I have recently flashed the virtuous affinity rom and I love it except for the fact that i have experienced several instances of the signal dropping out completely during a call and then coming back to full bars. would this be a radio issue or something different? I also have an issue with not being able to send mms messages. is there a fix to that?
thanks
Hey there.
Whenever I have signal issues...i do the following:
Wipe Fully - and format everything except SD Card.
Download RMK's OTA build...Stock. Easy to find on Virtuous Forums.
Also, find which Radio you would like to use. I use the newer radio and it works ok.
Install and boot - but dont set anything up - you wont need to.
Do A #228 and press 1. Reboot. Then do a #22899 and reboot.
Once done...you can go into your EPST functions if necessary to make any changes.
Otherwise, Download APN Backup & Restore. Once installed, backup your APN settings on your SD Card.
After all of this is said and done you will have the latest PRL updates and a proper MMS APN to use for your future ROM's.
Then you can flash whatever you want...but dont program your phone!
Once you have decided on a ROM that you like, install APN Backup and Restore again.
Make a nandroid backup.
Once done with nandroid, go ahead and delete the current APN and restore your offical APN from the SD Card.
This should work for you.
My Verizon GN is having difficulty connecting to my phone and data networks. It all started on the day of the outage this week. I assumed it would all fix itself, but it has not. I've snooped around the board quite a bit and it seems all other users have had their connections restored.
I first noticed the problem on Thursday morning. My data status in notification bar would drop to display no "bars." It does not switch over to 3G. I figured this problem would resolve itself once Verizon fixed its network.
Then I tried to send a text and it couldn't be sent. I tried to call someone and it would not dial out.
But these loss of connections are not persistent. Eventually, the 4G works for a bit then disconnects again.
The phone network seems to be doing this as well. Sometimes I can call/text, other times I can't.
I was considering wiping my phone and flashing a new ROM or getting the stock ROM from google to flash. However, I seem to be having trouble with clockwork mod. When I try to reboot into recovery mode it takes me to what I assume is download mode (shows an android knocked over on his side with, I think, a red X).
Is there something simple I can do to fix my data/phone network connection?
If I have to flash back to complete stock, then how do I do this without being able to access recovery?
If all else fails, will I be able to do a factory reset considering the current scenario? I assume I would need to do this before bringing it to Verizon for service.
I appreciate any help provided. Here are some other details that might help.
Rooted with stock ROM
4.0.2
Baseband I515.09 V.EK05 / I515.EK02
Kernel 3.0.8-gaaa2611
Build ICL53F
/edit/
I should have mentioned I had the most up-to-date version of CWM. I just reflashed it with ROM Mgr and it booted into recovery, so that's good.
Well ****. I went into CWM - Advanced - Fix Permissions. I thought hitting Fix Permissions would bring up another menu. Instead it fixed permissions. Hopefully I didn't do something stupid that I don't understand.
I flashed the GummyNex Rom hoping it was a kernel issue or an issue resolved by going from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3. It's been a little better it seems, but it did drop both networks once already and it's only been 15 minutes or so.
The new ROM definitely did not solve anything. I don't know what to do. I need to find a way to get back unrooted, unlocked, stock. Unfortunately, I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 which current SDK doesn't seem to support.
Running Oxygen 2.3.2 on a rooted and S-OFF HTC Desire (stock HBOOT), which I flashed tonight.
The WIFI appears to connect to my home network but the phone does not actually receive any internet access.
Prior to rooting I was using the WIFI without issues, and nothing has changed in the network since I rooted - my laptop is currently successsfully connected to the internet.
Security is WPA/WPA2, which I changed from WEP ages ago when a buggy tablet wouldn't connect and I was checking it wasn't the encryption that was causing the problem. the phone was connecting to the WPA/WPA2 succesfully. No proxy.
I've searched and haven't found anyone with this exact issue, so I'm not sure how to go about troublshooting.
- I didn't think flashing the Oxygen HBOOT listed on the alphadev site would solve this problem, so I haven't done that yet.
What's your radio version?

