Radio , Modem and Baseband , differences? - LG Optimus G (International)

Sorry for my noob question!! Do "RADIO , MODEM and BASEBAND" have same meanings in LG Optimus G and other mobile phones or they are different things? Because in Optimus G we can erase radio and erase modem separately through fastboot!
Thanks...

Any help?!

I have no idea about those two separate erase options you are talking about, but typically all three words are used interchangeably. Same thing, no difference.

Ok good, thanks! I was confused about them. For each custom or stock ROM we have special baseband (radio, modem) ?

No. Baseband/radio/modem is not specific to a particular ROM, but rather to a carrier or a country/area. Most ROMs don't include a baseband, so when you flash a ROM, your original baseband stays unchanged. Unless there is an indication that a particular baseband would be a better choice for that ROM, you should be good with what you've got.
You WILL reflash your baseband if you flash a stock KDZ, because KDZ image replaces everything, including bootloader, baseband, and recovery.

Thanks friend final and last question
You mean if I flash an stock KDZ that is android 4.1.2 , then I use freegee to unlock bootoader and install a custom 4.4.2 ROM that is without baseband/radio , can this 4.4.2 ROM works with stock original baseband/radio that is unchanged?

Yes, it should work. I personally couldn't make 4.4 work with my Korean baseband, but it's related to the F180 -> E975 "conversion", which is messy, and is known to cause some weird issues. For the actual E975 (or other non-Korean variants), it should be just fine.

[Q]What's the difference between BASEBAND, RADIO and MODEM?

Hi. I am a little bit confused between the difference of the these three files. Can someone explain the differences and what they are for? Thanks!
Same thing.
Yep. Same thing, but every manufacturer called it differently : samsung-modem,sony-baseband,htc-radio.

As I figured it out. Just the same. Thanks to you guys! For clarification, when going back to my Stock KDZ, do I have to flash any baseband or modem after KDZ flashing? So far I have no problem with my flashing KDZ's.
Nope.Just flash kdz. Root, unlock and use the tutorial from my signature . Or you can use Epsilon rom. tweak as well with xposed .

KDZ replaces everything. So you will have stock modem back.

LTE Problems

Hey guys
I installed a nightly of CM11 a while ago and it broke my LTE. The consensus is that you need to install a stock-based ROM, then flash back to CM11 to get LTE working again.
I have flashed an MK5 modem, but am unsure of my bootloader compatibility with the current TouchWiz ROM's out there.
I am on the MF1 bootloader (Canadian phone). Do I need to upgrade/downgrade my bootloader to install any of these TW ROM's? Or can I just flash between TW and CM11 to my heart's consent?
The ROM's say you must be running a 4.3 modem and bootloader...but I can't find any info on whether or not MF1 is a 4.3 bootloader or not?
Thanks,
Elliott
Bump
I haven't tried cm11 yet but using c-rom I had these problems. under settings-mobile networks-preferred network type, check to see the right network is selected. If you don't have these options then my apologies.

MF1 is 4.1.2. The latest Canadian bootloader is MK5 (Which you can't downgrade from).

Well usually you need the same modem as your bootloaders. Some of them are really picky so having the MK5 might be why your LTE isn't working.
You can grab the stock ROM in the general stickies and flash it with Odin though (make sure to backup) if flashing a 4.1.2 modem doesn't fix it.

Okay. What I'm most concerned about is flashing a 4.3 TW ROM with the bootloader that I have. Is having a bootloader from 4.1.2 a bad thing? Or can I install all ROM's with MF1?

Only the downgrade is dangerous, you can upgrade without any problem. That being said, you could just flash the stock 4.1.2.
And if I flash a stock based ROM will it upgrade my bootloader to one I won't be able to downgrade from?
Any suggestions for ROM's?

It depends which one you decide to flash. You can flash stock 4.1.2 just like you could flash 4.3 (which you can't downgrade from).

