Problem enabling Trace Input with ZVC update - Sprint LG G2

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but I have tried enabling Trace Input by editing the Build Prompt using Root Browser four times now, and all four times have resulted in the following two error pop-ups:
Unfortunately, com.android.systemui has stopped working. OK
Unfortunately, Home has stopped working. OK
Pressing OK gets me nowhere. It only brings back the same two messages instantly, making it impossible for me to do ANYTHING. It's a stock rooted OTA ZVC, so there's no custom recovery nor ROMs to flash even if I had a custom recovery. Two out of the four times, I had to use the LG Flash Tool and flash the ZV7 and 8 tot files and kept installing the OTAs until I was back to ZVC. The other two times, I flashed the ZVC files. Of course, regardless of what you flash, you're losing EVERYTHING on your phone — music, movies, pics, texts, call logs, apps, etc. Reinstalling tons of apps and using the USB to transfer tons of pics, movies, and music takes FOREVER to do, so I was wondering if any of you were having this same issue. If so, how do I resolve it?
P.S. I usually tether my data to my computer, but right now I'm using my little sister's wifi hotspot. Sprint is upgrading the towers on my area, so not only is there no LTE available right now, but the download speeds are terribly slow. I'm downloading the ZVC tot now, and it's 0.6/2.1 GB with 10 hours left to complete. I'm hoping someone can/will provide me with a fix before then to save me the trouble of starting fresh all over again.

I'm sorry, with those 2 errors kind of hard to do anything on the phone. I would say I could send you a build prop, but without getting into a recovery or without the errors won't do any good.
If you can use
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
The auto-rec program. It keeps download, down grades aboot, gives you recovery.
I do apologize if I don't remember but if you are one of the few unlucky with white line syndrome on the phone after a recovery is installed.
Cloudyfa has the fix linked on the first page also.
Which will make it like you didn't just try to put recovery on.

The app you used to edit may have truncated the build.prop, I know rootexplorer says its too big and truncates in a warning message, do it on computer and overwrite or use a separate build.prop editor. Check permissions on modified build.prop which should be rw-r-r. I have done this on both my G2s with no problems.

Abhinav.tella nailed it. I use Rom Toolbox lite, just as I show in my thread. Works like a charm on ZVC. Also, you can just flash a ZVC TOT if you had to. You don't need to flash all the way back using an old TOT file and work your way to current.

I guess I can try that. My only gripe is that if it doesn't work, I'll have to tot back and have no files or anything on my phone again. That is a hassle and it really sucks having to reroot and install all my apps and stuff again.

[Q] Soft Brick,TWRPvsClockwork-Avoiding same mistakes

Dodged a bullet yesterday. FreeGee unlock, chose TWRP and then went to flash stock v9 odex. Wiped Cache/Dalvick and then flashed. Upon reboot I saw LG screen then black and nothing. Tried to LGPNST from download mode with LG driver and could not detect phone. After messing around in TWRP for about 2 hours where I performed about every function available (just before throwing the phone into the fireplace), I queued the z9 odex twice let TWRP flash it twice and everything worked. Here's the thing, my wife's phone is incessantly prompting to update, so I need to flash her phone. Should I use clockwork? Anyway to avoid a similar issue and near total bricking of her phone?
Same thing using Clockwork on wife's phone. Now I'm trying everything to get it back. Still have recovery, but unable to complete system reboot. Black screen. Used to flash evo all the time, never an issue. Now I'm 0 for 2 with a miraculous boot and update on my phone. This one doesn't look like I'm going to get as lucky. CWM is a bigger pain too. Frustrated. Not looking forward to lgpnst (still not sure how it all works) and then trying this mess again.
I had a similar problem to yours last night to. Except I didn't really do anything to it. It was just sitting there charging and I took it off the charger and it was doing some kind of boot loop, But every so often it would just stop on a black screen. I lgnpst about six times back but after running root and freegee I would try to get into bootloader and it would do it again. Eventually I tried doing freegee with clockwork instead and it did it again, Than I forced the phone off and pluged it in to my computer to get ready to lgnpst again so I could at least use the phone. All of a sudden I look at the screen and there was a battery charging animation. And then unpluged it and for kicks turned it on and it booted up no problem. Then I tried booting into bootloader and all works now. It was really strange, I did put twrp back though. I like it better then clockwork. I think I sore you asking questions in irc while I was in there asking question to ha.

