Android on Universal

Android is a new open source mobile operating system that Google developed and an SDK has just been made available.
It would be great to see this ported to the Universal if its possible.

I don't see why it would not run since the Universal can already run Linux (to some extent) and Android is just based on that. Whether and to what extent the hardware can be supported is another question that only our programmers can answer. As we can surely count HTC out on supporting their legacy devices it might not be worth anybodies time in the end.

SDK for Android would not help at all. It is just a set of headers and import libraries. To port something to a device you need complete source codes of its kernel, software, etc. Even more - we don't know hardware requirements for Android. It may require the NOR flash to run from it - and we don't have it on our device at all.

Nobody uses NOR these days, it's too expensive and provides no real
benefit over NAND. The XIP days are over.
I hate java with passion, but i don't see any reason why Android software
will not be running on the universal.

Any news? I mean: can Universal run an Android ROM?
I saw something on tytnII, is there an hope?

I Saw That Video Of It On The Tytn And It Looks Like Its Just A Linux Based Kernel Booting Though Haret.
Theirs Already Some Pretty Good Progress With Linux On The UNI And I Dont See Why It Shouldnt Be Possible To Patch This Up. (Wish I Could But Im Not A Linux Coder )

I've been trying to get it to work on my ELFin too, but i gave up when i only managed to get the Linwizard running without startx... (i dont know how to telnet and startx -.-)

Has anyone been able to get some real progress on this matter?

I installed this onto my main memory, but when I run it I get a blank screen and the phone vibrates continuously, what am I doing wrong? I think this version is supposed to work on the Universal.

i also tried to install android on my universal, but it didn't work at all, i only had a black sreen and it vibrate without stopping. if someone has an idea, or a new thread were we can find out a running android os for uni... i take it !

Ubuntu for Ascend P6

I notice Canonical's Ubuntu operating system is being developed to run on devices which currently run android:

And would seem a new "experimental snapshot" of the software has been released for development and evaluation.
The link below contains the download and all instructions needed to flash a device with the software, and I was wondering if anyone with more insight into the subject than myself could advise whether we can expect to see Ubuntu come to the P6 soon or not?

Our device doesn't have kernel which can support " device loop " . If have smone can build kernel with that function. We can run uBuntu or other backtrack, kali linux etc with linux deploy or linux installer complete.

[Q] Fairphone and Firefox OS

Hi,
at the moment it is not possible to install Firefox OS on fairphone since that it is not supported by mozilla. Do you know if there is a project that is able to do it?

My understanding is that to do anything related to custom OSes or custom ROMs will require source code or custom drivers for the hardware that is used in the phone. There may be projects out there that are attempting to this for the MTK SoC that is used in the fairphone, but as the hardware in each model will likely be slightly different, there will be no guarantee that all the functions of the phone will actually work. There is a whole discussion about source code availability in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2636257, as well as a number of mentions of (limited) progress in building a working kernel in order threads. In short: the chances of an alternative OS for the fairphone appearing within a useful time frame appear to be quite slim.

Porting Firefox OS to FP1

I own a FP1 (First Edition) and am seeking to port FFOS to the FP1.
I do not have any developing experience, I have just done C and Java and I am comfortable with Linux's CLI.

Currently I am stuck at the following: Create a manifest for the new device

Which changes do I have to make to the hamachi manifest mentioned there?
I figured out, that most of the stuff is hamachi-specific and thus not required. My current manifest is attached. Could you please take a look and tell me, if this is enough?

Did you try your file out? I's think it's probably best to cut down on just the relevant settings.

Yes, the config.sh got stuck at like 93%.
Also I have no idea, what exactly I have to include into the manifest file. I think I need a toolchain, but I am not sure where to get one, and how to apply it. (I somehow know what it is though, I think... )
Ok, running the config.sh comes at the very end, so I probably should continue with the configuration tree[1]...
Does everything in here [2](@chrmhoffmann's repo android_device_fp_FP1) go to the configuration tree?

I still have no idea, where and how to build this configuration tree. Do you have advice on this?

Fyi, a build is now available. As a new user on XDA, I can not post link here (what a ****ty rule), but check bug 1139642 on bugzilla and search Fairphone on the Mozilla Developer Network (MDN) to have more info.

Wrong phone (FP1(U) vs FP2)
The build, you are referring to, is for FP2, not for FP1.

System choices for Nokia 6.1; if any

Hi there,
I read the forum rules, I am still not entirely sure if this post belongs here, sorry about that if not.
I own a Nokia 6.1; it is an android one device, I am looking to remove android from it.
I looked at the websites from /e/, ubuntu touch, sailfish; none of these has official support for this phone,
so I would attempt to do it by myself, and my techinal knowlege about phones is zero, hence the hesitation.
I want to ask if anyone here has managed to ditch android from this model, either /e/, ubuntu touch, sailfish,
graphene, lineage would be fine by me.

There is a halium port for this device that uses a generic halium system image. It works pretty well, check it out.
