4K in the park, thx Baljeet Rana
Danny Winger made a 7a walkthrough and posted a 4k video
Analyzing the shots posted so far, the Oppo Find 7a's IMX214 sensor captures impressive amount of details, high per pixel sharpness with nice all around clarity thx to the consistently sharp lens and low amount of post-processing. HDR is working well too, no inconsistencies. I guess saturation could be a slightly bit higher. Video clarity is quite nice too, 4k offers all the details we can ask for.

The camera produces sharp, highly detailed, images with good dynamic range and fine color reproduction, at a few shots sky blue is maybe a tad on the purple side, nothing too much.
HDR is quite aggressive, bringing a lot of clipped dark and bright details alive. It appears there's a little saturation boost too
The phone can capture up to 32 second frames meaning you can do highly detailed low ISO shots as well as artistic DSLR-like ones during the night, this one's my favorite so far:
Loving the rear camera. Only complaint is the subpar slow motion '720p' video. Really looks like maybe 480p upscaled, not impressive.
Taking some great shots, quick focus and shutter. Great night auto night shots compared to my S4 and panorama stitches nicely for me in the one or two I've tried.
Front camera leaves something to be desired for me though. I understand there's the beautify filter that's enabled by default, but I notice a pretty bad foggy haze from there as well. Might just be the indoor lighting conditions I've tried with, but not impressed yet.

Wow, the macro shots are really impressive... Cool - Can't wait for my Oppo Find 7 (DHL - it should be here before weekend)

Have anyone noticed that the camera quality is really bad?? especially for a 5 mp camera?? I noticed lots of noise, lines, etc especially shooting in low light. My LG Optimus One with 3mp produces way better photos, My old HTC Kaiser 3mp also produces very good pics, heck even my friends Nokia 5230 2mp camera shoots better photos.
So my question is, is it only me?? or is the camera of the defy really bad?? or is it some bad drivers?? I have bayer lens and using CM7 RC 1.5 and YES i change the quality of photos to 5mp, with Super Fine in the settings
depends on lense buil within your defy, red lense will take better shots and is capable of 720p recording
photos taken with green lense are really bad
I have red lens but photos are good only in good light - optimal is sunny day outside.
I think - you should not tu suggest only number of megapixels, but quality of lens.
You can't compare different camera base only on this.
I have a green lense Defy running MIUI 1.8.26, and it takes great pictures, IMO.

That is indeed good quality... so i guess its a matter of drivers or some software patch... if MIUI werent closed source, we could probably copy the drivers or patch or whatever...

Only because OV5642 is NOT supported in any kernel. So it's been using generic driver in pre-defy+ kernels.

Wow, the pics from my green lense Defy are horrible; irregular green tint allover, dim and pixalated
For reference, this painting is just black and white. I have the patch you referenced applied, but it only affects the jpeg compression level; it does nothing for the horrible color quality.
The camera on the Defy must be the worst part on an otherwise excellent device.

If you're still having issues with picture quality, try using different camera applications. I've noticed that my camera took terrible pictures with CM7 camera app, had to use camera 360 for awhile. When I switched to MIUI, the MIUI camera took better pictures.

Taken with my beautiful Defy, same defy as you have with same camera Software. With stock Software from motorola, your photos will be much better, can't compare with cm7 and miui..
Using Macro, Landscape and Automatic Focus.
You only need to learn how to use your Camera, and, Defy, is not a camera, just a SmartPhone, so don¡t spect too much..
in cm7-110822 with bayer lens i have great quality photos and video. depends on the rom and the camera module, as said before
it depends on the app you use for taking images
I tried the stock app and the images were horrible
but when tried app called camera 360 the images were very very wonderful
so you can change the app and try the camera 360

i don't think camera of DEFY is that bad... i have a GREEN LENS defy... and here are the pics i have taken with it.... i have to admit defy takes awesome pics outdoors... and okay kinda pics indoors... and at night its bad...

with camera 360:

