UK Bought DHD usable in Canada? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have had my DHD for almost two years. I've mow come to canada for 2 month and was wondering how I can get TELUS aim card working.. no signal is found. It worked ok on multiple UK networks.
Do I need to do more than root. My phone?
Many thanks
Sent from my Milestone using xda app-developers app

It will work if its carrier unlocked. You just need to get a TELUS sim card at any telus in canada. Hspa speeds wont work though because European desire hd uses 1900/2100 MHz and here in north America is 850/1900 mhz.

I've tried it but no signal was found. It wouldn't connect. My brother thinks it could be hardware. Im using this milestone at the moment which works great on TELUS.

Update:
It's still not working, help would be great!
The APN settings seem to correct for TELUS, however, the only networks which show are Rogers Wireless. The phone still doesn't find TELUS when scanning for networks. Anyone have any idea's?

Could be as simple as the Sim card. Sometimes for what ever reason it just doesn't work and getting a new one helps.

It works fine in an older phone.

You should still try a new sim. Little example of what happend to me
I gave my sister my old iPhone.phone was fully unlocked. Her sim worked in her T-Mobile phone but not in the iPhone. My brothers tmo sim would work . We picked her up a new sim, problem gone

Doesn't seem to make a difference. I think it's to do with the Band Frequencies as I have a UK phone. Would it be because I'm on ICS at all? I've flashed a TELUS radio too which didn't help.

Well you would only be able to get 2g in north america. But now that I think about it I believe telus 2g is cdma then if so theirs nothing you can do
OK I looked it up and telus 2g is cdma. Somebody had told me this on xda a while back but its been so long I forgot about it. Unfortunately you can't use your dhd on telus, though their are other GSM providers

Ah okay. That sucks but thanks for the definitive answer

On ur dailpad press *#*#4636#*#* it will bring up the service menu choose phone information after that click menu button it will show several options choose the one on the top left corner(select radio band) set it to USA band n see if it works i m not 100 % sure but i think it will work. Let us know if it did. Gud luck

International Galaxy Nexus

I'm currently in Israel, and I had a LTE GN sent to me from America. I see that it has a microSIM card slot. If I were to get a microSIM, would I be able to hop off the networks here?

To be honest, I think you are the first one ever, to IMPORT a US-specific carrier-phone to try to use it internationally instead of just getting the international GSM version
a LTE GN from usually means this one: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_nexus_i515-4301.php
as such it is a cdma phone, but LTE requires it to have a micro sim. It has no GSM radio whatsoever. And most likely it is locked to verzion.
simply put, no.
Ha, right. Well I didn't intentionally do this, it just happened that a friend had an upgrade with Verizon and he some how got the Nexus for free. He's using his BB here in Israel so he let me play with it. Its nice to have a solid feel with ICS.
Bummer.

There's no LTE networks in Israel...
...yet. Now that there's this whole boom the Communications Minister caused by getting all the new carriers to join the market, I think that Golan Telecom is the only one who is planning on getting the whole system up to 4G (LTE) when their thru.
In the meantime, though, your out of luck. Even if you did unlock the Verizon LTE phone, and get a microSIM (which is, btw, no problem here in Israel, all the carriers have them), you still wouldn't be able to use it as a cell phone since all the networks here are 3G and don't support LTE.
Damn zombies. Friends don't let friends resurrect threads that have been dead and buried for several months.

Galaxy nexus and 850 mhz bands

Hi people recently I trade my Motorola razr with a galaxy nexus, the guy who trade it was using the phone with movistar, in my country it operates on 850 mhz. I use other carrier claro also working on 850 mhz. But with the Sims of that operator (claro) I got no service at all. Maybe it is a old thread but don't know how to search for it and honestly the galaxy nexus has a big forum.
Hope you can help me because I got a plan on claro and don't want to change operators.

It look like you will have to do some flashing, though I am not in your area so I don't know which specific image or radio you need.
thanks for the answers, i was using my xda tablet app and its harder to search, well i search a little, my problem maybe is because the radio installed, i got xx radio which is european, supports 850 but someway it can be causing the probelm with other sim. I find some radios for US and Canada but they are listed for ICS, it can work with jelly bean?

Yes. You should be able to use almost any radio.
And by the way, XX radios are not only for Europe. U.S. devices ship with XX radios as well.

It's probably not related to the firmware on your phone. Did you try it out with a SIM of a different provider?

yes the sims from the other carrier works, both operates on 850mhz

Then it certainly has nothing to do with your device or the firmware. It is either related to your SIM or to your carrier account or a network issue.

Any suggestion to solve this problem? i speak with costumer service of my operator and they told me that theres no support for devices not sold by them, so im stuck with this phone with no signal at all.
I returned the phone, really like it but for me is not working.

