I've searched and read about this SDS thing ,and i think my phone just had one :crying:
basically it was lying on the table for a few minutes , then i picked it up and tried to start the screen, but nothing happens !
battery removed , charging , sim/sdcard removed ,recovery/download mode didtn show up neither , ALL DID NOT WORK !!!!
its just stuck and wont start up. and it shows that blinking red light near proximity sensor.....
it was perfectly fine a few moments ago but now its just dead.. i am non rooted on stock 4.1.1.
any suggestions please, really in need of the community help now ? :crying:
i've read that in 4.1.2 they fixed it , so is there a way to flash thru Odin while its dead already??
thx
If it IS an SDS, then it's dead and gone. No way to recover. You'll have to send it back to Samsung and they're replace the motherboard. Take your SD card out before you send it.
How do i know it is an SDS ? is there any other specific symptoms that i missed out ?
so far ,nothing worked trying to revive it , black screen with that flashing red (proximity sensor) when i press power or plug it in :crying: .
Did you root it? If not, you can send it back to Samsung for repairs.
Which custom ROM / Kernel were u using before it died ?
Did the kernel has fix for SDS ? like Perseus kernel ?
The recovery your using has SDS fix too ? tell us these details with versions included.

Yup, that's an SDS alright. All of them have the same symptom once dead. Time to call Sammy.

i mean this SDS warning was all over the place, im surprised you werent aware that it was highly recommended you upgrade to 4.2.1 or above to avoid this very issue since you seem like an active xda participant.

I'm afraid I am on the same boat as you and bad news is they will boot it in download mode and find that the firmware will read 'custom' which means they think you might have rooted the phone and won't repair it free of charge. I am currently looking for ways to deal with them. My case happened in Hong Kong though.....Good Luck to you.

yeah i am an active participant. but unfortunately, for the past 3 months i was off xda and didnt read or check anything , only if i knew , i truly regret it. bcos updating it wont even take 5 minutes....
the problem is , i made 5 other friends of mine buy Notes 2 !!! now im too scared to tell them all about this ,
very frustrated from Samsung and their stupid software department , cant believe the user have to look after his device bcos they cant get it right. had my Note 1 on the bricking risk due to that emmc bug as well but i took care of it thanks to xda.

how will they find it on "custom"? i've never rooted the device , never felt the need for it, and did that on purpose to keep the warranty.

I think instead of blaming each other for not updating and what not we should be pointing fingers at samsung for their ignorance in this matter. The least you'd expect from them is their acknowledgement of this serious flaw and compensate the customers by offering recalls and updating the phones at the nearest service centers coz not everyone has time or knowledge to do updates and not to mention this is a mandatory update. So many people get turned away from the service center simply because their phones were rooted which has absolutely nothing to do with the cause of SDS to top it up they're still selling the phones off with the old 4.1.1 rom in most places. Just frustrating. Good luck with you getting your issue resolved.

Update :
i got the phone back today from the service center :victory:  , they repaired it for almost 300$ , fortunately it went under warranty, so i payed nothing (ive never rooted).
they replaced the chip or the motherboard , i dunno what exactly, but still with the emmc checker app i still have that buggy chip !!!!!
i guess im on the safe side now since samsung pushed DMB2 update here in switzerland (4.1.2.) and it came already installed on my repaired phone. however i cant explain the relief (and frustration at Samsung continuous stupidity with high-end devices), since ive been really struggling without my Note 2 (used a cool but very slow nexus one).
thx for the help guys , cheers.
hey
my phone has been acting weird for a while now.
the phone crashes a lot, some times it freezes while scrolling, some times it shuts down, some times it restarts on its own....
i tried to root the phone and flashed it with wanam, but it didn't stop crashing, then i flashed with omega v12, but the problem still continued...
shall i rule out that this might be a software issue?
what hardware part might be causing such behavior

That doesn't sound good...
IMO it's most likely a hardware issue.
It's hard to say which part is causing this. Maybe the storage?
I hope this aren't SDS symptoms.
That would mean that SDS would be still possible with 4.1.2

AFAIK if you had the SDS symptoms before the update, it is possible that you experience SDS after the 4.1.2 update.
I would backup all data, restore stock kernel/rom, unroot and return the phone for warranty.

use eMMC Brickbug to check using the memory test. In theory if it fails it is affected by SDS and your phone will die someday. If not it could be another problem. But as I said it is just "in theory", nothing 100% sure.

