[Q] I know rooting voids warranty but...... - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

.....does unrooting allow to get the ability to receive OTA updates? Or is that gone forever too?

flash
Make a backup to sd card.Flash with odin a new fresh rom.make a factory reset.
Now you can catch your update, root again and restore the data partition.
Unroot only does not work. You wil get the Info that the system is modified.

I'm selling my 8.4 and trying to restore it to stock (Knox cant be modified i know) but i cant get my current binary to official status.
This is what i did :
1. Flash official firmware with Odin.
2. Use CF auto root for root access.
3. Use triangle away to reset current binary and system status.
I am able to reset the system status to offical but current binary doesnt change no matter how many times i use triangle away
Is there anything im doing wrong ? I need this to reset to stock so OTA is available because now android tells me the system is modified when i search for updates

You will not increase counter if you only check.Btw, why you need to flash stock recovery again when you ready on stock ?
how do i check the counter? download mode right? i just wanna put everything back to stock and wait for updates that samsung put out. we dont have much dev support yet so not much roms to choose from unlike the 7100 model. i think i got everything to stock now just not sure about my counter. also when i click on software update nothing happens it wont stop searching. did i do something wrong with my phone. its not giving me an answer like no updates available or ur phone is up to date.

Did you exactly do step by step I post #2 if so you won't have this issue. Device status must be Offical that reason why you can't get update.
i did the cf root unroot method with the triangle app and supersu. i downloaded stock rom and installed using odin.
Did you do a factory reset, since Odining back stock? If not try it.

samsung galaxy s3 sgh-t999v mobilicity shows up as Modified

Hi, I recently got a galaxy s3 (canadian version) 2 weeks ago from Mobilicity and just recently rooted following this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687. Before doing the rooting I was on the JB 4.1.1 update they released recently. Also used this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34661189&postcount=1 to unlock the phone
I would check daily but today I just noticed my device's status was Modified and I am unable to check for updates. I'm not sure what caused the modified status. I checked in download mode and my count is still 0/No. I also checked Triangle Away and it was the same. My device was normal when I first installed and used the root, I can only remember I just updated a few apps yesterday. I tried flashing with odin the rooted system image and it's the same.
I would like to be able to use the stock rom with root and updates, and set my device to normal status (I'd rather not update through Odin every time there is an update, and I am very satisfied with the stock rom). I've already backed up my data using Titaniumbackup, all my contact info and music (the stuff I only care about). Help appreciated.
EDIT: I also have installed Openrecovery script using goomanager, could that be the issue?

You will not be able update via your carrier OAT if you rooted your device. The only thing you can do is to unroot the device, do the update, and re-root the device again. Visit www.galaxys3root.com on how to root and re-root.

If that is all you wanted just flashing the root66 rom from mrRobinson's threat in you original post could have accomplished it.
This would not trip the flash counter if it was still 0, what did it was installing a custom recovery like open recovery.
Follow this steps to get to a 4.1.1 "unmodified" or normal stock system with only root injected to it. You will be able to check and receive OTA updates, but if you ever update your rom OTA you will loose root.
1-download root66 jellybean rom for mobilicity from mrRobinson's thread, there are instructions there how to flash it with desktop Odin. (this will keep everything in your rom and will give you the stock recovery back, so the counter does not trip again)
2-download, install and run triangle away from chainfire's thread this will reset the counter to 0. Search for it.
Now your counter is 0 again, nothing is tripping it, room is rooted but it will still say "modified" and OTA updates may still not work, to fix it you need a clean start. Do a system factory reset, start over fresh and life will be beautiful.

[Q] Stuck at "Searching for Updates" after Triangle Away

So after I rooted my phone, I found out that rooting set my binary counter to 1 and Samsung doesnt allow me to update to latest version. I tried using this app called "Voodoo OTA rootkeeper" that temporarily unroots my phone. I also found out that I needed to use Triangle Away in order to reset the binary counter.
Well I used Triangle Away, but I still cannot download the latest version from my phone. When I hit "check for updates" it is stuck at the popup screen checking for updates from Samsung. What happened? What can I do?
Is there a way to install the firmware 4.1.2 manually?
My download screen says:
Custom Binary download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Please help. Yes, I am a newbie.
Download the latest firmware.

