwm to flash roms. Don't use the wipe feature in it, flash either super wipe "everything" or cache wipe from TDJ.

This is a very well known issue. If you are unrooted, do a factory reset. If you are rooted, flash TDJs cache wipe.

Also, the Dark something super wipe works wonders. Wipe, reinstall ROM, and you're ready to go.
In the Q& A forum, I posted the instructions. In the development section, you can find the Super Wipe.

I was having this exact issue during shutdown and reboots. It went away after flashing TDJ's Darkside.Cache.Wipe.
I had the same issue, just reinstall it and you'll be fine.

Are you on stock ? If so then just do as stated above. If you are rooted, we might need more info.
I installed several roms full wipe and still same thing some roms worst then others but over all same thing
Tried using different scheduler/governor?
Also, are you doing anything specific when it locks up? Any app being used?

Am I the only one with Wifi sleep issues?

Just about every time my phone deep sleeps, wifi shuts off completely. I've tried multiple roms and kernels, and every advanced wife setting combination possible. Thinking it's a hardware issue in which case bye bye nexus.
I've googled and googled and only really found suggestions like "uncheck wifi optimization" or "make sure turn wifi off while sleeping is (un)checked". Tried all of that, and still persists.
Anyone else have this issue, or can someone give me an out of the box tip?
Thanks

You've probably already tried this, but have you tried a full wipe? Also, have you tried wiping you device's internal memory (SD card), and have you tried reverting to complete stock and starting over?
its a known issue with 4.2.2 roms, nothing much you can do about it, temporarily it can work but problem will repeat itself
I have done a full wipe, but not wiped the sd card, or reverted to stock. Hoping to avoid such a tedious task.
So my options are either suck it up, revert to a 4.1 rom, or get a new phone?
Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion, let me try and report back later to see if this works.
This problem has been constantly bugging me that I want to dump this phone. Seriously disappointed with Google over all these bugs...
but I keep wifi optimization off... should I keep it on?
If you are unlocked, you can flash some custom kernels to fix the problem. I use Fancy Kernel and the developer included a fix in the kernel.
Fancy Kernel OP
Work-around for Wifi drops (Kernel specific)
After fiddling with the Wifi Optimisation, I would like to report back that it DOESN'T WORK.
