[Q] i9195 upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I have the italian firmware for the i9195, i9195XXUBML4. I have alredy tripped my knox, so i don't care about the warranty...
If i flash the GT-I9195XXUCNH5_R1 deodexed from @ladislav.heller, will i face problem with modem or something else? I already have some experience with my ex s advance and with my current tablet ( tab2) wich are both with cyano, so i can understand something
I cannot try it because if i flash something i want to be sure that it is compatible with my phone, i wouldn't brick it
Sorry for the bad english xD

@Alecotro Before flashing that ROM you must upgrade your modem to cnh5. Links for that modem are on the ROM's thread.
When u download that modem file extract it and flash it with ODIN as PDA / AP. Repeat and verify if your modem changed. Check baseband in settings>about phone for confirmation. Once u are done upgrading the modem u can flash the ROM via custom recovery.
Without modem u will face connectivity issues and force closes. I am using that ROM and it is perfect.

Thank you very much! Will the different modem have problem italian carrier like wind (don't know if you know it)? Cause with my s advance i always had the same baseband whatever the rom i flashed...
And, in the future, if I flash something like cyano, will i have to switch back to my old modem?

No CM is independent from your modem.

If I flash a firmware different from the ITV one, will it be different with signal of Italian carriers?

[Q] How to 'debrand' the SGH M919?

Hi!
I got a SGH M919 (T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4) and I just can not find a stock Samsung ROM for it.
How do I debrand it and bring it to a non-branded version of ROM? I don't prefer custom ROMs so, is there any stock Samsung ROM out there which I can flash on this to get rid of the T-Mobile branding and all its apps?
p.s. I am not sure if this question has been raised before because I browsed through the forums but could not get an answer.
Short answer, yes. You could flash the international I9505 firmware. Just make sure modem and kernel is that of tmobile.
Yes the question have been raised before.

Hey, thanks a lot for the reply!
3 questions:
1. Wont flashing the i9505 firmware brick my phone?
2. How do I use tmobile kernel and modem? Im an uber noob at this so dont know how to do this. Is there any thread on this topic?
3. I have currently unlocked my phone to work on non-T Mobile network with help of a thread I found on xda. Will flashing firmware for i9505 make it locked on tmobile again?

1) i9505 has the same hardware as the m919 so flashing the firmwares won't brick your phone. The radios, modems, etc, those are all different, which is why you need to flash a T-Mobile kernel after you're done flashing the i9505 firmware.
2) You are already on the MK2 modem/bb. You can flash one of the MANY kernels available. Check here and look for the threads that have the [KERNEL] tag in it. Simply download one of them to your phone, go into recovery, click on "Install zip from sdcard" and click on the file you downloaded. Most of the threads have instructions on how to do it if you're not too comfortable.
3) No, unlock is not firmware based. Flash any roms you want, just make sure you flash a tmo kernel afterwards.
Good luck and hope that helps.
Worth noting; whatever ROM you decide to flash, make sure you use a custom recovery to flash and not Odin. The Odin images for other carriers will likely brick the device because they come with the modem, radio, etc.

Thanks a lot! Will make sure of that. Just for my knowledge: I downloaded a carrier-free ROM from samfirmware (I9505XXUEMKF_I9505AUTEML1_AUT - Switzerland) and was going to most likely use CWM to flash it on my cell - will I have an option while flashing to not flash the modem, radio, etc.? Or when I flash, the modem and radio etc. will not be getting flashed automatically? (this might be a dumb question so please bear with me!)

You won't have to worry about it if you're installing the ROM by itself. It won't be affected. As long as you just install a Tmo kernel and the ROM of your choice, you'll be good. The modem and etc are separate unless for some god awful reason the Dev decided to throw it all into one zip. I have never seen this nor do I think it even exists. When installing the ROM you won't have to worry about the modem. Dude, just make sure to do a backup and you'll be fine. Good luck

If the file ends with tar.md5 it's an Odin package and should be avoided. If it ends with .zip though it's CWM-flashable and, speaking for XDA's ROMs, won't include modem, baseband, bootloader, etc.

I actually prefer stock samsung ROMs over customs ROMs so I downloaded the one I mentioned from samfirware.
Now as for flashing a T-Mobile kernel is concerned, I was going through the kernels on xda and they all seem to be custom with tweaks done to the hardware clocks, etc. Is it possible to flash a 'stock' T-Mobile kernel on the 4.3?
Btw, I am not able to flash the stock ROM (in .zip format) that I downloaded from samfirware using CWM. It gives me this error: "Installing update... Installation aborted." How do I flash a stock ROM downloaded from samfirmware (using CWM)? I am being advised not to use ODIN (due modem etc issues), so what do i do? I reiterate, i don't prefer the custom ROMs.

