So far battery's been meh - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Not sure how's everyone's battery stats been with the t-mobile variant of the M8, but compare to other phones I've used recently like the LG G2 and the Sony Xperia Z1s, my battery life's been been unimpressive so far.

I had mine on for 6 hours straight streaming pandora on high quality. My battery indicator literally did not move <1mm. I thought that was some heavy usage so wondering what you subjected yours to or what you are basing your opinion on.

First of all you need to wait about a week for everything to full settle and get some good charges on your battery. Battery life is always gonna be shotty for the first couple of days.....

I was very skeptical about the battery when I jumped from the LG G2 as the G2 had amazing battery life. but the M8 is on par if not better in my opinion,,
6:15 hours screen on time and the most I got from the G2 was 5:30
I don't know if it's because the smaller screen or the snapdragon 801 or some software optimisations
This phone Rocksssss

Really... Surprised the M8 battery life is even close to the Flex battery life since the Flex has a 3500mAh compared to 2600mAh. Can you make it 24 hrs with heavy use with M8.

Same here! I was worried coming from the Note 3 to the M8 with the smaller battery. I have kept any stats but my M8 makes it 24 hrs no problem.

I think it's an unfair assessment to just say it's meh. I came from the Note 3 which is probably one of the best batteries out there (mostly due to it's size) and it's holding it's own against that battery life, imo. I've never tried LG G2 or Xperia, but I know Note 3 regularly was at the top if not the #1 battery life phone. Most sites are rating it as above the Note 3, including Anandtech. Idk I think it's all about usage and time. You use a new phone more initially so I'll reserve judgment until I get into a regular flow with it.

OP has a broken M8.
Cancelled my online order and picked up my M8 Friday, been using it over the weekend in the same scenario as my G2.
Battery life is slightly better than the G2, which I ranked as having the most amazing battery life of any phone I've used next to my Note 2.

The battery life is "meh". Stop watching so much pRon. Lmao jk all jokes aside, the m8's battery is superior for only 2600mah. Thanks a ton to the energy effecient snapdragon 801. Anyway I wake up at 8 and don't plug it back in anywhere around 10-12 at night. That's heavy browsing, snap chat, xda (uses a lot of battery), 20 minutes or so of modern combat 4 and on top of that 90 percent of my day is on campus and I have horrible signal and still the battery is phenominal. you Might have a defective unit or have some rogue apps going crazy in the background

I'm curious as to what you are doing with the phone to kill it so quickly...

Coming from the og One and Nexus 4 the in the past 9 months I have to say the battery life has been awesome. With moderately heavy use I can very easily go a day and end up at 30-40%.

Not to be a **** but have you don't any searching to see what the issue may be before complaining? Use the tools at hand:
GSAM Battery Monitor
Wakelock detector
Built in battery monitor
Find what the issue is. Most likely its an app with a killer wakelock that you don't even know exists. I just switched to a N5 and am going to the M8 tomorrow and my N5 has slept better then any phone I have ever had because I haven't installed useless apps that sometimes have issues that cause locks.
There is a chance you have a bum device, chances are more likely that you have a bad app though
- this post was more intended at Juniorluna who surprising has only 1 post and its to complain about the One.... Interesting

Does anyone use 4G on all day and get good batt?

Want to get a small survey. Do you guys leave 4G on all day and only 4G, no JuiceDefender or radio tricks and get good battery?
Post your results please!
I use Setcpu for screen off and underclock to 1.35 GHz and average 12 hours allowing 4g to stay on throughout my day.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I've been getting about the same battery length whether I'm on 4G only or WiFi+EDGE - which is around 6-8 hours. This is without additional battery-saving techniques.
i get around 8-9 hours if i leave 4g on....... without it 12+
what settings do you have on setcpu i have it downloaded but i haven't used it on this phones tips will help
Yes 4G on, no JD help, no wifi relying. My buddy's Droid bonic has the extended 2880 mah battery and I'm darn jealous, keeps LTE on and lasts a day streaming google music all day. This is obviously the perfect setting we all want, fast 4G, sync on, blistering powerhouse, no compromise usage.
I've got a profile during screen off for 384mhz/192 powersave
Main is 1350/192 ondemand. Phone remains smooth and usable.

