Did a search and didn't see anything that seemed overly relevant, so giving up and starting a thread
I got a 10.1 (SM-T520) earlier this week to serve as my personal travel computer (since my company is tightening up restrictions and monitoring on work laptops). I want to root it and get rid of all the crapware, but was busy hunting for an easy way to do that since I haven't done a root/custom ROM previously. I did find the list of bloatware apps to remove in another thread, but the ROM seemed like a faster/cleaner option, plus it would let me learn more.
I found the CleanRom option by scrosler, which seemed pretty ideal, was going to pair with a Nova Launcher. However in reading the thread it was noted here that 10.1 devices weren't supported. However this post seems to contradict that. Is there a definitive answer on whether it will work or not. I'll go try it if it's likely to work, just don't want to brick the thing.
Thanks in advance.
Shame there are no roms for the 10.1... I'm really keen to root my 10.1 and have a slimmed down Android experience.

Root and freeze/uninstall bloatware with Titanium Backup. Install Nova to replace TouchWiz. Tablet flies with stock ROM. Then patiently wait for custom ROMs, which will no doubt appear eventually.

I believe Scrosler has already advised CleanRom isnt supported for the 10.1
That being said, I would happily put money towards a rom bounty or similar to "persuade" him to support the 10.1

Given that 8.4 and 10.1 don't even share CPU architecture, I doubt any 8.4 ROM would be adapted to support 10.1 devices. XDA bunched together very different tablets into the same forum and everyone is confused as the result. I've got bunch of 'helpful' advices from 8.4 owners who dominate these forums.

I meant persuade him to develop a specific rom for the 10.1, not add 10.1 support in the 8.4 rom he's already developed.
If we can get a bounty together, he might consider it if he has time/inclination.
keep in mind qualcomm vs exynos

Anyone know of a great "Guide to the Note 2", NOT just a guide to rooting, but the whole shebang?
I'm no noob, with just about 2 years on my (launch day) HTC EVO 4G (OG4G), including some modding and dev-ing.
I was a very proud MYN-ion...using mostly Myn's Warm or Synergy, and getting friendly with the entire community while developing skills I was proud of. BUT, it's been a while since I really did any serious stuff and I finally got a new Galaxy Note II.
I already rooted, and put TWRP 2501 on it, and have tricked out my stock ROM a bit, but when I went to install DTA2SD I discovered this phablet has a completely different file structure. So now I'm feeling a bit lost and want to know EVERYTHING about this phone so I can get up to speed as on the OG4G.
So, I repeat, Anyone know of a great "Guide to the Note 2", NOT just a guide to rooting, but the whole shebang?
Thanks for your help.
WackyDroid
don't know of a guide, but sounds like you want to look into dev subforum, which is in the international variant.
yes, how storage is setup on the GN2 is different. Its the same as the S3, and I assume S4. I believe it has to do with profiles in Android. I believe there may be script to use to get App2Sd to work. Otherwise, you need to use something like FolderMount or DirectoryBind. I know there is another script where you can tell the phone the internal storage is the SD card and the extermnal memory is internal storage.

Thanks very much, but I'm still looking for a good, comprehensive Guide to the entire phone.
There are SO MANY things about this phone that are not in the manual, or anything I can find from traditional sources online... The manual hardly even touches on the S-Pen, and from what I've read it's capabilities are impressive.
So far, after rooting and putting on TWRP 2501, I've been able to build a very usable phone simply building on the stock ROM. Before I try any Custom ROMs, I REALLY want to know ALL the phone's abilities...
Check this out.