5.09.05.30_2 (stock radio).
Although I haven't checked since I flashed either cyanogen or Oxygen (WIFI wasn't working on cyanogen and I didn't like the ROM a whole lot anyways), but I don't think custom ROMs touch the radio - unless I'm mistaken?
You should definitively upgrade your radio version to the latest one - 5.17.05.23. You can find download link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464 The latest radio is highly recommended when using custom ROM, because they are usually tested with latest radio.

Okay, cheers, will do.
EDIT: Nevermind, after scrolling from 2010 to 2012 posts and across two forums, I found the answer (simplest response is on here for anyone interested -- essentially, the method listed is apparently a very old one, pre-recovery days. Just use recovery to flash the radio like you would with a ROM. No wipe needed, apparently.)
I'm assuming you've done this already?
If so, could you explain step 6 - where do I get the .bat script / modaco r5 root pack... Do I even need it since my phone is rooted and has recovery etc?
(I've read several people saying you "just flash it like you would flash a ROM", so I'm guessing that means loading the radio's .zip file onto my SD card and flashing from recovery like I would with a ROM?)
1. Turn your desire off
2. Hold the back button and turn your desire on
3. When you are at the white screen, make sure BOOTLOADER is selected and press the power button
4. Wait a few seconds then press volume down to select RECOVERY and press the power button again
5. When you are at the screen with the red triangle and the phone, plug in the usb cable
6. Run the recovery-windows.bat script from modaco r5 root pack
7. When the recovery menu appears select 'Flash zip from sdcard'
8. Select the radio zip file and press the trackerball to confirm
9. Press the trackerball over 'Reboot system now'
10. When the radio image has finished being written unplug the usb cable
11. The phone will reboot a couple of times and then return to a normal state with your new radio

The steps you found are probably outdated. It's really simple. Download latest radio and put it to the root of your SD card. Then you have to reboot to recovery (directly from running ROM or with volume down button pressed when powering up the device). Once you're in recovery, select update from zip (I don't know if you're using Clockworkmod or 4Ext) and choose zip file you downloaded before. Device should reboot and reflash the radio. That's all...
Does upgrading the radio influence the WIFI though?
I've been reading the radio-related post that lists the newest radios and there's a lot of talk about GPS and signal strength improving / worsening with radio changes, but haven't yet found anything relating to WIFI.

Yes it's related with WIFI too.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Ah crap
Just flashed the latest radio (5.17 etc) as I would with a ROM - yes I did a nand backup using Amon Ra.
Anyways, flashed it - told me it was doing its thing, asked me to restart system to allow it to finish etc, so I did.
It flashed to the HTC boot screen, then returned to Amon Ra recovery
Its now been about 5-10minutes and there's a msg saying:
Build: RA-desire-v2.0.1
Formatting CACHE:...
And that's it. Hasn't moved a bit since that screen and msg came back.
What can I do now? I can navigate the Amon Ra recovery menu, but I'm scared to reboot the system in case I brick my phone.... help please!

So I accidentally solved the problem when I accidentally hit hte trackball and confirmed the "reboot system now" option from the main menu.
Radio is upgraded successfully by the looks of it.
Unfortunately though, WIFI still doesn't work
You've gone through all the trouble of changing your radio. Did you ever bother to try other roms first?
You say that nothing has changed with your wifi connection but you are using a secured connection. Did you even tried a connection with your wifi unsecured and try to establish a connection with the phone?

If you're going to just get narky, then I'm not sure why you're posting, tbh.
Yes, I had used cyanogen 7 prior to oxygen and had the same problem.
And I only flashed oxygen on Monday night, so I don't have the luxury of running around finding unsecured wifi during my work days.
Having said that, a neighbour leaves unsecure wifi on late at night, and I can pick it up and managed to briefly connect to the net before the signal strength died., so yes I'm assuming I can connect to at least one unsecured network.
Which I guess means something's been changed in the scripts running in custom roms vs stock, which isn't helpful.
Well, could you confirm you have the latest radio now? I mean was the upgrade successful? Did you try to do nandroid backup, wipe device and test from scratch with fresh install?