Confused about ZV8, ZVA, ZVC, ZVD

I see mention of ZV8, ZVA, ZVC, and ZVD. It has me all a little confused. Are these the modems? Or the basebands?
How can I find out which version I have? When I go to software information on my phone (running CloudyPro II 2.3), it lists a baseband of M8974A-AAAAANAZM-2.0.20046.
I'm basically trying to understand what the ZV8, ZVA, ZVC, and ZVD refer to exactly and how to tell which one I have. Also, is there any reason to have one over the other?
Thanks!
they are software versions. Each sofware version has its own baseband (referenced by the sofware version). zv7 was the first, then ZV8 (neither of these had tri-band enabled), then ZVA -TRI-BAND, then ZVC - (KIT KAT UPGRADE), AND NOW LATEST IS ZVD (KIT KAT PLUS KNOCK CODE)
The modems are not interchangeable as if you try to have kitkat but flash the zv8 modem, you will brick. Each software version you flash must match the modem (flashed in SAME recovery session, or your sol )
currently it looks like you have the ZVD baseband or ZVC
Thank you for the reply!
Am I at risk of a permanent brick if I flash the wrong combination? Or would it just be something like a boot loop, forcing me to reboot into recovery and restore a backup?
The reason I ask about all this is I've had problems flashing other ROMs. Coming from CloudyPro II 2.3, if I flash CM11 or Affliction (or some other ROMs), I seem to get boot loops, and I just have to restore a backup.
So basically, I'm just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong or what the best practice is to jump around to different ROMs with different basebands.
Thanks again!
I had a question.... You were able to find a cloudy Rom that works on Sprint?

[Q] i9195 upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2

Hi guys! I have the italian firmware for the i9195, i9195XXUBML4. I have alredy tripped my knox, so i don't care about the warranty...
If i flash the GT-I9195XXUCNH5_R1 deodexed from @ladislav.heller, will i face problem with modem or something else? I already have some experience with my ex s advance and with my current tablet ( tab2) wich are both with cyano, so i can understand something
I cannot try it because if i flash something i want to be sure that it is compatible with my phone, i wouldn't brick it
Sorry for the bad english xD
@Alecotro Before flashing that ROM you must upgrade your modem to cnh5. Links for that modem are on the ROM's thread.
When u download that modem file extract it and flash it with ODIN as PDA / AP. Repeat and verify if your modem changed. Check baseband in settings>about phone for confirmation. Once u are done upgrading the modem u can flash the ROM via custom recovery.
Without modem u will face connectivity issues and force closes. I am using that ROM and it is perfect.

Thank you very much! Will the different modem have problem italian carrier like wind (don't know if you know it)? Cause with my s advance i always had the same baseband whatever the rom i flashed...
And, in the future, if I flash something like cyano, will i have to switch back to my old modem?

No CM is independent from your modem.

Wifi Problem (I747M)

Hi,
I rooted my I747M and installed CM 11 D2LTE Rom 4.4.4 KK. (I tried with CM kernel and Quantum Kernel)
Everything work well, except the Wifi, it's not stable, going up and down all the time. So i tried to install different modem, all the other modem (From HERE I747M) are not working (WIFI is working very well with thoses modem but I have no Signal with Koodo) .... dont know why !!!
Should I try the AT&T modem ??
The only modem that work is the I747MVLUFNK2 Baseband & Modem (Koodo).
Is there other Baseband / modem that I can flash to get a stable Wifi !????
Thx
PS : Sorry for my bad english
What bootloader is on your phone? You should make sure the baseband/modem matches your bootloader. Does the problem occur with stock ROM?
My baseband/modem matches my bootloader. I didn't want to go back on the stock rom because i hate all the samsung Apps. But I think i have no choice, I will try it tomorrow to let u know if it is working good or not.
Thx for your fast answer
You should verify your bootloader before trying to go back to stock as attempts to downgrade a 4.3 or newer bootloader could brick your phone.