I had the same thing happen and couldn't figure it out so I took it back to sprint told them I did the update and it messed up so they gave me a new phone for 35 bucks and from now on im staying STOCK.........................
DId you try to lgnpst back yet? That may help you.
-Frank
Frank...yup that's how mine worked. Just not sure how to do this. I don't think my failed lgpnst attempts did anything, b/c mine took the update eventually. I'll keep trying. This phone is so temperamental. Does Shellnut have some input on this problem? I can't figure out why some phones take and others don't when doing the same thing.
Talk to Shelnut2 over pm or find him in irc. I just found out there is a special version of freegee that may fix the problem. I seem to have fixed mine but I sent him a pm asking some questions about the problem. I think you are going to need to lgnpst back. Then root and run the special version of freegee. You have to get it from him because it does some things different that may brick the phone permanently. Thats why you have to ask for it. From what I understand it fixes that kind of problem.
-Frank
I will. I'm going to see if this thing will self correct. Otherwise I will check with him on that. The LGPNST is something I'm not looking fwd to doing.
LGPNST is not detecting phone in dl mode but does detect when in recovery. This SUCKS. Frustrated and out of ideas.
When you installed lgnpst did you install the file that says auto-lgnpst? Also did you run install.bat as administrator?

I've been working on mine for a day and a half. I can't figure out the thing with renaming the ".tot" file to ".bin" because I don't even see a .tot file. After I unzipped the big ZV7 there was only one file without an extension so I can't figure out if thats the one I'm supposed to rename. Can you point me in the right direction?:crying:
[ I figured it out, I had to go into Preferences on my file explorer and set it to show all file types...DUHHH ]
In Windows, go to control panel, file settings, show file extensions. Something like that.

Always backup your phone before tinkering with system files, and experimenting with launchers, kernals etc.
Titanium backup in WORTH the investment to upgrade to PRO.
Rom manager is a good one to boot directly into recovery without fiddling in the fastboot menu. And for backing up settings and roms.
Always KNOW what your doing. lol. sometimes even the big guys forget this. RESEARCH!

[Q] Newbie questions

Hi all.
My first post here and a couple of questions.
Per instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195283 , I was able to root my phone using TWRP and odin.
The phone works fine but many of the apps are missing (maps, youtube etc). I was able to download the maps 6.14 apk and install it, but the gps takes forever to lock now. Is there a s2 specific app that was somehow wiped out by the rooting process?
Also, the stock browser is set to full screen, but when typing in the address, the address bars flickers on and off and I can only see the google search suggestions untill I press the keyboard again. Im using stock samsung keyboard.
Don't know if it's normal, but the phone doesn't pull my contacs from the sim card before or after root. I used to have HTC Mytouch from T-mobile and the names and phone numbers all came up as soon as I insterted the sim card into that phone when I bought it 2 years ago.
Thank you.
Sorry forgot to add.
The phone is ( was?) stock JB 4.1.2 (t-mobile) and the only thing I did was root it.
The only thing I can think of is to re flash the stock ROM in Odin. Then redo installing recovery. I followed roughly the path to root you described and didn't have any problems.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Do you know if the settings and data will be wiped out if I try to reinstall ? I dont have a spare phone I would hate to lose the apps and the texts and etc.
Well, if you have twrp, install it first and make a backup that INCLUDES the preload partition as well as data, system, cache, etc. Then you don't need to worry. But odining stock job over stock job should be harmless since it won't overwrite data -- just be sure repartition isn't checked

Well, unrooted, rerooted, wiped clean, reinstalled stock 4.1.2 and nothing ...
The gps is crap with all the .conf files tried. And no matter what, once I install SU , the damn apps disappear after reboot. Plus considering that it's a 1.5mhz processor, its slower than my old HTS 1.2mhz Mytouch and even 1mhz ZTE warp. Probably gonna send it back. Too bad, since I like the screen a lot.
You're missing apps can be redownloaded from the play store. As for your GPS problem, download and follow the instructions to install AGPS from this thread and you should be fine.

Thanks , but I already tried that.
As for the apps, it's really not a big deals, but the fact that the SU app makes them disappear is a bit of a concern. , plus the fact that gps works like crap even after the patch and several new gps.conf files , make this phone an overpriced and kinda overhyped toy. Frankly one shouldnt be looking at patches and fixes on a phone this "good". If an old ZTE and Htc work without a hitch, then this thing is about $150 too expensive for what it is.
And for the life of I cant understand why wouldnt sucksung put a damn led light on the case to alert the user of missed calls or texts instead of us having to resort to the nolite and such..
Thank you for all the help though).Thank you though for the help.

