Hi. Is it possible to install official T-mobile G2 RUU software on HTC Desire Z?
So long as radio secure flags are removed (s-off) then yes, but I can't think of a great reason to do so
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I love AOSP. So I can download RUU eg. from here and simply run the installer?
Yes but that would leave with a shipped bootloader, stock recovery and a non rooted ROM. Maybe a worse radio too. Why not just flash a stock rooted ROM?
I can simply root it again by eg UnlockRoot program. but I want to have clear software, I dont like custom roms. And also I cant find newest 2.16.531.6 ziped rom. I prefer to install this RUU.
...but first I have to fix my phone. I dont know why, but I cant run anu RUU installer (even this for DZ). when I click "update" button, it is waiting for bootloader, and after this there is a comunicat that phone is unpluged. I wonder I have to do this with ADB
But thanks for your answer this is what I wanted to know
Sort of, if using some unlock program for root I have to imagine your not s-off and if you are its fake s-off which if you were to run the RUU you may brick your device. The only method you should use to root your phone is exploit via gfree.
As for custom ROMs, that's your choice but I will say there are ROMs that are more aosp than stock T-Mobile as all the g2 stock isn't pure aosp. Buy of course do as you will.
As for your RUU issues, it won't have anything to do with adb as they are to be flashed through fastboot, but again be careful as what you want to do is possible but if you don't meet the prerequisites you will have a brick
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ok, you are right. I'll flash some another aosp.
But now, this RUU issue.
So, from the beginning:
I changed the hboot to g2 one with this PC10IMG. Just flash by bootloader. Then I flashed the PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_2.15.531.3_Radio_12.52.60.25U_26.08.04.30_M3.zip. also by bootloader. Then found out that I cannot use RUUs installer because the phone dont wont to reebot into bootloader. So i change hboot to dz one with this PC10IMG. Now my hboot version is 0.84.2000 (PC1011000).
I installed some custom rom (virtuous sense 2.0.0).
I am running RUU software (RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.3_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_224299_signed.exe).
returning to the bootloader - is ok, phone is reebooting. But next is 'waiting for bootloader' and the Error, that the phone is unplugged.
On the phone screen for a while was the Black screen with Gray HTC logo, but for the moment there is white screen (looks like bootloader) with hboot version, Radio version, etc,
and at the end is: RUU
I hope you understand me.
What shoud I do? mayby the hboot version is incorect?
edit
I also cannot install 1.34.405.5_PC10IMG.zip by bootloader now. The files are loading, and then.. is nothing. There is no quastion for Update( vol up) or No (vol down)
edit2
Uff, the problem is solved. I hadn't installed bootloader drivers and radio was very old, so I had to update it. Thanks for your help, demkantor
No problem, I would advice to look through this thread a bit as well

As stated, like a dummy i used the htc unlock method and really want to correct my mistake. i lost my backup of my stock rom so everytime i relock all i get is the fastboot screen. tried flashing the stock ruu file and i get "main version is newer" or something like that. Could it be the file?
I would just flash to a stock based ROM, and try that.
Im running andybonestock at the moment but i want to relock and unroot, remove Superuser etc.

Use the 2.3.4->2.3.3 downgrade method to reset your hboot version to .97 and then run Revolutionary.
Edit: Or, try flashing a stock recovery .img through an unlocked hboot using fastboot and then reset your data inside the android os. Then try relocking your bootloader. I would do this first. Then do the above.
Sounds like I need to track down a recovery image. I tried downgrading with the bootloader locked and unlocked and got nowhere

Got the RUU to work. Locked the bootloader, left it on the fastboot screen. Plugged it in and let it work its magic. No problems at all.

