So i had CM9 with Hurtsky's Kernel. All of a sudden my phone keeps on rebooting. I tried recovery mode it comes till the logo but then again reboots. Whenever i remove the battery and put it back in...it automatically switches on. Now, i knew the only way was ODIN. But then, encountered another problem...even the download mode isn't stable. When flashing the GB ROM, the download mode reboots after 2min or 1min and ODIN tells E-USB disconnected. Now what can i do? I checked my microsd card....it has no viruses. So now, all i can get is ''Firmware upgrade encountered a problem. Please select recovery Mode in Kies''. Also, now i have no recovery only that message. Please guys help me as soon as possible. Thanks!
So.....
You pull the battery and replace it,
The phone boots, shuts down and boots?
You boot the phone normally.....
The phone boots, shuts down and boots?
You enter recovery......
The phone shuts down and reboots?
You enter download.....
The phone shuts down and reboots?
Does the phone shut down, reboot, shut down, reboot........
in a never ending cycle?
If I have accurately described the symptoms I *think* you are getting, then it all points to a faulty power button......
That being the case, I'd start looking for your standard 2 year manufacturers warranty, because it means a trip to a service centre and a main board replacement (the power button is soldered directly to the main board).......

Yes. It is the power button. After i researched i found that it is because of the faulty power button. To clear your questions..my phone shut down-reboot-shut down-reboot in a never ending cycle. But yesterday i disassembled my phone...i pressed the power button a couple of times at the edge of the button. It still didn't work out. It's still rebooting. I can't get a new power button for myself. And about my warranty...it's only for a year and i bought it in December 2011.
Samsung provides a TWO YEAR warranty as standard.......
Edit....just seen the purchase date.....not good.....
It'd still be cheaper to get a replacement mother board than a new phone.....

Hey,
I'm in a bit of a panic ...
my cell phone ran out of battery life. When I came hame I pressed the power button and he showed the boot screen. Then I plugged him in en left him there for a while. Now , coming back, I tried to boot again but nothing happens. When he's unplugged from the power socket, he doesn't do anything at all, not even bootloader. When I plug hiim in he get's into a loop. He boots(shows black Touch Pro2 sign, red led goes out) then he immediatelly goes to black screen again (red led goes on again) and does this in a loop. Also when I can get to bootloader (rainbow screen) for 3 seconds, power off instantly again)...
I have done a HardSPL and installed Energy Rom 2 weeks ago..;everything worked fine (more or less, had at least 1 crash every two days, but better then the crash every day with stock rom)...
A phone of 600 euro's, I hope it's not bricked Any solution or can I send it in for repairs like this? Rom flashing voids warranty I suppose?
Tom
This is common when the battery is below a certain threshhold. Until it is charged above that the phone will not boot. If the battery is not taking a charge then it's time for a new battery. Yes, a non=OEM ROM will void your warrnty. Do not send it in for service with anything but the stock ROM and no HardSPL on it.
but why does it boot by itself, when plugged in, followed by power off within 2 seconds? There was nothing wrong with battery before this? Shouldn't it be a steady decline instead of being wasted just at once?
It will try to boot, but the phone will not run on just the AC power and if the battery is too low it will go into a reboot loop. LioN batteries can just go bad and stop taking a charge. That's why I have 2.
Are you near a place that has this phone in stock ? or a friend that has one ? if so go there and ask them to let you use the battery for a minute, power the phone up completely , then shut it down properly, take out battery, then put your old battery back in , do not power it on , fully charge it. You should be good to go...
after leaving the battery out for a night, he charged normally and booted normally...fieuw..bit strange, but will not ask any questions about it ...thanx for all the help!!!
Yeah, I knew it eventually would. Happened to me once. I think it has less to do with the battery and more to do with a glitch in the phone reporting that the battery level is low upon boot when it really isn't.
hi. i got a tmobile samsung galaxy s2. I am out of my warranty. i had my phone for about six month thru a warranty exchange.
I was browsing espn.com, then out of no where the phone turned itself off and started to vibrate. I have tried to power it on, and it just vibrates. it turns on a quarter way then begins to vibrate. i left the battery out since the problem started waited the whole night to pass, still just beeps.
I googled how to put phone into discovery mode, but when I do the steps, it also powers the discovery mode quarter way then turns off and starts to vibrate. Is it a sticky power button. The power button presses normally, doesnt resist when i press it.