and a pic taken when it was raining
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4760/img20110827131742.jpg
not much difference between the stock camera and camera 360 ( even with the superfine setting enabled and the image size increased)
and also the video clarity of DEFY in outdoors is way better!! here is a video i have upload it to a filehost instead of video host coz of compression issues
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1983194051/VID_20110911_130049.m4v
and the videos indoors with decently lit rooms are quite satisfactory for me..
all in all its YOU who can make a pic memorable
Defy has probably the worst camera of all the current gen android phone!...it'sreally a shame that it sports a 5m.p sensor & takes pic of such low q!...instead of giving more m.p,moto should have done its homework to give's paying consumers a Good Quality camera.it fails against my 7+yr old 2 m.p s.e k750i or my 5 yr old 3.2 m.p Nokia N73 m.e!....with all other things so great, defy's lowest point is probably it's camera!
My previous phone (Samsung Wave) produced astonishing pictures and videos even in low light. Defy's camera problem is low light situations. There is so much noise on the pictures. In good light the quality is pretty good. Despite that it is very good device
I like photos to be taken in 16:9 aspect ratio as you can view them on full screen of mobile and can see details of photos . Galaxy s5 had 16 mega pixel camera taking photos in 16:9 ratio why nexus 5x camera allow 16:9 aspect ratio only in 8 mega pixel while aspect ratio is 4.3 when you go for taking photo sin maximum resolution? Is this restriction from native camera or camera application? I also hate google camera app of nexus 5x which has very limited options and ugly design..even when you take photo in 16.9 ratio they have black bars restrict the views unlike samsung, sony camera app where you can see viewfinder on all screen?
can anyone suggest some camera app which are as good as sony/Samsung/htc built in camera app and also if its possible to take photo in maximum resolution in 16: 9 aspect ratio,,thanks
The 5X has a 4:3 sensor. In order to shoot 16:9 it must crop the image. If the sensor were 16:9, shooting 4:3 would crop the image and would be less megapixels. There is a good graphic floating around that displays this better, let me look for it...

When others popular camera phone can have hardware who take full resolution pics in aspect ratio of 16.9 why Google did not implemented this in their camera? photos in 4:3 aspect ratio dont look good on small screen of mobile..I never seen any cropping issues in previous devices

Yes it's hardware. An app isn't going to make any difference. Why did Google go with 4:3 ratio? I don't know. For reference my Galaxy S7 is also a 4:3.

But that's why you gotta zoom in "with your feet" so to speak especially with objects photos like that bike. The lens is a much wider angle.
For day time the S5 holds its own but low light and night there's no comparison, the 5X gets much more light and less grain especially with HDR+ on. Details in the sky are missing in the S5 pic which the 5X picked up.

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the ZTE Axon 7's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

Disappointed here, but I knew this was an issue going in. Not as bad as some phones I've had though, but should be better.
I wonder what the chances are that this can be fixed with software updates... as everyone says, the low-light pics are the only real camera problem
question are you doing full auto or using manual mode to capture this low light pics ? Have you tried other apps to see if it makes it any better low light pics ?
After some testing, i found that the lens is capable for decent low light shots if you use the manual mode...unfortunately seems that the auto mode has some problems..also i found that is better to take shots in 12mp mode instead of 20mp (even if you resize the 20mp to 12mp)...i attach some 100% crops from 12mp photos..the pillow shot is really low light and the moon shot is with zoom. Of course with minimum Photoshop work the photos can be really good for smartphone.
They should had stick with a smaller MP.
The reason low light sucks because the sensor size is too small for 20 MP.
There's a reason all Nexus 6P/5X and Samsung went to smaller MP to achieve better low light camera.
The opposite is true for iPhone. 6s takes worse low light picture than 6 because they went to higher MP without increasing sensor size.
Lowlight pic I snapped. Tried to expose for general scene which ended up blowing out the highlights on the sign (unrecoverable jpg). If you shoot with a steady hand and drop the shutter speed in favor of a lower iso it doesn't end up too mushy.
My first lowlights pic with this phone. ISO 100 3.5 sec. Super soft corners, I didn't expect it to be sharp but boy this lens module is soft.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using XDA Free mobile app
I've also found low-light is a lot better with manual mode, but sometimes we don't always have time to adjust. This brings hope for better software updates, however even when you go manual there's a decent amount of noise. Not sure the way around that but you do get brighter pictures.
What about using a different camera app?

The low light performance seems better to me than I was expecting from the reviews. I got mine yesterday and it had an update waiting as soon as I turned it on. Perhaps the newer build has better camera software? Let's face it, low light performance is mainly software these days. Probably with expensive licensing attached.

Exactly the same phone and same version.
As I have seen, ZTE has improved a lot the camera on this device, because from all the reviews I saw that were made last year, I was just disappointed and wondering if I should get this one or not. It seems ZTE is focusing a lot in camera performance and it's improving everything with the updates, and I'm pretty much happy with how their acting with the Axon 7.

Nougat was delayed until February, because of the new Chinese year, but it seems we will have an update this week.
Regarding the pictures, you can find them in the other threads where I have posted some, because this is only for low light. I tried to put as many pictures as I can because no one does, and the camera was also important for me. I was between this one and the Mate 9, and even when probably Mate 9 has a better camera, I have seen that is just slightly better but it lacks of some other important things to me like sound and display quality.
As for the camera, I don't think you need to worry at all as long as you are looking for a decent and nice camera. If you want absolutely the best one, then go with another phone because this is slightly below, but manual mode is really useful and can get really nice and sharp pictures as well.
For the price and the specs, I highly doubt you would get anything better.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Sent from my G8142 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
This phone is only good at well lighted condition but in low light it's horrendous even the video is very grainy. But i admire it with its capability in shooting moving objects no blur.

