Yup that dreaded red light is sudden death syndrome for your note 2,if you got warranty, take it back to the service center,
My warranty expired in feb... So is there cure for that SDS besides replacing the mother board ?
unhopefully no, there have been few discussions about theories to revert it but no one ended doing it.

Sorry to hear about your phone
But can you please tell me if you bought it before or after December 2012?
I want to confirm the claim that any phone manufactured after is sane

We purchased 2 n7100 in feb-2013 ...
In feb14; I sold my n7100 and bought n900 but my brother decided to keep it and last night I rcvd a call from a person who bought my n2 that his device also become dead after 2 months of use...
So that concludes that the sets purchased in feb 2013 or around comes with a faulty chip....
So if ur device is still working better to sell it immediately and buy something else.....
Update :
I take the device to service centre and the technician's charged me 40$ and after 45 minutes he returned the device with 4.1.2 installed
He refused to tell me the procedure but he didn't opened the device
All he did that he attached the phone with some device ( not JIG ) and that machine started the download mode on the device after that he attached the with pc and installed a rom...
Now...
Knox tripped
Status modified
But
Phone is fully functional
Does anyone have any idea ?

Just be thankful it was only $40 to fix the device instead of getting a new Note II
Install a custom ROM and enjoy:laugh:

No doubt I am thankful... but on the other side I am also curious that how he revived the sds effected set...
Was it rooted before the SDS?
As far as i'm aware samsung handsets come with a 2 year manufacturers warranty so If you bought if in feb 13 it should still be covered.
If it was rooted then charging to fix it is fine since that voids the warranty. But if it was a samsung repairs center and THEY tripped the knox counter...
Maybe i'v miss read something but if it was tottaly stock then i'd have pushed for a free repair/replace.

No it was pure stock and set comes with a one year warranty. ....
Huh...I'm sure that UK Samsung handsets come with a 2 year warranty. I'll check. If it's only 1 year then the KNOX counter can shut up and rooted 4.4.2 here I come! Lol

Ok I checked and we are both right.
Samsung phones from the EU have a 2 year warranty.
Something to do with EU regulations blah blah blah.
Sounds like a bit of a double standard to me.

Owner of international Note 2.
This morning I found my phone dead. I cannot start it either through power button or other combination of buttons. I took out the battery and back in. Through ADB no luck it doesn't even register that I plugged in the phone.
From time to time the first led on the right of the camera blinks (I think it's one of the sensors).
Can anyone through an idea what I can do to recover my phone?

My phone was rooted. I had MIUI on it. I was on the same ROM for 2 weeks, so it can't be the ROM. I cannot access the phone in any way possible
Unfortunately looks like its SDS ( sudden death syndrome ) . Was your phone on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 firmware? Its supposed that 4.1.2 has sds fix. Anyway if its sds so only option is to replace motherboard.

Agree with T511.. One of my frns S3 also had SDS n like he mentioned, motherboard had to be changed... if you have warranty n bill they will do it free.. doesnt matter if its rooted.. they cant check either..
It seems so. I've read for the last hour about it. What i don't know is: if i go to service, will they detect i was rooted and on custom rom? If so... can they refuse my service completely (After all SDS is not ROM related) or at least they can service me but with charges (which i presume it will be allot, but after all less then a new phone)?

Even they cant access it pal.. so they wont come to know.. just take it to service.. they will surely do it free if its under warranty..
but your data cant be revived.. hope you had a backup of contacts and msgs.. (5 mins'm waiting to post this .. as i've just started postin after a decent learning)
I had everything on my card. Titanium Backup few days ago....so i won't lose anything important. I just hope that the service will do it without arguing. Hi Folks,
Stock Note II N-7100 (Received from O2 in October 2012). Had, previously, moved from the O2 branded firmware to stock week I received the phone. No water damage or anything, not dropped, phone has lived in a rubber case since new.
No issues since (v occasional random reboot, monthly maybe?).
Today, mid call, I was dropped, and the phone what I thought was rebooting on me (Samsung Galaxy Note II [white, non animated] logo popped up), but it stayed up, rather than moving through the animated logo to the OS.
Vol-Up + Home + Power won't take me to recovery (Vol-Down + Home + Power will take me to an ODIN flash screen).
Connecting a charger brings up the battery, a 'spinner' appears in that for a second, then freezes, battery icon never changes to the animated charging logo.
Does this sound like SDS? or something else? Is there anything to be done at home to recover? Or is it a hardware fault in which case I'll start the process of tracking down a service centre & dig out an old handset in the mean time.
Thanks all,
Gavin.

Sounds like Half SDS for me(in half SDS you can go only into Download mode) With what version of android was your phone 4.1.2 or 4.1.1 this information will be good for us, sorry for your phone try reflashing it with stock rom with ODIN and if the process fail go to the service center with your warranty but check in Download mod if the Binary count is 0 and everything says Stock, not Custom. Good luck mate.

