My Verizon GN is having difficulty connecting to my phone and data networks. It all started on the day of the outage this week. I assumed it would all fix itself, but it has not. I've snooped around the board quite a bit and it seems all other users have had their connections restored.
I first noticed the problem on Thursday morning. My data status in notification bar would drop to display no "bars." It does not switch over to 3G. I figured this problem would resolve itself once Verizon fixed its network.
Then I tried to send a text and it couldn't be sent. I tried to call someone and it would not dial out.
But these loss of connections are not persistent. Eventually, the 4G works for a bit then disconnects again.
The phone network seems to be doing this as well. Sometimes I can call/text, other times I can't.
I was considering wiping my phone and flashing a new ROM or getting the stock ROM from google to flash. However, I seem to be having trouble with clockwork mod. When I try to reboot into recovery mode it takes me to what I assume is download mode (shows an android knocked over on his side with, I think, a red X).
Is there something simple I can do to fix my data/phone network connection?
If I have to flash back to complete stock, then how do I do this without being able to access recovery?
If all else fails, will I be able to do a factory reset considering the current scenario? I assume I would need to do this before bringing it to Verizon for service.
I appreciate any help provided. Here are some other details that might help.
Rooted with stock ROM
4.0.2
Baseband I515.09 V.EK05 / I515.EK02
Kernel 3.0.8-gaaa2611
Build ICL53F
/edit/
I should have mentioned I had the most up-to-date version of CWM. I just reflashed it with ROM Mgr and it booted into recovery, so that's good.
Well ****. I went into CWM - Advanced - Fix Permissions. I thought hitting Fix Permissions would bring up another menu. Instead it fixed permissions. Hopefully I didn't do something stupid that I don't understand.
I flashed the GummyNex Rom hoping it was a kernel issue or an issue resolved by going from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3. It's been a little better it seems, but it did drop both networks once already and it's only been 15 minutes or so.
The new ROM definitely did not solve anything. I don't know what to do. I need to find a way to get back unrooted, unlocked, stock. Unfortunately, I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11 which current SDK doesn't seem to support.

Hello,
Tonight I tried two different ROMs on my T-Mobile G2 (USA) and experienced a very weird Wi-Fi unavailability issue in both out of the box. Wi-Fi is not active. I cannot turn it on. It's not that it can't find networks or died after an hour, it's as if the Wi-Fi module is missing to the OS from the moment the device booted. When I go to the settings menu, find Wi-Fi, and flip the toggle switch to ON, it immediately goes back to OFF. Rebooting does not help. Going to Airplane Mode and back does not help.
Some quick background:
My previous working build is Ice Cream Jibwich 2.0. (Link)
While rooting this phone, I followed directions for gfree, and did not get SuperCID, simlock-off, or S-OFF.
I use ClockworkMod Recovery. As of now I can recover to my Ice Cream Jibwich install with no problems.
Here's what happened on the ROMs I've tried:
CM9.1.0 (Link), Kernel 3.x., gapps-20120429-signed
Factory reset, clean install. There is no Wi-Fi as detailed above, and it doesn't even recognize my T-Mobile SIM.
So I try another ROM:
Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 (Link), gapps-20120429-signed
Factory reset, clean install. I did not install either EdKeys' WiFi Calling or the .19 Radio lib-RIL/GPS .so updater.
I do get mobile service this time. However, the Wi-Fi problem remains.
Since I can download something this time, I installed some diagnostics tools. Elixir2 reports that the Wi-Fi module is "unknown", its connection state is "uninitialized", and it thinks it's "ready to start data connection setup" in the Detailed State. logcat shows no errors that are relevant to Wi-Fi.
Dom's Diagnostic Tools has "Unknown" or "Not Available" for every category under Wi-Fi.
I have tried Wifix for Mimicry (Link), and I don't notice any improvement.
What am I missing, what can I look for, and what are my options? Your help is very appreciated, as I'm losing patience for Jibwich's lag and instability. I can live with it, but the people that I want to gift this phone to won't.
Thanks!
Just last week my DZ started to have a very similar (probably the same) issue. When I try to start wifi, the phone gets stuck at "Turning on Wi-Fi..." and never actually turns the wifi on. It started happening occasionally on EliteMod ICS but a reboot would often fix the issue. Eventually rebooting stopped fixing it however. I have since wiped the phone and flashed a new ROM (Andromadus Jelly Belly Beta 1), and the issue remains. The MAC address is shown as unavailable in phone status and when checking in Elixir, I see the same things that infinip sees.
I have read elsewhere on other forums for other phones that it may have something to do with a faulty modem file or something, but frankly I have no idea.

