I think one of the coolest features of the new one is the dots view case.
I don't see anything other than implementation in sense 6, which we are getting anyway, preventing this.
Think we'll see a dots view for the old HTC one?

CNET says yes: "Current HTC One owners shouldn't feel left out either. The fact that HTC has said it will bring Sense 6 to its previous One handsets soon (which has the Dot View software baked right in) increases the chances in my mind that the company has plans to build Dot View cases to older One users as well."

Not really strange. The NFC chip in the case triggers Sense6 in the phone to activate the Dot View mode that's built into Sense6. Other cases without the specific NFC chip would not trigger that mode in the phone.
And to view the effect toast an NFC chip with the dot case details and voila

Interesting, at first I figured there was no way they'd bring the case to the M7, since it's a pretty strong selling point for the M8. At $50, I'd probably wait to find a good deal on eBay, but I definitely want it.
Can anyone tell me how exactly it uses NFC? I thought the NFC on the M8 was the same place as the M7 - near the camera. I was told that's why there's a little plastic line between the camera lens and the plastic strip because NFC can't penetrate the metal shell very well. That's where my NFC triggers best, anyway.
So if the case goes around the phone, it could use NFC to tell the phone that the case is on, but there's no way of using NFC to know when the case is open or closed. Surely that has to be magnetic. Also, my experience is that if you have an NFC tag permanently against the phone, it prevents it from using the NFC for anything else - so using the case would knock out your NFC.
Dot View would be awesome if HTC had used an AMOLED screen, but it seems to just be a battery-hog on an LCD. The entire LCD must be "on" and using battery, even if 90% of the pixels are black so I would never dream of having my screen lit up whilst the case is closed. If it was AMOLED then we could have some nice MotoX style notifications, including a much more battery-friendly dot view.

I find it weird that it uses NFC. In my M7 if I put a nfc sticker over the screen, I can read it, so it can be possible, but if you open the case entirely, the NFC chip will get detected and turn the screen off, thinking the case is closed.
I think it's a magnet or something else than NFC
Maybe NFC is only for detecting the case. Not for the fuktion open/close. It's possible when the phone now (per nfc) that the case is on the phone that it works with the sensors. Like poket detection in some kernels.

This. It uses NFC only for detecting that you have the dots view case.
So when you don't have the case on, it does not bring up the dots view for nothing.

i think it could just use the light sensor/Proximity Sensor? would the case cover these? NFC for initial Case detection.. Proximity sensor for open close of case detection

oh as a side note... I'm running ARHD 61.1 and when the phone is locked and i quickly go to the running services, i can see that DotMatrix service is running..
so ok this is a port from the M8, but it does get triggered when the screen is locked... just wonder what else needs to further activate the other functions in the service (probably NFC and I HOPE Proximity Sensor)
Even of you use a regular flip case dot view will be working but dot view will not launch beacuse digitizer will not be able to register touch inputs remember you need to double tap to activate dot view 3rd party manufacturers can easily make a dot view case nfc is not used there
Dot view can be ported to m7 all you need to do is use proximity sensor as magnetic switch but main problem is there is no dot view case that fits our device
Interesting that the Dots View app is compatible with my M7

I got this yesterday. The wake and sleep function doesn't work unless you use the flawed Style View app. The app works by using the proximity sensor instead of a magnetic sensor. This means that if you are using your phone and happen to get close to the top of the screen it will go into the "Smart View" mode. Extremely annoying. Hopefully the Spigen app being released on 5/1 is better, or this case is next to useless for me.
Spigen is releasing a specific app next month. I have one and live it. I use Gravity Screen, and Nils floating notifications over the cm lock screen, is the best solution I found, haven't noticed significant battery drain.

