Hi ive got a question.
Since there are so many desire roms out there, what is the best rom in terms of stability, memory and performance.
I just got a desire and my stock rom (froyo 2.2) has only 68mb of internal space where it should be ~150mb.
I dont care what Android version its based on as long as i get more app space.
Im having trouble in rooting my phone, ive used the multiple guides on xda without success (when i tried i didnt have a sd card, nor do i know if its needed). However when i do succeed i want to flash a rom, so i would know what rom to use...
Im buying a 2gb card today since i dont have one in my phone.
So if any one can help me, thanks!!

No 'best ROM'....
Find what's best for you and your needs, not what's best for others...
There are plenty to choose from, that's the point . As a general rule, the older Gingerbread ROMs will be more stable, but the newer ones can be 'stable enough' depending on your definition.
Any custom ROM will have better memory than stock. You only need root and a correctly partitioned sd card for this, use 4EXT recovery or gparted only. As you only have a 2GB card, then a 1GB ext4 partition may be the right balance.
Most ROMs will have an A2SD script built in for more app space, or you just have to activate it (read / search each thread).
It's also advantageous to s-off the phone. Some roms fit onto smaller hboots to get even more app space.
Start here, find the bit on using revolutionary to s-off.

Hello, I am a noob, i dont want to be a noob, but i am one anyway, so be kind and answer my noob questions
( and yes i did tried to find the answers and no i didn't find them.. )
1. after rooting with unrevoked - ( default sttings - no touching )
what ROM whould i have?
the same Stock HTC Sense Froyo - Android 2.2 + ROOT (superuser, busybox..)
or a Stock Android 2.2 rom?
1.1 and could i install apps2sd+ on that rooted system?
1.2 or i would be without any rom, and i would need to install one from the SD from Recovery ( the default one after enrevoked - Clockwork )
( i'm planning on this one)
1.3. if i do have some rom installed after unrevooked: what do i get from that Rom i wish to download from XDA that i dont get in the Rom after enrevoked?
anywhere i look for the anser to that i cant find a difinative answer for that..
2. what is the recommended methon to create an ext3/4 partition and what is the max or recommended partition size for Desire (i have 16GB low-class sandisk SD, but i dont mind waitng)
well the answers ARE out there (yes they are) but here you go again:
1.1) after gaining root with unrevoked you will simply have a stock HTC rom with root access (and a custom recovery - clockworkmod)
1.2) you cannot apply A2SD+ to this ROM you will have right after rooting, what you can do is to download a pre-rooted Stock ROM (same as one you have now) with A2SD+ implemented. however it would be stupid, custom roms are faster, better in performance and in battery life so go for them)
1.3) i guess the answer is the same as for the 1.2nd Q
2) best method is to use Gparted Live CD (it is a bootable CD) download it and burn to a CD then boot it up @ pc. mount USB storage in recovery on the phone, plug it in PC and format your sd.
for a2sd+ FAT32 and after a 1GB EXT3/4 (ext4 is better, dont use more than 1GB it may cause trouble, and 1GB is looots of space)
for data2ext or other there should be a recommended partition layout that will make them work as good as they can in your ROM's thread.
also as you are a new user i do recommend going S-OFF (is as easy as rooting, seriously - CD method) then appling a custom hboot and running an InsertCoin ROM CM7 - with custom hboot it will be super fast and you will get lots of space.
when doing S-OFF remember to be either on stock rooted rom or on oxygen rom.

that's because i'm looking for a rom with:
1. Sense ( Froyo sense since the GingerB sensation sense needs S-OFF..)
2. a2sd+ ( Max optimal size for the partition )
2. Minimal add-on apps on the Rom.
3. Minimal removed apps ( maybe with ability to manualy remove a system app but i dont know if that again requires S-OFF )
4. maybe a gingerbread style shutdown\wakeup ( CRT Style ) animation?
i allready searched the pinned topics for a Rom like that and all i found is the pre-rooted stock..
i dont want to be deviating from the Stock sense with too many changes, and on the other hand i do want to be able to make some changes to the rom.
the rom i currently wish to use has Undervolt -100mv and it says it's for support with the kernel of the RUU, but if it's a pre rooted why isnt it allready supporing the RUU..?
and in that Rom's page there is a recommended Radio img, but i Dont have to change to it right..? ( It's only recommended NOT required.. )
anyway my RUU+Radio is:

