So i unrooted my phone through SuperSU and flashed offical samsung firmware, but i didn't wiped data and cache, and didn't wipe binary counter.
When i go into download mode it says i downloaded 1 custom rom but the current firmware it says samsung official and official in the last option.
And in the settings it says device modified.
Will i have any problems downloading official updates or any other problems besides warranty?
Thanks.
Check for binary counter, if it is "1" then you have to make it "no"
You have to make it "no" using triangle away app. But it requires root.
So root your phone.
Use triangle away
Make binery counter to "no".
Unroot through superdsu.
Wipe data and cache (it will make last option system status to official)
Reboot phone.
Done ready for warranty and official updates through OTA.
But you can flash stock rom through odin for double confirm of unroot.

Hi, I recently got a galaxy s3 (canadian version) 2 weeks ago from Mobilicity and just recently rooted following this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687. Before doing the rooting I was on the JB 4.1.1 update they released recently. Also used this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34661189&postcount=1 to unlock the phone
I would check daily but today I just noticed my device's status was Modified and I am unable to check for updates. I'm not sure what caused the modified status. I checked in download mode and my count is still 0/No. I also checked Triangle Away and it was the same. My device was normal when I first installed and used the root, I can only remember I just updated a few apps yesterday. I tried flashing with odin the rooted system image and it's the same.
I would like to be able to use the stock rom with root and updates, and set my device to normal status (I'd rather not update through Odin every time there is an update, and I am very satisfied with the stock rom). I've already backed up my data using Titaniumbackup, all my contact info and music (the stuff I only care about). Help appreciated.
EDIT: I also have installed Openrecovery script using goomanager, could that be the issue?

The counter is 0, should I still try to reset it?
Edit: just used TriangleAway, device status still modified, I can access the software update now though, but it gets stuck while checking

You will not be able update via your carrier OAT if you rooted your device. The only thing you can do is to unroot the device, do the update, and re-root the device again. Visit www.galaxys3root.com on how to root and re-root.

If that is all you wanted just flashing the root66 rom from mrRobinson's threat in you original post could have accomplished it.
This would not trip the flash counter if it was still 0, what did it was installing a custom recovery like open recovery.
Follow this steps to get to a 4.1.1 "unmodified" or normal stock system with only root injected to it. You will be able to check and receive OTA updates, but if you ever update your rom OTA you will loose root.
1-download root66 jellybean rom for mobilicity from mrRobinson's thread, there are instructions there how to flash it with desktop Odin. (this will keep everything in your rom and will give you the stock recovery back, so the counter does not trip again)
2-download, install and run triangle away from chainfire's thread this will reset the counter to 0. Search for it.
Now your counter is 0 again, nothing is tripping it, room is rooted but it will still say "modified" and OTA updates may still not work, to fix it you need a clean start. Do a system factory reset, start over fresh and life will be beautiful.

So i have given up with my note 2's connection issues and going to send it in for an exchange. I flashed back to stock, used auto root then triangle away. Then unrooted and got the OTA. My device status is still modified though. Is there a certain order i need to follow? Would wiping through recovery and factory reset fix the problem? My phone isnt rooted and got the update, so im not sure what the problem is.
Also, the manager at tmobile who set me up with the phones told me that they will accept modified devices in a warrenty exchange. I also read that if your flash counter isnt tripped and your phone isnt rooted (ie my phone currently) that is also ok under the policy.
Anyone got any knowledge on this?
If your local store manager is cool with it, whats the problem? Fwiw though heres how I get a normal status. Run triangle away, open mobile odin pro and flash mr. Robinsons root injected stock firmware. Make sure to have wipe data checked and uncheck inject root or inject mobile odin. After that process youll have a rooted "normal status" device.

