[Q] Dropped phone now reboots - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Yep the wife dropped her phone and now it will reboot every so often. To me seems the power button isn't very responsive. Anyone ever run into this problem?

Moved to Q&A.
How often is it rebooting? Holding power would get a reboot every 5 seconds on the nose.
You may want to try removing any MicroSD cards and flashing the last nodata one click and see if that fixes.

3 or 4 times an hour

If the power button doesn't seem very responsive and sometimes pressing the power button once actually brings up the long press menu, it is most likely the power button. I've had three of these devices have faulty power buttons and they would reboot themselves. These phones are notorious for having faulty power buttons.

Oh yeah? I had a sidekick4g that used to reboot every 10 seconds. I figured out it was actually the button. Ripped that damn thing out. I installed nomoahr powah and that was that. Until the charging port broke. Now I have to charge the battery externally and open up the phone to make the connection with a twist tie. Its tedious and not worth it. Having said all that I think it might be a software thing. Try to wipe caches. Try factory reset if you need. If it is the button try taking an air compress and cleaning it out. Don't rip it out. Its not as straight forward as on a sidekick. It maybe (very maybe) possible to disable the key. I have never tried it...

You can disable everything but the power button long press... Which is usually what causes the problem anyway. This is the reason I upgraded to the S3.

[Q] Sleep of Death with Stock

So I read about other people having this problem with custom ROMs or rooted phones but I am on unrooted stock after OTA. I thought was one of the 60 or whatever apps I bought during the 10 cent promotion but I uninstalled them all and I still had the problem. It's not frequent but it's happened 3 times in the last couple of weeks. It's mildly annoying to have to pull the battery but the part that I can't live with is that whenever it this happens, my battery drains like crazy. The battery usage drops off a cliff and I caught this one after no more than 5 minutes. Any thoughts on this? I don't have an SD card so it's not that. Thanks!

to find the rogue app use betterbatterystats and cpu spy. not sure if they superuser. also badass battery works too.
Mine did this the other night on Calk's ROM. Something got stuck keeping the phone awake causing that cliff like drop off.
Happened to me on stock once, installed some game but didn't play it so I don't think that was the reason. It was either the default browser or the contact list.
Thanks for the replies. I figured it was an app but wanted to be sure before I started deleting things. I was just worried that this might be something to do with hardware or something.
I have same problem with different roms and i don't know what to do...

I had the same problem I figured out it was my wifi being turned on all the time. I have always heard leaving your wifi on when it's availible was supposed to save battery but I checked in better battery stats and saw there was almost 7000 wakelocks in a 5 hour period. I turned wifi off problem solved I only turn it on when I need to.
It is happend even wifi is off.

Your battery might be going bad... take it out and spin it on a flat surface if it spins freely the battery is most likely done.
My battery have 3 months old. My s2 is new....

[Q] Power button stuck pushed in

I was using my Galaxy today and I pressed the power button to unlock it and it got stuck pushed in. The phone is now stuck in a boot loop because the power button is "pressed". I'm under warranty with T-Mobile, but I have sensitive information on the phone, which I'd really like to remove off this phone, as well as put it onto my new phone.
Is there a way to unstick the power button? Or maybe a way to get the data off the phone somehow?
Any help is appreciated - thanks.
I just tore the whole thing down, nothing can be done for the button. Damn it.
did u try the toothpick trick? also remove the battery and SD card use a cotton swab soaked with isopropl alcohol on drip it right into the power button while its torn apart and press like crazy

Haven't tried the toothpick trick - what is it?
I'll go buy some at CVS tonight and try it.

I tore it apart and fiddled with the power button a little bit, I'm 100% sure that the spring on it is dead, as it just wobbled around and moved in and out freely without resistance, but there was no click to it when I pressed it. No gunk on it or anything. Here's a picture.

Apparent Hard Brick - Any Hope?