Awesome, Wiley, thanks.... I usually don't like videos as they're dependent on the "narrator's" personality/talents, but these are prolific so I'll have to check them out.
I would still like a "User's Guide" or a "Tips and Tricks" manual assembled by (hopefully) XDA Members. On the EVO 4G, we had such an immense, awesome community of "Myn-ions" (revolving around the Developer MYN who wrote the 2 best ROMs - Warm and Synergy) there were a few of those, in addition to the MOST resourceful community one could hope for. There was never a single thing you couldn't learn from someone and the exchange of ideas and information was a constant thing.
I learned how to theme, develop ROMs, tweak, etc from them all while usually laughing my ass off...
I'm hoping, since the Note 2 is so popular, I'll find that "community spirit" in this group!
it'll be popular, but I think the S3 or S4 series will be more. It's cheaper. Luckily, there are quite a few similarities, so you can definitely learn a few new ideas
As a side note, I think you probably have a solid ground work. Sounds to me you need to learn more about Touchwiz if you're going to build from the stock rom. I don't think Samsung has released anything much on the Spen to be able port more of it's functions into an AOSP. There is the SDK for it, but I assume it's Touchwiz based. It's possible the feature beyond the the basic touch commands could be built into the framework.

Congrats on your new toy! After 6 months with mine I haven't seen anything else that interests me.
I find calling Sammy or googling your questions get the quickest results.
I was so beyond elated when I got my Galaxy Note 8 (N5110) last night... couldn't want to flash this puppy and ROM it with some Cyanogen loveliness; but to my incredible surprise, I can't find any custom ROMs that don't have the Touch Wiz crap on it. WTH? This tablet was highly rated and I know it's not abscure so I'm wondering why there's so little development on this little wonderous machine. Ideas? Links that I've missed? Winning lottery numbers? All are welcome.
instead of asking what are others plan on doibg for your tablet wouldn't it be morw productive to ask and learn how to do it yourself?
it seems rather rude to ask for someone else to donate their free time with no compensation.

There's already a few threads like this, so not sure there's a point to another one. Either way, there is CivX custom rom and kernel, but yes it's based on stock TW. Emwno is working on a cm10.1 port too, and beanstown was supposed to develop a custom rom but that has now been delayed. Hopefully he will do it though at some point in the future. Aside from that not many devs seem to have the device which is a shame because the Note 8 rocks.
nothing more annoying on XDA then someone complaining about the lack of free software...quick whining, and learn how to do it yourself, so you can spend endless hours of YOUR personal life creating something that people can post complaints about, request things that you dont put in the rom, and just generally expect you to spend all of your free time upgrading, and improving for them every time they want something..
I agree with you it does rock. Just xame from a Lenovo A2109 where there was a LARGE dev community but no support for Mac users. Thought for sure there would be a crap load of devs here given the Samsung brand and its answer to the iPad mini. Personally, I think its much getter then the mini even though I'm a Mac girl... note: not an Apple fangirl... just a best in class user.
Anyway, thanks for telling me what to look for and which developers to keep and eye out for. Its painful to read post after post and subsequently page after page trying to find answers to my questions. I do appreciate it.

For every ROM that has worked for me, I have donated monetarily. For one device, I actually BOUGHT a unit for development. I've been on this board for several years and have never asked for anything except answers to my questions.
Second of all, I'm a web designer/developer who donates LOTS of time to those who don't know or ask for help. I don't ask for compensation; I ask for them to carry the info forward. It seems rather rude for you to assume and judge rather then ask.

"puzzlement"? what are you puzzled about?
You've been a member here for SIX years; you know where the dev section is in this thread; the roms that are there are what we have at this point..
dont try to "veil" your complaint about so "little development" by saying you weren't complaining, just "asking a question"
We lose enough fantastic developers here when people start threads like this, so please don't encourage the few folks that are dev'ing for this device to leave as well..

I am sure she knows where is the place to find a custom rom although she doesn't mean this.
So if there is nothing constructive to add in this thread then just don't post.

maybe I just misread your enthusiasm for the new tablet as cracking the whip on those hard working guys who do what thwy do and ask for norhing back. so If I mistook you excitement as a demand then I apologize.
the gnote 10.1 took a good while to get some dev work on it. for a good while all we had was root, which really wasn't bad at all. It's still not as active as say the s4 or gn2 development, but it still looks like qualiry work. I'd suppose it wouldn't be too hard to port a rom over, but then again what do I know, I ain't no dev.

I was under the impression you have to keep a lot of the Touch Wiz to keep the pen enabled. Otherwise it's just a generic 8" android tablet.