Sounds to me like a sticky or stuck power button. If you can take it apart...clean around the button that might help. There are a few guides in the Skyrocket forum on how to do it. Search for sticky power button or look at the stickies by Vincom. I have a T989 as well and used some of these methods and it worked. Good luck!

To be honest your probably going to have to the the button replaced I had same issue I tried everything to cleaning it and around it and even prying it away from the connector and nothing worked I had to send it into Samsung and they had to replace the motherboard thankfully it was still under warranty its worth a shot to call em n ask if yours is

I had the same issue, took it apart and tried cleaning to no avail. I called a local cell repair shop and as soon as I said I had an S2 and started to describe the issue, he stopped me and said it was a short in the switch, which had to be replaced, and gave me a quote. Seems to be something of a common issue.

How much was it for the shop to fix this?
I am looking at buying an S2 for $100 that is doing this shut off & vibrate.

I got something similar happening to a S2 I have. I was using it, it just shut down and won’t boot anymore. As soon as I plug it in it'll start vibrating indefinitely, pull the battery and re-insert it, and it'll keep on vibrating indefinitely. Sometimes I see the SAMSUNG logo but that as far as I can get. RECOVERY doesn’t work, ODIN doesn’t work, no button combination works... seems kind of dead to me.
You guys think it’s worth sending it to SAMSUNG and getting a quote to get it repaired?
EDIT: sometimes i can get into download mode for about 3 seconds then it blue screens and reboots. I can get as far as pressing the VOL+ up and then reboots...
So did anyone find a solution or was it a "short in the switch"?

SOLUTION !!! Hey i share your pain... i have an
S2 as well and have been facing the same
problem... my phone is rooted so at first i
thought the problem was due to an unstable
custom rom... anyway the REAL problem is
called a "STICKY POWER KEY". all you need is a
bright light, a can of CRC (the none conductive
type) and a Phillips head screw driver.. you need
to remove the back cover of your phone, remove
your battery and or charger , sim and sd card
then remove the six screws that is holding the
phone together. after that , carefully pry open the
phone and remove the circuit board that has the
power button and the volume Buttons.. this is a
little tricky because in order to get the circuit
board out you will need to detach some
connectors.. now you need to spray some CRC
on the power button using the fine tip straw that
comes with the CRC CAN .. then you just need
to press the power button until you get tired... i
use CRC intermittently while i press, be careful
not to get too much on the circuit board tho..
when you are done , put the phone back together
and let it sit for an hour then replace the battery
and turn on your phone voila ..... feel free to
inbox me if you require further assistance...

Hey guys,
As of a little while ago, my S3 (running LS 2.37) seemingly decided that it wanted to tap out.
I was about to read a text message and bam, it shuts down completely. Naturally I try to reboot it, nothing happens. I pull the battery for one minute, and put it back in. Without pressing any buttons, the phone simply vibrates, "samsung" pops up on the screen, and then it shuts down again. The buttons are unresponsive.
I then think, if I can get to recovery mode, I can just factory reset my phone. So, I pull the battery out, put it back in, and attempt to get into recovery mode. Once again. the samsung logo pops up, with blue text saying "recovery boot" popping up in the upper left corner. The logo changes to the galaxy s3 logo, then the whole phone shuts off again. Back to square one. I can get into download mode, but after about 5 seconds in it, it shuts off in the same manner.
It does not read the fact that it is plugged into the charger now, and it was at 60% battery when this happened.
Are there any known methods of fixing this?
Help please!
bump

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. Do you have a warranty on the phone at all?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Di you have a spare battery? Perhaps there is something wrong with the circuit in the battery, if it is like most other L-ION batteries there is a internal circuit and when the battery is below X.xx voltage the cells are disconnected from the output terminals. It would be a simple test. I dont usually advocate the change parts to diagnose method but if you had a spare it would be an easy to diagnose.
alternately you could test it with a digital multi meter on the terminals where they go into the phone (the battery is labeled for polarity) turn the phone on and wait till it turns off see if the battery cut power for some reason.

