Hopefully just a quick and dirty question. I used esfile's note editor to edit the wifi scan interval on my build prop and it somehow caused AOKP to fail to boot. I fixed the issue and am running fine now, but can anyone recommend a safe way to edit the build prop while actually on Android?
I've used Rom Toolbox Pro to change my scan frequency without any issue. I have not tried on AOKP though.

I'm sure that it had something to do with the editor I was using. In the past, I would copy to internal, edit on PC, then push back to system. Esfile probably muffed up the formatting because when I rebooted, I got constant black screen after Samsung logo. A quick Odin of EL29 with cwm and a reflash of AOKP and all is well. But, I'd still like to be able to manually edit build prop on the device.
I was under the belief that ROM toolbox was a no no on the e4gt, especially ICS.
ROM toolbox mostly ok. ROM manager not ok

As stated above it ROM Manager that will not work with this phone on GB or ICS. Using it to load CWM on your phone can brick your phone. Rom Toolbox hasn't bricked a phone to my knowledge. It has caused bootloops when changing boot animation and fonts through it on ICS though. I haven't had any issues with changing build props on ICS though, but again I have not tried it on AOKP/AOSP/CM9 ROMs.

ROM toolbox worked well, thank you. Also, I guess the best benefit from this thread is clarification between ROM toolbox and ROM manager. Much appreciated!
Can anyone enlighten me as to why ROM Toolbox is the only thing that seems to work? I to have tried the ES File Explorer method, which worked perfect on my Evo 3D, but on E4GT it sticks at Samsung boot screen. I then booted into recovery, did adb pull, edited file on PC, and adb push back to phone. After rebooting I checked build.prop and it did not reflect the changes, just default settings (and yes I made sure to save the changes before pushing).
I unfortunately have only had the phone a week and it was shipped with FF18, so not sure what behavior was like before update. Pre-ICS, were you able to make manual edits to build.prop without issues?
Did you try wiki rootzbox? But unfortunately it's a paid app. You can ask first about your device compatibility from the dev before you buy it. Afterall it's created by Aokp rom dev.

I went ahead and got ROM Toolbox and it did work, I'm just curious as to why it works but a manual edit does not.
I believe es file inserts hidden stuff.

Perhaps, but like I said it worked on my 3d so why not here? And also curious why the adb push method fails.

Think i may have forgot it the first time, which may be why I booted back in with default values. But then again it did say adb push was completed. The second time i tried adb and made sure to remount first it resulted in stuck at boot again. Since ROM toolbox worked it's not a big deal anymore, but curiosity is still eating at me...

I have it in both root of SD and the "0" folder. EFS_BACKUPS if done in TWRP. If you did it with FreeGee then in root freegee.

The root folder efs? I believe it is different from Samsung. Searching for mk9efs from system root led me here - /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/ . Searching for efs from the system root doesn't supply much, the location I just posted and a few other folders like efs-bridge. Now I may be wrong on this, @engine95 knows more than I, but I am under the impression that our efs are on 3 separate partitions and may not be accessible from a root file explorer. I don't think we have a root efs "folder". Again, I am NOT 100% on this and could be completely wrong.......

I'm not quite sure what he's asking.
The EFS backup with TWRP creates an "EFS folder with 3 files in it.
And if I remember right... @HPTesla is right. EFS is in 3 partitions. One of them is actually empty, but is still needed.
You can see the mk9efs files in the folder but that's it. Im guessing FreeGee and TWRP are basically just taking a picture of the partitions.
So to the OP, are you trying to make sure the files are there? Or are you trying to access the files in there?

? You should be able to do it from within TWRP. It depends on the version of TWRP you are using, 2.5.0.0 has been the most stable for this phone in my experience. It's an option in my backup and restore that I can check/uncheck. However, TWRP 2.6.3.0+ is needed to flash almost all 4.4 based roms and the options are different.

If you are still using the same TWRP version you used to make the backup but switched to an AOSP based rom it appears as if the backup disappeared. The backup is located in /data/media/TWRP but TWRP will look in /data/media/0/TWRP. You can copy the old backup to the 0/TWRP folder and reboot recovery.
If you are using a different version of TWRP than the one you used to make the backup, your backup may also not show up. You should use the version you used to make the back up to restore it back. I hope this helps.

I was hoping to get some input from anyone running Cloudy flex 1.4 on their Sprint G2? I have never really had good experiences with mult-variant roms. I am currently stock unrooted ZVA but really like the look of the rom. I would consider flashing if there are some happy campers. What flashing procedure worked the best etc. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
I hear crickets. Lol. No one is running Cloudy Flex on their Sprint G2?