I'm just suggesting things that ya'll may have overlooked. I've used CM and Oxygen and never had any issues with wifi may it be what type of security being implemented.
Well after playing around with my router's settings for ages, I finally made it work by changing the mode from "b/g/n mixed" to "b/g mixed". I was able to keep my WPA2 security on.
- Yep, radio was succesfully upgraded, even though it didn't appear to be.
I guess these custom ROMs do something to the WIFI component of the Desire because I was able to connect to the network with the b/g/n mixed mode in use before I flashed the custom ROMs.
This is annoying because it means I'll likely not be able to use any public WIFI hotspots that are set as b/g/n mixed...
Just to illustrate how tricky this can be. I had the same symptoms on my HTC Desire: Wifi connected OK to a b/g/n router but would not transfer any data through browsers, email, PlayStore, anything really.
Initially running Miui 2.4.9 and Wifi was OK.
Upgraded to Miui 2.4.13 but the ugrade did not complete successfully. The phone worked except that Wifi connected but didn't work.
Restored the phone with an earlier backup of MildWild CM-8.0 ROM which used to have working Wifi. Wifi still no good.
Flashed latest Radio 5.17.05.23. Wifi still no good.
Flashed earlier Radio 5.09.05.30. Wifi still no good.
Flashed full GB Miui 2.4.13 ROM. Wifi still no good.
Re-flashed latest Radio 5.17.05.23. Wifi works!!!! WTF?
I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix this. I NEED this fixed NOW. I appreciate any and all quick replies.
I just installed CM nightly for my phone (the d2lte). Everything went fine, but I now have no service but with full bars according to the pulldown menu. It shows up with full bars but in orange.
My IMEI checks out and I still have a baseband. I couldn't find any APNs in my list, but when I tried creating one and saving, it doesn't show up in the list. I tried this about 5 times and it did not ever show up in the list. I tried rebooting and I still cannot create an APN.
I have no idea what to do. I cannot make calls. I had it working. I tried to create a Nandroid backup before and my phone rebooted near the end and would not boot, so I had to install another CM. I believe it had an error about not having a SIM card in before.
Please, please, please, please help me ASAP. I need this fixed. I cannot sleep until it is fixed.
EDIT: Fixed it before I saw any replies. I needed to flash a modem.
Are you running the latest modem and bootloader? I believe the latest cm needs kk modem and bootloader.
Hi all,
After upgrading to Marshmallow, I've had many problems with Xposed. Flashing it seems to completely remove any mobile data/texting functionality. I've seen this on Stock GPE rom, Wolla GPE rom, S.Rom and Skydragon as well. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know a fix?
Thanks!
Suggestions
I'm not an expert but I'd probably try the following steps:
Ensure you're using the latest version of the xposed framework (v79, sdk 23 as of present)
Check APN settings before and after xposed install for any noticeable changes
Flash the latest radio file (you can find radio files here)
You've been clean flashing (wiping data, cache .etc) all these roms right?
Keep me posted

I have flashed v79, sdk23. After flashing Xposed, APN settings completely disappears from the settings app (pretty noticeable I guess ). Also get a "Service not available" toast when I toggle Mobile Data. Pretty sure I have the latest radio. I took the newest Lollipop OTA from T-Mobile before unlocking bootloader/flashing custom rom.
Interestingly, when I tried to dirty flash the rom after Xposed broke stuff (to remove the files since I believe they're installed to /system) mobile data remained broken.
I've gone back to not using Xposed, but Greenify just isn't as good.

Hmmm okay so I've done some research and I have a few ideas if you're willing to put the time in.
Likely solutions -
*#*#4636#*#* in dialer, check phone info -> "Set preferred network type" and make sure it is correct for your desired network (probably GSM)
*#*#4636#*#* -> phone info and turn radio off and then on
Anything unusual under phone info?
Other options (after xposed install) -
Toggle aeroplane mode (sounds simple but you never know)
Boot without sim card inserted, turn off, boot with sim card inserted.
Re-flash latest radio
Long (hopefully failproof ) method -
Completely reset phone using RUU
Install any OTAs
Root, unlock & install TWRP
Install xposed
When you go to settings -> wireless & networks -> more -> cellular networks, is the APN option the only thing missing? Just for reference, I have data roaming, preferred network type, APNs and network operators. If you have any of these options I'd highly recommend playing around with them to see if this allows APN settings to appear.
If it's just APN settings missing, I'd assume it's some kind of radio/sim detection error. If that isn't the only issue then something must be corrupt and I'd recommend starting from scratch.
