[Guide] How to root and install custom rom in Note3 ( SM-N900T) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello XDA Members,
First of all I like to say sorry if this post is in wrong section. The purpose behind is to help people who have official kitkat update and can't root and install custom roms. This can also help people to eliminate those boot looping error and everything, I will consider this thread for the newbie.
Lets Start
1) Download Stock Rom just in case, if something goes wrong. Stock Rom
2) Install CF Auto Root
3) Install CWM to install CWM use odin3 v3.09. You install this just the method you used for rooting.
4) After rooting and installing recoveries download the rom and put it under download (internal memory not sd card), Since we have kitkat version please download the kitkat version rom and try to avoid MI7.
5) After downloading Kitkat version rom. Put it on Recovery Method ( home + pwr off button + volume plus button )
6) Wipe cache and davik Cache and install rom from the sdcard/download (internal memory).
Conns-: You cannot install rom from sd card, if you will try it will give you error. If someone know how to fix it do mention in this thread thank you.
Alternative Method

I had some trouble getting to 4.4.2 from 4.3, couldn't get recovery to flash. Few things I noticed:
First get stock with Odin
Goomanager tries to install 4.3 twrp
Download the correct twrp yourself, flash with recovery flasher from play
Reboot into recovery and flash jedi

Yes this method will trip the knox . However do have a look at this thread Click Here

i've looked at that thread but as I understand it only works for Android 4.3. can anyone confirm the root de la Vega method working on the SM-N900T with Android 4.4.2 without tripping the Knox flag? I'm running build NB4.

Can someone post instructions using heimdall? I really want to root my N3 but have no windows pc

de la vega could maintain the knox on 0x0

4.4. KitKat for Wifi Note 10.1 2014 P600 Q&A

Hi guys I have some questions about the new Firmware and KitKat in general and you may have answers I'll try to update first post with your answers!
-Will I loose root when I flash through Odin? --> Yes
-Is the new firmware rootable, or is there a way to keep root when I upgrade from rooted 4.3?
-->For upgrade yes: If you are rooted on 4.3 you can restore root by flashing a custom recovery and flash superSU manually.
-->chainfire autoroot works but you need to update the superSU app through play store after flashing.
-Will KitKat restrict access to my SD card? -->Yes but fixable through an app or editing a file (needs root), there is already a thread about that.
-Can I still use flash with KitKat? How?
-->Yes, there is a hacked version see 2nd post for link.
-How is the touchscreen driver? Is the stuttering fixed? Do touch and hold actions still drop after ~23sec?
-->Pretty much fixed. To about the same state as the improved Kernel we had a while ago.
-Are there any apps that are not working (root apps too)?
-Gesture Controls? --> works
-Xposed framework app settings? -->works
-Is Hancom Office included or does it still work? --> not included but does still work.
Thats about what I can think of a the moment.
Hi,
If you are already rooted then all you have to do is re install TWRP and then flash SU zip then you have root.
For flash player, download hacked version here, it works I tested it on new software :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/go...e-how-to-play-flash-video-android-4-t2548001
Also, xposed works. Tested it on new software

Chainfire's Auto Root does work, once you flash it thru odin and reboot, go to the Play store and update the app.
- Please update OP
Here's a question: I'm already rooted. Is flashing the stock KitKat image via Odin and rerooting the only way to upgrade?

If you are already rooted, I assume you have TWRP too. Just download this KitKat rom, full wipe and install.

I formatted my 4.3 before flashing it maybe thats why?

Not sure... I installed KK on the tablet via Odin, then rebooted and setup, then rebooted into download mode and flashed auto root thru Odin.
Upon reboot I got an error selecting SuperSU, but once I updated it thru the Play Store its been fine.
Using ES Explorer I removed the items I don't need and removed all of the Knox stuff.
There are a few of us this worked for so I don't know what went wrong for you.
If you don't succeed then try again, and again, and again....Good luck.

As far as it goes I think after rooting it with CFroot you should update the SuperSU from the Playstore.