Appreciate the advice.
But Ive done that already. The gps ,when it does finally lock, takes forever. Regardless of the .conf files. And no matter what, after SU gets installed and the phones is restarted some apps are simply gone.
Instead of stock ROM I would give you the suggestion of trying out cyanogen mod since imo its actually much better everything wise over stock ROM

WIFI not working...

Can someone pls tell me why my Wifi is not working. I FLASHED the Synergy latest ROM and now I can't connect to wifi..I tried in other spots and it still tries but will not connect...help.. it gives me an "Saved"or "unable to authenticate error"...this happens anywhere that I try to connect to Wifi...and I actually have to turn WIFI off in order to download data from a file....any suggestions???
Did you chdck the md5 before flashing? Also did you clean flash the rom? One last thing, did you restore any system apps using titanium backup? Any of these three things can cause lots of headaches.

I did not chk the md5..don't really understand what to do with that...I did a clean install and didn't restore apps from Titanium backup...
What do I look for in the md5 and what actually do I do with it..do I install like I am installing a custom ROM???
Usuall the websiye you download the rom from has an md5 or the original post(op) of the thread you got it from has it. It looks like just a bunch of random letters and numbers. Thr way you check the md5 of your file is to go to the playstore and download md5 checker. Also file explorers like root explorer have it. I find it easier though to use the md5 checker app. You open it and it has a box that says load file. You navigate the program to the file( your synergy rom) then you click the select file. It will calculate the md5. Then you just make sure that md5 matches the md5 on the page or thread.

I basically have the same issue for the international version.
This was my first time installing a custom rom, used the 'cm-10.1-20130708-NIGHTLY-n7100.zip ' latest nightly build.
Anyway everything seems to work fine, but WiFi gets stuck on authenticating / obtaining IP address.
I did the MDR5 thing, and when I check it turns red.
I believe I had a similar issue once when I only rooted it. I fixed it by placing the right WiFi file on my phone. But I can't recall the name nor method.

Sorry nothing, not even a tiny hint in my mind. All I remember was I needed a file to fix it
Wait. I forgot something. I got a reply somewhere else telling the following:
'For your case go to the dial number screen and put *#0011# hit the menu then go to WiFi at the bottem. You will notice that the wifi is on eco mode, just get is disabled. There you go'.
I haven't tried it yet since I restored my phone to normal because I needed my WiFi working for apps and messaging.
Tell me if it works!:good:

I'm having the exact same problem, every time I try and flash an AOSP rom. Stock roms like All-Star and Whomp don't give me any issues, but paranoid, CM, anything along those lines at all, they all give me the same issue. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
Wanted to comment here again to a POSSIBLE fix. I backed up any internal files I needed to an outside source, then formatted my entire internal storage. Since then, I don't get the Authenticating/Obtaining IP issue as much. I sometimes have to turn the wifi off and back on just once if I restart my phone, but that's about it. Not sure if it'll work for anyone else, but it's helped me.

[Q] Can access CWM but cannot boot (Secure booting error)

Hi. I am encountering problems after installing this CWM-based Recovery v6.0.4.4
I admit, I am a noob regarding this.
Going back, the phone can access The CWM-based recovery by pressing the power button and volume up, can use menus, advanced menu,
I wiped the partition and cleared cache and dalvik cache but when you restart, screen stops at LG logo and (Secure booting error, Cause: boot certification verify) text is displayed.
I know I was unsure of everything and flashing androids are new to me especially on my device.
can I unlock the bootloader even with the CWM-based recovery alone?
Model name: F240S
android version. 4.4.2
I'm having a similar problem. I have CWM from Freegee on my phone.
Last night, when I was unable to flash either or two different roms, I decided to check for an OTA update. The phone downloaded it, and when it was finished, it went into looping into recovery. I then decided to factory reset, wipe data.. still phone goes back to recovery. Then I decided to just use the backup I had made earlier in CWM. Still stuck in recovery loop.
Anyone? Anyone?