I'm really shock today, picked up an exchange yesterday and today I'm getting over 15hrs with 4G on and fully stock and I still have 33% left. This is with a few calls, music streaming and texting.

im surprised as well i leave everything on and the phone is still alive all day. have 4g on, sync, stream, web, text, couple calls, screen brightness set to automatic.
i think if i do some battery saving techniques i could push 2 days/
been on for 13 hours and still have 26%.
way better than the 8 - 10 hour max on my vibrant.
havent had to worry about charging my phone on at all

Wow, there has to be some issue causing some of us to only get 8 hours out of a battery and others getting 13+. Starting to make me wonder if I have a bad one.
I keep 4g on & I get good battery life too. I don't underclock or even mess with the CPU at all either.
im starting to wonder if I got one with a really good battery, ill post screens tomorrow but since I bought the phone like 3 weeks ago I have Never turned off 4g. im on wifi at home but where I work for 8 or more hours in on 4g. i leave wifi on anyway and i dont use juice defender or any power saving modes, i tend to use full brightness, and i play with my phone (checking phandroid and cnet/videos, rev3 etc...) whenever I'm not in a sale.
all of that and my battery always lasts more than 12 to 15 hours.
I will charge tonight and post screens either as soon as I remeber when on low battery.
is anyone else getting great battery life?

Just my two cents, but I leave my 4g on all the time. I literally never turn it off and I get a full days (moderate) use out of my SGS II. I don't know how, but this is BY FAR the very best battery life i've ever gotten out of an Android; and I've owned quite a few out them by this point (since the original hero). I know it's battery is very large for an oem/ as it comes battery and for me I can really tell.
Amazing battery life on a single charge
I'm getting 13+ hours with 4G on all day. Simply amazing battery life.
My phone is rooted with Teshxx streamlined ROM loaded, with no additional power saving apps of features running.
I'm in an area with amazing 4G signal, my phone never switches to 3G/Edge.
It is possible your mileage may vary if the phone is switching constantly between the two.

The Battery Really Is Amazing!

Hi guys,
Go this One X about 2 weeks ago tomorrow, so I'm guessing the battery has now reached its maximum capacity. Yesterday I was using my phone loads, I had nothing to do and so I kept messing about on it and I got these AMAZING statistics. I'm on 1.29, and for a heavy day of usage these statistics are excellent!
Anyone else seeing anything like this

The battery consumption in standby is almost negligible. 3% for all the night. Having the same kind of statistics since last 38days. But the consumption when the screen is on, isn't so great. But for me it can easily sustain for a day, only thing I have to keep my hands off my mobile.

I have often noted not a single % loss overnight! I couldn't believe it when I went to bed (it was 91%) and woke up 7 hours later and it was still at 91%. I confirmed this behaviour over about 3 or 4 nights - same. Very impressed. Overall I must say that I am actually pretty impressed considering what this phone is packing inside. Over the weekend when I'm not using my phone as much as during the week (family duties call ;-) I can go about 2 days without a charge which is outstanding. The One X is by far the best handset I have ever owned. I love it.

Totally recommend a factory reset, by the sounds of things your battery needs calibrating or something firmware wise is wrong.
Done it many a time mate (I install new ROMs every week or so)
As for calibrating my battery I have done it once but I will be trying it again soon

There's a market application that can do it, but it will install those annoying adds that put the little green '+' in your notification bar, however uninstalling the application will remove these.. so you could do a calibration and run

I'm also really impressed with the battery life
It's so much better than my old iPhone 4S
Here's a screenshot of a few days usage (using the phone whenever I needed, no just leaving it idle for days.... )
I wish i could be that enthusiast about the battery life. I ran the HTC Battery Test and it went from 100% to 89%, which is supposed to be really good (or at least shows that there is nothing wrong with the battery). However, when the screen is on, the battery level decreases pretty quickly. I've seen people here who use the screen for 4 hours and still have 50% battery but it's clearly not my case.
I've had the phone for like 10 days, so maybe it will get better. Let's hope so

It is because you have hardly used the phone as indicated by the fact that the screen is only at 28%. The standby life is good, however as soon as you start using the phone battery goes down fast. Also it does not update battery properly while in standby, as soon as you start using it the battery will drop by 5-6% in one go.

Lol, you know the HTC one X can get around 24 Hours screen on time too, Leave it on Minimum brightness, Airplane mode etc. But that's not an accurate representation, and that will be where the S3 also got that screen time.
Now, Put the One X and S3 on chrome Browser home screen or any white background and watch that Piss poor AMOLED suck itself dry.
Personally, I'm very happy I didn't get the S3.

