Ive had this problem for a long time. through 4.2.2, 4.3, and 4.4 roms (various ROMs, including CM, Beanstalk and Slim). I can only enable LTE by going to more>mobile network>at&t before i can select LTE. it always default on WCDMA and it will revert back to WCDMA after reboot. any one have a fix for this?

Try *#*#4634#*#* then Device Information. You can select the band you want and it seems to work.

Dial *#*#info#*#* and go to phone then turn your LTE back on. Also some KitKat Roms have a toggle that does this that you can put in your notification toggles.

I'm experiencing the same issues. I'm on Straight Talk. My LTE will not stick for long, regardless of all the methods I have tried. My text msgs were delayed sending and receiving. Straight Talk claimed that ATT had been experiencing outages in my area (Los Angeles), but I never called ATT direct to confirm this. WCDMA is the only thing that will stick, although I haven't tried LTE anymore in the last two days....

I'm having a problem with my phone on AT&T. It is switching between H and 3G pretty often, and only H actually functions for data. This is pretty painful, especially when trying to stream Pandora.
I'm looking for help on how to analyse what is happening.
1. How can I see what band it is trying to use on 3G?
2. Is there a way to force it to always use H or EDGE, never 3G?
3. Is there a way to tune the 3G radio for AT&T USA?
4. Is it possible that now that the kernel source is released, the frequency issues can be fixed with kernel drivers?
According to Omega.net, here are the frequencies in my area:

Quick additional questions:
Is AT&T screwing with my signal? Would it make sense to modify the /system/build.prop to masquerade as a different phone?
Would modifying the /system/build.prop allow me to disable all but UTMS-II and UTMS-V?
ro.ril.imc.band=900,1800,1900,850
ro.ril.imc.uband="UMTS_BAND_I","UMTS_BAND_II","UMTS_BAND_V","UMTS_BAND_VIII"
I'm going to try disabling fast dormancy and see how that goes ala this thread:

So far this change has had no effect. I still can't run speedtest.net for example, because it drops from H to 3G, then renegatiates to H again.
All I did was change the build.prop and reboot. Any idea if I have to do something more?
What APN are you using? the default one?
Mine changes to 3G, but only when not using data.......I've had this with every phone besides the Galaxy Nexus which stayed on H most of the time.
But I haven't tried streaming music, as I dont haha...I have it all on my phone.
Try using the Phone APN.
Create a new apn and type in phone for "Name" and phone for "APN" leave the rest blank and save, then click it to enable

It is quite simple to enable as well. You can do it through the app pimp my rom (which I am not affiliated with).
Note: This only works for stock roms running stock kernals with root. Also the tower/network in your area must have it turned on.
Step one: Obtain root. It is required.
Step two: download pimp my rom app from the play store.
Step three: in the app go to tweaks and select telephony
Step four: on the bottom turn on amr-wb
You're done!
When will you notice a difference?
You will notice a difference on 3g/4g only. You will also only notice the difference when calling landlines or other people with amr-wb enabled. However other people will notice you sound clearer.
Warning: amr-wb will NOT be active on edge or gprs service. I take no responsibility for this working or not working on your device or any damage caused by the use if this guide.

I enabled it too. Call quality doesnt sound any different. I can tell the difference when im on wifi calling.
This is the command in build.prop to enable... I remember seeing this line since CM7. Sadly, tmobile is the only one to enable it since most have gone to lte which if I'm not mistaken high voice qual isn't even enabled until lte advanced (volte). Voice qual in amr wb won't be too noticeable unless the other caller is tmo and has it enabled or maybe on land line. Maybe all carriers should switch it on until lte advanced. Thank goodness tmobile is starting with it or so I hear.

Made both the CSC edit and the build.prop modification and no change so far. Currently running my own kitbash of the N7105XXDMC3 ROM and kernel.
Update: I finally got around to making it work a while ago: you actually need to factory reset the phone for the related CSC settings to engage.
For minimal hassle:
-Apply appropriate CSC edits to your ROM. (There was a so-called "universal enabler" that forced WB-AMR on all networks, leading to no in-call audio on incompatible networks, not good.)
-Backup your whole phone through CWM or TWRP
-Factory reset
-Skip through setup menus, check that WB-AMR is activated through service mode menus.
-Reboot to recovery and restore backup. Check that WB-AMR is still active, make a test call just in case.
Done.
Dial this number to enter service mode to check just fyi... *#197328640#*
It seems like you need to be running stock or something because I've been unable to get it working on 4.1.2 Jedi. Either that or there might be something we're missing. OP needs to clarify what rom/kernel/modem version he's using.

