[Q] Unbrick hard-bricked SPH-L710 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all!
Well, looks like I hard-bricked my phone. It will not boot into download or recovery mode. What do I do?
I tried using quite a couple sd-card guide, but no avil.
I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345860 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369125
Also, if it will help, I got a full backup of boot, cache, data, recovery, and system in ".win" files. I cannot load it the "simple" way (through TWRP) since I cannot even get into recovery.
Please help me fix this without using a JTAG service, because there is always the question of wheater I will get my phone back once it is fixed.

YAHOO!! I got this problem solved with the help of zachf714, invisiblek and a special thanks to xstefen for providing a working debrick image. Here is the link to the working debrick image that xstefen provided: http://download.xstefen.net/getdownload.php?file=./xstefen/mmcblk0_backup.bin.zip. all you need to do, is write this image to a micro SD card using linux's
Code:
dd
command or Win32 Disk Imager. Then put the sd card in your phone, boot into download mode and flash a stock ROM using Odin.
Wish anyone else who have this problem luck.
P.S. I am not responsible if anything happens to your phone because of this.

What version was your phone?? 4.3??

Yes, it was using stock OS version 4.3. Now I already installed a custom OS based on 4.4 Kitkat.

WHY?!
Why am I always so close to a solution on these forums, and then discover the links are dead?!
I am suffering from the 4.3 problem. Can someone please post a working link? I know I'm relying on your good graces, but some of these hosts are rubbish.

Here is a currently working link. My phone is still dead, but maybe it will be useful to someone else.

5.1.1-based CyanogenMod DeBrick Image for SPH-L710
Hello,
I have created a debrick image for 5.1.1-based CyanogenMod. While creating this image, I was using TWRP recovery, CyanogenMod 12.1 NIGHTLY 20150603. I am guessing this should work for most of the future nightlies too.
My complete model number is: SPH-L710
Download:

When I will have 10 posts, I will remove the space and make it a link.
(I will add more mirrors in my spare time. This mirror should work for the long foreseeable future.)

[Q] HELP - Wiped the OS off of my Galaxy S3 I747

Alright, well I've come to a problem and I'm not quite sure how to fix it.
The title pretty much says it all, I've completely wiped the operating system off of my phone. There is nothing left, absolutely no data or anything. I was much too hasty and irresponsible, and I fear for the worst. I had previously attempted installing multiple ROMs multiple times using CWM to no avail so I re-rooted and switched over to Team Win. I know before installing a ROM you have to wipe your phone, well... I hit advanced wipe and within that I hit "system", went ahead and wiped. There's nothing left on my phone my phone and there are no ROMs on my SD card. I had backed up my phone before wiping but when I wiped that was also deleted. Before restarting it always warns me "No OS installed on your phone, are you sure you want to reboot?" Of course it's bricked and stays at the "Samsung Galaxy SIII" screen. I attempted putting a stock ROM back on my phone through ODIN, but a'las it didn't work (always stops at "SetupConnection"). I have nothing and there is no way for me to get a new ROM on the phone, I obviously cannot connect to my computer unless through download mode because the phone is bricked. So, what do I do? Is there any hope left for me or am I just completely screwed? The phone is less than a month old.
another option is to purchase a micro sd card and place a ROM and gapps (if required) on it, install the card and boot into recovery.
so when you connect your device to your pc, you're getting a yellow com connection in odin? what link did you follow for a stock ROM?
as long as you can still access recovery and download mode, there is hope, buddy.

Yeah, when I connect to the PC I get a yellow com connection in ODIN. I followed what is, perhaps, a sketchy looking link for the stock ROM... It's not letting me post a link because I'm a new member to the board, though I've looked over this place plenty of times in the past. Should I look for something a bit more official and retry? I don't think it's going to work. Will a ROM work, without an OS? I know that may sound silly but everything I've tried so far has failed.
here's a link to the stock firmware with root already injected: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
flash the tar in odin like you have been. make sure the auto reboot box is unticked. if you get a PASS after flashing, unplug the device, pull the battery, replace it and press the recovery button combo. once in recovery, wipe data and wipe cache. reboot.
lemme know if that worked, otherwise throw a ROM on a micro sd card as stated and go that route
btw, a ROM is the OS.
And also, my phone has to be rooted for a ROM to be installed, right? Well there's no guarantee my phone is still rooted since I've wiped literally everything on the phone. I like the idea of a placing it all on an SD card but that could be wasted money and I don't have very much money to spend, especially if a ROM isn't going to replace all of the needed system files which have been deleted.