You can't use OTA Updates unless you unroot ur phone to do so Download stock Rom then flash it via odin .

With triangle away you have only reset the binary count to zero. The next step and the recommended one would be to backup your data, full wipe and flash stock Rom through Odin.

All you need is Triangle Away. The app might be in conflict with Voodoo OTA rootkeeper. Triangle Away only works with root on. Remove Voodoo OTA rootkeeper and try again with Triangle.
As long as you have TWRP or CWM on, the counter will be tripped to 1 every time you boot. Check the option "Auto reset at boot" in Triangle.

Not working, need help on that
1) installed pre-rooted firmware
2) Use TA to reset counter
3) Use titanium backup to wipe data from Enterprise Sysscope and Sysscope ( Sysscope may be frozen so, de-frost it and then wipe data).
4) Format the Ext SD card as it may contain some backups which might trigger the modified status
5) Use Root explorer to delete busybox from system/xbin/busybox (Since full Unroot will not delete busybox, the Sysscope will scan the phone for this after boot and change the Status to modified)
6) Full unroot using Super user
7) Reboot and enjoy
Follow this method if anyone wants to completely turn their phone to original status This will also make your phone to get updates via OTA
Anyone tried this not working for me

A question

So i unrooted my phone through SuperSU and flashed offical samsung firmware, but i didn't wiped data and cache, and didn't wipe binary counter.
When i go into download mode it says i downloaded 1 custom rom but the current firmware it says samsung official and official in the last option.
And in the settings it says device modified.
Will i have any problems downloading official updates or any other problems besides warranty?
Thanks.
Check for binary counter, if it is "1" then you have to make it "no"
You have to make it "no" using triangle away app. But it requires root.
So root your phone.
Use triangle away
Make binery counter to "no".
Unroot through superdsu.
Wipe data and cache (it will make last option system status to official)
Reboot phone.
Done ready for warranty and official updates through OTA.
But you can flash stock rom through odin for double confirm of unroot.

[Q] How to Root GT-N7100 with TRWP not CWM

Sup Guys!
Thinking of rooting my phone (running on 4.3 Jellybean) again but this time I want to go with TWRP since CWM (Philz Touch) gave me a mini heart-attack last time (couldn't clear cache). Want to root again to Back-Up EFS, before I Unroot again and Flash Stock Rom
would be great if you guys could give me a step by step guide still learning the things to do with Android (NOOB)
BTW I don't think I properly unrooted my phone since Knox still reacts to it
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/12/Safe-Root-Android-4.3-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note-No-Warranty-Void.html
Use that to root.
Odin Http://goo.gl/hW8vGr
Flash Twrp from here Http://goo.gl/SSyv53 using odin (link above) with pda tab

Its possible that you could extract the recovery file from your main rom and flash just that. I dont know if that would work. The risk free version would see you reflash the stock rom and simply reroot with saferoot. It doesnt trip any counters and is properly simple to use. Although I did have to change between mtp and camera a few times before it picked up my phone sometimes. Ive rooted with it a few times now.

Lol I already tripped my Knox counter to 0x1 I rooted my device before with not enough knowledge on rooting (didn't know saferoot yet)
So I have to
-Flash Stock Rom
-Reroot with the Saferoot method
-Get TWRP (with Odin)
-Backup EFS
Then I could go back to stock Recovery?
I'm running on stock rom and stock recovery right now but my Device Status is Modified and I want to reset that with Triangle Away
Sorry for asking so much question still new to Android
If all your wanting is an efs backup then root with saferoot, get your efs backup with this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yahoo.dr.ketan.efsn7100
And then use triangle away to reset your binary counter. That wont reset the knox counter though so is probably a risk not worth taking. I have used triangle away before successfully but there is a risk of bricking it warns you about. If your warrantys already in the pan theres no real point to it.
After youve got the efs backup you can use the superuser app to unroot and use application manager to remove superuser application. Thats if you want to unroot. I stay rooted as I use apps a lot that need root.
you dont have to mess with recoverys at all if its just an efs backup you want or is there something else?