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I'm not picking up an LTE signal when a friend on a phone tells me to just toggle to LTE in mobile network settings. The only problem is, that doesn't exist on my phone for some reason. All that appears in my mobile network settings is "Mobile data", "Data roaming", "Access Point Names" and "Network operators"...nothing to switch between networks. Why isn't my device displaying this setting?
Did you used to have LTE? Have you added the proper APN settings for your carrier?
Re: No option to toggle between networks?!
Yeah im running the same rom and my LTE works fine. You probably need to flash the K7 modem. There are no settings to switch. Only aosp roms have that option.

No i had an iPhone 5 previous to my note 2 so no LTE (carrier didn't have LTE for them until just a couple days ago.) I have added the APN settings correctly. There is an option within the APN settings called "bearer" where i have the option to select LTE but when i set it to that, i get no data at all so I have to set it back to "unspecified"
If your carrier only got LTE a few days ago your sim card/plan might not have LTE enabled. That possible in your case?

In the"phone information" app, go to "device information" (first option) and from there you change the "set preferred network type" to LTE only or whatever you want. You can force lte, force Edge(gsm), basically any combo you want to do is available from this menu.

I download the app called "phone info" as the app "phone information" does't seem to exist. There is no first option called device information. As soon as i open the app, i'm on a page when its just a big list of my phones info
It was my ROM that wasn't giving me the option to chose a network mode. I went back to factory and viola it was there. BUT...no WCDMA/LTE option. Only GSM/HSPA. I've been told that there aren't enough towers to support all of the LTE devices, would this be the cause of LTE not showing up in the network mode? I would think that it would still let me chose LTE and just bump me down to HSPA if it couldn't connect. What're your thoughts guys?
Bump!
What CSC are you using? There are some CSC settings that could hide the "LTE" string in network settings, making it go from LTE/GSM/WCDMA, GSM only, WCDMA only to GSM/WCDA, GSM, WCDMA. That was only cosmetic in my case though. (Been a while since I've run the T889V ROM, I expect the I317M's to be similar in that respect.)

In wifi tether routing settings its under device settings
Same performance as free native
I tried this hoping it would be better than the native tether i found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541900&page=35. The TrevE mod was great. I hope they figure out how to git it going with the 4.3

I used the same settings and it worked perfectly on my Sprint GN2 (stock rooted, Knox removed) I was able to connect my tablet and my net-book at the same time, Range seems pretty good too about 40' away and 3 rooms over from my phone, still had full bars.
I was only able to test on 3G at the moment (no 4G at the house yet)
I hope this works as good on 4G, i will test it out over the next few days.
Anyone NOT have this work yet? I've tried all the options stated above and I don't get an IP no matter what. The SSID does broadcast but no IP is ever obtained. Have an email into the dev but I'm hoping maybe one of you has run into this.
Thanks
Dave
Can someone please tell me where the setting is to turn off VoLTE.
Found it.
Go to settings and search for Phone click it scroll down to VoLTE.
Hope turning it off helps my battery.

Open the phone app like you're going to make a call, click on more, then settings, call settings section, Voice over LTE Settings, Do Not Use VoLTE, then hit ok.
Depending on who you call most, VoLTE will actually help your battery.
I have a tmobile version of the s6 and i dont have the menu for turning on/off VoLTE..what to do?

You aren't on latest firmware update, you need to check for latest update for your model.
Then update.
Pp.
Im on the latest firmware 5.1.1.
Is there a newer one?

Maybe you need a 925T with tmobile in order to get the VoLte setting.

Check your baseband version: Settings > About Device (all the way at the bottom) > Baseband Version. You should see a string like G920TUVS3DOJC, that's the latest update; not sure which one added VoLTE, but I know OJ7 had it. This page has a list of the versions.
Just for the record don't think the SM-920F has VoLte setting.

There is a bug that causes Cell Standby to just eat through battery power. I've had mine off since I got my Edge but with all the updates I have not tried it again.
I may want to give it a try since I typically go into the band selection menu and lock in on LTE band 4 (band 12 at work has horrible speeds for data), but that causes me to miss calls since the phone can't switch to HSPA to take the call.

What I meant was to make sure you are up to date with all the carrier / manufacturer updates and you too can see the words floating out of the speaker, this VoLte is like magical unicorns and my battery lasts me a-long-time.
I can't remember when was the last time I plugged a charger wire into my phone.
Oh, I forgot I use a wireless charging pad :sly: ??? Lol.