Hello all,
I am a rookie user of smartphones and I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T. I accidentally wiped my OS leaving me with no OS. The good news is that I can still use Team Win and boot into recovery. How can I download and install a new OS? I live in a rural area with no place to go to get this fixed; so I would really appreciate any and all help on this matter. Thanks for reading

Chinese BML S4 stop on android screen after boot

Dear friends,
I'm new here...i have been hours and hours checking and studing the forum but nothing clear i got.
I have seen people with similar problem but nobody show a solution.
I got to root the phone and delete some apps i didn't need. But in some moment i deleted some file relationed with the launcher, i think.
Then, the screen turned black and when reboot the system all reboot correctly until appeared on the creen the words "android" with a little moving and that's all. The system don't reach the next pass and the launcher don't load.
I tried to wipe data/factory reset on android system recovery but nothing happends...i reboot the phone and the load system stop on the same image.
I don't know if i need to get the update.zip file to recover the phone or i need to install a rom.
Any idea? What can i begin for?
Thank you in advance
I can get start the phone but only can see calls, messages and camera applications. Home application is a black screen.
Anybody knows this mobile? Any web to find information or roms for it? Any launcher i can install from pc? Because google play aplications don't install automatically.
Only i know this is BML S4 but don't find any information about it on web.
Thanks you!

I have your exact same problem. You solved? I do not know how to do, I can not find the ROM. If you have news let me know. Hello
Hello together,

The phone dont start. Only black screen. Can i root it and make a new firmware on it ?
Where can i find a new firmware and how i do it ?
Thanks a lot.

Press both volume down (or up I do not remember) and power. The phone goes into recovery mode and restarts. Hello
@falconeroap
Hello.... thnaks for your advice. But I have do it very often. No reaction.
Or how long i must hold the buttons ? Maybe the phone is broken.
The first thing to do is to remove the battery for at least 15 seconds. Once this is done, then follow the steps that I've described. Hold the keys down for about 10 seconds. If the phone works should come on. Have you tried changing the battery?
---------- Post added at 01:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:23 PM ----------
What happened to you has happened to me too. The only way to restart our phones is to find a rom format "PAC" with its "FDL" files. If you can not find the ROM (firmware) we can share our phones. The procedure is very simple.
I know this way. I have also change the batterie. No chance. But i will test it again. Normaly the phone has no recovery when you buy one, or ?
I think is a trouble with the electronic, maybe.
but thanks...

root bml s4
Mauricio, there is a program that allows you to root your phone but simply advise you not to do it. My phone does not work anymore just because I uninstalled a system file ... If you want the procedure and the program will send them to you but you have to promise to send me the firmware (which you can obtain from the phone)
Rooting Chinese BML phone
Hi Falconero, thanks for your reply.
I would appreciate you giving me the program/procedure to root my phone.
You´ll see, this phone has to little internal memory, so I decide to delete some preloaded apps
and then install those I really need on the sd card.
Thats why I need to root it.
Concerning the possibility of erasing some system file, I hope I´ll be deleting things as facebook app , etcetera.
Regarding the sending of the firmware of my phone, no problem. you just tell me how to do it and I will send it to you.
One more thing what do you need the firmware for?

Bml s4 root permissions
Mjp9119 Hello, I read your message just now. The firmware can send it to the following email address: mattei.flash @ libero.it. For root permissions, no problem. I have the program on another laptop that has taken my brother. Tomorrow night or Sunday should be back and I can send you the program. It 's very simple to use but be careful! Hello and thank you.
---------- Post added at 02:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:37 PM ----------

Chinese BML S4
Hi again Falconero,
As I said before I´m a newbie, I don´t know how to extract the firmware, you tell me how to do it and I ´ll send it.
What caused your phone to malfunction?
Was it the program by itself or was it you deleting some required file?
Thank you