Well the exchange will be done via mail. He said hes sent in devices that were flashed and didnt have a problem but i am skeptical. I dont want them to get it and then contact me stating the exchange is invalid and i have to pay the deductible for the refurb they send.
So as im official stock rom and recovery and triangled away, whats the quickest and easiest route to getting my modified status back to normal?
This is how I went from modified to normal:
1. Download root66 -old firmware, (mr. Robinson) and install via odin
2. dl, triangle away and reset counter, reboot, go to supersu and forget root apps by hutting # sign, go to settings, choose full unroot or something like that, turn off phone
3. Go into recovery, hold vol up, power n home button, release power button upon display
4. Do complete wipe of phone, reboot, status sld now reflect normal
5. Install OTA
6. If you want root again, recommend u use root66 (new firmware) to stay normal status
7.enjoy!
Note, this is how I did, theyre might millions ways to do it, but this is what worked for me!!!

The phone should be here monday or Wednesday. Im gonna try a factory reset and wiping cache before I reflash another stock rom to see if that removes modified. I used chainfires autoroot and triangled away after flashing the stock rom. I think thats why it says modified. We'll see what happens when the phone comes in, thx for the reply

It says modified it any app on the system is asking for root permission, do this:
#1. Flash a root66 odin
#2. Boot and intstall triangle away, run it follow the instructions
#3. After you reboot, uninstall triangle away.
#4. Go to super SU and go to settings and select Full unroot.
#5. boot into recovery (stock now) and do a factory reset.
There you go, this is the method I use for warranty purposes.

I kinda had the same problem. Here's how i fixed it:
I have a t889, never really messed around with it, except to unlock it. Ive been a long time fan of xda though, so i decided it was time to start rooting, but was worried about voiding my warranty. Ive read all about resetting flash counters, using triangle away etc ect. but wasnt too awful sure about all of this.
In the end I decided to go with option 2 (strictly rooting my phone) found on this form:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955423
Flashed through odin, no problems, worked great. Said this in download mode after rooting:
custom binary download: yes (1 count)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: custom
Decided to try and unroot it, in case i needed a warranty exchange once i went back wih tmobile. Flashed the normal stock rom downloaded through kies (so i KNEW it was straight from samsung ya know?). Again, no problem.
Went back into download mode...... saw this:
custom binary download: yes (2 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
alrighty then. rerooted using CF autoroot as per thread instructions. now i saw this is download mode:
custom binary download: yes (3 counts)
Current Binary: custom
System Status: custom
Used triangle away. Now i saw this in download mode:
custom binary download: no
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
I said to myself "YAY! now to simply remove the root by using supersu (settings, full unroot), and do a system/cache reset from recovery mode, like it says." Did that exactly like they say in the forum......... saw this:
custom binary download: yes (1 count)
Current Binary: custom
System Status: custom
me = NOT HAPPY at that point! So, i retried all the steps listed, thinking i did something wrong. Same results. Tried it a 3rd time, same thing..... finally about to through my pc, i searched the forums for some other fix.
Found THIS thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560
HOLY COW IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!!!! After simply flashing the root66_TMO_T889UVALL4 rom with odin, my download mode now says this:
custom binary download: no
Current Binary: samsung official
System Status: official
Not ONLY is it consistently saying this thoughout MANY reboots, it also stays this way after a system/cache reset through recovery mode.
AND if you use the root66 rom, your phone is basically normal stock tmobile everything, with one huge exception... ITS ROOTED!!!! YAY! Now you can do whatever the heck u want, and if u have to send it in for warranty exchage, just use the system/cache reset from recovery mode and it wont chnce any of the values like i was having so many problems with! No need to use supersu to unroot and no need to use triangle away (although i still bought the app even if its just to support the devloper).
I hope this helps anyone who's running into the same problems I did. I cant thank the OP of the root66 rom (mrRobinson) anywhere NEAR enough for fixing my phone! Now i can uninstall the bloatware and CARRIER IQ that i hate, and not have to worry about screwing up my warrany exchange!
A major problem
I rooted my Samsung galaxy s3 via the odin software and chainfire.. but then I realised that my warranty has been lost! When I checked my apps, there were two apps installed after rooting. CWM manager and supersu.. I opened the supersu and clicked 'cleanup for full unroot'. I thought this will unroot my phone but it didn't. The software update was showing that my phone has been modified. I don't know what to do now.. I tried installing supersu again from the playstore but it says that it requires root access. please help regarding this major problem.. I want to get the stock firmware and my warranty back! Please help me! Thanks! Email me [email protected]
So after I rooted my phone, I found out that rooting set my binary counter to 1 and Samsung doesnt allow me to update to latest version. I tried using this app called "Voodoo OTA rootkeeper" that temporarily unroots my phone. I also found out that I needed to use Triangle Away in order to reset the binary counter.
Well I used Triangle Away, but I still cannot download the latest version from my phone. When I hit "check for updates" it is stuck at the popup screen checking for updates from Samsung. What happened? What can I do?
Is there a way to install the firmware 4.1.2 manually?
My download screen says:
Custom Binary download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom

