[Q] Ubuntu Touch? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Anyone working on Ubuntu Touch for the HTC One? Gonzalezb was for a bit but ended up abandoning it. Was just curious if anyone else had it in the works. Would be awesome to see on our device.

It isn't very functional for the most part. Basically it is just a demo. At least the last time I tried it was mostly a demo. The only major feature that worked was WiFi then.

I know most people here would rather not have it but I could really use it if someone has a working version for the Inc2. Lost it after root/CM7.
The free one works the same... And it's free

Hello fellow Xda bros!

Hi guys, so I'm planning on getting am S3 for Christmas. I just wanted your recommendation. There is a new HTC device coming that I would really want, but after seeing what HTC did to us amaze users and other devices... I'm sceptic. But anyway, I'm leaning over to the s3. Is it any good?

I came from the Amaze, other than the camera, the S3 is in every way superior. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a hardcore HTC fanboy.
I came from a g2.
I'm blown away man. I don't see using anything else for awhile. This is all I need. So fast and fluent and hardly cheap feeling, the way I hear others describe Samsung phones. You won't be let down.

I remember you from the amaze. This phone is ten times the phone that the amaze was. Minimal issues too. Light weight, big screen and fast. I love this phone.

Ubuntu Phone OS - Let's Find it and Port It!

Alright guys here is the video shown on the Galaxy Nexus in case you have been living under a rock for the past few days...
Everywhere I look I cannot find anywhere where it has been released to begin working on getting it to our Note 2. Let us update this thread and eventually turn it into a "How-To" once we slap together something that works.
Any thoughts to get the ball rolling?

They said they will be releasing a flashable zip for the galaxy nexus sometime in the future. So I would think you would have to wait til that.

Yeah I figured that this is all that we can do is wait, but does anyone know where it will be dropped first?
I think it is dropping during ces so like next week sometime, very excited about this.

I think its kind of like a mash up of wp and android. To me I don't know if I like it yet I don't think, it looks like everything big and they didn't utilize the realist ate they have. And that looked a little slow, if you watch on some of the transactions and I like the ability to have buttons and menus. I'll have to play with it when its out but so far I'm not sure

Looks like a themed version of miui to me. Nothing special but im not a ubuntu user.
excited to see what they bring to the table
android may not be as stagnant as iOS, but it's going to be neat having an ubuntu OS. I run it on my windows machine as another boot option and find it useful and fairly intuitive.
will be looking forward to news for this.
I think the ability to have a full fledged operating system on a phone is an amazing idea.
What those videos where showing was a Nexus running a Ubuntu operating system, with some sort of mobile theme applied. Once the device is docked it could be used as a desktop solution. Or plugged into a TV, or a laptop etc.
This is something the mobile market has never seen before.

I have a big concern about Ubuntu's history of ignoring feedback over the last few years. They've been making very heavy handed design decisions with the excuse that Linux users are 'free' to change things around if they want, but that attitude won't cut it in the consumer mobile market.

I've always enjoyed Ubuntu, not this new Unity thing but with Gnome classic it's been great. So I would definitely give this a try.
Ive been looking for ubuntu phone os for almost 2 years lol since they released there website ... Ubuntu can we get some leakage love hehe
This would be perfect for the note 2, with huge screen and pen as mouse... using a skin launcher like unity on a phone would be great, laptop/desktop unity is junk... and have a full terminal my favorite part with connection to tv and bluetooth keyboard/mouse ...
Cant wait for this to drop

The trick with our phone is going to be the s pen support. I can't wait for ubuntu on my phone.

i can't wait for this. hopefully it doesn't take long for a port, and a multi boot kernel for the n2 would be awesome just waiting patiently at this point.

"A specific date in unknown but it’s probable that the release will coincide with Canonical’s appearance at the Mobile World Congress 2013, being held between 25 – 28th of February." still over a month away
Now, there is a date:
Canonical announced the release of the image for the nexus and the source code as well, for the 21st of February. They will flash every phone they get at the MWC from 23 - 25.
Hopefully, someone will manage to port it for the sgn2, soon.
Can't wait to try it out! Even though functionality will be very basic at first... The only thing that worries me is whether the Ubuntu install will repartition our phone. It would be a bit of a ***** in that case

It seems like a difficult process. In oder for Ubuntu to run smoothly, it needs to be ran as a complete operating system. As was shown on those videos. What we can do today is run Ubuntu virtually, which, for obvious reasons, will be significantly slower.
Once the code is dropped, we have to find a way to port it over to our Notes. Which means finding specific drivers. If Samsung supports this (which I doubt) it would make the process that much simpler.
That and I'm assuming the confirmed working devices, Nexus S, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will all have a dual boot option from Android to Ubuntu. We don't have that option... Yet...
No support? I'd switch to the Nexus 4. Seriously. That's how badly I would love to have Ubuntu on my phone Lol. Id throw away LTE, expandable memory and a killer battery to have that OS in my hands.