SGH-i747M - Failed flash wont turn on

Hey guys,
I messed up.. I flashed a modem for the updated version of S3RX, not my current version (4.2.1) and that resulted in a pretty hardcore brick. The only response its giving is the red light with the charger plugged in and battery removed, as well as the QHUSB_DL message on the computer when connected.
I tried imaging a debrick image onto a SD card, and doing that but it didn't work but I'll outline what I did anyway just encase I'm doing it wrong.
1. Using Patriot LX 32gb MicroSDHC card
2. Imaged a debrick file another user provided from their phone (4.2.1) using win32imager
3. Put the SD card in, no battery, power cord removed
4. Put battery in
5. Did button combination for download mode
6. Phone didn't respond
So is there anything else I can try or do I need to get someone to jtag it for me :/

Can you try it with a 16GB card? Ive had some people report failure(except one) with cards larger than 16GB and thus far everyone who has tried it with a 16GB have been succesful. (that I am aware of or atleast the ones who didnt flash a bootloader from a different device model)
Also I was told by -Mr. X- who is where I learned of this process that sometimes you may have to flash the IMG file on the sd card several times and try to access download mode several times before you obtain success.

I have a 32gb one, I'd have to buy a 16gb but I'm more than willing to do that
So when you say flash the IMG file on the sd card several times, do you literally mean do it once, twice, ect.. all in a row?? Because I've only been doing that once each time. I have tried the second part of what you were saying though, I did try many accessing download mode at least seven times

Is it possible you flashed the 4.3 bootloader? Perhaps something in the modem file is preventing the phone from debrick in with the older file? Okay, so I was in disk management to format the SD card so I could start fresh and the imagine file you linked, but I noticed like 14 partitions on it (That werent there before I should add).. I deleted them and went back to formatting, but left me with 29.26gb unallocated that I couldn't reformat.. I've only got 60mb on it now, and that's not even enough for the image
Any ideas what's going on?

GET a copy of mini partition wizard from here http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html Delete all the partitions on it then try to flash the .IMG file again.
when you get ready to use it in the phone again delete all partitions the phone will recognize it as unformatted and prompt you to format it.
when you write The .IMG file it formats and partitions the card to mirror the phones internal sd card.
Same boat
Hey guys! This seems like quite a coincidence to me, but last night I was flashing a new ROM and now my phone is doing the exact same thing as YUMZ. So, I just wanted to say thanks (YUMZ for getting this thread started and theramsey3 for providing the help). I really hope you get this figured out. I was pretty sure after hours of trying to fix it last night that I'd need a new phone.
YUMZ, have you tried using odin3? In v1.83 (only v1.83) I get a yellow com signal from the phone, but when trying to use it, it always hangs at SetupConnection. I don't know if this helps any.

I haven't tried doing that, I'll also do that tonight and post back if it does the same thing. Maybe if it does that'll have some significance that it can be fixed? Not sure

So I've rooted my phones for the last 5 years, nexus 1, droid, rezound, gs4, n5 and then the m8. finally i screwed up, and i was getting bootloops. in my slightly panicked state i managed to wipe the OS completely off of the device.
i can get into fastboot and from there also TWRP recovery. i've read a million threads, adb sideload, One_M8 all in one kit, etc....
I can't figure out how to now simply flash a stock ROM onto my device. can anyone spell it out in a way this idiot can get it? i;ve downloaded a gazillion things. i'm stuck. i had to go pay full retail for a phone because as a realtor i simply can't be without one even for a day. it's my lifeline. i'd like to fix this one so i can return the new one and save $700.
thanks.
When you say you wiped the OS, did you also clear the partitions? Are you booting into recovery by flashing TWRP and then booting into recovery... or are you booting into recovery via "fastboot boot"? If you have partitions still, you can use a USB OTG adapter and memory stick (or just sdcard) to store the firmware.zip file and flash it from TWRP.
IF, on the other hand, you wiped your partition table, you are in a bigger mess. It's possible a RUU can help, but I'm not familiar with them so can't comment beyond suggesting that you look into that more...
In the development section there is a system dump by (Mike1986). If your computer still recognizes your phone, download system dump to computer, copy it to your phone's internal storage, get into twrp and flash.

How would you go about copying to the phone's internal storage?
After downloading Rom right click on it select cut, go into your phone's storage on computer (as long as computer recognizes phone) find empty space right click and select paste.

Well considering your not the original poster, and I've read the original post several times and can't seem to find where it says it doesn't boot into android. I'm just trying to offer whatever help I can.