I had a little tinker with it today, Touchwiz is a bit cartoony for my taste and the AMOLED colour saturation probably doesn't help but it was super smooth, better than ICS on the S2 fo' sho'

I get 5 Hours screen time on my HOX. I am impressed with this beauty!
There was someone complaining about the HOX battery the other day in the Q&A forum. I posted pics there of my battery stats. Standard stock setup, not rooted at all. A couple bloatware apps disabled in app settings and haptic feedback turned off, auto brightness on and all accounts set to auto sync switching between WiFi and 3G a lot (wifi left on as I was popping in and out the house all day). Basically straight out the box running latest update. Had over 36 hrs, over 4 hrs screen time, well over an hour voice calls, browsing, using various other apps, and still had 20% battery! So the HOX battery ain't as bad as a lot of people make out. Sure it could be bigger/better, but unless your hammering Tegra games all day or watching movies on it, the battery in the HOX is sufficient.

i think the point he's making is similar to statements like these from the verge review[/QUOTE]
I’ve never been a fan of plastic being made to look like metal — it feels disingenuous both on the part of the company selling the product and, subsequently, the person owning it — and I find it makes the Galaxy S III look cheap.

The Galaxy S III doesn’t creak or flex, fit and finish are great. It’s just that the materials used are not of the same tier as the premium stuff you’ll find on Nokia or HTC’s latest.

The blue version looks like a no-name knockoff phone maker is trying to appear ‘premium’ by faking a brushed metal look with plastic. It’s really unattractive.

I can promise you I don't get anywhere close to that with very similar usage...all my syncs are 2 hours, with WIFI on 100% of the time, only time its not connected os the journey from home to work all of 15 mins...
I would be more than happy with that!!!

So what if s3 got some onscreen time more than 1x. I could send a screen with 7h onscreen with hox if that makes u feel better

LOL I get at least 3.30 hours of screen time every day with VERY heavy use.
Today when I was at 1% my screen time was 4 hours 30 min and I had been surfing for almost 2 hours.
And that's not even my best, this is the best recorded stats so far -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579392&page=114
I intend to break those stats btw
I am extremely happy with my HOX and the design and specs of the GS3 were in all honesty a huge disappointment to me.
Said before and am saying it again I am proud to have the best current mobile phone in the world.
Cheers!

I've not made my mind up yet about whether I made the right decision, my mate will have 1 soon so we can compare closely.
GSM Area reckons the S3 can do 5.15 hrs browsing the web compared to 4.15 hrs on the HOX, not sure if that's true though.

I doubt those stats to be Honest, it depends on the webpages, but a high percentage of web pages have a white background, and due to the nature of AMOLED it uses more battery (Trying) to reproduce the colour white.
Therefore, I doubt it would have a higher browsing time than the One X, but obviously only a side by side comparison would prove so (not leaving it on a page however, so it would be a very boring test browsing for 5 hours)

Thinking of getting Note 2 and replace my S3 but..

I currently have Galaxy S3. I really like the phone except one thing.. Battery life. It seems that the battery life is worse than my previous phone Iphone 4s which i still have. I've read some posts with people claiming note2 gets up to 8 hours of screen on time, and some reviews that claimed iphone 5 gets better battery life than the note 2.
My question is, would getting a note 2 for its battery life worth it? I do tons of browsing and watching videos on my phone, not so much games. I want my phone to last for the whole day with heavy usage without having to charge it.

Here are the battery tests by gsmarena
You can chexk for yourself Note II is far ahead.
Plus there are a million more features in Note II other than battery life... I think the undisputed winner is Note II
No, don't get the Note II for its battery life.
If you buy a phone because of its battery life, it should be the RAZR MAXX (clear evidence in that gsmarena link above, no?)
I had the Gs3 for a month before getting the 2 and I had to put my extra battery at around 4 when at 10 it was fully charged now with the note 2 I can use it all day long =) so the bottom line get the note 2 if you can afford it =)

Here is my analysis after using galaxy series for a year. My usage is gaming, browsing and music
s1 Average screen on time: 3hrs
s2 Average screen on time: 4hrs
s3 Average screen on time: 5hrs
Note 2 Average screen on time: 6-7 hrs
This shows you the clear difference between s3 and note 2. Battery is quite good.
I came from s3 and love it. The battery life is much much better. Ive been getting 6 hours screen time and that includes hd video playback and gps on using navigation.

