Has anyone ever come across a male to female ExtUSB extension lead?
Google and ebay throughs up nothing. Perhaps someone knows of a company (UK ideally) that makes bespoke USB cables? I think I'm going out on a limb with this one.
First, I dont have any exact solution for your problem, but I'm wondering, why are you looking for that?
If you were to do an extension on the data cable, you can get yourself a standard USB extension lead, and have the data cable extended.
If you were to do an extention on the audio cable, you can get those extUSB-to-3.5/2.5mm audio-jack and get a standard audio cable/earphone for the job.
UPDATE: Ok, I see what you are trying to do in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342382
Can you elaborate the 3-in-1 thing you mentioned there? it is just a splitter/hub, which uses extUSB for all?
Great investigative work Hanmin. As you saw the objective is a car 'install' with one wire leading to the device (kaiser), and the 3-in-1 adtaper hidden away. So the extension needs to be about 1meter and carry the HTC ExtUSB spec of power and audio signal (hands free doesn't matter to me though).
In actual fact, a 3-in-1 adapter with a 20cm lead would be sufficient, but none of them seem to be longer than 5cm.
The extension can be found here. Or image attached.

Anyone come up with an EXTUSB extension cable? I'd really like to have just one cable coming out of the phone when in the car, and keep the splitters tucked away neatly behind the dashboard.

I just ordered two of them, but haven't received them yet. They emailed that they shipped from Honk Kong the next day. however!
Hope this might work for you!
***UPDATE*** I just received the cables today (1/4/08). Just what the doctor ordered! I use it with the Motorola Mini-USB "Y" adapter SKN6222A to power both my phone and a bluetooth GPS head from the same power plug. The extension lets me keep the phone mounted on a dash vent and the GPS on the top of the dashboard.
Posted in the thread linked above as to why that doesnt work for me, anyone come up with a way to extend the 11pin extusb? Im crap with a soldering iron, but if it comes to it...
Im in the exact same boat as the OP, have the 3 in 1 and it looks horrible with the 3 cables dangling out of it, want it hidden behind the dash.
Again, not exactly what you are looking for but maybe of use. The Brodit HTC Touch Pro Holder with 3-in-1 Adapter (http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=173938) is a mount with an included 15cm extUSB to 3 port adapter. Not sure if the 40cm cable is long enough, but it could be taken off of the mount i would think. A bit of a waste to have to buy a mount just to get a cable, but might be your best option.
I don't understand why no-one has made an extUSB extension cable or a longer extUSB to 3 port cable.
german company sells the plugs, so you could make your own cable...
wanna order a few and let us know how it turns out?

Hey all. I resell ProClip products and have been trying to help out some customers with solutions for their Hero in the car. Looks like no one has any stock solutions for a longer cable to create a cleaner install outside of buying one of these:
ww_w._proclipusa.com/image.aspx/media/images/products/devicecradle/843773.jpg-225x
(sorry. can't post links yet. how do I go about getting verified?)
and disassembling the cable. So who'd be interesting in buying that 15.75" cable separately? I'm working on getting them to sell the cable separately. That'll be the first solution for HTC owners. My second attempt is getting them to make an adjustable holder for HTC phones and see if they can make the height of the connector adjustable. Since they'll never make that kind of cradle for all HTC phones, at least they can cover all their bases with that type of cradle.
Let me know if anyone has interest, and I can keep you posted.
Ryan
i will be keen on the extension cable! I have the same problem as trying to hide the fm transmitter and also an adaptor (to charge the fmtalk & phone at the same time...) in the car.
extension cable
I would love to buy an extension cable
I bought these on ebay. The HDMI is short but worked but when I connect both cables to lapdock, the USB is not being recognized so the keyboard/mouse is not working. I want this just to act as an extension so I can use full lapdock abilities with cables. Any idea what's going on (cable charges on plug but does not charge on lapdock)? Maybe someone has better usb cables.

From your title I've been looking for these (or similar) cables for a long time and have been unsuccessful. However I have yet to try them.

i don't think it will work either way, tried a few things like this with no avail.
why wouldn't they? Cheap build quality that doesn't include the data wires? Hell I'll be willing to splice two cables together to get our desired effect, the only problem is that cords with a female micro usb are incredibly hard to come by
So that is what you think it is? No data on the usb cables.

the only reason that is my suspicion is because there are many "charging" products out there that don't really need data. Why there would be a need for such a small charging extension cable is beyond me, but it's the only solution I can think of, but I have no way of confirming or denying it either. The ebay descriptions seem to imply that the data wires are there, but we all know how reliable ebay can be...
Another idea I had was that it might be sensing the resistance in the cable, since, if I remember correctly, that was how some think/though the car dock puts the atrix into car mode without a magnet as is/was commonly used. Again these are just ideas.
Or the cable is just so poorly made that it's defective...I honestly have no clue
Has anyone got full lapdock capabilities using extension cables? I can only get the screen working and not the mouse and keyboard.
The HDMI extender was the hard one to find. There are other micro USB extenders out there, theoretically with all wires connected....
http://www.usbfirewire.com/uextendmicrob.html
Kind of makes me wish i hadn't hacked up my lapdock to work with the Otterbox
Where did you get your HDMI extender? I got mine from All4Cellular but it's quite short. Will have to get another HDMI one if the usb cable you recommended works.

before I read that post, I was looking around the forums and the web yesterday well into the night. here are some of the things I've found that might be relevant to everyone (and it might possibly be cheaper, though more diy).
Micro USB stuff:
I have no idea why this exists http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-...r-cable-for-blackberry-9900-black-30cm-107901
I have no idea why this only has 4 pins http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9614

Here's what I am thinking about doing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140626354628#ht_2821wt_1177 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-HDMI-...ultDomain_0&hash=item415eac6dc0#ht_2821wt_980
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Female-M...YPB4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329854686&sr=8-2
then the hdmi cable that came with our phone:
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Stan...QTA8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1329854856&sr=8-8
The HDMI certainly looks like it may work but the reason I didn't buy that product from ebay a few weeks ago was because it was $50. Now miraculously, it's only $6. Maybe I'll get that if the USB cable I just bought that was suggested works a few posts back.