I have used it and it works great. You have to do a little bit of extra work because there's no menu option for downloading PRL and Profile though. To enable data, you need to flash a working stock-based rom, grab APN Backup and Restore from the play store, backup APNs, flash CloudyFlex, install /system/app mover from play store, make APN Backup and Restore a system app, reboot, run APN Backup and Restore, hit menu->disable ICS check, then restore APNs. Reboot again, and done. Everything should work perfectly.
I even got fantastic battery life using Dorimanx kernel.
Thanks for the post. Should be easy enough.

Has anyone gotten any of the Cloudyfa (CloudyFlex/Pro2/Stock) roms to work for our device? It boots fine (CloudyPro II) but I can't send texts or get data. If you have, can you tell me how you did it or point me in the direction of a thread/post that has instructions?
Thanks guys!

Hey so I actually got it working, LTE, SMS/MMS, and all (CloudyPro II, that is). It was working perfectly but after restoring it (I went back to the ZVC rom for a sec to backup my text messages), I ended up constantly getting the systemui FC over and over, even after another clean flash, so I had to restore back to my ZVC backup. I'll try again tonight though. Also, the camcorder does not work for the LS980, I tried with stock app, google cam, and snapchat, but that's a known issue over in the CloudyPro II thread.
Here's what I did:
1. backup APN with APN Backup and Restore from play store (*Move to "system/priv-app" folder for it to work in kitkat*)
2. backup with Titanium Backup and do a nandroid
3. wipe system, data, dalvik and cache
4. flash CloudyPro II and select LS980 in aroma (i also kept all the bloat, i think)
5. reboot
6. install and restore APN with APN Backup and Restore (have to move to "system/priv-app"again)
7. reboot (and fix permissions if you feel like it)
8. go into mobile networks and you should have the standard options (Global, LTE/CDMA, CDMA, etc.)
9. enjoy?
Also, the usim error for text messages seems to only happen in the stock messaging app, because when I switched to hangouts for sms, they sent without a hitch.
I hope this helps!
Thanks to those who suggested APN Backup and Restore!

What I find works is to start on rooted stock, download APN Backup and Restore, backup APNs, flash the rom you want to use, then install APN Backup and Restore and /system/app Mover from the play store using Wifi, use /system/app Mover to make APN Backup and Restore a system app, reboot, open APN Backup and Restore, hit menu and select "Disable ICS Check" then restore the APNs you backed up from stock.
Reboot, and enjoy working data, MMS and SMS.
Did that actually work on those 2 types?
I know I put Sprint apn's on cloudy flex but it didn't help

Cloudy Roms are stock based custom ROM's. We can flash if you have recovery other Roms that are KitKat base that will work on ls980.
There aren't many. And yet I remember someone showing a way how to manipulate a different ROM to possibly work.
Right now they work voice just not data. And no, APN is not the main problem.

i got tried it out today. it works i used auto-rec to put it on my phone. just like the op says u have to have a apn back up and system/app mover to make the apn back up app, a system app if that makes sense. back up your apns, your phone through twrp(thats what i used) and the flash the rom. then download apn back up again with system app mover, make apn back up app, a system app and restore your APN's.
tried using the APN Backup and Restore and keep getting an error message that says Android 4.0+ does not allow 3rd party apps to Write APN settings??
nevermind.... read how to make it a system app and disable ICS check

Hey peeps, I updated the OP (is that what people usually do in these situations? idk) with what I did to get CloudyPro II working. Hopefully the camcorder and knock code will get fixed soon. Besides those things, the rom actually runs pretty well :yay:

Yea, I ran 2.4 for the past few days....Sms over hangouts is fine, but I have been obsessed ever since I realized that the stock app had a notification bubble from the drop down...
The Pro port doesn't have what I like, plus it is more buggy than Flex...imho
Flex has features...plus the lock screen is fresh! Let's pull our heads together and figure this out around the apn trick because from my experience as far as Flex is concerned that is not needed...
NFC is not working cursed by NXP chip
But evrythink else is working good :good:
Could some one point me to a stock zvc KitKat rom. I'm completely stock and rooted right now on zvc but when I changed my DPI it somehow made my quick remote stop working and my stock keyboard. Both kept force closing. I tried replacing both in system and apps and changing permissions and flashing the remote flashable zip. I figured if someone had a flash able zip I could just flash without downgrading and doing a lot of unnecessary steps to fix things. I don't see any custom or stock lg ROMs for this phone.

There isn't one, only the OTA for now.
use the tot file in the general section then root again
Just use another kb for the time being. You can use App Settings in Xposed and change the dpi on those two apps back to stock 480 settings.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Make sure build.prop is how it was before you edited, otherwise the original dll for Tot flashing fails, well you can use the one labeled "use if having problems" as it works either way with that dll.
Thanks guys back up and running fine. That program remind me of Odin easy to use.