Hello everyone, I've seen some other threads about similar signal loss issues or problems on the i927 around xda, but none of them worked or were compatible with the type of problem I'm having. I recently installed the January 6, 2013 build of Paranoid Android v2.+ on my i927, and it works great. However, I've been having one major issue that renders my phone useless. After about an hour or so of having the phone on, I lose ALL signal to my cell network (AT&T). There are no signal bars, no messages/MMS/calls can be made or sent, and I end up having to reboot my phone for it to function properly again for another hour or two.
I've tried what some users around xda have suggested such as taping my SIM card in place or wiping cache/dalvik cache in recovery, but as of yet nothing has worked
If anyone can help me, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm stumped at this point after exhausting all the options I thought would work. I really want to keep this ROM on my phone, it works better than stock or any other ROM I've tried yet by far.
Thanks in advance!

ALSO, I can post screenshots or any additional information if it's helpful in any way.
How did you unlock? I've had problems with signal when I unlocked via galaxsim unlock tool. Check your /efs/Nv.log for errors, I had an error connected with md5 sum every second or so.
For me, the other unlock way solved all the problems.
can you see in about, your imei, maybe is corrupt. see this link, maybe help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2019540
I haven't unlocked my phone, it was sold to me as an AT&T phone. I don't think my IMEI should be the problem

I also experienced this issue on 4.1.2, so I moved to 4.2.1 hoping to avoid it, yet this morning issue happened again with thegreatergood's i927 - CM10.1 - 1/22/2013. My IMEI is ok, unlocked by entering the unlock code given to me by ATT.
Note I am able to restore connection by switching on and off airplane mode, might save the time of reboot.

Yeah, I've tried every now and then to reset my connection by toggling airplane mode on/off, and it usually works for me too. I'm just stumped on why there's an issue with the signal at all to begin with, it doesn't make sense to me
I confirm, I also experience connection lost from time to time. And I also restore it with switching airplane mod on/off.
The same problem with 4.2.1
Hi! I had the same problem with the phone. The signal was totally off. I was using LiquidSmoth 4.2.1. I gave a solution flashing the rom another time.
I've seen this on AT&T's ICS firmware, it gave me this issue often and for me a reboot was the only fix.
I've upgraded to CM 10.1 and I am hoping it fixed the problem. If not, I will try flipping airplane mode off and on, I don't like battery out reboots, but if it doesn't any more suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

I've been using cm10.1 for months now & haven't had any issue with signal dropping. Did have if happen with other roms, but I think it's something to do with the kernel more than the rom. They just released rc1 of cm10.1 has the latest kickass kernel.
Sprint Galaxy Nexus
4.2.1
Not rooted
I performed a factory reset on my phone yesterday due to it bogging down and being rather slow. I never did a reset after getting the 4.2.1 update so I figured it was a good time. I woke up this morning, putzed around the house, and setup Tasker again. I laid my phone down for ten minutes while I got ready for work. Whenever I tried to wake my phone and nothing happened. I tried a few more times and the screen would not wake up. I pulled the battery, hard reset, reinserted battery and the phone wouldn't turn on. Then, I wiped the contact terminals (on the battery and the phone) and reinserted the battery and the phone booted up. However, since then I have had some major problems.
1. Power button does not always work properly. I have to press it several times to sleep or wake the phone. (Okay, not major, just inconvenient and probably unrelated to the issues below)
2. No data connection whatsoever.
3. In the data usage menu, there is no longer a data toggle switch.
4. Under the Network Mode option, LTE/CDMA produces absolutely no cell signal whatsoever. I have to switch to CDMA only. (WiFi works fine)
5. Toggling airplane mode, as some have suggested, does not cause the phone to connect to mobile data. Another factory reset did not restore mobile data. Rebooting did not restore mobile data.
6. All of these problems are true before and after factory reset. No new problems were created and nothing was exacerbated as a result of performing a factory reset.
I've been from one end of the internet to another looking for solutions to this problem and I have found that many are having a similar issue but toggling airplane mode or rebooting fixes it. Not the case for me. Most also seem to be having this problem after rooting. Again, not the case for me.
Any suggestions? I would prefer to not return the phone. Purchased from Radioshack and the 30-day warranty has expired. This is my second gnex already, as the first one's charging port broke. It took over a week to get this one from another store which graciously shipped it in to my store. There's also the issue of being broke and not really being able to afford another $30 activation fee on top of the deductible for a new phone.
Why not try reflashing the stock image and updating again to 4.2.1?

