ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF after rom upload - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI ANDROID DEVELOPERS
I have got a "little" problem with my desire HD. So Yesterday I unlocked bootloader at htc dev page, later I uploaded CWM, then I uploated ANDORID REVOLUTION HD ROM.
When I have done it I found out I don't have a ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF. How can I get ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF now? AR HD is working but wifi has an error. Please tell me how I can repair my beloved htc.

Make sure the battery cover is on properly.
What error are you getting?
Sent from a dream.

Batery cover is ok, wifi only "error" when I turn it on.
edit, I don't know what happend but wifi is working so my last question is How can I do ENG S-OFF and Radio S-OFF?

Check my signature. You got all the info you need to start. Make sure to check post#7 as well.
Sent from a dream.

If I have unlocked bootloader on htcdev I also can use aahk?

No. Relock the bootloader and then run AAHK. You don't *have* to do that to flash ROMs, though it makes the process a lot easier. You can still flash ROMs right now. Go to the post Teichopsia said and read about the difference between htcdev unlock and AAHK unlock.

Thanks for answers. I think this is last question, how can I lock bootloader ? Fastboot can do it?
Before locking I should upload stock rom and stock kernel? If yes where I can download best or maybe I can do it at android revolution?

To relock the bootloader, boot in fastboot, open a cmd as admin and then type:
fastboot oem lock
That's it. You should read relocked in hboot after rebooting bootloader.
Make sure that you reboot bootloader before checking success.

So, I have another bigger problem, when I used aahk program was suspended, now I have locked bootloader, when I try go to CWM LCD is turning off. Vol- and turn of button still working. I destroy my phone already? Or I can fix it yet?
Maybe I should run phone in fastboot and instal official RUU?

Do you still have the Hack Kit session to paste it here? Can you still access to hboot? what does hboot says at the top left corner?

No I don' have There was something after radio "please wait" or something like this. But I waited 30 minuts. Now I have android revolution again -.- , maybe I should go back to stock? If yes where I can download stock kernel and stock rom .zip preferably

You don't have to run the Hack option again...what for? you are already running a custom rom. What you have to do, is to choose the o) option of the Hack Kit and then to flash the ENG S-OFF...
Radio S-OFF will only be possible reverting to stock as you say....that is pretty clear in the manual.

To sum up I must:
1Lock bootloader "fastboot oem lock" on andorid revolution
2Use aahk press "o" and flash the ENG S-OFF
3Unlock bootloader the same like on htc dev?
4flash orginal rom and kernel, later do Radio S-OFF
?
UMT need locked bootloader?
Sorry for my questions but I'm layman :c

Try revolutionary ! It will S-Off your phone and install the revolutionary recovery. From then on you can flash other hboots or recovery's
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
revolutionary is not working with hboot 1.03 (1.02 and lower)
I think the only way is downgrade(if possible, don't know the way) and get root/s-off on lower hboot

There is your problem. HTC official method doesn't give you the same freedom unofficial methods do. As far as I know there is no turn back yet, so bad luck for you, inform yourself better next time. htcdev gives you root but leaves hboot locked.
from HTC site:
htc said:
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

You can't change your bootloader because you are S-ON and you can't get S-OFF because methods to get S-OFF are based on original bootloaders, by installing HTC's new bootloader you have locked you out of getting S-OFF. HTC does only give you access to boot, recovery and system, is not full S-OFF and that includes a locked bootloader.
yeah you basically screwed yourself by using the official method. Ironic isnt it?
via xda app
Not sure why all the peripheral discussion around here makes it sound as if he's bricked his phone.
OP, I understand you've "successfully" unlocked the bootloader and want to flash cwmr. In that case, the solution is to download a .img image of cwmr, and flash it using the fastboot program:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or use any of the GUI tools for fastboot.
For all practical purposes, unlocked bootloader ought to be enough for you.
ok problem sovled
This method i have folow with some changes.
1) Unlock phone via HTC official process (registration required)
You are now unlocked S-ON but have no root access on the existing rom, however by doing it the official way you dont need to flash the radio anyway. I used the following steps to get CM7 installed on mine.
2) Downloaded ClockworkMod Recovery 5 (GSM not CDMA)
download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img
(i have download instead dl.dropbox.com/u/4518713/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-bravo.zip this from this topic)
(sorry - forum wont let me post urls yet)
3) reboot phone into fastboot
and plug in the usb
4) In the environment you set up for the HTC unlock process enter
(this means put the *.img file you downloaded in this file: C:/Android (with adb, fastboot)
open cmd, type:
"cd c:\Android"
"fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img" OR "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-bravo.img"
5)unplug the usb cable from your phone.
select bootloader press power to select
wait 20 sec
select recovery press power to select
if the flash was successful you will se the ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 OR 5.0.2.7
6) To navigate into ClockWorkMod Recovery
Use trackpad, not power to select
Yes, that's the age old method of flashing via hboot. Nothing new about it.
Android flasher can also be used to flash recovery right? And isn't it much easier?

yes, for newbies. For us, we could probably finish flashing by the time you load it.

