Well I would not care if I didn't have root. that's kinda what I'm trying to do; unroot. But keeping root would be nice
What would the difference between a European stock rom and a Bell Canada stock rom? I look forward to the stock rom. Thanks

I don't think so. I flash it and I turn my device back on and it's the same. And I supposed to keep all the files laying out on the desktop? And I'm supposed to wipe all my data right?

In order to avoid potential Force crashes amongst other issues it's generally advised to wipe via clockworkmod.
Well for a proper link to it, we'll need to know more like is your Wildfire S GSM or CDMA?

I managed to recover it but I not longer have root . And a lot of things are different from the Bell Stock rom. So I'm doing something else now. thanks though
Q
If you have lost root, there is a tutorial very easy to follow on how root your phone just look in the android development section
Flash "root.zip" located in this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275 This should hopefully resolve your issue of losing root.
Actually i see no differences between EU and others other than the languages ... and why not flashing any RUU ?

Thanks. I rooted my phone again. The rom isn't the same as the stock bell one, but I guess it's good enough. My Wildfire S is VERY slow though. I have tried many things to make it faster

E: Invalid command argument
I folllowed the same steps but its again and again booting into recovery!
its booting into recovery even if i install other rom from sd card!
tried it with and without sd card! still same result
hope you help me out with this!

I bought myself a Nexus 4.
Now i'm trying to move everything from my current Desire HD.
Data like pics , music and so i'll just do manually trough pc , contacts i exported to SD and then imported them in Google , apps go trough play store and for text i'll use an sms backup app.
The problem is app data and settings.
There are some backup apps that can do it but they either require root or abdroid 4.0 and up.
My DHD is stock and unrooted , so my question , is there another option , way around it , very easy root method or whatever lets me backup the app data and settings ?
You need root and titanium backup.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
Is there an easy way to root ? (doesn't need to be permanent i guess)
If you tell us which version of android you have we can advise you better...
Before rooting, Maybe you could try using "js backup" it's supposed to be able to backup without root, but, I've never not been rooted while using it, so can't be sure how good it is.

Yeah , my bad

Came across Carbon App Sync and Backup while googling solutions.
It is the predecessor of Helium and it should work for GB to (helium requires 4.0 or up).
Found the apk for it but can't open it on my phone , it says " prblom with pasing the package " , what does that mean ?

I use my backup pro. Its way simpler than titanium backup, and there is a free version but I paid for the pro. My backup will nack everything up for you but if your not rooted then it isnt able to access the app data so cant back it up. I dont think you will be able to find a solution without rooting. When I rooted I used the AAHK which is no longer available on xda as the dev fell fell out of love with them but can be found through google.

So I've seen the mods for the Vzw M8 and the intl M7, but cannot find a clear answer as to whether these will work on a vzw M7.. Im on 4.4.2 Sense6 s-off bootloader unlocked and rooted, stock rom, anybody know how to get EPS mode? Already enabled normal power saver, but dying to get EPS

You can download NuSense and locate HTCExtremePowerSaver.apk in /system/priv-app and just push to your priv-app and should have it.
R u saying to install the rom to get it or just somehow pull the apk from it and put it in priv-app? Basically most custom ROMs have it.
My Bonestock ROM has it as well..
If you don't want to run a custom ROM, I could try and make you a .zip to get it working on your current set-up.

It's an apk that has to be pushed to your system priv-app folder. Have root explorer or even terminal can move it if you know the commands.

When it is disabled, does the update go away, or is it still on my G3 waiting to be installed?

Hi,
I would like to use a custom ROM on my HTC One M8 (e.g. ARHD) but I would like to unroot it after installing the custom ROM so that I can use my banking apps.
Is this possible?
Thanks.
Should work, try it and see (backup ROM first obviously)
I believe CyanogenMod's CM11 and CM12 builds both have switches in their developer options to enable/disable root access. I'm not sure how your apps are detecting root, but that might work for you.
It is not possible.

Agreed:thumbup:
You don't need root to install a custom ROM or even run a custom ROM on your device. Obviously you won't be able to use any apps that require root, but the ROM in and of itself will still function.

I've been rooted and running custom ROMs for a few years, and I've never had any problems with using banking apps.
Some apps detect root, others don't care. I bank with NatWest and it's fine but apparently Barclays won't work. Same with other apps like Sky Go (live TV), even if you 'hide' root access it finds it in the kernel and won't run
Barclay's app requires the phone to be unrooted and I can't seem to live without it...
Is there instructions on how to install a ROM without root? All instructions online say root needs to be done.
Thanks!
I'm also wondering about this. I need to install a corporate app that needs a minimum of android 4 on my Samsung i9000. The last stock rom for i9000 was 2.3.6 so I need a custom rom. At he same time it also checks if the phone is rooted each time the app runs.
I've read something about deleting some files:
/system/bin/busybox,
/system/xbin/busybox,
/system/bin/su,
/system/xbin/su,
/system/app/superuser
Has anyone tested this?
Now in this forum thread I am reading about apps being able to detect root in the kernel of the phone. Does anyone out there have a way to unroot a custom rom??

This forum section is specific to the HTC M8, so any help you get from the users here maybe of limited help. Advice may not work on your device, or even harm it.
Did you try to hide root (various apps to do this)? Although that may be circumventing the security reason why your workplace is checking for root in the first place.