Not at all. You'd use Odin . Myself I have very spotty sprint signal in my home. Spoke to a corporate executive and they mailed me an AirRave free . Never have less then full bars 3g all around home. You should a- flash to stock using Odin following posts in sprint sextjon . b - call up and try to get an airavana.

Excellent. I will give it a shot at some point today or tomorrow and then let you know how it worked out. Thanks!
So, I restored the phone to stock. Signal is still non-existent on LTE/CDMA mode. Cannot perform Profile or PRL updates. Still no mobile data. I'm guessing hardware failure?
Also, on setup it asks for a SIM card. And at the bottom of the drop-down menu, it says "No SIM card|Sprint" or "No SIM card|No Service" depending on if I am in CDMA or LTE/CDMA.
Also, in the Status menu:
My phone number
Unknown
MIN
Unknown
PRL Version
Unknown
ICCID
Unknown
Seems a little odd to me.
Attempted fully rooting and flashing radios. No luck there either. It's also not wanting to update. Tells me my phone is up-to-date (connected via WiFi). Downloading Cyanogen now to see if it will work in the morning.
And while attempting to flash a new ROM, got the famous "can't copy anything to the device ever, under any circumstances" error.
Update: Got CM10 installed. Still "No SIM" error, no 3G, no data, no LTE. Found some more information on this No SIM error. Apparently a few others have had this same problem and in the end had to get a new phone.
Anyone know anything?
You should a- flash to stock using Odin following posts in sprint sextjon
I've been back to stock twice now. The first thing I did was flash to stock. Then I played around a bit and now I'm back to stock again.
Is there a difference between using Odin and Nexus Root Toolkit to return to stock?
Bump
Wow, one day and my thread is buried!
After battling for about a day, I got updated to JB 4.2.1, I can do profile and PRL updates again, but there is still no 3G/mobile data, and I still have zero bars on LTE/CDMA and have to use just CDMA. I am currently stock but the bootloader is unlocked, no root.
If anyone has heard any solution, please help. Also, if there's a difference between flashing to stock with Odin vs NRT, please say so.

Try fastboot flashing your LTE and CDMA radios again. As far as I know, fastboot commands do NOT require root. I had a similar issue.