Nearly all GB ROM's will work fine with S-ON (Stock HBOOT), dunno where did you get this info.

got that info from my local android fans forum, which also didnt gave me difinative answer yet..
Then now you know - you dont need S-OFF for Gingerbread A2SD ROM's.
As for number 2.
Use g-parted to make the partitions, there is a video guide in the desire dev forums, its on of the stickys. I would post a link, but I'm not at my pc . You don't really want to go over the 1GB for the ext partition, any thing bigger starts to slow down the ROM
I had a feeling that the GB roms did need a new radio, or at least some if them do. But the ROM should tell you if that is the case.

in both the Roms i now intresten in it says 'Recommended' Radio, and since i'm a Noob user i do not have premission to post at the dev forums and ask on the Rom's topic.
one of them is acually the radio i ahve now, but the LeeDroid one Recommends a deffrent one and again from the info i gathered from my local forum for android 2.3 with Sense i HAVE to change the radio, is that true \ false?
is Recommended = Required || OR || Recommended != Required..

you never MUST change radio
it is only recommended, do it if you encounter problems with connectivity after flashing a rom (reception, wi-fi etc)
however i think you MUST have a radio from 2.2 (froyo) roms at least
if you rooted while on 2.2 you should be ok, if you were on 2.1 while rooting try updating the radio

why in LeeDroid's rom and and the last submitted rom, there's undervolt?
why does the Rom needs to be undervolt and how does that effect the preformance&stability of the system?
Also What is the best method for saving space ( a2sd+ \ data2whatever \ ...? )
ROMs dont need undervolting, they dont need anything...
undervolting is set up in kernel, and it means the processor will work under smaller voltage which leads to better battery life but generally it compromises stability. however they wouldnt set it to a value that would cause trouble, so this is just an info for geeks so that they know that by default the kernel provided with rom undervolts the cpu (some may not like that, as they want for example best performance - overclocking rather than undervolting)

I also wouldn't recommend that you do the S-Off until you've played with rom's and decided that you really must try a CM7 hboot rom or something. There's plenty can be done with S-On and it gives a degree of safety against bricking the phone. I speak from experience. I did however recover mine in the end after much learning but I really wouldn't go S-Off unless / until you understand the dangers associated with it and the somewhat limited benefits to those who know little of Linux or the Android OS.
Hy guys, i got one question regarding my brothers desire. he has unrooted desire and the main problem is low memory. he doesn't want me to unroot him and s-off and put some other rom so he can get better things out of his phone but it is what it is
My question is, if i format his sdcard,and put for example 512 or 768 mb of ext3 partition, should phone recognize by it self that external partion the next time card is pluged in phone, or i need to format sdcard and make hard reset to make thing work? or maybe neither option will work? So i need your suggestion and help with this one.

To answer your question in a nutshell, no. He'll still be able to only move the apps that allow external storage, regardless of partition or size.
This is why I rooted my phone in the first place and after a lot of reading went for the safest option, due to a lack at the time of Linux knowledge. I rooted but left S-On and used a series of Sense ROM's that allow any app (apart from System apps obv.) to be moved to the ext 3 partition. Eventually settled on LeeDroid's - my favourite sense rom.

if i just root him with unrevoked metod, and left s-ON, will i still have recovery such as amom ra or cw recovery?
ok to reformulate my question, i can use unrevoked and unroot phone. And then i don't need to s-off or anything.
I would do the following and i would like if you can tell me that's the right way.
1. get the drivers that are needed for unrevoked method and root
2. do the rooting stuff
3. from there on, i can format my sdcard trueout Cwrecovery which camed with unrevoked method
4. put wanted rom on root of sd card and make backup first
5. wipe all and flash a new rom
Is that the right way?