I was very pleased that rooting was so easy. I had to unlock the bootloader in the HTC was a flippin' pain in the arse so I was THRILLED to learn we didn't have to do that on the Samsung. So, clearly I'm very glad to have root... and have deleted a lot of the Samsung crapware as I'm sure most of us have as well. Though I do have to ask... what is a "gnote"? I had a GTab once which was actually the Viewsonic GTablet. However, I've never heard of the GNote...
I'm not a software/hardware dev either... just web... and so wish I had time to learn. I'd be all over it like a gnat on poop!

yep, pretty much all samsung devices, except for the nexuses and the s4 developer ed have touch wiz. the big downside of using cm or aokp is that you'll lose pressure sensitivity with your pen (or at least that's how it was a few months ago and i haven't really check up on it).
I think its fine the way it is....

Always research a phone before you get one, as some receive more dev support than others. The edge variants also probably won't see much. You don't really get samsung phones to get cm these days.

I would love to develop but I would have a lot to learn. Maybe someone will trade me for a Nexus 6. I would be happy with root and a custom recovery but I can't even get that working, recovery won't load it just hangs every time.
At present there are obstacles to tackle as far as development is concerned and when that is sorted out you will see some development.
Or maybe Samsung is aiming for a different user crowd, like the type that get a high end phone that works all the time, without apps fc' or freezing displays and they don't have to reboot it several times a day or nandroid back because they can't hear or be heard by callers.
I'm totally happy and satisfied with this S6e the way it is, and Samsung has done a superb job putting this premium phone together.
Pp.
Regarding Aosp on GS6/E it's going to be a long time/never until we see aosp on the device, the reason development is non existent is because of Exynos, Samsungs SoC. Samsung refuses to give out it's source code for Exynos for obvious reasons and without it's source code, building aosp is no easy task. Some devs have built aosp for Samsung devices based on Exynos before but not fully working/stable ones. All in all, you'll be waiting a while.

Hey everyone.
Been awhile since I've been back here and I wasn't sure about all the new changes.
Couldn't find any information regarding the stock firmwares and if we are allowed to upload them here.
I'll Explain Further:
Stock Samsung firmwares used to be free to download at good speeds from samsung-updates (I think?), but now they go through download services that cost money unless you want to wait 8 hours for a slower download.
There were threads that listed all the stock firmwares bwfore and I was wondering if I could start a thread for downloading all the SM-P600 stock firmwares (and other Note 10.1" 2014 variations)?
Nice to be back and finally have a device I can play with. It's been YEARS :highfive:

Hi h311sdr0id,
i see you are a developer... If you say you wan't to play with that device, does that mean you have intention to build a custom rom or kernel for p600
This would be the best news since 6 month for p600 owners!
Though I'm not a fan of having to wait, it seems a fair comprimise. Typical "freemium" model. Slow is fine for occasional flashers, but the serious ones will want to pay. It costs to host/manage these updates so seems perfectly fair to me...

I am trying to get back into the realm of XDA and get used to how things are (before I had to take a little vacation). The last device I developed on was a Note 3/4..
I had a lot of people pretty pissed off at me for leaving when I did, but it wasn't my choice. So I need to re-clarify a few things with anyone looking for my first post in awhile:
Any insider information I had before this post was made here, is no longer something I can talk about. If you haven't had a chance to look around and read about what happened to me, you should. I am sorry for letting anyone down, but I had to choose my freedom over a device.
Plus, any information I had (including all of the work I had saved on my computers/devices) was taken from me. I have no access to any of it and I will never see it again.

So now that that's out of the way... Yes, I do plan on working on a ROM for the P600.
My work was usually geared towards ODEXED Stock Roms with all the fun stuff available that DEODEX had to offer. Many of the tweaks that were strictly available to DEODEX ROMs back then had to be reverse-coded to work with ODEX ROMs. I spent a lot of time dropping down ROMs from 1.2GB down to 250MB with add-on available. But I ran (and still run) these tiny ROMs on some of my other devices and they work great to this day.
I am working on a new Live AIO Distro (Debian/Ubuntu) for Android Development. That will continue to be my largest project. But I will be working on the P600 exclusively for a while. I just got one as a gift from another DEV.
If there's anything you are interested in specifically, please let me know. I will open a ROM Thread pretty soon to get some more ideas of what people are looking for.