As we know htc desire is a fantastic phone but there is a one little draw back. that is the power button not placed at a right place... so can we on or off the device without using power button?/ Like for example double tap to wake or any other such thing? if yes then How?
One is the inbuilt flip cover that comes..
Secondly.. You have some app in playstore that switches the screen on when shaking.
Double tap should be supported by kernel, otherwise if Dev does then the screen will be active all the times expecting a touch, which in turns drain battery.

Gravity Screen Free apk is the one you probably need, which is available from http://www.appsapk.com/gravity-screen-on-off/.
Hit thanks if I helped you in any way.
there are two covers for desire 816.
one is the ordinary flip covers and another is the nfc enabled magnetic flip cover which brings to life a sleeping phone when you flip it open. of course if u use password or pattern lock then it will be shown and you have to unlock it. no need for pushing the power button every time you use the phone.
its very useful for me to read stories and browse internet.

Hi Guys,
I really like the concept of S view or Quick Circle i have seen one or two such cases on the interwebs and wondered, does OPO has the hardware to support such kind of cases?:silly:
The idea behind the s view case is that the amoled screen on Samsung devices save power by using less of the screen since an amoled screen only draws as much power as is on the screen. LG use an LCD panel like the OnePlus and have copied the idea with their circle cut out, for what ever reason I don't know, it doesn't save power. The key requirement is a hall sensor, a magnetic switch that tells the phone when the flip cover is closed. The oneplus does not have a hall sensor.
Sent from my TouchPad using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I think i saw a video of the opo where the flip case made the screen to turn on. So i guess it has the hall sensor...

I've read on the Opo forum that cases like the above don't work for international Opo. It seems to be designed for the Color OS rom. I'm holding off from getting the Nillkin Sparkle case because I'm not sure if it would work properly.

Hey guys,
somehow I actually don't like the Dot View Case but woudl really like to take advantage of the Dot View functionality.
So my question here is (since I could not find a topic related to this) wheter it is possible to add the ability to use Dot View screen (by e.g. double tapping screen)
without the case. Since this is done by some kind of magnetic detection should it be possible to do this by software or kernel modification.
Any ideas about this by people how got some knowledge about this is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Well, you can at least use the features with ANOTHER case than the dotview. You can take the magnet from dotview-case and fix it to some other case that has a cover for the screen.
I guess that is not what you intended. Additionally a dotview display watched without the cover is ugly, to say the least.

Yeah... I'll agree with this. It's NOT dots. It's giant colored squares designed to shine through the holes in the case.

I got the case, but never found the APP again, the G6 has most of the functionality that the G4 had.
I remember the G4 had a special pin in the back, near the battery slot, once you removed the back cover. I assume it was used by the phone to detect the circle case.

Wrong! It's detected by a magnetic sensor and that way all kind of cases can use the "circle" of the G4. I've tried with a magnet on the screen and there's a spot that activates the quickcircle.

I've looked high and low, and I've found nothing in the G6 that uses the Quick Circle interface - I'm as much of a fan of it as you are.
The closest they have is an interface that displays basic info in a square opening in the case, activated with a similar magnet sensor. It's not interactive - you can't turn off an alarm, or select whether or not to pick up a call - you still need to open the case. You can't even activate the display to check the time with a double-tap - you need to hit the power button. That I've found, that is. But it's better than the proverbial nothing.
Unlike the Quick Circle case for the Stylo and G4, the opening on the cover does not expose the camera, just the power button. There's other cases that expose the power button and the camera, but they aren't interactive, and only barely display the data from the always on option.
I ADORE the Quick Circle interface, and was really disappointed that it seems to have been discontinued. If anyone hears about an add-on app that mimics it, I'd love to hear about it.
Here's an entry for the case on ebay - I expect there's plenty of others that do the same.

You're right, there's a magnetic spot that triggers the display!!
Anyway, on my phone (an H870 with Oreo), it triggers the AOD, not the circle apps.
On youtube there are also some reviews of "circle" cases, which are actually transparent cases that show the AOD.
Uhm... good news, I didn't know that
