I hope someone can help me, this is driving me up the wall.
I've got a t0lte. I've been using the H3G image for it for a few months, with no problems with the network apart from not going onto LTE, and massive problems with Bluetooth (it seems Samsung suck at it). So I installed OmniROM 4.4.2. After a few days, I started getting up to 50% packet loss. I switched to CM11, same thing. Then on to SlimKat, as someone on #omnirom suggested it might be the RIL, but it wasn't that. I tried two other modems, didn't help. I then tried OmniROM 4.3.1, same thing, and CM10.2, same thing. Tried the latest modem I could find, XXUENA1, same thing.
People have suggested it might be a carrier issue (I'm on H3G), but I can't fathom how. I don't experience any packet loss on the stock H3G image I downloaded. But now they are rolling out LTE, I need something that can get on it.
I've hunted through the interwebs and can't find anything matching this.
Can anyone help?
Steve
I've been doing some further investigation, and it seems as if what's happening, which might be the cause, or a symptom, is that it's switching between HSDPA and DC-HSDPA constantly. I'm not sure if that switch is a function of the firmware, or something on the mast side, can anyone offer any advice/experience on that?

Ok, I tried the MB2 modem from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031575 , but that didn't make any difference. I also tried changing one of the build.prop settings for the downswitching, and that didn't work either.
Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to be stuck on the crappy Samsung software

Need some help here. I never usually need help, been modding everything possible on Android for years now. But can't figure this one out, getting worried.
Had my LTE Nexus since launch day. No issues like this before.
Been on all Team Kang AOKP toro ROM updates since release, always on the latest. Stock kernel. Was on build 20 since it came out.
Yesterday at work, had a few bugs from probably not data wiping from build 19, so I wiped it all and re-flashed 20 again. Restored Titanium and started re-setting things up, I believe these are the only things I did. I was at work where I would normally have minimal, but some, service.
Ever since around there, I have not once had a bit of 3G or 4G service. I have not seen the 3G logo for even an instant, only few, gray bars. Wifi works fine of course. It's possible I even lost service before wiping and re-flashing, but I can't recall or didn't notice.
I tried all the usual stuff, wiping everything again, re-flashed AOKP 20, re-flashed other/older ROMs, re-flashed latest radio, restored old Nandroid backups, pulled battery and sim card and put back/rebooted...NOTHING IS WORKING. Also, I have driven through several towns since yesterday so I know it's not a local outage. Also, other people with Verizon phones here have service fine.
I have basically torn the phone down software-wise and nothing has fixed the issue. I still have no service. Each time I re-flash a ROM, it always makes me go on Wifi when it wants me to sign into Google...it never picks up mobile service then or after.
The About>Status screen says:
Network: Verizon Wireless
Signal Strength: shows an actual number reading that changes
Service State: In Service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Please suggest things I can try, but I guaranteed I have already tried them. Can't understand or imagine what is causing this, because I did nothing different than I normally do.
Also, I posted this on Rootz as well, and many replies so far. Still no luck though.
If you have an idea I can try, maybe post there instead at this point for me?
Thanks guys in advance.

It seems a radio problem. Try to flash the stock ROM from Google.

Well I did go back to many random earlier, more stock custom ROMs in hopes of a fix, but nothing so far. I am currently back on the stock 4.0.2 ROM that is rooted and deodexed by Bigxie, but I guess I can go all the way back to stock 4.0.1 or 0.2. Will try now.
Went to Verizon and it looks like the sim card swap did it. The girl there was nice and did it without hesitation for me.
She showed me in her computer how under my family account, it wasn't even fully showing my device or something like that. Not sure if it wasn't there at all or if it just didn't show that I had a 4g phone activated on the account...but I'm sure it was related.
Sucks to have to get a swap and still don't know what caused it or if its related to flashing roms, but at least it works! No issues since...
It is possible, but unlikely and no reasonable explanation, that your sim somehow got affected doing all the flashing and stuff.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
So, I figured I'd share since I couldn't find much information on the forums about this.
I recently, within last few weeks, started having issues with the modem on my GNex.
I had been running a ROM derived from AOSP Jelly Bean without issue, except the modem seemed to get poor signal quality.
I tried to upgrade the modem once the official Sprint JB release of FH05 started spreading.
At some point afterwards it seemed the modem would inexplicably start to die periodically... (By die I mean the status would change to searching and/or not connected and the status icon would change to no service icon). I could sometimes trigger life back in at times by toggling CDMA/LTE or CDMA Only options or the data enabled options or rebooting...
I went through a period of continually trying to reflash the various radios FD02, FC12, FH05... all in an attempt to get stability.
I had persistent issues even trying to flash the radios. The LTE radio would always flash fine, but the CDMA radio would often hang in flashboot forcing me to sever connection and restart.
This never seemed to fix the issue and I began to think I might either have bad flash memory on the radio partition or there was a problem with the radio hardware causing this issue.
I then remembered I had dropped the phone on concrete and it landed on the modem side of the phone... phone seemed fine besides a few new dings, but operated ok. I considered maybe this had something to do with the state of things.
Last night I took my phone back off using these instructions: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Teardown/7182/1
I basically just jostled the internals a bit hoping to fix maybe a simple misalignment...
It has been a solid 12 hours and everything seems to be running strong.
This is purely speculation, but given that I haven't been able to consistently replicate any scenario other than it not working... I am hoping this is the fix.
I hope it might help someone else, or someone else with a similar problem can confirm or provide alternate conclusion.