Samfirmware downloads are in zip format and you have to extract them to get the .tar.md5 file. That .tar.md5 file HAS to be done through Odin. You can't use those in CWM. The CWM ones are the ones you find on these forums.

The point I'm trying to get across is to not use Odin to flash anything that's not specifically meant for your device. It looks like he's trying to use the stock Odin-flashable firmwares for the i9505 which would be bad... Any of the CWM-flashable ROMs in the i9505 (not i9500) are good to go.

You are absolutely correct. I don't think he understands the difference between the two... :crying:
Um, guys, my question still seems to be unanswered: since samfirmware roms are not cwm flashable, WHERE do i find non-odin flashable stock rom? Is it even possible? I downloaded samfirmware stock rom because of the very first reply to my thread which mentioned it.
And my second question: is there a stock t mobile kernel i can use instead of the custom 'tweaked' ones?
Forget about the firmware you downloaded from sammobile it will brick your device go to the i9505 section here in XDA and download one from there and then flash it in CWM then the Tmo kernel and your done.

[Q] I9192 stuck on Baseband Version XXUAMF7

I got my S4 Mini I9192 in December, but I can't remember the version it came with. Immediately after getting the phone, I updated to XXUAMF7, and rooted the phone using the tutorial by cheatman, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368561
Everything was fine, but trying to find some info on the possible culprit for the battery standby drain, I found somewhere that it could be a problem with the Russian region UAMF7 rom. So, I downloaded, and installed the Indian DDUAMJ2 rom, rooting using arco68's files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494435, but didn't have wifi, so I then flashed MJNazari's kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2431953.
Now everything's fine, wifi works, still don't know about the battery drain, but information in the "About device" worries me.
The build number is fine, JDQ39.I9192DDUAMJ2, but the Baseband version is still showing I9192XXUAMF7 !?
Is this normal, and have I messed something up somewhere?
Can anybody who's upgraded from rooted XXUAMF7 to anything newer tell me what their "About device" says?

Modem did not upgrade
Either flash whole rom AGAIN or only flash modem
This happens when u have "Custom" status in download mode.
U can extract modem from stock MJ2 rom tar and md5 it and reflash it
Here is the modem i extracted from MJ2 flash it with Odin CP option
I9192DDUAMJ2_Modem.tar.md5 37.2 MB

Thank you very much!
I had tried flashing the entire ROM twice, even did a factory reset, wiping the whole lot of everything I had on the device
BTW, on a technical note, where does that "Custom" status come from? Rootkit? Kernel?

Well, depends
For example if u take a stock rom from sammobile , unpack it and delete bootloader stuff when u`ll flash it status will go "custom" even if u did not modify other stuff
If u flash a custom kernel / recovery status will go custom
If u delete some "bloat" status will become custom
Many things will trigger that status
Good part is , u can come back to official if u flash a stock unmodified rom from sammobile and factory reset your phone after
Take care, sometimes u must flash it twice or more because modem does not get flashed
Btw, u are lucky u still don`t have Knox bootloader do not flash a stock rom from sammobile that ends with MK4 MK5 ML1 ML2 ML4 NA2 etc without modifying and deleting Knox bootloader
Thanks a lot for the info! The Custom status was then probably caused by installing CWM and removing all of Samsung's apps after rooting...

Upgrading SGH-T999 from 4.1.2 to 4.3 advice

SpellingHello,
I rooted my 4.1.2 SGH-T999 by CWM , then unlocked it by downgrading the modem , unlocking and then upgrading to 4.1.2 .
When I checked for OTA updates the phone says" my device has been modified. software updates are not available. "
How can I get back the option of getting the OTA updates? If so, will I lose root? And also while I am on 4.1.2 is there any things else I can do that are simpler to do than when on 4.3?
Thank you.
May I suggest first reading up on the serious issues caused by accepting OTA updates. If you still really wish to go down that path, then use Odin to go back to stock before accepting OTA.
Flash the stockmod rom.