Hi, i am wondering about changing to a stock rom on my brothers HTC desire.
I do not need root or custom rom on this phone right now, but maybe in the future.
It is an ICS custom rom on it today and HBOOT 0.93. With root and maybe S-OFF.
I am a little afriad to utdate/downgrade to stock rom because i have read several places that if the HBOOT updates to newer than 0.93 i will not be able to root the phone later.
But i read this was via OTA, I will be using HTC Sync for the update.
This will be my phone number 2 and i just want everything to work, newer rom functions is not that important.
I hope anyone will give me some help, becase this phone is WAY more difficult to root and customize than my SGS.
Thanks i advance

Don't worry, every hboot can be hacked. Only 1.03 is a little dodgy, but running an official update will give you at most 1.02 hboot that's easy to handle with revolutionary.

Thats nice to hear
I wonder if i perhaps should go for the pre rooted stock rom from this forum instead.
It should work just as nice as the stock HTC sync rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Also i am a little unsure about how important radio is.
I have a different radio on it today than the rom required.
A have read the noob proof guide but i didnt undersdtand how to flash the radio, can it be done in clockworkmod recovery?
On om my SGS all this can be done in either odin or clockworkmod, so i wonder if this can be done in CWM for the desire too, because it is already rooted and HBOOT'ed?
Many thanks.
radio can be flashed through CWM recovery but only v2.5.0.7 or older. best to flash it via fastboot commands. click adb & fastboot in my sig for a guide
heres a link for

HEEELP!
I may have a big problem.
I found out that the phone was S-ON and followed the Noob proof guide using alpharev to S-OFF it.
The 2 first steps went fine but step number 3 will not start
On the computer i just says, "waiting for flashing to complete".
But it never starts on the phone.
It also say on the computer that if i turn of the phone now it will be bricked, i dont wanna brick it.
What should i do????!?
****. I waited for an hour like the noob proof guide said i should and the i pulled the plug.
But now my phone will not boot into android. Just goes straight to fastboot mode.
What are my choices now?
Run 2.3 ruu and then all from start.

2.3 RUU via HTC sync or via fastboot? Or via the lin from your signature?
Sorry for being noobish, i just havent gotten the hang of this HTC way of doing it yet
In my signature is only a way how to obtain it. When you download it, it's .exe file packed in zip archive. Unpack it and run from yout PC. Make sure you have HTC sync installed on your PC prior running ruu.

HI ANDROID DEVELOPERS
I have got a "little" problem with my desire HD. So Yesterday I unlocked bootloader at htc dev page, later I uploaded CWM, then I uploated ANDORID REVOLUTION HD ROM.
When I have done it I found out I don't have a ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF. How can I get ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF now? AR HD is working but wifi has an error. Please tell me how I can repair my beloved htc.
Make sure the battery cover is on properly.
What error are you getting?
Sent from a dream.
Batery cover is ok, wifi only "error" when I turn it on.
edit, I don't know what happend but wifi is working so my last question is How can I do ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF?
Check my signature. You got all the info you need to start. Make sure to check post#7 as well.
Sent from a dream.
If I have unlocked bootloader on htcdev I also can use aahk?
No. Relock the bootloader and then run AAHK. You don't *have* to do that to flash ROMs, though it makes the process a lot easier. You can still flash ROMs right now. Go to the post Teichopsia said and read about the difference between htcdev unlock and AAHK unlock.

Thanks for answers. I think this is last question, how can I lock bootloader ? Fastboot can do it?
Before locking I should upload stock rom and stock kernel? If yes where I can download best or maybe I can do it at android revolution?

To relock the bootloader, boot in fastboot, open a cmd as admin and then type:
fastboot oem lock
That's it. You should read relocked in hboot after rebooting bootloader.
Make sure that you reboot bootloader before checking success.

You don't have to run the Hack option again...what for? you are already running a custom rom. What you have to do, is to choose the o) option of the Hack Kit and then to flash the ENG S-OFF...
Radio S-OFF will only be possible reverting to stock as you say....that is pretty clear in the manual.
To sum up I must:
1Lock bootloader "fastboot oem lock" on andorid revolution
2Use aahk press "o" and flash the ENG S-OFF
3Unlock bootloader the same like on htc dev?
4flash orginal rom and kernel, later do Radio S-OFF
?
UMT need locked bootloader?