For heavy use, the note 2 would be nice for battery life.. But as always ymmv and im not sure about that iphone 5 due to my brother telling me he basically has to stay on the charger with it
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
Personally coming from the IPhone 4 s....and having every iteration of the IPhone beforehand, I simply love the note 2 and am blown away by itw battery time.
For the first time in many years, I have a device that lasts all day, and believe me I hammer it.
Working as a designer, I use this to its fullest and the multi windows feature, s pen usage, twitter and web browsing, and now using photo shop touch on my note 2 constantly (thank you kind members for donation of the apk), the phone just copes so well with plenty of juice by the time I get home.
Never looking back
No more Apple for me
Note2 is the best. Go for it
Sounds like the battery life is good on the note 2. I guess I'll sell my s3 and get it
Battery life
I had the original note. I had problems with the battery life, never satisfied with it. I have note ii for 2 days. I am impressed. Not only battery life is outstanding - conveniently one day with heavy use, but charging is super fast also. Major improvement in battery and charging, it is a great phone in total!
Comparing your 4s with an s3?
If you used the s3 just the same as you do the 4s I bet it would last longer. You are using a device with more capabilities so of course its going to die faster.
Nothing will beat the note 2 battery life though.

Battery life alone is worth it, but there are a million other reasons to get this phone! Keep in mind mine is Int'l version (no LTE radio) and i am not a power user, but still i can't put this phone down and i haven't chargd it in almost 3 days, still 60+ percent left : )

Yes. There is a huge difference specially when multi tasking. This is the reason I gave up my s3. No matter how many apps I load on the note it doesn't stutter but on my s3 it does. Also, when calling apps back to the screen, on the note they don't have to reload all their content, on the s3 it reloads every time.

So much for all the reviews that just talk about a reasonable battery consumption. Indeed, the consumption is really very impressive - in a positive sense, of course!

I'm really hoping that in paying homage to the M9's hard edge around the screen, they also aren't paying homage to the M9's horrid battery life as well. The reviews all seem to say that the battery life is bad.

Reviews give you the battery life after the first 48 hoirs which is never great. The picture above shows it after a week of usage though. That's what's interesting, bit no blog and Tech review cares about doing it right nowadays.

Yep. I really don't pay battery talk from reviewers any attention. Most of these reviewers live inside the camera during their review period which murders battery compared to just using the phone like regular people do. Simulated battery test aren't realistic either.

I agree for the most part, however Android Central is claiming they've had theirs for a week. On the flipside, a near 3500mah battery should be more than enough to go a day on a charge, even for a heavy user like myself. I mean, the Essential was the only Android phone that I can recall owning that would go a day for me, and it was only 3000mah. Sense is nearly as clean, the 845 is reputed to be a battery sipper, and another 500mah is another 500mah, so I'm hoping you're both right.

Is the SD845 a battery sipper though? Most phones with it haven't had the best numbers. OP6 performs around the exact same as the 5T despite the newer processor. The S9/S9+ have worse numbers than the S8/S8+ with the same battery sizes. XZ2 has a larger battery than the XZ1 but the improvement in battery life is pretty much equal to the size increase. I think this is another bad snapdragon year in the making.
It could be Oreo though because my numbers went down as soon as my 10 got it. The whole story will develop as time passes.

It could be the that the Twitter user was a very light user, or used power saving before 15%. I'm trying to argue it, I'd really prefer his numbers to be the norm rather than the outlier.

I said the 845 is supposed to be a sipper. I don't have one (yet) to personally test. I believe if this year is another dud year for Qualcomm, this could spell disaster for HTC. I dunno about Oreo being the culprit (overall); my girlfriend got 8.1 on her Essential and she hasn't complained about battery life (and believe me, she'd let me know). My fingers are crossed though.
Make no mistake though, I really do want the U12+ to meet my (IMO) reasonable expectations.
This is my battery stats! 70% time on WiFi 30% LTE. Battery drain is unusually high on LTE. Location off unless required Bluetooth sync off.
This is my first personal stats. 60% Wi-Fi, 40% 4G, BT on all time with a Smartwatch connected.
Listened to some music via USonic ANC Headset, streaming a few videos, browsing, mailing, XDA of course. After the first 58 hours up-time (so this being only the second full run) I'm pretty impressed of what I got

Can you try use phone for full charge without that feature?Lets see battery difference, after all its LCD not AMOLED.
My unlocked Galaxy S9+ is currently at about 29% with around 1:37 screen on time.....
Out of the box
Start at 80%
Setup and play with everything
screen on 4 hours and 24 minutes.
Go to bed 23:45 battery 24%
Wake up 05:45 battery 23%
Battery life is great for me.
I no it has to settle .
Anyway very happy with the result till now.
Grtz decodertje
Actually, feels like battery life decreases after the first day of use. It's understandable because of added apps. I charge it from 20-30 up to 80-90 (battery health squad). It gives me 4 hours of screen-on time. And I charge the phone only once a day with heavy usage. The major factor is screen brightness which drains battery damn fast when over 50%