I guess since the phone is out of warranty and kind of old, it probably won't get that many updates in the future. In that case, I can leave everything as is.
With the configuration I have now: Unlocked at 4.1.2 , CWM 5.5.0.4, how do I update the phone to the latest one available on this site? Do I use odin ( PDA and which flags ) , or load it in SD card and run it from recovery? Doing either one, do I lose root or not, and how to get it rooted again, same way I did it the first time.?
Thank you guys for your assistance , this is the first time ever I am making changes to a phone.
StockMod Rom comes as a Zip. Put it on SD card and Flash via CWM. That's not CWM's latest version.
So if you keep getting errors (Status 7) while trying to flash, then you will need to update CWM.
Latest is 6.0.4.5 over here. Alternately, get Rom Manager to update as well.

Would I lose unlocked if I flash the modem and use Stockmod or Stockmod Custom ROMs?
Do these ROMs come with WiFi tethering?
I am slowly learning, Installed ROM manager from AP store, and updated the CWM to the latest..
I have to flash the modem first, should I reboot then Flash Stockmod or do both one after the other?
Thanks.
I believe StockMod will support WiFi Calling. You will have to try and find out. As to the Modem, you can flash both one after the other and that's fine. When it comes to modems, I personally reboot after a modem flash to see how the signal is like.
Sometimes, some of the modem don't work well in my geographical area. If the modem is a precursor to the Rom, then I'd flash the modem, then check and then flash the rom. After Rom is up and running, I may go back to original modem.

The reason I asked is because on the development page where the Stockmod is , it says to " Flash T999UVUEMJC Modem
Flash ROM , Reboot and Enjoy "
My other question was about sim unlocked. I downgraded modem, did the unlocked routine, upgraded back to 4.1.2 modem. Now if I flash modem and ROM, would the SIM Unlocked status stay or I have to unlock all over. The whole reason I got here was to unlock and root for WiFi hotspot.
Thank you again for walking me through this.
The phone will stay unlocked despite change of modem or Rom. You can try flashing the rom directly without the modem. I don't think there may be issues. Of course you can flash modem if it didn't work. Put the modem on your external sd when you download Rom.

IMEI Null/Null, Baseband Unknown

I've researched all day on this, flashed stock rom and recovery again, and nothing. Phone is out of warranty obviously.
My IMEI is showing null/null and the baseband is unknown. I've flashed stock, rooted, tried restoring the efs folder, and nothing has worked. Phone worked just fine yesterday/this morning. Any suggestions?
In my efs folder, there is no NV_DATA.BIN file either.
Any help? TIA.
1) download just the modem from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2252932

3) copy zip over (do not un zip)

What bootloader is on your phone? Flashing the a modem onto your phone that is not compatible with your bootloader can brick your phone. For example, flashing a 4.4.2 modem onto a 4.3 bootloader will hard brick your phone.

I'm on the 4.3 bootloader and 4.3 Stock ROM.
Do you have a mjb modem on your phone?
Yes, I do.
If the baseband is unknown, how do you know you have the mjb modem on your phone?
Maybe you need to re-flash the 4.3 mjb modem. If that doesn't resolve the issue, you could try injecting the imei using nvwriter.

What are you using to flash the modem? Which file are you flashing? Are you sure you are on a completely stock ROM with a stock dialler?

You flashed the 4.3 stock ROM via Odin? Where did you get the file? It must have been a custom compilation because AT&T never released 4.3 as a full ROM, only as an OTA.

baseband imei unknown - tried virtually every modem out there - help

Hi everyone,
I know this problem is well known and solved many times already, but I'm not being able to solve it by myself. This is why I'm posting this thread as a last resort to try and get some help, just in case i missed something..
My phone is currently with unknown baseband and IMEI on stock 4.4.2 flashed via kies recovery. If I try to flash any 4.4.4 port ROM the phone locks up seconds after boot, it will only work with stock rom. I already tried a few modems i found on another threads but no success.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Isn't that a bit pointless? Maybe I'm missing the point, but if I already have flashed latest firmwares from both sammobile and kies, it kind of makes the point that modem and bootloader files from sammobile don't solve the problem, right?
Thanks.

Well truly doesnt seem pointless
I got my baseband resolved (Previously showed 'Unknown') by flashing pure stock rom (got from SamMobile) THROUGH ODIN so might be there is a point.
Try stock rom flashing from odin as according to me stock rom has everything in it radio(Baseband),boot(efs), system, etc etc
The unknown baseband and imei can be due to a modem and bootloader mismatch.
To confirm the bootloader and modem on the phone, install the Samsung Phone Info app from the play store to confirm the version.