This micro usb extension cord explicitly states that all 5 wires are connected (compatible with droid bionic for the purpose of docking with a case on the phone):

I bought the HDMI extension cable and the USB cable above. I have a lapdock so I'll post if it works.
everything asked/answered in here is already covered in the original thread:

The HDMI cable seems to work. On the lapdock, with just the HDMI cable hooked up, it functions like it was it's an entertainment center.
The USB cord will need to be modified a little bit. I can't get it to seat right on the USB jack of the dock. I'll need to shave it down a bit as it doesn't sit down snugly.

I ordered the USB cable and experience this same problem, though I am waiting for my hdmi parts to come in (by April 6th I should have all my parts...). The cable itself works flawlessly as a micro usb extension cable when connecting it to the computer.
again as mentioned in the other thread, you want to be careful with the 5v coming out that micro hdmi port. for connecting back to your phone would be no issue, as the phone charges using this voltage, but hooking the lapdocks micro usb up to a host device probably wont appreciate the 5v coming back up the cable, where normally the usb device would be pulling power from said host, not providing it.
one suggestion is to just clip the red wire inside your micro usb cable/adapter.
btw the adapters i use do fit snugly side by side, without modification.
I've been following this thread for a little while now, and I wanted to share something I found.
I was looking at the Motorola Travel Webtop adapter. And I was curious to see whether it could be tweaked to suite our needs. I naively thought/hoped that I could flip the connectors in the device to make a small adapter to connect the Atrix to newer Lapdocks. Unfortunately as you can see in the pictures below (sorry not enough posts to link to the pictures) the two connectors are connected via a PCB not wires or a ribbon cable. Although I still have high hopes that I can de-solder the HDMI and USB connectors, and use a small length of flat ribbon cable to connect them and then re-positions the connectors in the case, to build a micro adapter to use the Atrix on the newer Lapdocks. Should this fail this will at least prevent others from making the same mistake, and solve the mystery of what's really inside the Webtop Travel adapter.
Do any one know if this Micro HDMI Cable would work for Lapdock.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Feet-HDMI...s_Adapters&hash=item416612cecb#ht_1149wt_1187
Description says for Asus tf201 MEMO ME171.
I believe all Cables are standard. Can this used to Atrix 4g with Lapdock?
I have otterbox case for Atrix and don't want to Remove cover everytime to plug in Lapdock.
Does anyone happen happen to know, specificly (ie. manufacturer, or distributor part number or model number) what USB connector the KF uses?
I just bought a used KF and the connector is failing. I have someone that can attach a new one for me but I haven't been able to figure out what connector to buy. Lots of searching and looking at pictures but i haven't been able identify it for certain. If I have to, I will pull the board and look at it but I thought I would ask first.
Thanks

I probably cant help you much but I use 2 different ones both non stock. one is for my droidx seems a little loose but it functions. The other is made by belkin standard usb to micro for media transfer this one is a little tight. when you say fail can you clarify that?
Thanks for your help. I am looking for the connector that is soldered to the motherboard inside the KF not a cable. When I plug a cable in the connection is very loose and I have to wiggle the cable a lot to make a connection and if I let go of the cable the connection fails. I have tried several cables, as well as, the wall charger, all with the same results so I am sure it is the connector on the motherboard. The cables work fine on my other devices.
Thanks again for your help.

its sound more like a loose fitting cable than the connection point itself I wouldnt know how to go about replacing the device end. Possibly might require a new motherboard to do so unless your pretty crafty. Wish I could be more help to you.
The belkin brand is much tighter fit I purchased it at target 16$
He guys new to the forum, have a question for some help, I'm going to add an external USB port, because that part of my mother board is shot from some previous shotty solder work from someone, anyways, I'm trying to figure out where to solder the 5 wires, the pads from the old port are crap, trying to find somewhere else to solder wires, any help would be appreciated.
Hi All,
Long time listener but first time poster. I recently installed a Eonon ga6163f into a Mazda 3 and have a customer ROM image running after a load of reading and trial and error. All seems reasonably good considering the hardware isn't new nor that capable by todays standards. I am going for it and looking to include a DAB+ USB adapter. I do not have any HA to USB cables and aren't able to find a source for these. I will need to roll my own.
Would anyone be kind enough to share the USB pinout - maybe a close up photo of the cable on the HA side that plugs into the 'H' port of the ga6163f?
Any details of where each pin goes, such as if it is for USB1 or USB2.
I have only been able to find snippets of details but not enough to clearly figure out which port is USB1 or USB2 and the corresponding VCC, GND or data pins for each USB port. There also looks to be an RCAish looking lead in that cable bundle also. No idea what that one is for either but I don't think I'll be needing it.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
