It depends on how careful you are with your phone, but I would definitely recommend a case and screen protector to avoid getting scratches, if nothing else.

I'm very careful but I agree with you for a screen protector and a case, any recommendation for the case, I saw the origin HTC bi color case but some people said it makes scratches....!?!

That depends on how much protection you want and if you mind covering up the back of the phone (it's nicer than most phones so some people rather not).

That's the one I have, and I like it a lot. Protects the sides and the back, without covering the aluminum body.

I never have much issue with screen scratches (usually) but I'd still err on the side of caution and do at the very least a screen protector. I'm going to replace my ZAGG (which I'm hoping is just scratched and not a crack on the screen ) with one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors with the rounded edges.

Ha ha, I have one of those fancy shmancy glass screen protectors. It feels nice and looks nice, but there are bubbles in the corners
TPU skin is good enough if you have good reflexes.
While it is falling, you'll probably break its fall by hitting it up. Plus you can find absolutely clear TPU skins.
A case is a must, screen protector is not.
What I do is whenever I get a brand new phone, I always start with a good protective case and a screen protector. After a few months, I gradually get thinner cases and usually end up with those 0.3-0.5mm thin cases that makes the phone feel nice and less bulky. If you plan to rock the phone naked, I'd recommend a phone pouch.

Thank you very much for the quick response I'm still searching for a good frame or case, is it true that the origin HTC bi color case leaves scratches on the phone I won't believe it .....?! I also hope that the black version is scratch resistant some people said not......I just talked with a Vodafone assistant to change the black against the silver but he said to me that himself have the black one and I looks quite better and after two month usage without any case he have no scratches. I'll take the black one, it comes next week and I will give you a first impression.
Can't await

Its not REALLY a must IMO. The phone actually holds up very well. Yesterday i purposefully put the phone in the same pocket with a bunch of coins and it scratched the aluminum but the scratches wiped right off. If you drop things than that would be a different story at aluminum can easily dent :good:
That was my point also ... it looks a little exaggerated to say that a case is a must.
I intend to use the phone "naked" indoors. Any case will practically ruin the nice feeling of the phone itself. Of course, if you drop it then there are chances to ruin the nice finish.
I'm also using the phone outdoors, fr sports. For that purpose I ordered a trident kraken ams ... I hope it will do the job.
P.S.: I saw that a OEM housing is "only" 50 bucks, free shipping ... I guess I'll buy one just in case .
I would say that if you carry your phone in your pocket a case is a must. I generally like to go case-less (especially with a phone this pretty), but after having my One slip out of my pocket on a couple of occasions, I ended up getting a case (Poetic Atmosphere; the rubberized edges keep it from slipping out). If you intend on getting a pouch of some sort, I think case-free is fine.
Also, I don't have a screen protector and have no scratches, though I tend to be pretty gentle with my phones.

On Etradesupply, the OEM housing is only like 30 bucks.
I say a TPU case is a must because:
1) You WILL drop it at some point, it's anodized AL, not grippy plastic.
2) The case provides a lip, so if you put your phone face down, the screen won't touch the surface & scratch from w/e dirt is there.
3) The case will also keep the camera lens (or the anodized back) from touching any surfaces.
4) I wear a ring, and if I don't put a case on, the ring scratches ONTO the phone. That's not good.
If you're REALLY careful, then none of these matter. but it's hard to be perfect.
Besides, when I'm in bed, I can just quickly remove the case for a little bit. It feels nice.
This phone is just too good looking to cover up, IMO. I've been going naked since day one I don't have a single scratch on it. The aluminum housing is solid and whatever glass HTC used really resists scratching. My One X screen got covered in microscratches pretty quickly, but I haven't seen anything on this phone.
Just treat it with care and you can forget the case. CNET tried to destroy their test phone and couldn't do it.
I have a double dip case bought at once with the phone. Well .. the feeling simply does not compare with the case on. It just loos cheap and plastic'ish ... is worse than galaxy S4 actually. So, with all the risks involved I will go "naked" while in normal use and I will use the kraken ams for outdoors. That's all ...
I only like corner protection. I don't care about the back.
I used to have a screen protector on this but I don't like it, it doesn't make the display look as nice. I have since taken it off and have not gotten any scratches, not even micro ones. I think this display is more tough than previous GG2 screens. I had the ONE X+ and it scratched easily.

I respectfully disagree, as will most in this forum that Android is horrible.
Maybe you can post what apps you are looking for and other users can tell you if there are equivalent apps.

Hello Senior Member,
Thanks so much for your quick response, ok I'm impatient, I found the first app for my marantz av and the buffalo server which works its the bubbleUPnP and it works with the iPhone equivalent not still searching the for the 8player.
I want to get the black carbon fibre skin but I'm not sure if its waterproof or not because when I wash my phone's screen I rinse it in the tap then wipe it dry with a paper towel.

yup owns Z1 and stuff.
First of all, I don't think I have ever seen a better way to ruin your xperia design, bravo.
Secondly, it is basically a sticker and therefor it should hold on the phone without any problems. (unless it's made out of paper (it is not, don't worry))
Thirdly seller lists item as durable and washable so there should be no problems connected to water contact..
That's about it, have a nice day
That seems pretty cool...shame i prefer rubber cases though... Only way to protect it better in my opinion

Yep, true about design ruining, I have the z1s from tmobile and their request was to make the sides plastic so i wouldn't mind putting carbon fiber around the side of my phone since it's not real metal anyways lol

Hi,
is there a film for the slippery back?
Something that sticks good to your hand even when the hand is very dry.
I don't want to use a case. For the iPhone, i had a couple of years ago, there was a film that had a texture a little bit like an orange
and had to be applied with a little bit of water.
Any one knows something like that for the z3c?
thanks a lot,
syd
You could always use a case?
There is a "screenprotector and back protection" topic, why not just check in there instead of creating another topic.