Trying a different battery yielded no results, and I also have a warranty with my carrier (Telus), so I can easily get it replaced.
I was just more surprised than anything by the sudden failure.
bump ? i have the same problem now... running a custom ROM for months... did not install anything new... power button is working fine
Hello, my galaxy s3 died one day last year and I haven't been able to resurrect it since..inserting battery results in a vibration, samsung logo, then it dies until I pull the battery again. Today I had the sudden urge to try fixing it and got different results than I had previously. I cleaned a bunch of lint from the charging port and am now able to get a short red light flash when the phone is plugged in, followed by a vibration, then the battery charging logo, then death once again. Randomly I'll get the cyanogenmod bootup screen when repeating this cycle but for no longer than a second or two before the phone dies again. I've disassembled the phone and cleaned as much dust and crap as possible to no avail. Any recommendations? Could the power button be frozen? My samsung infuse had a stuck power button and would boot loop but my S3 doesn't seem to be boot looping. Just turning on then dying until I fiddle with the power button again.
I want to rule out sudden death...
I had a sudden death on a note 2.
Download a good compatible (with your baseband) ROM.
Fool with the phone. Like really. Keep trying to turn it on, try recovery mode. I fixed one of these. It wasn't quite the same but I still have it. And it works. If the screen wasn't cracked to hell I'd be on it.
Another option may be trying a debrick image on an external sdcard. You should use one based on the same modem and baseband installed on the phone when it last worked.
My stock Nexus 5x was working fine this morning. On my drive to work, the phone had 39% batter remaining (I forgot to charge it overnight), and I attempted to make a call over my car's built-in blue tooth. When the outgoing call failed a second time, I looked down at my phone and noticed the screen was black. I have tried holding the power button for various amounts of time but nothing happens. I've also tried charging the phone, in case the battery meter was out of calibration, but nothing seems to elicit any sign of life.
I recall from past mobile devices that there's a combination of buttons that can be pressed and held for so many seconds to force a reboot. Is there such a procedure for the 5x? I have some past experience with rooting phones, connecting them to my computer with Odin, ADB, etc. Is there anything I can try?
Thanks for any pointers, this sucks!
@Dirt_Bag: Hold Vol-, then press Power until the 1st screen. Then immediatly the base menu of bootloader appears. Good luck.

Thanks for the instructions but it's not working. My phone shows no signs of life... I should have all my photos backed up elsewhere, but in case I don't, is there anyway to access the internal storage?
@Dirt_Bag: maybe experts can read it. I've no idea.
Try pressing and holding the power button for at least 30 seconds.
My wife's Google Nexus 5x died yesterday too. Go to load recovery mode, and it does nothing. I can get into developer boot screen, but that's it... Nothing works.
had a friend's nexus 5x die in a similar way just a few days ago too. won't power on at all. not sure this is the bootloop issue, seems more like a battery thing. but no idea
Contact LG chat. Explain it to them and that you were told the warranty was extended to 30 months on the Nexus 5X. They'll have you put in a repair request. Takes about 2 weeks or so.
If you can get into bootloader but the phone WILL NOT boot into the OS.... it's a bootloop. If the device is hard dead, it's still part of the bootloop.
Bottom line... LG extended the Nexus 5X to a 30 month hardware defect warranty. You send in your phone, you'll get a new (hopefully revised) mainboard with your same IMEI.

Whenever I've received back my phone from repair the IMEI has been different.
Is IMEI important for CDMA networks?