Indeed, fastboot does not require root. I've flashed my radios several times now in various different ways. I even flashed different versions. I attempted again but with no luck. I have normal service when using CDMA but nothing on LTE/CDMA. Still no data, still "No SIM card" error.
Pretty sure I'll have to get it replaced. I've gone from stock JB back to stock ICS, rooted, CM10, back to stock ICS, rooted, back to stock JB unrooted, and flashed three different radios. I'm surprised I haven't managed to brick it yet.
UPDATE: Sprint is sending me a new phone, for free.
Since upgrading to BMB4 I am having an issue at work where my phone will not switch between access points properly. It appears to be a problem with the phone *disconnecting* from the access point when I no longer have a strong enough signal. If I walk from my desk to another part of the building, it still says I am connected with a strong signal, even though I am not connected at all.
In fact, several times when driving home I have looked down after realizing I haven't received any e-mails in a while to see that my phone still thinks I should be connected to the wifi at my desk.
The only workaround I have found so far is, if I go from my desk to another part of the building, turn wifi off and back on, then do it again when I return to my desk, or anytime I notice that my phone thinks I have a strong wireless signal but I don't.
I tried a full factory reset, but no dice. Had absolutely no problem prior to BMB4.
Anyone else seen anything similar? Any ideas? Anything buried in the service menus that could be wrong? If not, would rooting and reflashing the radio be likely to help (can you give me a link to the right one to try if so)?
Thanks!
The radio wouldn't have anything to do with it. You are probably a victim of just some simple file corruption. It happens, I see this more with OTAs than anything. That "transitioning" from one OS to another while attempting to preserve precious data.
I would recommend you root it, install "TWRP" 2.5.0.0 for your device (which is basically a recovery or "bios" for the device - or basically a kernel), and then install a ROM that has been updated to BMB4... off the top of my head, i would say you should give tweaked 2.0 a try. It's solid (others are as well, but i know for certain that one will give you zero issues similar to the one you are reporting.)
The links for twrp, with instruction on how to install can be found in the "orginal development section" and the tweaked ROM can be found in the plain "development section" of the forum here.
As I said, very likely that your issue can be resolved by starting 100% fresh. New system install (which is not formatted when you wipe data obviously)
So again, root, install twrp recovery, install tweaked 2.0. Follow directions to the T.
Good luck
I was reading and wondering if I actually wrote that question. That is EXACTLY what is happening to me since the update. I never have an issue at home, it is just moving from AP to AP at work and also being 'connected' when I am miles away from the AP. I don't really want to factory reset, so I tried turning off wifi power saving using "*#0011#" and that seems to be working...
Hello, so here is my problem. I have been using Cyanogenmod 13 on my LG G3/ls990 for months now. Recently I needed a static IP address through Sprint. When they applied the static IP to my account, I was stuck on 3G, even though I mostly have LTE. Basically what I did was use an old stock rom backup to update my PRL/Profile. This brought back my LTE service. Then I reloaded my CM13 backup. Unfortunately, at first it didn't recognize my sim card, and then it only recognized 3G. Okay, so no problem, I decided I would just go back to the stock rom and clean install a new custom rom. Unfortunately, when I went back to the stock rom, it was also stuck on 3G and this time when I tried to update the PRL/Profile it didn't work, I am guessing because it already saw these as updated. So after a few chats with Sprint's tech support, I was able to get LTE to work again. She said a particular network configuration file wasn't working right, and she did something which was suppose to fix it. As instructed, I typed in code ##72786# after she did it, and LTE worked perfectly. Stupidly, I thought it would be as simple as reloading my CM13 backup. Yet it did it again when I loaded the backup, and now I am stuck on 3G again. Before this I didn't really connect the two together. Does anyone know what exactly is happening here? Tomorrow I plan to call Sprint again, to get them to fix the file, but is there a way I can do it myself, in case I have this problem again when I install a new custom rom? For example, if I go into ##Data# will I fix things by changing a setting in there or something? I hate having to talk to Sprint every time this messes up, and yeah, I know it was stupid of me to do the same thing twice, but it was a day apart and I forgot what I had done the first time. Hopefully whomever I talk to tomorrow can figure out what the woman I spoke with did, because she definitely knew what she was doing. Thank you for all of your help!
Update: Called Sprint they reset my network and I have LTE again. I am somewhat wary of installing a new rom but would like one for resolving performance issues and wifi tether. I downloaded an unofficial Lineage 15 Rom yesterday while I was on 3g only, but it couldn't find my sim. Is there a way to backup my current network settings?
Update 2: So I just tried a fresh install of Lineage 15 and it didn't work. First it recognized cell but no data. Then I went into data settings chose carrier settings that crashed, "android.com. [something]has stopped working" , the sim was unrecognizable after that and the carrier settings weren't there any longer. I backed up my EFS partition in the stock rom before installing, but then I was stuck on 3g even despite that. I called Sprint again, and got them to reset my network settings. Don't want to keep calling them though.
Anybody here with Sprint and a static IP that can recommend a ROM that will work and not mess up my network settings? I don't care if it is Marshmallow or Nougant, I just want something that doesn't overheat my phone and which I can have native tethering.
EDIT: I was able to install Fullmics and retain my LTE.