Hey just a quick question., and my friend has a desire and has super low internal memory with only 4 apps installed. From what I understand this is a common issue with this phone. So Are there any roms or mods here that tackle this issue? Because if so I'll go ahead and help him root his phone. Also he's on uscellular if that makes any difference or has any issues with root. Most of the ROMs here have A2SD+ or Data2Ext (d2w) - so yes, if you root, flash one these Roms, your friend will have more memory.
Isn't USCC CDMA only? I can't remember if it is or not. Anyway if it is then look at hboot version. To do this turn the device off then hold back+power. Look at the hboot version. If its 1.06 then you can't root.
If its GSM then you should be able to just root. I would suggest to go and read around before you do anything.
With every rom there is at least an A2SD script which puts apps onto the SD card. You will need to partition the SD card but like I said read around first. There are plenty of topics out there.

If you have an ext-partition apps are on the sd-card even if they don't say so, so you have space for more apps than you might think(as they don't take up nearly as much space as they indicate).
But in order to maximize this, go to oxygen. It's a very stable rom with plenty of free space. Use the oxygen hboot from alpharev and then flash the rom from here:

edit: of course you can get almost unlimited space by using any data2ext rom, but they are just so much slower.
as far as I can see, oxygen isnt based on any htc rom... and I kind of like the new sense, and would prefer to stick with that...
i think the speed of insertcoin is fine, i havent had any problems with it yet...

sure but you should find the aosp one much speedier. Anyway with data2ext you will get a data partition the size of the ext-partition, which means in your case you'll get 1 gb for apps.
Hi all, can somebody give me some advice to help out a friend.
My housemate has an HTC Wildfire and told me it keeps saying out of storage space errors. So I had a look at it, just assuming I needed to delete some apps, remove old cache data and maybe move some apps to the SD card. On checking, he has 7MB space free, so I thought he must have loads of apps installed, but there's only about 7?! The internal storage was so low and yet the SD card storage was hardly used at all, and there was also no option to move apps to the SD card. Didn't know these phones had so little storage space (I almost got one of these before my x10 3 years ago!)
I'm guessing the best thing to do is root the phone and clear out junk apps etc using Titanium Backup. I've done rooting and using of custom ROMs before on my old Xperia X10, but never on any other phone so is there an easy way to do it on an HTC Wildfire? As I am aware the process will be different. Also what sort of custom ROMs were developed for the Wildfire? Just upto Gingerbread or ICS and beyond, and if the latter, do they run better than GB?
Any help would be appreciated

Some Wildfire S models manufactured in 2012 gave some problems regarding recovery..If above mentioned guide fails and you can't get to recovery then follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997465...
If the Wildfire S is manufactured in 2012 and you had to follow the second guide then you can't install ROMs based on CYANOGENMOD... You can only install ROMs based on stock ROM...

I did wonder whether he had the Wildfire or Wildfire S (before yesterday I had no idea there were two models) but then I guessed it would be the S as he is on 2.3.5 and yet the standard Wildfire shipped with 2.1 or 2.2 I believe.
Is there a 'safe list' of bloatware apps etc that can be removed from the Wildfire S with Titanium once it has been rooted?

I don't know about safe list.. but there are some ROMs with removed bloatware like Kimsmod supreme,Wildchild etc.. and also 3.5 ROMs..
P.S. Wildfire has a trackball under screen.. and Wildfire S doesn't have trackball..

He still wants to root, and being that I have done this on my old Xperia X10, he wants me to look into it - however, on reading that tutorial you (very kindly!) provided the link for above, it seems very complicated. Is there not an easier, simpler solution, or is this the best/fastest way?
Also I keep reading about Int2Ext in these forums - is this something that allows the SD card to be partitioned and used for apps? If so, does this come built in with custom ROMs or is it something you must do manually??

There is HTC SuperTool v3 that can root your phone.This method would be the easiest (after you have unlocked the bootloader) assuming it works but unfortunately, it didn't work for me.
INT2EXT allows you to use a partitioned section of your SD card for more storage of apps More info here. Most custom roms support the use of the INT2EXT script