Switching lte on

Hi friends who ever bought the t-mobile galaxy note can u try this option to check whether u can change the settings for data connection .I have a galaxy s3 where I used to this option to switch off lte to conserve battery .it worked fine.if this process works and u get the options to change connection type then you are good to buy t-mobile galaxy note 2 to use lte on at&t because I heard both t-mobile and at&t note versions has same chip inside but lte is temporarily disabled in t-mobile version .
1) With phone on, take off back cover and press your SIM card so it releases from the spring. It won't come all the way out as it's blocked by the battery. This seems fine - I didn't bother trying to force it out as I didn't want to break anything...
2) Once you see the message that the SIM card is removed, go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
3) You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic". If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G). If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G) and you will have lte too
4) Press the SIM card back into place until it clicks. For whatever reason the phone will not recognize it until you reboot. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.

Fwiw I believe you can do this without rebooting.
At least when switching the gsm radio bands. I often check 1900 mhz in my area of nyc by doing #*2263#
I have done this for Lte and it just says no service. Perhaps I should get at&t to show up but this far it hasn't worked.
I'm interested in what other people know about this!
If I click the SIM it doesn't come out enough (hits the battery) to tell me SIM removed . No dice on that approach for me.

You can select bands from any Samsung Galaxy device (that I've tried) by entering this code into the dialer. *#*#197328640#*#*
A menu pops up which give you lots of options. To get to band options, choose Debug Screen, Phone Control, Network Control, Band Selection. Don't get excited, every device I've seen has an LTE option in there, but that doesn't mean your phone has LTE hardware.
Another for the SIM not coming out far enough. Also, with the *#197328640#, the 'Debug Screen' was under UMTS.
My GN2 is carrier unlocked and I have the SIM from my AT&T iPhone4 in it. I'm not sure that SIM would even be LTE compatible anyhow since all I had with the iPhone4 was 3G.

confirmed that it does have LTE after debug screen, showing UMTS, CDMA, LTE, SIM, run EFS SYNC() as options
Does that mean you have LTE working on At&t now???

any update if its working on att
i dont think it ever will lol
If the battery blocks the SIM, can't you just take the SIM out, boot up the phone with no SIM, and do the same thing?
If this T-Mobile version physically HAS the LTE radio that AT&T uses, does anyone know what it would take to get it working on AT&T's LTE?

I have one, of course not with me. Will try tonight and report back.

Can you use an AT&T go phone sim in this phone?

Hi guys,
My friend bought an incredible 2 and paid to have it sim unlocked. He put his at&t go phone sim in it and it doesn't recognize the sim in gsm mode nor does it even register in global mode. I did a search on Google and got yes and no answers on whether this is possible. I figure no one would know better than an xda guy, so any help is appreciated.
Phone is also rooted and s-off if that matters/helps on the newest rooted ota.
Thanks in advance!

Technically speaking yes it should work but the phone will only be able to use the edge network due to limitations on the inc2 being built mainly for cdma network. I would try a different carriers SIM card to test. It is possible the unlock didn't work. I have seen a few people on here using the phone with tmobile which is almost the same network.

Dkstunna's cm9 has working gsm 3g if I remember right
So it is just a matter of flashing a rom that will support it? I see that a few roms say they support GSM. I read somewhere that verizon blocked the radio in the phone from getting AT&T signal, is that true and if so would I need to flash a different radio for it to work? Data does not matter, he mainly uses it for talk and text (why he got an incred 2 for just talk and text is beyond me)

Its not blocked, the phone just doesn't pick up the right band or frequency to get gsm 3g on certain networks, all the different type of data and voice use their own frequency range and our phone can't pick up the right band to get it, our radio is not made for it.

I have rooted and have mine s-off. Prior to doing this Verizon gave me the unlock code for GSM as I travel overseas. I am running aeroevan's cm9 on it and recently tried the local GSM providers SIM here in Wyoming (Union Cellular) in the phone. I switched the network to GSM and it picked up nothing at all. I have used this overseas with a Movistar SIM and have had voice and SMS. Some how I wonder if there is something built in that blocks GMS when the phone can receive a CDMA signal from Verizon.

Yes but not always the case. It most be one of these. Google is your friend
The handset is a dual-band EV-DO Rev A (850/1900MHz), quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and dual-band HSDPA (900/2100MHz) device

Switching Cell Phone provider questions... Network

So, this is more complicated thant i tought. I was under the impression that I could prety much unlock my phone to work with any companie.
Called Telus ( I want to sell my T-989, and found a Rogers buyer)
They told me they could unlock it but that it wouldnt work since Telus is on a HSPA network and Rogers is on a GSM...
Any way to get around this by flashing a different modem ??
Or am I stuck to sell it to a compatible network buyer?
I have this phone unlocked and it works fine on Rogers. It just can't do the hspa+ speeds so it would be stuck on 3G.
So basically don't worry, the phone works fine on gsm carrier's.
Also for future reference Telus is using a CDMA network but the T989 supports both CDMA and GSM.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
That is great news. Only thing is that Telus want to charge me 35$ for the process.
Are the online websites that offer that kind of service trustable ??
Iv'e seen a website think its like cellphonecanada blabla something like that. 20$ for the unlock.
I got mine unlocked at a local mall for 20 bucks. Perhaps try that?