Yeah Android Flasher is a useful tool as I use it myself but I still believe that the manual way of doing it using command is the best way to go specially if you are having issues.

How to S-off after HTCDev Unlock?

Hi everyone,
I want to S-off my device again, so I don't need to reflash the Boot.img of every custom rom over and over again.
I've tried to flash my device with the DHD Stock 1.32 Rom to use jkoljo's method for S-off'ing my device.
So I put the PD98IMG.zip on my SDcard and let the HBoot flash it. After the reboot I got stuck at HTC Logo and this happens too after flashing PD98IMG.zip's boot.img
So is there another way to S-off my device while I'm HTCDevUnlocked or is it game over for S-off?
I've googled for some time on the net, but I couldn't find a DHD specific result.
Thanks in advance!

I guess, I need to be on an original rom or a Sense-rom
Do you know how I can flash an original rom from HTC itself? I thought it was like putting P98IMG.zip on the sd and let HBoot find it and flash it.
But after that I got stuck at HTC-logo, and flashing the boot.img doesn't work neither :s
I really don't know how to flash DHD's Froyo rom after (HTCDev) unlocking my device
Run the RUU of the OS you were last on, so if you were on WWE 2.50 run that RUU, or if you were on 3.12 Sense 3.0 then run that, relock the bootloader, and run attn1's Ace Hack Kit, it will automatically do the downgrade for you so you get S-OFF.

[Q] Can you S-off and have a Unlocked Bootloader?

I'm trying to root my girlfriend's T-mobile HTC Wildfire S properly like I did with my HTC Sensation. Switching views from Sensation forums, Wildfire S is very hectic and chaotic. There are not any clear and organized post that list the steps.
Questions:
1.) Is it possible to root, s-off, and unlocked bootloader for T-mobile US HTC Wildfire S?
2.) I read many post where you can s-off the phone but bootloader remained locked and vice versa. Why can you s-off with one method and then unlock bootloader with another?
3.) Just to make sure. If the phone is unlocked with bootloader but S-on, can we start flashing custom ROMs? What about if the phone is S-off and bootloader is locked, can we flash custom ROMs then?
Thank you in advance, any help will be very considerate!
YES in both cases
S-on + bootloader unlocked, you can flash custom roms.
S-off + bootloader locked, you can flash custom roms.
In both cases you need custom recovery, clockwork mod etc.

Do you prefer me to Unlock bootloader before s-off or vice versa? Can you tell me what you did? It'll help soooo much. In addition, do 4ext Recovery work?
Once s-off, download clockwork recovery from alquez thread in development section.
Place the file PG76IMG.zip in the root of your SD.
Power off your phone, pull battery, replace battery, hold volume down + power to enter hboot,
Wait for file to be found and it will ask if you wanna update, click yes (volume up I think) then reboot your phone.
Note: you will need to delete the custom recovery file or move it from the root of your SD.
Now download root.zip just search within the wildfire s forums and you'll find it.
Note 2: once rooted you could install rom manager and install official clockwork recovery.

Where would unlocking bootloader fit in to this? What method did you use to s-off?
If your s-off no need to unlock the boot loader as the security is turned off.
If you haven't achieved s-off then unlocking the boot loader will allow you to flash roms and/or custom recovery, but you will not be able to upgrade radio or hboot.
I gained s-off with an xtc clip.

You can unlock your bootloader by following the appropriate steps at htcdev.com/bootloader
I guess, to turn S-OFF on, you'll need XTC-Clip. Go for the bootloader method - easier.

Alright, to make this clear. You can't have both is the bottom-line. BUT, it is possible with an XTC-Clip.
Questions:
1.) So if I choose to s-off, what benefits do I loose from NOT unlocking bootloader? Vice versa.
2.) Do you prefer to have the phone with an unlocked bootloader or s-off? Since I can't have both.
OK there is currently no software to give full s-off. Full s-off allows to flash to the full nand including radio images and different hboots.
Htcdev unlocked boot loader is software done, and has fastboot commands enabled. But can not write to all of the nand, meaning it won't flash radios and downgraded hboots.
You can have both, but you need to get a xtc clip. S-off, then upgrade to the htcdev hboot. Then use simonsimons bootloader unlock tool from the Dev section to enable fastboot commands without HTC knowing, thus keeping warrenty. But, if you only intend to do custom roms a htcdev unlocked boot loader will suffice.

