[Q] Using a sim unlocked T989 internationally - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello, I am currently visiting the Ivory Coast. I have just sim unlocked my T989 to use with Orange here. I can not seem to connect to the internet with my Orange sim. I believe that I am connected to data network on my phone. When I switch between GSM and WCDMA I see a difference in signal strength. I am using Jedi Mind Trick Version 8 on this device. Is there a special Rom that I will need in order to connect to the internet with this phone, or is this a hardware problem?

Do you have the correct apn settings for orange?

UK Bought DHD usable in Canada?

Hi
I have had my DHD for almost two years. I've mow come to canada for 2 month and was wondering how I can get TELUS aim card working.. no signal is found. It worked ok on multiple UK networks.
Do I need to do more than root. My phone?
Many thanks

It will work if its carrier unlocked. You just need to get a TELUS sim card at any telus in canada. Hspa speeds wont work though because European desire hd uses 1900/2100 MHz and here in north America is 850/1900 mhz.

I've tried it but no signal was found. It wouldn't connect. My brother thinks it could be hardware. Im using this milestone at the moment which works great on TELUS.

Update:
It's still not working, help would be great!
The APN settings seem to correct for TELUS, however, the only networks which show are Rogers Wireless. The phone still doesn't find TELUS when scanning for networks. Anyone have any idea's?
Could be as simple as the Sim card. Sometimes for what ever reason it just doesn't work and getting a new one helps.

It works fine in an older phone.
You should still try a new sim. Little example of what happend to me
I gave my sister my old iPhone.phone was fully unlocked. Her sim worked in her T-Mobile phone but not in the iPhone. My brothers tmo sim would work . We picked her up a new sim, problem gone
Doesn't seem to make a difference. I think it's to do with the Band Frequencies as I have a UK phone. Would it be because I'm on ICS at all? I've flashed a TELUS radio too which didn't help.
Well you would only be able to get 2g in north america. But now that I think about it I believe telus 2g is cdma then if so theirs nothing you can do
OK I looked it up and telus 2g is cdma. Somebody had told me this on xda a while back but its been so long I forgot about it. Unfortunately you can't use your dhd on telus, though their are other GSM providers
Ah okay. That sucks but thanks for the definitive answer

On ur dailpad press *#*#4636#*#* it will bring up the service menu choose phone information after that click menu button it will show several options choose the one on the top left corner(select radio band) set it to USA band n see if it works i m not 100 % sure but i think it will work. Let us know if it did. Gud luck

Can you use an AT&T go phone sim in this phone?

Hi guys,
My friend bought an incredible 2 and paid to have it sim unlocked. He put his at&t go phone sim in it and it doesn't recognize the sim in gsm mode nor does it even register in global mode. I did a search on Google and got yes and no answers on whether this is possible. I figure no one would know better than an xda guy, so any help is appreciated.
Phone is also rooted and s-off if that matters/helps on the newest rooted ota.
Thanks in advance!

Technically speaking yes it should work but the phone will only be able to use the edge network due to limitations on the inc2 being built mainly for cdma network. I would try a different carriers SIM card to test. It is possible the unlock didn't work. I have seen a few people on here using the phone with tmobile which is almost the same network.

Dkstunna's cm9 has working gsm 3g if I remember right
So it is just a matter of flashing a rom that will support it? I see that a few roms say they support GSM. I read somewhere that verizon blocked the radio in the phone from getting AT&T signal, is that true and if so would I need to flash a different radio for it to work? Data does not matter, he mainly uses it for talk and text (why he got an incred 2 for just talk and text is beyond me)

Its not blocked, the phone just doesn't pick up the right band or frequency to get gsm 3g on certain networks, all the different type of data and voice use their own frequency range and our phone can't pick up the right band to get it, our radio is not made for it.

I have rooted and have mine s-off. Prior to doing this Verizon gave me the unlock code for GSM as I travel overseas. I am running aeroevan's cm9 on it and recently tried the local GSM providers SIM here in Wyoming (Union Cellular) in the phone. I switched the network to GSM and it picked up nothing at all. I have used this overseas with a Movistar SIM and have had voice and SMS. Some how I wonder if there is something built in that blocks GMS when the phone can receive a CDMA signal from Verizon.

Did you see what bandwidth/frequency union cellular runs off of compared to the inc2

I thought that by being a quad band gsm the dinc2 would get any gsm frequency.

Yes but not always the case. It most be one of these. Google is your friend
The handset is a dual-band EV-DO Rev A (850/1900MHz), quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and dual-band HSDPA (900/2100MHz) device

[Q] Australian Vodafone GN2 LTE settings disabled

Hi everyone I have a 2 week old SGN2 N7105T from Vodafone Australia.
As Voda in Australia doesn't have 4g yet it seems Voda/Samsung has disabled 4g LTE on the phone.
Which means I cannot use another sim from another carrier to reap the benefits of 4g.
In the settings I only have options for wcdm/gsm auto, wcdma only & gsm only.
Does anyone know if and how I can enable 4g?
I have thought about rooting and putting a different rom from a different country or one from another carrier in Oz (such as Optus 1800mhz) that has the 4g option.
Not sure if that will allow me to get 4g? (By using an Optus sim)
Thanks

Vodafone Australia doesn't have 4g network just yet. They are planning to upgrade by June/ july 2013. Thats why they disabled lte option on note 2 7105t for now. even if you are able to get lte option by flashing different rom you won't be able to get 4g network.
This is seriously against the consumer right as we pay premium price for 7105 only for lte reason. But we get the phone same as 7100

Your current provider has no bearings on the menu options, so the option will not change.

I think this is not correct. 4g connection is not disabled on the phone. Because the carrier does not support 4g at the moment, the LTE option in the menu will not be visible. That is the impression that I have got from a Vodafone NZ engineer.

Sorry for the late reply guys.
I installed a German Vodafone 4.1.2 rom from samfirmware which gave me the option to choose LTE, GSM, WCDMA then I put my mates Telstra 4g sim and 4g worked great. When. I was in 4g areas the 4g symbol showed on top and speeds were awesome. Now all we need is Vodafone to hurry up.

Sorry man you're flat wrong.
I flashed a rom I found on here for the N7100 that was confirmed compatible with my N7105-t From Voda and put in my telstra sim and 4G'ed my brains out.
It was getting crazy numbers for up and down speed in speed test so I know it was legit. That and the 4G logo up the top....

You used telstra sim and got 4g, because telstea have 4g networks. Nothing wrong with that. So how I am wrong here? I said getting 4g compatible rom doesn't mean you get 4g from VODAFONE because they don't have 4g. tell me if I am still wrong. Thankx

Help?

I have an unlocked Gt-i9505 and all frequencies match for higher network signals but all I'm getting is edge. My Imei number I think is wrong. And I could really use a detailed description of the engineering mode.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
So you're trying to use the i9505 on T-Mobile in the USA? If so, I think you will only get 3G/4G speeds if you're in an area where the 1900Mhz band has been refarmed.
I have an unlocked Gt-i9505 it's through t-mobile originally but my service provider is straight talk. I have compared the frequencies for the network in my area along with my phone I funny understand why I'm only getting Edge. I should at least get 3g. It may have something to do with my Imei number, it says I have an s3.... I don't have a bootloader and there isn't an option to pick my network mode like 3g/4g/edge /lte... Messing with engineering mode I made my wifi icon blue for the first time ever but it didn't stay.

You might have a AT&T Sim card through Straight Talk. Are you sure you have a T-Mobile compatible Sim card?

Honestly I have no clue. When I purchased it from the website they didn't offer a choice let alone sizes. I had to trim the sim to be a micro. How could I tell?