As I've said, lots of these crashing are due toto conflicting setting...

so, i got my phone back from the shop.( it is not the official Samsung retailer, just the shop that sold me the phone).
the guys said that they re-installed software and tried several kernels.
after a week of trials of reinstalling with no success, the guy called and said the phone is ready and working fine.
i got the phone and it worked fine for 5 min, then started acting crazy again.
i decided to root to see if i could get it going,
after several trials of rooting and un-rooting, and finally out of frustration, i knocked on the phone's back where the Mother board is located and re-rooted the phone.
suddenly the phone worked without freezing for the 5 days so far....
i am still monitoring the phone, but it seems that banging on the mother board had an effect on it (as weird and silly as it might seem)
i know that my phone fell a lot and that my son dropped it like a zillion times before it went acting crazy.....
i thought maybe something moved inside, and well, it seems i was correct (so far at least)...

Do you fancy hitting mine too?
Ive had this issue the past month, I have the insane chip aswell. Sent it off to Samsung as one day, it literally just made the screen go funny (multi colours, as if you pulled a cartridge out of the n64 or a Gameboy).
Samsung then took my warranty off, as they deemed it down to a small crack in my top right glass bit, which doesn't affect the phones use at all, as it was there for 3 months. They attempted to charge me £290 for a replacement logic board, and a new glass panel for the front, whish I think isn't fair as it wasn't the screen crack that caused the SDS on my phone.
Got mine back today, and the first thing I did was download all of the tools necessary to flash the ROM, only to find that I get a FAIL message in Odin, due to a missing PIT partition or something.
I now own a fancy paperweight, as I can only put this all down to a properly franked memory chip.
So I put my phone on charge and went to sleep, the next morning the phone's battery lamp shined green as usual when the phone was fully charged. Only it had turned itself off and it wouldn't start it again.
I haven't contacted my provider yet because i am unsure whether the warranty will cover it since I rooted it the day before, have not installed anything yet though.
I have tried removing the battery for a couple of hours without any result, I have also tried different combinations of holding down buttons without any result either.
Can it be as simple as the battery broke? How can i check if that is the case without any other battery or voltmeter etc?
Has anyone else had this problem?
I am running 4.1.2 on my 7105, flashed from ODIN about a month ago.
Please provide some details to answer you better
Do you able to put device in download mode? What you can read in download mode rt upper corner?

No i am not able to get into download mode since absolutely nothing happens when i press any button, just like as if there was no battery in the phone.
I used CF-Auto-Root-t0lte-gtn7105 to root but I don't think that this is the source of the problem since the phone died two days after i rooted.
As I said I am using the 4.1.2 official version which i flashed using odin, that was over like 2-3 months ago so I dont remember exactly which one I used but I believe it was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027586

Firmware you have linked which you believe to flashed is doubtfully patched for sds.
On N7100 same released in dec 12 and within few days it was withheld, may be it was not properly patched. Later release in 2013 are sds patched.
Do you remember it was somewhat leggy/freezing before this happened?
Though symptoms mimics sds, have you tried to reboot to recovery?