Hello, I was trying to update my note 2 with DN3 kitkat rom today.. But didn't work! :/
I rooted the phone. I got correct root access.
Then followed the instruction to flash the ROM.
After reboot, I could hear the welcome sound(new) and saw the samsung animated logo..then it stuck there. I waited for some 15mins, but nothing happened, only the animated samsung logo.
I saw an issue in TWRP.. saying there was a problem with permission. I don't know what was it. I tried to fix permission, but it failed.
After nothing worked, now I am in the process of recovery from kies.
Perhaps I didn't have the right step by step guide; from rooting the phone to flashing it. :/
If someone could please help, would be great!.. I really want to flash my phone for the DN3 custom rom.
Thanks.
Why do you need to root when flashing custom rom? It is already prerooted. You only need recovery.

As per rooting instruction, it is mentioned that the device must be rooted before flashing a custom rom from stock rom.
While installing the recovery the device is rooted or another way that I tried was to root by CFroot first, which was successfully done then I got the super user access to install a recovery like TWRP,,

[Q] Note 2 not rooted via cf autoroot

Hello,
I've tried to root my Galaxy Note 2 GT N7100 (KitKat 4.4.2) [original, NO custom ROM or CWM]
with
CF-Auto-Root-t03g-gtn7100.tar.md5
via ODIN
as shown in several tutorials.
All seemed passed ok, nothing obviously went wrong, SuperSU appears in the app drawer.
BUT
If started, SU has been be stopped, Root Checker says, the system is very slow and the phone is NOT rooted (properly).
Updating SU via PlayStore is NOT possible, only to deactivate.
Counter is on 1, Triangle away and other system apps don't work, because the phone isn't really rooted
Wipe data also is changing nothing.
So I've now a NON-rooted phone with the counter on 1, updates via OTA were denied, by reasons seen above.
What can I do? Could 'GalaxyNote2Root' be an option?
THX!

Ohh, THX for you fast reply!
Does
openrecovery-twrp-2.7.2.1-t03g.img
match?
Or alternative: cwm6-root-note2, but this is old (2008)
I tried rooting my N7105 LTE last night and think I am having the same problem mate, hopefully someone can help!
Most important question: Why do you want to root your device?
If you want to run custom roms, forget about root cause you only need a custom recovery (best the recommended one for the rom) flashed with Odin.
Then you can flash any rom you want through this recovery and most of them are pre-rooted, so :good:
Only if you want to be rooted with stock rom I will try to guide you.
THX

Only to prevent KNOX to deny access to the external card and run some apps, which need SU-rights, e.g. Titanium- / efs- Backup and so one.
At last to make TC working again. This app makes the phone freezing (superSU cannot start and hangs).
Thanks for yor reply.
One way to do it:
Flash custom recovery through Odin and afterwards latest SuperSu.
After bootup the app will deactivate Knox.
EDIT: I have not tested, cause I make my own rooted base-roms, so I hope it will work for you.
I can provide you such a base

If you wanted to keep your warranty intact you can also try towel root if you haven't updated yet. Can't flash custom roms that way but may not need to thanks to the xposed framework

and the phone reboots. I used these files for rooting from this tutorial.
Can you help me?
Wow! That is very very old! You should read the sticky threads and search the General and FaQ sections for more recent info.
Also search xda for SuperSU and you'll find the version you should be flashing is 2.46. (Probably all you need)
Or, depending on your firmware build, you can just use Towelroot. (Page 1 in general section)

manual root
The thing is that I want to install manually root access because I want to install clockworkmod and a costum ROM. Although I installed towelroot as you mentioned and I granted root access, now if install a costum ROM the towelroot app will be deleted so I loose root access right?
I also tried flashing SuperSu 2.46 before towelroot but still, no root access.
Thnx.
Any rom you flash will be rooted so you don't have to worry about that. Just flash your recovery and then flash your rom. That's it.

Then, what's the root for? So we can just copy the roms/recovery zips into our sd and flash them?
Root allows you to read\write the \system partition, and parts if /data that are also protected. It only affects things when booted into the android OS. There are lots of things you can do with it. Debloat, modify, tweak, etc.
Pretty much all custom roms are already rooted, and all you need to flash them is a custom recovery.