With triangle away you have only reset the binary count to zero. The next step and the recommended one would be to backup your data, full wipe and flash stock Rom through Odin.

All you need is Triangle Away. The app might be in conflict with Voodoo OTA rootkeeper. Triangle Away only works with root on. Remove Voodoo OTA rootkeeper and try again with Triangle.
As long as you have TWRP or CWM on, the counter will be tripped to 1 every time you boot. Check the option "Auto reset at boot" in Triangle.

Not working, need help on that
1) installed pre-rooted firmware
2) Use TA to reset counter
3) Use titanium backup to wipe data from Enterprise Sysscope and Sysscope ( Sysscope may be frozen so, de-frost it and then wipe data).
4) Format the Ext SD card as it may contain some backups which might trigger the modified status
5) Use Root explorer to delete busybox from system/xbin/busybox (Since full Unroot will not delete busybox, the Sysscope will scan the phone for this after boot and change the Status to modified)
6) Full unroot using Super user
7) Reboot and enjoy
Follow this method if anyone wants to completely turn their phone to original status This will also make your phone to get updates via OTA
Anyone tried this not working for me

Hey,
So, i have SGH-M919V, i tried some custom roms and recovery to get the LTE working on my original stock windmobile rom. Now it has, so i returned to that rom.
I have triangle away installed, and it is rooted. I can't seem to permantly reset the binary counter and change the binary to official from custom.
Any ideas? So when I do it, it does reset and app closes. Then I do a reboot, the binary counter goes back to what it was before i used triangle away.
I am on stock original firmware that came with my phone..

Not Resetting the counter
I have T-mobile SG4, SGH-M919 ..
I have rooted and installed custom ROM Infamous and everything is however I am planning to un-root it and go with tmobile stock ROM.
I have installed the latest Triangle Away from the below URL and Installation completes successfully.

During the resting process I dont see any error message, it says ITS DONE but The counter is not resetting and The System = Official
I am not sure why it is not resting the counter.
Please help me if you have any idea? Because it says the system = official, so it is not re-setting the counter back to 1 or 0??

i need help to unroot if its even possible for my phone.
im stock rooted. never flashed any rom or kernels...just root only
my micro usb port is broken, i want to have it fixed through Telus under warranty. is it even possible to unroot without using the usb?
What version firmware are you running?
What super user app are you using and what version?
Do you have a custom recovery installed?
Do you want to reset the custom counters in download mode and make the phone look completely stock before sending it in?
Is the phone still under warranty? (Probably should have asked this first)

Yes under warranty
no recovery installed
SuperSU v1.93
ideally would want it to look stock
If you are on 4.3 you've probably tripped the knox warranty flag but regardless, you probably will want to look into running Triangle Away to reset the download counters.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
Once you've done that, uninstall Triangle Away, uninstall any other root enabled apps, then run SuperSU and select "Full Unroot".
Reboot phone and you should be looking stock or as much as you can - status should show as normal and download mode should show as official except for the knox counter as noted above.
