Hey there. I just got a Galaxy Nexus and was finding performance issues, so I unlocked, rooted and installed CM. I LOVE it!
Stripped a LOT of unneeded apps, ensured no waitlocks and tweaked settings for performance/battery life: but my battery drains %10/hr while doing nothing
Any recommendations are appreciated, I'd hate to return to stock and have all of the leaky bloatware.
Is it possible using app ops/privacy guard has put services/background tasks in a loop? Should I disable them? Since my phone is rooted I am concerned regarding security.
Thanks so much.

Hello all, just picked up a pair of Evo's last night for my girl and myself, upgraded from a Samsung Moment, I had it rooted and used a custom ROM, so not afraid of the rooting process, i have been reading the boards all morning but was wondering if people could give me some quick advice to get me started with the Evo.
Basically what I am looking for is this:
a basic ROM,looking for performance and extended battery life but not at the sacrifice of stability
would like to have tethering
something that doesn't have ALL of the stock apps removed, i will pick and choose those that i need but zap the ones that i don't ( amazon MP3, NASCAR Sprint zone etc).
a couple of quick questions:
how does the HTC Sense affect performance battery life?
if it does affect it what is a solid replacement ( i used quick launcher pro on my moment)
a couple of links or suggestions would be awesome thanks in advance for any help!

ah, misread that- you don't want the stock apps removed. steelh has the stock rooted deodexed rom available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743781
you can pick what to pull out, but it's otherwise stock.
not sure how sense is on battery life, but my battery life definitely improved when i moved to cyanogenmod 6
i just installed the latest baked snack with kernel #5. battery is great; it's a mostly-stock experience; and it's stable and smooth.
try this..
Niefs Rom Comparison

Most roms will create a folder of the removed stock apps on the sd card for you to reinstall if you like.
Real quick,
1. Do I loose all the apps I installed? (I'll just reinstall them I assume?)
2. Can I get rid of the preinstalled apps that keep running?
3. Is it fairly easy to overclock when screen clicks on, and underclock when its clicked off?
4. What is the best kernel for stability and battery life?
5. Whats the most stable ROM for stability and battery life?
Both me and my girlfriend use the G2 and we love them. I just want to milk the hardware a bit more
Also added another line with the MT4G going to do that one next :0
Wrap Up. I'm trying to get the snappiest, most stable, running G2, with the longest battery life. Please help, I've been trolling and reading these for a while, just wanted to repost the information in case anything has changed/updated. Cheers from Minneapolis!

Just rooting won't make you lose anything; the only time you'll have to reinstall apps is when you flash a new ROM as you need to do a full wipe however, Market will start to reinstall them on its own.
When you root, you can do whatever you want, including removing stock apps. Titanium Backup has a feature to remove apps (be sure to make a backup though, incase something breaks)
Overclocking requires an overclocked kernel and SetCPU has profiles to allow screen on/off settings.
Pershoots kernel is generally viewed as the best however, it doesn't work with the stock ROM or Sense ROMs; for the stock ROM try Baconbits (v3 is the latest, I believe).
Most ROMs are generally equally stable, which to choose depends on what you like. Most use CyanogenMOD though, there are many to choose from.

Regardless of the rom/kernel, you'll get pretty sweet battery life

Not neccessarily; just rooting doesn't give one better battery life, Sense ROMs generally have worse battery lives, Pershoot under-volts giving better battery life, etc.
The only way just rooting your device gives you better battery life is that it allows you to remove the carrier installed bloatware that runs at startup.

I'm sorry if this is a really nooby question but I'm a beginner and I just want to know everything I can before I do anything. So currently the issues that I'm finding with my phone is that I have tons of background apps running and draining my battery (even after I've disabled background processes on most of them), heaps of bloatware, slow loading speeds for apps/internet and a super laggy keyboard (I'm currently using Google Keyboard but I have this issue with the stock Samsung keyboard as well). Ultimately what I want to know is: would rooting help my phone be much faster, have less lag, and just give it an overall smoother experience?

I am a beginner as well, and I can't believe I didn't root sooner. After installing the latest stable version of Cyanogenmod I have been so much happier with my phone. Even if you do not want a custom ROM (though I highly recommend it) you can still freeze bloatware and other unwanted apps using Titanium Backup.

Thanks for replying! Do you know which features I may be missing if I choose to root without installing a custom ROM? I'm still not sure if I want to stick to the basics or go full-on..

It depends on the ROM. I wanted something close to stock Android because I was tired of Touchwiz. It has become boring for me and I like the clean UI that Cyanogenmod offers.

Installing a custom ROM is one way to go. I have been giving the latest touch wiz stock Rom update (4.1.2) and I have had few issues. I am rooted and I have disabled apps I don't use. I even debloated. There is no right or wrong way to go. Try some ROMs and go with what you like best.

Hi All
i just rooted and installed titanium and was hoping to get an idea what I can uninstall from LG, without sacrificing stability, that will improve battery life.
I've already uninstalled McAfee, I think thats improved battery tremendously.
Anyone suggest anything else ?

Hey Guys,
I am going to coachella (camping) this year and want to maximize my battery life to last as long as possible. I will still have an external battery pack for charging but still want to know if you guys have any tips or tricks to maximize battery life.
Right now I am thinking of flashing a custom rom with a minimal Gapps package. Seems like an ideal setup would be a clean rom without any apps besides phone, text, and hangouts for my group messaging needs. Any suggestions on the best rom, kernel, governors, etc that would work best? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! (last year I used no wallpaper for my amoled note 2)
Currently using blisspop on my d850 with the kernel it comes with.