Thanks,
Can't recall the version, tho I think 4.1.1? Whatever was avail in October. The in-phone thingy kept reporting 'no update' so hadn't moved on to anything further.
Download screen says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
If that's any use (no sign of a counter).

They may remove your warranty for the System status its says custom, have you rooted the phone and from which country are you? You should have updated to 4.1.2 with odin the SDS is kinda fixed even thought there are still people with dead Note 2 with 4.1.2.

Hmm... believe I may have rooted right at the start for a reason related to the flashing a non-O2 ROM, though wasn't running a rooted phone since. I'm UK based.
Assuming ODIN will flash the phone (even if it won't, subsequently, work) would that reset the System status?

Sure I did that way back when.
dont worry about the "custom" part. it is known that SDS changes the status to custom so it doesn't matter at all. Send it to samsung and it should be repaired. then check if it have a new chip or an old one

Either way, if you're in the EU, rooting does not void warranty unless it can be proven that rooting is the direct cause of the problem.

As someone else said, try flashing a rom in odin before doing anything else. A stock system will reset the status to official. Triangle away is only needed to reset the count and usually doesn't reset the system status anyway.

Sadly, no go, due to lack of a PIT according to Odin.
Called Samsung, mail in with 2 week turn around, or walk in and should have it back in 2 days? Sound about right.
There's a Service Centre 10 mins from my office, so I shall walk it in there, but (rather annoyingly), am on a training course until Friday so I won't get along till then. Excellent timing! Still, walk in ought still be quicker than sending it away.
In the mean time, I have hauled out an old SE Arc S running ICS for the time being. Feels painfully slow & restricted (low memory) compared to the Note2!
Thanks for all your help guys.
So...
Walked the phone into the service centre (CRC - http://www.crclondon.co.uk/repairs/samsungrepairs) on Monday, who told me they'd need to send it up to their Level 3 centre, which would likely be a 7-10 day turn around.
Took a call from them today, claiming that as the phone had been rooted, they couldn't do it under warranty, and it would cost £120 to repair. I rather firmly mentioned the aforementioned EU regulation which, I understood, meant that nevertheless, the repair, unless caused by the root, ought still be covered under warranty. The chap was completely intractable, refused to pass me to a supervisor of any sort for further discussion, so I've told him to have it returned to their office and I would collect ASAP and deal with Samsung directly where I hoped to have a more satisfactory discussion.
Seems like it's likely to be back with them on Friday - I will probably collect on Monday and get it dispatched same day.
Wish I hadn't bothered waiting for the walk in centre now. The Sony Arc S I'm currently using is frustratingly slow by comparison with what I've become used to!
I think you were being too honest.
I got my note2 motherboard replaced last month. and since they coundnt tell whether i had rooted or not and samsung havent officially made any announcement about sds, i told them what i found on the net that the system status shown customs because the nand memory was corrupt and it couldnt read the product name nor system partition thereore it defaulted the system status to be custom.
As a further update, Samsung central help group pretty awful to deal with, and not resulting in a satisfactory resolution.
Was eventually promised a call back, finally got an email 4 days later basically telling me 'whatever our 3rd party service centre told you we will stand by, if you collect & send to us, we'll lookup their response and use that in communication with you..' 'If you want to challenge their assertion, you'll need to source a report from an independent assessor.'
So, from all this - Ultimately, I need the phone back in a reasonable timeframe, so I've asked the 3rd party service centre to effect the repair, and I'll pay their £120 bill. I have also told them that I want whatever components they replace (I'm told likely motherboard), and copies of their full engineers report containing details of the fault found, diagnosis of cause, and resolution steps - returned to me along with the device so that I retain any evidence I require for further discussions (getting them to agree to this was an awful task, as they initially quoted various recycling regulations).
Once it's back in hand, I'll then revert to Samsung again, and work my way up through the escalation queue.
Next phone, I suspect, won't be a Samsung device. Maybe Nexus.
Fun fun fun...

Dear all,
I am in deep trouble , my phone was working fine yesterday night but some how today in the morning when I was trying to switch it on the phone wont respond no startup logo nothing I tried to remove the battery/ sim/ memory card but still nothing happening I tried to plug the phone to laptop but it is not responding even I connected my phone with the charger no signs is it really charging or not, but still I tried to charge the phone for atleast 7-8 hours , only thing which I am getting is the red identification light keeps blinking when I try to switch on the phone , otherwise phone seems to be completely dead.
I am rooted & I have jelly bean 4.1.1, any help in this regard will be appreciated ... because I already have void the warranty by rooting although I have set the binary counter to zero through triangle away app.
thank you very much.
I think that your phone have SDS. But in your case i would check battery and charger - if that wont help just send it to warranty (if this is SDS its hard to check that you have root

Dear member, thanks for the advise but it is not possible as my phone is not detectable by PC, so flashing is not possible until you tell me some other way.
If download mode not work in my opinion there is no way to bring it to life at home. Only replace motherboard can help.
Yes the same bug is in SGS3 (same eMMC chip on board). This is happening on 16 GB variant of sgs3 and note2. To avoid this next time use android 4.1.2 (Samsung propably fix this, - risk of SDS on newest roms are lower).
Try to check voltage on battery.