Tried to sell phone on ebay because the wifi adapter was showing issues with range... I bought another and it was clear that the range of the older phone was having issues...
Tried to sell on ebay and buyer couldn't activate... just sent back and I can't get it to accept a flash at all... maybe trying the taking apart trick again...
Crazy
Let me begin by saying that I've looked far and wide for answers, and solutions, but haven't found any that work yet. So I'd like to go through the process of what happened, and what my fix is really going to be.
- ATT GSIII Stock 4.1.2, was rooted using the CF Auto-Root Method.
- We installed CWM Touch recovery, and flashed the rooted stock image.
- This is immediately where we started seeing issues with LTE, etc. in a known-good LTE area. We were getting "G" and "E" from that point on.
- From here, I noticed that we had lost the IMEI (was set to 0), so I followed the process to get that restored using QPST.
- After the IMEI was back to normal, nothing got better. LTE wouldn't show up, etc.
- I checked into the APNs, and there were several, so I removed the ones not needed, and kept only the one that was correct. STILL no LTE.
- At this point, since we were going to AOSP anyway, we decided to flash Slim 4.2.2 Build 8. Had the same issues, so I verified APN, Network Modes, IMEI, etc. Everything is there that needs to be.
- Once in a WHILE, we get LTE in a known-good area for a few minutes, but most of the time it's "G" or "E". Calls drop, sound is bad, etc. We tried several of the baseband modems with no desired results.
What part of this process causes this to happen to the ATT GSIII? Is it the root method? Because we had this issues so early in the rooting/flashing process, I would think whatever happened there is still an issue with the phone.
The IMEI is correct, so I don't think that can be it.. or can it? Would calls, texts, data work with an IMEI that isn't correct?
Network Mode is correct: LTE/GSM/WCDMA
CDMA Subscription is set for NV (I know this is RUIM/SIM in VZW GSIIIs). Is NV Correct? I've seen some posts about fixing NV Data.. might this be the issue?
I really have nothing else I can think of. I've been a rooted-flasher for a few years now, and root a lot of phones. I had issues with my d2vzw along the lines of the issue I'm having with the d2att phone, but I was able to fix those fairly easily.
Now I've been reading an I know these issues occur when you flash a 4.2 AOSP build.. so maybe that's when it got really bad for us? But agian, I've gone through all of the check points, and it looks as if everything is in order.
I'm flat out of ideas..
Help? I'm willing to donate, compensate, etc. And if you happen to be in NYC, could even pay someone to help fix.
Many many thanks and internets ahead of time.
I am having the same problem as yours. Been a flashaholic since the beginning of this year. Tried various custom ROMs (CM, AOKP, PA, Rootbox, Revolt, PACman, JellyBAM, Carbon, Slimbean, LiquidSmooth; you name it). Currently I'm using (and happy with) Dirty Unicorn, however earlier last month I noticed that I have not been receiving LTE. Even worse, I can't get a better data speed than EDGE. I have to mention though that I have unlocked my phone and switched to T-Mobile. I'm not sure when I started experiencing this problem since I am very sure that I had LTE on my phone two months earlier. Like you, I also had to restore my IMEI after it turned to 0. I've tried going back to stock and unrooted but that also did not help. I really hope we can find what's wrong with our phones.
Look i normally dont ask for to much help ive been around a bit know more then the average bear. I also fix hardware.
My problem is my data radio will not switch on from any attempt:
Attempted solutions:
Dialed
*#*#4636#*#*
Will not switch on from that screen
Did the obvious and switched on and off airplane mode
Replaced the entire build.prop file with a very stock build.prop after flashing stock jelly bean
Repeated steps for all stock firmware
Newest attempt wiped the entire system partition through recovery forcefully bricking the phone. I have now flashed the original stock e980 stock 10p tot file still no luck
My phone is completely unlocked fully rooted.
I've replaced the data permission files.
And I know its not the SIM card because the SIM card is in the phone I'm using right now which is an LG g2 unlocked which is for sale by the way.
And if it is a hardware problem I have not found any related video or thread to help me find an exchange where the radio is on this thing
Help me please if anybody has any idea?
Cool no help, hey moderator can u move this to thread that may get more help that would be awesome
i came looking around here because my g pros radio stopped working sometime last night while i was asleep and was about to make a thread asking for help, but seeing as how you haven't got much i doubt i would either. but ill give you a little info on mine, will it help you out at all? not sure. but i know it might make me feel a little better.