Bar Beach; Newcastle, NSW Australia. The XZP takes a darned nice photo.
the frustrating thing is, the hardware is capable of so much more, its really just the post processing that lets it down, a finer degree of control would be more useful or even allow RAW so we can do the editing later.
low light shots are a different matter, that's probably an optical limitation more then anything else. a CMOS / CCD is only ever as good as the optics the light passes through.
I'm very disappointed with the low detail of the camera.

Shot with the Sony xzp using auto mode and placing the phone on the table on a night out with friends . DXO MARK FAIL.
The new analyst dxomark david work for cupertino, is a apple fanboy and troll.
Dxomark was in this summer working in palo alto (,usa) cupertino base and designing new web, new protocols etc.

Oh wow the 3rd an 4th ones look great. I dont see how people can complain about the camera on any mobile device honestly. I came from an Xperia Z2 which had a phenomenal camera I was really impressed with it. The fact I could flash cyberian camera mod just made it even better. That gave me the ISO sensitivity equivalent to our XZP. The mod allowd for the Z3 to support 25600 ISO which I believe is higher than out XZP.
Just check out some of the photos I took on my Z2 here on my G+ page: https://plus.google.com/116272109758114321506
Completely satisfied with just that and I know the XZP will snap photos better. Lets just face it though, the XZP and ever other phone are just phones so youll never get anything like a DSLR but maybe something close. I think alot of people need to appreciate what phones are capeable of now. Especially those at dxomark. They also need to realise that they are just phones once only able to call.

Furthermore proof that dxomark was paid by Apple and Samsung, giving it an 83 and then you look at this? I would think that was taken on an expensive DSLR!

Amazing mate, the colors the blur the contrast, thumbs up!
Oreo update helps immensely in low light, my xzp seems to be using 2000iso now instead of cranking it to 3200 or 6400. More grain but less smearing. Burst looks to do a good job as well, although you cant use it in low light for shutter speed reasons.
Pictures arent perfect or anywhere near note 8 level, but they are more than useable now in low light.

Simply superb
---------- Post added at 02:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:36 AM ----------
As an ex owner of Nokia 1020 I am quite happy with the new SONY IMX400 sensor performance as I am with my older IMX300 sensor in Xperia Z5. The later still does superb pics in daytime with 23MP manual mode.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Xiaomi Mi A3 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
overall quality is excellent. it's flagship-like. the only nit picking I can find is an overall slight softness in the RAW files, and noticeable distortion around the corner/edges. However, it's not egregious and the overall especially low light performance is truly excellent if not the tops. Having that Sony IMX sensor really does wonders in low light, and color renditions are generally excellent as well. I can't wait to have a GCam port for A3. I used a redmi note7 port but the colors tend to oversaturate with rmn7's gcam app. Focus has been quick, though I think the software lacks a bit of polish when it comes to face recognition, something I hope they'll fix, or become fixed with a Gcam port.
The photo qualities are excellent. I can't complain, especially for the price.

Manual camera test at morning light at 5:58 AM,
Observings :
1) Photo got brightened up, by bumping bumping ISO, as the result photo is a bit grainy.
2) Phone screen displayed much punchier image by boosting Contrast and saturation , but the actual photo when uploaded to PC was quite natural.
3) Image size 2.3 MB, image taken through Stock cam. In good lighting conditions Stock cam is able give more control than gcam :cyclops:, gcam needs to be optimized for our A3..hope future gcams support be good
Manual Settings :
All AUTO, Focus - set to manual.

Could you share some DNG raw files?
Thanks!
Camera is amazing especially with that Ultrawide lens. You won't be disappointed at all
Awesome Camera quality for the price
Yeah, I'm using this phone for about 10 days now, and I must say the pictures from those cameras are very good. Even the selfie cam produces sharp photos with good colors. And the video from front cam is crispy. Didn't test video footage from back camera but I'm sure it'll be impressive too. I installed GCam & the picture quality got a solid upgrade (both main & front cameras), color processing, dynamic range everything got even better. Very satisfied
Hello ti all, But which gcam you use bon Xiaomi mi A3? How to know which is the best ? Mi A3 have API 2 open but not all the APK of gcam are ok right?

Did you find any Christian?
Please can anyone tell how much is the max exposure time (shutter speed) you can do with the rear and front camera?
And it does come with cam2api enabled by default?

It comes with cam2api. On Android 9 max for rear camera was 32 secs, at the moment on Android10 it's 0.5 secs (I just hope Xiaomi will fix this).