No freezes or anything but the day before i rooted i remember it restarted itself whilst in my pocket, was sitting still so don't think i accidentally pressed the off button, but can't know for sure.
Cant enter recovery or anything since absolutely nothing happens when i hold down up/home/power, neither if I hold down/home/power or any other combination. Absolutely no response from the phone, just as there was no battery in the phone but i can assure you that there is. Nothing happens when I connect the charger either. No lights no nothing!
If possible try to manage for different battery to just confirm it is not battery issue, and remove battery from device for a day meanwhile and try to boot after that, if no result then it's likely sds and should consult service station.

exactly the same **** happened to me too i don't know what happened, i didn't root it or did anything to it. it just randomly turned itself off and didn't start up again. then suddenly it happened to load the battery again and i was able to boot it, but here the ****ed up part came... it showed me the samsung startup logo and everything but then weird green vertical stripes(like the matrix) appeared and nothing more happened. few reboots after, same problem as in the beginning, it's not starting up again. help me please
Dear all,
I am in deep trouble , my phone was working fine yesterday night but some how today in the morning when I was trying to switch it on the phone wont respond no startup logo nothing I tried to remove the battery/ sim/ memory card but still nothing happening I tried to plug the phone to laptop but it is not responding even I connected my phone with the charger no signs is it really charging or not, but still I tried to charge the phone for atleast 7-8 hours , only thing which I am getting is the red identification light keeps blinking when I try to switch on the phone , otherwise phone seems to be completely dead.
I am rooted & I have jelly bean 4.1.1, any help in this regard will be appreciated ... because I already have void the warranty by rooting although I have set the binary counter to zero through triangle away app.
thank you very much.

thanks for the reply, I have tried 3-4 different chargers but no work for my phone for battery I have to check it, I heard that same crazy stuff were happening with SG-S3 but I is not the case with note 2, SDS means they have to replace some hardware components will it going to effect my data in phone also.

Dear member, thanks for the advise but it is not possible as my phone is not detectable by PC, so flashing is not possible until you tell me some other way.
If download mode not work in my opinion there is no way to bring it to life at home. Only replace motherboard can help.
Yes the same bug is in SGS3 (same eMMC chip on board). This is happening on 16 GB variant of sgs3 and note2. To avoid this next time use android 4.1.2 (Samsung propably fix this, - risk of SDS on newest roms are lower).
Try to check voltage on battery.

Have you ever flashed it before.. if not then you can claim warranty
If you have flashed it once or more the counter will raise and samsung might be a b*tch about it and charge you for it (like they did with me)
The thing you should not do at all if its the SDS is flash it because it will not write NAND and will always fail then

doesnt boot on power button press
doesnt react to "vol+/menue/power"
doesnt react to "vol-/menue/power"
nothing detected when connecting to the laptop
coneccting to the charger does absolutely nothing
The only sign of life is a red led that weakly blinks every 7-8 seconds.
Are there any options other than taking it in to the service center?
Thanks for any help!

Try starting the phone with some other battery. It might be due to battery problem.
Incase it doesn't change anything, then the only way is to send it to service center.
Its SDS . Sudden Death Syndrome . Mostly all phones on 4.1.1 affected this. On 4.1.2 its fixed. You might be on 4.1.1. Only solution - Its motherboard should be replaced.

Wish I could be certain but I believe 4.1.1 How can I find out now that it is dead???
In any case the service center just advised that they will replace the motherboard under warranty.
Got my note back with the explanation that the motherboard was replaced.
Only problem is that its now back on the Saudi Arabian ROM and will have to go through the whole flashing and rooting and................. but at least its alive even though Oding doesnt reconize it in download mode so will have some research to do.
Mine just got the similar symptom yesterday, but it even doesn't have weekly led blinking.

My Note 2 also was succumubed to the same symptoms as your's and it's mother board also got replaced.I checked it then eMMC brick apk and it shows insane chip. The only thing we have to do now is to take precaution to be in the latest firm ware and recovery which is SDS patched.Luckily the latest stock firm wares and kernels are SDS patched.
yes checked the returned note and still have the insane chip and 4.1.1
but I have another bigger problem. the returned note with the new motherboard is not detected by Odin in download mode. I intended to flash a non Arabic pre-rooted ROM but no luck. for a week now researching to find a solution but have not managed it yet.