Have you ever flashed it before.. if not then you can claim warranty
If you have flashed it once or more the counter will raise and samsung might be a b*tch about it and charge you for it (like they did with me)
The thing you should not do at all if its the SDS is flash it because it will not write NAND and will always fail then

My note is about 6 months old and rooted since I got it. Was using it yesterday at work. A couple house later at home when I pulled it out it was dead.
doesnt boot on power button press
doesnt react to "vol+/menue/power"
doesnt react to "vol-/menue/power"
nothing detected when connecting to the laptop
coneccting to the charger does absolutely nothing
The only sign of life is a red led that weakly blinks every 7-8 seconds.
Are there any options other than taking it in to the service center?
Thanks for any help!

Try starting the phone with some other battery. It might be due to battery problem.
Incase it doesn't change anything, then the only way is to send it to service center.
Its SDS . Sudden Death Syndrome . Mostly all phones on 4.1.1 affected this. On 4.1.2 its fixed. You might be on 4.1.1. Only solution - Its motherboard should be replaced.

Wish I could be certain but I believe 4.1.1 How can I find out now that it is dead???
In any case the service center just advised that they will replace the motherboard under warranty.
Got my note back with the explanation that the motherboard was replaced.
Only problem is that its now back on the Saudi Arabian ROM and will have to go through the whole flashing and rooting and................. but at least its alive even though Oding doesnt reconize it in download mode so will have some research to do.
Mine just got the similar symptom yesterday, but it even doesn't have weekly led blinking.

My Note 2 also was succumubed to the same symptoms as your's and it's mother board also got replaced.I checked it then eMMC brick apk and it shows insane chip. The only thing we have to do now is to take precaution to be in the latest firm ware and recovery which is SDS patched.Luckily the latest stock firm wares and kernels are SDS patched.
yes checked the returned note and still have the insane chip and 4.1.1
but I have another bigger problem. the returned note with the new motherboard is not detected by Odin in download mode. I intended to flash a non Arabic pre-rooted ROM but no luck. for a week now researching to find a solution but have not managed it yet.
Hello. I got my note2 a few weeks back and now I'm noticing that the screen has two Black lines when late in the night and lighting is low. It's really annoying so I called Samsung Greece and they told me that If I went there they would fix it for me in about an hour depending on if they have the needed parts. (Does Samsung check for custom ROMs and stuff like that when sending a phone to service? Because if they don't i won't have to backup and restore and all that)So, how can I go completely back to stock 4.1.2 with stock bootloader and how can I restore all my apps and ROM when they return my phone? How can i reset the flash counter and basically remove anything that may disable my warranty?
I'm running
*DN3 4.3 3.2 ROM
*MJ5 BL
*TWRP 2.3.6.1
If you need any more info tell me. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have bought your device less then 6 months ago then you are under legal warranty which guarantees the repair of hardware issues if you are not responsible for that issue, no matter if you are rooted or run a custom rom. If you don't believe me, ask a lawyer nearby! (Afaik only in the European Union!)
Otherwise you can restore by flashing firmware but pay attention that you don't flash the BL, reset counter with "triangle away" buyable in the playstore and unroot the device. Good luck!

@Androidwizzard thanks a lot for your reply. I bought this phone no more than 1 month. I'm from Greece. So I can just take my phone there(service) and not worry about being rooted and running a custom ROM at all? Because if that's the case that's some great news. And no I'm not responsible for the issue, I heard this is a common problem with Super amoled screens but can't really remember how the problem is called. Anyway thanks a lot and waiting for your reply patiently.

You have the right to get it repaired either by your trader or by samsung, just ask a pal, who studies or has studied law in your country. You can also use google to find it. 1. For the black lines- a friend of mine told me that all screens in samsung phone in galaxy series have some lines in low light in dark or we see then when putting keypad lock..
2. if ur phone is in warrenty that is within 1 yr..then you have to flash the stock rom and remove the number of times you rooted ur phone..then install triangle away..you will surely get to something..

You are talking about your country, but we are in Europe, where law is different and we need no warranty from Samsung. Within six months the trader has to repair hidden hardware issues, no matter how many times a rom is flashed or knox flag has turned to x1. In English both is called warranty and we are talking about warranty origin in European law. A customer secure regulation.

You can restore to original but it is not necessary to get the repair.