They don't have them for the Z3C yet, but they told me they will be released before the end of the month. Take a look at the skins on the Z2 to get an idea of what they will look like on the Z3C.

Yeah, I'm going to buy one as soon as they are available. Probably the black leather back skin. The glass on the back seems to scratch way more easily than the glass on the front.
I just cut up an old XtremeGuardz skin to fit the back for the time being.

Same. I've had my phone for 9 days now and noticed multiple very fine scratches on the back but the front looks fine, I've never had any scratches on my phones before. Plus the back is too slick and needs some extra grip.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M2232YA/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item I just ordered this yesterday. I've never used Skinomi, so I'll try to remember to post a review of it when I receive it.
Look up "flexible innovations." They make something call egrips. There is an iPhone 5 kit. The back piece of that kit fits ok on the Z3C. A little ugly, perhaps, but extremely grippy.

Their quality is hit and miss. I had one for my G-pad 8.3 and it was awful. Its not bad for temporary use but dbrand is by far the best that I have used so far.
Received the Skinomi today. The carbon fibre back isn't heavily textured, but it's not as slick as the glass back. As for the screen protector, I've never been particularly skilled applying them so I have a couple air bubbles and possibly a speck of dirt underneath it. I'll wait a couple days to see if they work themselves out.

It seems a z3 compact screen protector from xtreme guard is available now: http://www.xtremeguard.com/mobile/Product.aspx?id=2626
But I guess we'll have to wait for the back protector?
If that ever comes.
Are there any alternatives before I drop my phone?

Hi all,
I'm wondering how durable the metal back of the OP3 is and how easily it scratches. For some reason I'm really afraid that the back scratches easily, even when I'm just putting down my phone on the table or something like that. I'm using a case right now but the OP3 just feels much better without a case, so maybe you can convince me that it's more durable than I think? Has someone used his OP3 without a case for a good amount of time and can tell how good the back survived?
I think the back it pretty durable due to aluminium but i am really worried about the camera bump. I use a think clear case which doesn't cover camera bump .I put my phone on table mostly. Anyone who are using this phone without cases can share their experience the built quality of this phone and also the camera bump. Will the camera glass scratches easily?
hi
it's already been 4 months for me without using any case. I'm a typical that care my phone, my pants pocket just for phone only without other things and when I put the phone down in the table I did it slowly. for my experience it's been pretty well, no scratches in my back phone and the camera lens still perfect, all is still perfect except a couple dents because I drop it. and the metal really feel so great in the hand

put a case on it if you worry for scratches before you regret.
used mine (before replacement) few weeks without case, got some scratches, but fairly visible. really durable housing. but better at outdoors use with case, alluminum is really bad looking when dented/scratched.

If it's only scratches your afraid of I would advice you to buy a dbrand skin. Using it from the beginning and love it, it also makes it less slippery.

Yeah, get a dbrand skin. Get one that just covers the back and it's great to avoid the slippery part of the phone. Tried a couple of cases but it added too much bulk to the phone. Phone has been dropped a few times but no scratches.
Honestly this is the best looking case i ever used. This cover is soft matte case and well build. Especially cloth back is very comfortable feeling and looks durable.

I found this "glass". In fact, this is not glass, it's a thick film. However, it states on "glass" at the manufacturer's website.

As per manufacturer - Type:Front Film
And again - "...Glass Screen Protector..". so it is protector for glass screens....
Honestly why would you get gorilla glass screen in the first place if you want to put on some plastic on it?
Gorilla glass has enough scratch protection and if you plan to abuse your phone then this is not the type of phone in the first place. The film type screen protectors drop protection has always been controversial and questionable.
It's like getting a new car and putting some clothes on it to not scratch the paint and to not chip the windshield...
It's the question of "refreshness". You put $2-3 glass on top of Gorilla (which is not so scratch-resistable in fact) and trash it after 3-5 month, got new glass and fresh new screen. In case of no protector the only option you have is new LCD assembly at $50? (or fake china "compatible" LCD with poor colors and backlight). According to the fact that 3-layer glass (original gorilla+silicone adhesive+protective glass) will be definitely stronger comparison to LCD only, that's the reason to choose.
But i agree with you, >$200 phone is not the price you'll have to put a case in a case while in carrying pouch to protect it like a treasure.
I got the same case. Very nice quality. The only thing I don't like is the rough inside surface. Hopefully it won't scuff the back of the phone. It also seems slightly thicker than my other plain black case.
Got the same case good quality. Cloth back solves the problem that the bare phone is SUPER slippery and will slide off a perfectly flat surface.
Are there any problems with pressing side buttons and plugging earphones?

How are the buttons with this case, I have one from silicon as well and they are really hard to press.