I flashed Vanir 4.4.4 last week coming from Beanstalk 4.4.4 cause beanstalk was getting buggy from all the ugly mods i subjected it to. so all was well with Vanir till i woke up this morning and had no service, no calls, no network, AND even if i connected to a wifi network it seemed that i couldn't get any data from it. I tried flashing madmacks modem cause who knows, maybe thatll help, but it diddnt. So then i flashed a different kernel and changed TCP protocols cause who ****ing knows, but it did nothing. THEN i restored my older Beanstalk 4.4.4 backup sure that it would work flawlessly but guess what, same problem. Now that im back on Beanstalk i went to the "Network Operators" option under "Mobile network settings" and selected ATT, which is my service provider, i can now make calls and texts but still no data, when i did this on Vanir it did not help. So i started messing with my "preferred network type" and realized i have data on 2G, but not 3G or LTE. Im gonna take a wild guess and say that maybe if you flash your phone back to 100% stock your radio should start working again, as much as i dont want to, i might end up doing that as well.
tl:dr
similar problem, i dont really know ****, easiest option = go back to stock, hope it works.
@Fant0m3 @alb-o
Have you guys checked if your rom shows your imei?
I have had this problem twice. My IMEI disappeared and I don't know how.
Your symptoms match.
If that's the case you could take it to a repair shop and they'll fix it in a minute or two. Or, you can check around xda.
thats a good point, when i was looking around XDA earlier i saw a few mentions of it but diddnt see anything very specific and was late for class so diddnt have time to look for too long. strangely enough mine actually started working normally again after i kept switching from 2G to 3G to LTE, which is great. but if i would've known that info earlier i could have checked if my IMEI disappeared while my radio still wasn't working, i assume it probably did.
after searching around more i found this thread that talks about it and how to prevent it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857054
thanks for the help g0at1, hopefully this helps out the OP if he hasn't already fixed the problem, or anyone else that comes across this.
nope
I've flashed back stock numerous times even flashed other versions such as e988 and back again if u dint know how to do that just change your build number in your build prop file...I've tried everything I am downt to antenna cable SIM reader or cell radio.. If radio I might as well just give up cause I can't find one for sell anywhere...I'm not so pressed as I'm using the LG g2 and it's so fast stable and a bit slimmer I think I'm gonna keep it but I would like to fix it and sell it though...... My symptoms are mentioned and all tried fixes are there. Imei is read carrier is not WiFi is received but there is an X above the data bars phone is fully unlocked as well
This may help also but it does not read my imei when the SIM is not in hmm maybe I will rework the imei code and get back if that works. I will keep updated when fixed and with solution
Hi all, from what I've read this is a documented problem, but I haven't really found a satisfactory answer for it yet.
I live in a college town with various areas of bad receptions (such as buildings). When I lose connectivity in an area of bad reception, occasionally I will not regain reception once I move back into an area where I should. I then have to toggle Airplane mode to get reception again.
I also have a history of failing to receive texts from people sometimes, and it's starting to really annoy me.
I've flashed many roms, updated firmwares from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, including bootloader, radio, and more, and it still happens. Has anyone else experienced this problem and managed to fix it, before I move to another phone as a last resort?

I have a similar problem as well. Radio drops out, need to restart my phone constantly. If I recycle the radio (turn airplane mode on/off), the phone locks up and reboots.
Having trouble finding ANY guidance on firmware for this issue :/
More info needs to be posted like current rom/firmware, past roms/flashes or processes used , custom or stock recovery. All this will help others help you.

Found this post, seems to be what I was looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59443804&postcount=158
For background, I'm running the latest Dirty Unicorns 5.0.2 release. Went to that from 5.0.2 GPE official. Device version is TMO M919.
What modem are you currently on?
You can flash the latest nk2 modem using Odin and try it out , if that doesn't work you can try NH7.