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.
I was helping out a friend to flash a custom rom , to update his device to a newer version , as a former LG optimus 3d owner i figured nothing can be more problematic , so we went on to unlock the device with easyunlocker tool , then flashed the latest twrp recovery from fastboot. We first tried Legacycarbon , it was stuck in a bootloop with htc logo without the quietly brilliant bit. Then we tried pac-man 4.2.2 bootloop again , lastly we tried cyanogenmod 10.1 again bootloop... First i thought maybe it's the recovery , i flashed the latest clockwork non-touch and flashed all these roms , still bootloop... My friend accidentally wiped the backup we made of the stock rom. Now the device is soft bricked. I've heard people talk about 4ext recovery , so i thought maybe i should give it a try but as it turns out , the only way to install it is with the play store app. As the device is soft bricked i need a fastboot image.
So my question is , what could be the problem ?
If you think the the problem is with the recovery can you export your recovery partition so i can use it through fastboot?

Yeah , i left that out. As a nexus owner i have a habit of wiping my system , data , cache and dalvik-cache partitions. I've managed to get a recovery backup from another friend who owns the same device , and flashed it to the phone , now it's working.
Although i'm very curious as to why it gets stuck in a bootloop...
I think it may be because of the partition size difference , then the ROMs that i downloaded didn't contain partition images , still it was through teamviewer , i couldn't really extract his partition table to take a look at it , i'll do that when i get my hands on the device.

Try flashing a RUU. If that is not working and you are still on a bootloop then it might be a motherboard issue.

He should be able to unlock with HTCDev and root, or use the AAHK2 to s-off and root. I'm not sure if OP had already unlocked the bootloader, but there's a chance that the ruu won't update it (newer/same version as included in the ruu) meaning he'd keep his BL unlock
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
from what i've read here on the forum, and if my understanding is correct, ruu are like "original" roms. files that we don't flash from recovry.
it's a différent method and in the end we obtain a stock phone with an "untouched" os like an original one.
if it is the case then you should install a ruu with android 2.3.5 on it, as if you update up to a ruu with android 2.3.7, again from what i've read, it won't be possible to root back the phone then.
i might be wrong but just thought i'll point it out to you so you can research on that.
it's possible that by now there is a way, but i havn't read or heard about it.

Well you are definitely wrong. All versions are rootable. Ruu stands for remote update utility and it is the stock firmware of the device.
You cannot flash a ruu in recovery but have to do it in fastboot. From there you can unlock the bootloader and root.

I think I might've completely screwed up what I was trying to say or you may have misunderstood what I was saying. So I'm just going to refer back to what I was trying to explain in context of an older HTC device (Wildfire, in this case).
In some scenarios with the Wildfire, we were able to run an RUU and successfully roll back to a stock rom whilst retaining a S-OFF bootloader (Meaning the ability to use fastboot to flash a recovery and root using a su zip was possible). I think I was trying to say this may be possible/may occur with the DHD. Meaning that OP would just have to use fastboot to flash a recovery and an appropriate superuser zip to get root, and therefore any version would be rootable (even if he rolled back). However at this point I'm not sure if the DHD RUU's overwrite the hboot/bootloader. (I've never really felt like flashing one and I don't feel like getting another sim unlock code at this point)

No problem man, but Hboot and S-OFF are not the same. All RUU's have partitions in them including bootloader, however nand partition is not reverted to S-ON by flashing an stock rom, unless you specifically do that. There is no risk to lose the S-OFF state by flashing a RUU.

Well you are definitely wrong. All versions are rootable. Ruu stands for remote update utility and it is the stock firmware of the device.
You cannot flash a ruu in recovery but have to do it in fastboot. From there you can unlock the bootloader and root.

I stand corrected Monsieur :highfive:
??
i dont now .......:cyclops:
I didn't see mention of s-off in your question. If you are not s-off, you have to extract the rom's boot.IMG and fastboot flash it after rom installation.

You can install with RUU, then u can downgrade, root, s-off it with AAHK2. So it's possible to root it