There is a DEV RUU out. You can use that. Or if you want ATT, or GPE, find the zips, and use fastboot commands to flash. If the computer can see the phone and you can issue commands, then there is nothing to worry about. Been there done that dozens of times with the M7. After playing with this M8, seems to be the same. Let us know where you are stuck, i.e. don't know the commands, or don't know where to find the zips.

He wiped the OS, which is Android, thus he can't just plug it in and transfer files back and forth anymore.

Surely if you've only deleted the OS just flash a nandroid from the stock backup thread via TWRP?

Have you got an external sd card? whack it on there using a card reader and flash from external sd
---------- Post added at 11:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:01 AM ----------
If that won't work on TWRP use philz
not sure if i wiped the partitions. don't think so.
i can't transfer files to the device, the pc recognizes it to give fastboot commands via a command prompt, but not as a removable device.
i'll get an sd card on my way home today and try flashing a rom using recovery.

oh pretty cool. i have the sd card now and going to try. otherwise i may take you up on your offer.
anyone have a link to the right ROM zip file to flash for AT&T version phone?
EDiT: NM Found the thread in the Development section. Flashed it. Currently it's booting up, Android is upgrading optimizing all apps.

very strange. after flashing and rebooting, i didn't have a clean install of Android, all my customizations and apps from before were installed. and i got the same random reboots. so all that info was still on the phone. went back into recovery and wiped everything, then re-flashed. now have a fresh clean install of stock 4.4.2
Thanks everyone! i kinda thought the sd card thing would be the easiest but the comments in this thread confirmed it and it worked.

That's the beauty of the sd card slot mate, i have saved my m8 countless times. i would always make a backup of your phone prior to tinkering but this really helps save ur ass if you forget to backup.
Glad everything is ok and that this simple solution worked :highfive::good:

[Q] Whoops...messed up and need to restore ROM...

Hi there -
I recently bought a D851 LG G3 from someone who told me they had rooted and unlocked it using PurpleDrake, but otherwise had left it as stock. I like the phone quite well overall, but the oversharpening on text was really bugging me. I noticed that there's a thread with a fix for that (here) and figured I'd try it out.
First, I installed TWRP using the TWRP Manager app from the Play Store. Second, I rebooted into TWRP and installed the .zip file for the Sharpening Mod. All seemed to go okay -- I got to the part of the Mod asking me for sharpening level, and it finished successfully -- but when I rebooted the phone, it's stuck in a loop where it shows the LG logo for a few seconds, then reboots. Being the bonehead that I am, I forgot to backup the existing ROM before I did this.
So that leaves me with two questions:
1. How do I get the phone functional again? I was happy enough with the previous ROM and am not necessarily looking for a custom ROM, but if there's one that's very stable and that people recommend, I'm open to that. I'm hoping to get Lollipop on the phone once LG releases it, so I'd like to avoid doing anything that will interfere with that.
2. Did I do something wrong when trying to install the Sharpening Mod? I'd really like to get that issue fixed...without screwing up the phone in the process.
Thanks!
Uh oh... Flame on?

Why's that? I did some searching before posting this request -- hadn't seen a way to restore without losing root. If that's the only option, then fine, but I was hoping to see if there's a way to avoid having to re-root it. And I think the question of what ROM to use (Stock or if there's a Custom one that's stable and popular) so I can update to Lollipop when it comes out isn't unreasonable.
Also, even if I do have to go back to Stock and re-root, I was asking if I did something wrong in applying the Sharpening Mod -- so I can fix that issue properly next time. Again, my search didn't show any obvious answer to that question.

He said that because you posted in the android development section not the QA section cause clearly this is a question. Just ask a mod to move it before you get flamed

But I shall try and help and not be a flamer. Are you able to get to the bootloader or recovery?

Yes, I can get into TWRP recovery. Rather than invoke further ire, is it better to do this via PMs?

Try just reflashing a kernel if u have one on either ur phone or SD card. If u don't, download one onto ur PC (skydragon kernel would be my suggestion), boot into recovery, mount ur phone as MTP device, copy kernel to SD card and then flash kernel.

Thanks, that worked just fine...did exactly as you advised (Skydragon kernel and all). Then re-installed the Sharpening Mod fix and it all seems to have worked this time. Appreciate the help (and the education about not posting to the wrong sub-forum!).