I just did some more searching. I'm coming up with stuff like "install the lg flash tool" , "and if that doesn't work, install (If you cannot run LGFlashTool2014.exe, please install Visual C++ Runtime Library) - VC_RedistInstaller.exe - 47.7 Mb"

Seriously. Someone on this site needs to learn how to teach. I know that there are men here with IQs in the upper range of 140 plus.. but they can't teach. sad sad sad.
I've been going at this for so long now. My computer is littered with downloaded files. And then the phone I had before this it was like, hmmm, I'll flash a cyanogenmod rom because they under stand the common man. WRONG. Their mods suck battery life more than stock roms. Okay, I'll flash Carbon rom... not any better, devs have purposely darkened the screen to make it look like battery life is better.. I tried rom after rom after rom. They all have problems. NOt just minor problems either.

I have an e980 and this method had been flawless multiple times. As far as battery life, that all depends on 100 different things, but I always flash madmack's modem, then wipe cache and dalvik. Deep sleep is pretty much guaranteed after that.

Your dramatized posts between threads show you are having a hard time. A person does not need a degree to flash, just the patience to read a lot on a forum like xda regarding their phone and android in general.
People only notice something like battery life on a given rom due to the presence of other options they can compare it to. Apple, for example, is just one thing. One ios iteration having a better something over the other is irrelevant as there is nothing to apply degrees of comparison to. Then, hardware variety, etc.
Some of the points you are upset about in the process of flashing could be resolved by a google search or xda forum search.

Well I finally got it working.
What one has to do to get roms flashed is to use madmacks's term. And when you're on recovery mode, you must toggle Loki support to disabled or the install of the new Rom will abort.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

The problem here at xda is that many of the developers are so smart that they are unable to articulate down to us regular people.

I have another problem. my phone just got no signal and says "Service disabled". on the notification bar it just loads and says "Searching for networks". it never found any networks. I switched the same SIM to another phone and it has a signal. the problem happened after I edited the build.prop and changed the ro.build.local from "KR" to "US" just to remove the dual clock from the lockscreen (because F240 has a dual clock which is non-removable except if you use the sqlite editor but that method did not work for me. the editor closes and says "*programname* has closed unexpectedly").
I made a factory reset and still there is no signal. I'm using stock kitkat firmware from LG and not rooted. can you help me with this one?
Thanks
Have you checked your apn settings?
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
No, I don't have APNs listed.
but, I was able to install sphinx rom and now the phone always says "unfortunately, com.android.keyguard has stopped" and the phone app was gone, APN settings also gone, call logs gone,
For a short while, I didn't think I had apn's listed but I was not looking in the right place.

Probably no baseband or null baseband, my suggestion, flash stock through flashtool, if you have free gees made an efs folder you can always restore that too, but i think flashing stock would solve the baseband problem, if that doesnt, there is an online flashing method, that can help

I don't know about the flash stock through flashtool. I use mobile support tool which I did last night and it was a success. "com.android.phone has closed unexpectedly" or something like that does not appear now on SETTINGS>Tethering & Networks>Mobile Networks OR T Roaming>Select roaming network. because before I'm encountering if I go there.
one last thing is that everything is now stock but still I don't get the signal. unlike before. the signal goes back automatically.
about basebands, I do have a baseband. same as before and I still have my IMEI intact.
That is strange, there is a thread of hyelton, in general section, get the lg flash tool from there, and try to flash the appropriate tot file, if you flash the tot or kdz file for other model, this might result in loss of network

Flash Rom using Normal instead of CSE? Next time either read more threads or use a proper editor or even better: a pc to edit build.prop.
Otherwise you can try to adb push original build.prop to your phone but flashing Rom is much easier imho.

i wanted to try and flash a build.prop but dont know how. ive already tried flashing kdz file but didnt work out. actually im not new to this as ive been rooting my phone since s2 days, even when i bought this amazing phone i rooted it right away. but after i update it to 10i, i tried rooting back which worked fine, however when i tried editing the build.prop thsts where this problem comes out.

You didn't set the permissions right for the prop file, that's why it's stuck in a bootloop.
Permissions are suppose to be rw r r.
Also, modifying via 920 Text Editor or via your PC, then load it back into the phone.
Could be the editor used did not handle the whole very large build.prop file and truncated when you saved it.

Read it. You might get Download Fail can not restart to download mode a few times. Keep trying, use different usb ports restart computer, try again, restart phone to download mode. I must have got that message 50 times then all of a sudden it worked. Its a pain but see how it goes. There is another way but it is a pain and involves lots of setup.
Check post 202-203:
without flash back after bootloop. (for next time)