I used to run my ROMs with weekly updates and fixes when they needed them. But for the most part, people didn't have many issues with my ROMs because I would spend a lot of time on them and test them thoroughly before releasing them. But I also kept to only a few devices at a time. Many big developers have many devices they're working on and so it's hard to spend too much time on one or two devices specifically. Only knew a few DEVs that really kept up on devices like hat back in the day.
But, no. I won't need money for anything. I have plenty of resources available to me that won't cost anyone anything. I do this as a hobby.
Thanks for that comprehensive statement. This are great news, because development for p600 was very poor during the last month...
I think the most important things for p600 we would like to have are:
- a stable stock kernel with permissive rights
- development support for cm 13, because many things doesn't work with it like camera, IR Blaster, Screen Mirroring and we have bad battery life. It also isn't compatible with LP 5.1.1 Bootloader (causing sound issues, random reboots etc.)
- A fast and debloatet stock rom with permissive rights, performance and batterylife optimizations
If you would be able to work on only one of these points, you would be a hero for most p600 owners
Any chance you would be willing to work on a sm-607t rom?
Im not cooking since windows mobile, but ill test.
I can also upload a backup of the stock rom to mega so you dont have to wait 8 hrs to download it.
Usually when a New J series is out, our community of great developers are all over it finding ways to root and making rooms. Since the J4 has been out for a few months there hasn't been any sort of news or updates. Are there any teams working on it?
I'm afraid that the possibility is slim, since the J4 is not widely released (do correct me if I'm wrong) in the US, UK, or other big-market countries, but rather released in smaller-market countries in Africa, Asia, etc, and even so released rather quietly w/out major press releases. So unless the phone is widely released (relative to other Galaxy phones out there), I'm inclined to believe that such teams would have little to no access to the J4, and thus no development to progress for it.
(Believe me, I'm remaining optimistic that at least an unofficial recovery might be on the works, but there won't be much progress unless the J4 is more widely used/picked-up)
Or, you can learn how to do it yourself.
Not the TWRP porting, but you can definitely MOD your stock ROM to add features Samsung annoyingly disable for not being a "premium" device.
You don't need to know much of coding, you can learn as you go. When the J2 Prime was released (and even to this day) there aren't any custom ROMs so I had to teach myself and I've accomplished great things
Just wait for TWRP and then the doors will open, you'll see

Huh, that's interesting; I'll surely take a look.
Could you further elaborate on the "features" that Samsung disabled? (I don't use a lot of Samsung G's built-in features, so I'm not too knowledgeable on such; tried Google-searching, only came up w/ disabling apps, so that didn't really help...)

For starters, things like edge screen or scroll capture (things that I use a heck of a lot)
I found it funny is that all it took as to change a bit of code here and there, add the right apps and edge screen was working perfectly on the J2 Prime (a very low-end phone).
Samsung went out of their way to delete this feature which is pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
Themes were also disabled for this device, but after reading a few guides I was able to implement a ROM control that allows the user to change the color to their liking
The dev community is always willing to lend a hand, just as long as you're not lazy and expect everything to be put out for you.
I feel the J4 can make a dev out of someone looking to add more functionality to their device (the J2 Prime made a dev out of me )
Ok, so the TWRPBuilder's experimental TWRP build (huge thanks to @yshalsager for this miracle) is on TWRPBuilder's site: twrpbuilder.github.io/downloads/twrp/

The J4 uses identical chipset as the J5 prime G570F/M/DS.
I have both and they are great phones for their segment.
Sadly neither are well supported by ROM developers, due to the Exynos chip, I think.

Yeah that's the 7-day "jail" I was talking about - theoretically you have to leave your phone on non-stop (no reboots, no shutdowns) for 7 whole days straight, then the OEM Unlock option should become available in Dev Settings (it's a confusing security measure by Samsung on Oreo devices)
any update guys? im really bored with this phone now