The initial release will be very basic. No exchange email support from what I understand and no app store for starters. So you can only use what they give you as far as apps. Won't be fun with no apps to install and use.

Really? If it's a desktop OS, why nothing will work? I'm using Thunderbird it's pretty good email client.
P.S. I'm really excited to try Ubuntu, it's my the only OS for last 6 or 7 years. What can be better then to use the same OS everywhere

Hello everyone. I have a question for you. What was the first phone you rooted?

Topic. Epic 4g took me a month to get the courage to root it.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Evo Shift 4G. Rooting from 2.3.4 was so hard for me. Literally took 2 days of work to do. Glad I did though!
Sent From My Rooted, S-OFF'd Blackberry Curve using the iOS XDA Application for Android.
The DROID eris. It took me a bit to find out what root was so when I found out I rooted it right away. Then I got a g2x

Samsung Moment... Sadly every single rom had bugs though so it wasn't much better than stock

I think I may have watch qbking77 videos like a good 20 times before I took the plunged and rooted. Every phone I get I root before I activate. Same goes when I get my note 2 hopefully in like 2 weeks well I'm still thinking it. Who decides to go android may as well learn about rooting.

My SGS3, was rooted maybe 2 days after TeamEpic released their root from recovery.
OG Evo. Rooted using toast's root method
OG evo rooted with unrevoked one click

I had a Motorola cliq, t-mobile.
No one had to root the Tmobile G1 or the Mytouch 3G? Dang, that was my first devices. Having to use gold cards and then using sd cards that had the ext partitions to make the first version of the Hero Sense work on the G1.
OG EVO
Took me a couple months to build up the courage to do it, but it started with an HTC Hero... And then every phone I could get my hands on after it. Everyone's phone. Nothing is safe around me. Turn your back and you'll be wondering what that SU app is.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
First rooted phone was an evo shift on 2.3.3, and then later the same phone (but a replacement) on 2.3.4
Didn't take me too long to decide to root, I rooted about a week after I learned what root was

I rooted my OG Epic from the command line using adb commands - I downloaded all of the files and read every guide I could find a couple days in advance, but I hadn't found XDA or the one-click packages yet (it was the Epic's release week, so the scripts might not have existed yet).

HTC touch. Ran rooted Android on windows mobile phone.

G2 for HTC One

Hi everyone, I have the g2 right now. I need to know if the 4.3 Roms last at least a day. I tried the one for a week and I liked it but I ended up going with a g2. What does the HTC one offer that the g2 does not? Also, I am willing to make a phone for phone trade if anyone is interested.

I was choosing between the two phones also and went with the One because of the differences between the other G2s and the VZW. I fiugred thered be no cases around for the VZW one.
Im so happy I went with the one. Im able to pull off 6hr screen on time regularly.
How do you guys get that much battery?? The battery is good but I just set things up normally with no battery saving control at all and get max 4 hours screen on and about 13-15 hours total which is pretty good imo.

I sent you a pm about trading an HTC one for your G2. Let me know if your still interested.
First post, so bear with me...but I think the biggest difference between the two is the build quality and form factor. I was all for getting the G2 because those specs are unreal and it has good dev support, but that shiny back turns me off and it's a tad too big for me. The One has great roms, very good specs, and the form factor is still the best one on the market right now in my opinion.
I love my one but I wish it had the bigger screen.
Do you still have the G2?
Think the g2 is big. You should check out the one max
Sent from my HTC6600LVW using xda app-developers app
I had the g2 for a day. Then switched back to the One. Speakers did it for me. Once i got used to the one's speakers, i couldn't handle the g2 speakers.
If you don't care for that feature, the g2 is a great phone. Also, to me the One feels like a higher quality phone when holding it. The g2 is well made im sure, but the one is a higher quality build imho. Just my 2cents.