Hey all, Search is not working for me, and I am in need of some help. Been using this Epic Touch for 2 years, but running custom ROMS for over a year.
I installed CM 10.1 official on my phone in September, and have had no issues since... Until this week.
I had had occasional reboots, but had one today, where the reboot then froze on the Samsung GSII logo. From what I know now (after googling), this is a soft brick. Not sure if i did something wrong by doing this, but just thinking it was a random reboot and brief issue, I rebooted again by holding power key...
This time, only the Blue LED comes on (steady), and the screen is completely black.
Again, I wasn't doing ANYTHING at the time this happened. Was not installing a ROM, was just charging phone when it went into the random reboot.
Is there anything I can do? I have insurance, but just ordered a LG G2 upgrade, so am only weeks away from a new phone. Don't want to pay the deductible for a phone i'll only have 2 weeks.
Thanks so much, guys.
Hmm, on the TEP site to even process a claim, only options are Water Damage, Physical Damage, Lost, Stolen.
So I guess I may have another option due to software failure? I'll head into a Sprint store and see what I can do.
So you have tried pulling the battery and going into recovery or download mode and flashing a new ROM?

Couldn't get to recovery. Just black screen. Seemed to be a complete brick, probably emmc.
I took it to a sprint store and they replaced it, free of charge, saying the board was completely gone.

Unfortunately they do happen. Nothing can be done about it with this phone, they're already out of production.

Yeah, they actually had an E4GT in the store to give me, so i barely waited 30 minutes.
I'm just gonna leave it stock for now, until I get my G2.
Just very weird that I hadn't flashed anything in weeks (almost 2 months), and it crapped out.

Battery help.

I've noticed a sharp decline in battery. With only 35 minutes of screen on I've already lost 11%. In this case, index service seems to be using a lot of battery, but this is the first time I noticed that. I was getting like 7 hours of screen on, now I'm getting about 5.

IndexService works hard when you add new docs/books, it scans all of them, then it should go away. For some reason it didn't find 1 or more files on my SD card, kept scanning for hours. Did you add anything new to tablet?

I downloaded a powerpoint and then converted it to a pdf. It seems like it just won't stop. Everyone I look at its running time it is increasing.

You could delete recently added/changed files and see what happens.

I restarted and now it seems like index service is still running frequently, but no longer nonstop. Regardless of index service my battery still seems to be worse by 2 hours. It was awesome for the first couple weeks and now its just average. I don't even have that many apps.

if you're rooted just freeze the indexer.

I'm holding off for rooting until Knox is circumvented. Plus I don't see recoveries or custom Roms yet so I don't have all that much incentive.

HELP! Phone wont turn on!

When i plug my charger in with no battery, The led turns red for about 15 seconds then turns off when the phone vibrates
when i plug my charger in with the battery, I get a flash screen showing a battery with a "refreshing" circle in it, The phone then starts to boot, Gets to the Samsung galaxy s3 screen and then dies.
When i go to download mode, It runs for a few seconds then dies
when i go to recovery mode, It runs for a few seconds and then dies.
I have no idea what to do, I do not have a warrenty.
If anyone knows of any fix to this please let me know.
Im completely comfortable with taking phones apart and im not scared to solder.
Please help. Im lost.
Tell us what did you do to your phone then it should help us out.

Same problem happened to my phone. Recovered after leaving it in a cool place for 24h. Probably caused by over heat.
Or you let the battery die and have the power button stuck. A common issue. Open it up and see if you can play with the button a little.
Go to a tmobile store and borrow a battery with a charge and see how it acts.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Last mod i did was booped kernel, was using fastcharge app... It charged fine... After it died however, its now in its currwnt state.
Sent from my C5170 using Tapatalk
The fact it turns off after a few seconds sounds just like the power button issue I mentioned. If you go to a T-Mobile store and borrow a good battery and it still happens you can be pretty sure its that button.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Ok so after playing with the power button ive got all the way to the cyanogen boot screen, not much... But its progress, gonna take the phone apart and try to fix this issue... Wish me luck.