Thanks! I just want to root my girlfriend's phone because I am tired of her nagging saying her phone is slow and yada yada...If you don't mind, can you read my plan of action and tell me if it is correct or not?
STEPS TO UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER and ROOTING for T-mobile HTC Wildfire S:
1.) Follow this to unlock bootloader [TUTORIAL][S-ON] Unlock Bootloader using HTCDEV.com
*** I also found this youtube video which seems to have all the steps (HD) How to Root the HTC Wildfire S (GSM) - Cursed4Eva***
2.) I want to follow this link but it says if I have to be s-off [TUTORIAL][ROOT] How to root your HTC Wildfire S?
In addition, I see a lot of custom ROMs saying you must be s-off in order to flash. What if I am s-on with unlocked bootloader?
Well, I personally have never done this. But the logic is sound firstly upgrade to the htcdev hboot but stop before it comes to unlocking it. Then go to the dev section and look for simonsimons bootloader unlock tool. Use that to unlock the bootloader and keep warrenty then again to the dev section and flash the alquez (hope that's spelled right ) recovery! Then finally get the fashable superuser zip file for gb and flash it from recovery. You now have root
As far as custom roms are concerned most will go on an unlocked bootloader, as that is what most people have here. But is a rom states that it really needs s-off or a different radio you may have some issues
Good luck buddy. If you need links let me know

Error : No Connection.?

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

he doesn't need to update the hboot, he can easily flash the engineering one and do it a way lot easier.
I am doing what Steam. has said. but since I am running Windows 8, I am encountering some .NET Framework issue unfortunately. trying to resolve them first :/
OK I finally got the .NET Framework working. Gonna try out the process (Gonna read the ENG S-OFF) Obviously

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.
Example:

just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.

g2's RUU on DZ

Hi. Is it possible to install official T-mobile G2 RUU software on HTC Desire Z?
So long as radio secure flags are removed (s-off) then yes, but I can't think of a great reason to do so

I love AOSP. So I can download RUU eg. from here and simply run the installer?
Yes but that would leave with a shipped bootloader, stock recovery and a non rooted ROM. Maybe a worse radio too. Why not just flash a stock rooted ROM?
I can simply root it again by eg UnlockRoot program. but I want to have clear software, I dont like custom roms. And also I cant find newest 2.16.531.6 ziped rom. I prefer to install this RUU.
...but first I have to fix my phone. I dont know why, but I cant run anu RUU installer (even this for DZ). when I click "update" button, it is waiting for bootloader, and after this there is a comunicat that phone is unpluged. I wonder I have to do this with ADB
But thanks for your answer this is what I wanted to know
Sort of, if using some unlock program for root I have to imagine your not s-off and if you are its fake s-off which if you were to run the RUU you may brick your device. The only method you should use to root your phone is exploit via gfree.
As for custom ROMs, that's your choice but I will say there are ROMs that are more aosp than stock T-Mobile as all the g2 stock isn't pure aosp. Buy of course do as you will.
As for your RUU issues, it won't have anything to do with adb as they are to be flashed through fastboot, but again be careful as what you want to do is possible but if you don't meet the prerequisites you will have a brick

Ok, you are right. I'll flash some another aosp.
But now, this RUU issue.
So, from the beginning:
I changed the hboot to g2 one with this PC10IMG. Just flash by bootloader. Then I flashed the PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_2.15.531.3_Radio_12.52.60.25U_26.08.04.30_M3.zip. also by bootloader. Then found out that I cannot use RUUs installer because the phone dont wont to reebot into bootloader. So i change hboot to dz one with this PC10IMG. Now my hboot version is 0.84.2000 (PC1011000).
I installed some custom rom (virtuous sense 2.0.0).
I am running RUU software (RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.3_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_224299_signed.exe).
returning to the bootloader - is ok, phone is reebooting. But next is 'waiting for bootloader' and the Error, that the phone is unplugged.
On the phone screen for a while was the Black screen with Gray HTC logo, but for the moment there is white screen (looks like bootloader) with hboot version, Radio version, etc,
and at the end is: RUU
I hope you understand me.
What shoud I do? mayby the hboot version is incorect?
edit
I also cannot install 1.34.405.5_PC10IMG.zip by bootloader now. The files are loading, and then.. is nothing. There is no quastion for Update( vol up) or No (vol down)
edit2
Uff, the problem is solved. I hadn't installed bootloader drivers and radio was very old, so I had to update it. Thanks for your help, demkantor
No problem, I would advice to look through this thread a bit as well

You'll also find those asop ROMs there
