Howdy kids...
I am getting a "notification" that I have an email that failed to send. When I click on it it takes me to the sending folder of one of my email accounts but its empty. I check all the other accounts and they are empty as well. If I clear the notifications it goes away but will return on phone reboot.
I thought about clearing the mail apps cache but was uncertain as to any issues with doing this.
Any ideas of what to do to get rid of that annoying notification??
thanks!

This happens with Verizon too. Very annoying and wish I could clear the failure. I tried deleting the mail account and re-adding it but that didn't help either.

Another Exchange-related bug. Any ideas?
A couple of users are finding that emails they've sent from the Desire are remaining in the outbox and the recipient is getting multiple copies of the email. For example, my boss sent me a meeting invite just before the weekend and he was slightly aggrieved to have received 50 copies of my acceptance, come Monday!
I had noticed that my acceptance was stuck in the outbox and had attempted to sync many times before I just deleted the outgoing item in disgust. Well it turns out that the mail app was sending okay but not deleting once sent.
This is happening with ordinary message replies too. I have not yet discovered a common theme. Anyone else had similar problems?
This is happening with Exchange 2003 SP2.
Just bumping this back to the front page... I wonder if we could do with a sub-forum for email issues?!
Hi Rob - SouthBarn back again. I am having very similar problems. Can receive but can't send. Emails are stuck in outbox and I get multiple "cannot send" notifivations. Don't actually get the multiple sends though?
Thought I'd solved the earlier problem by deleting and re-instating the acount on the Desire, but that dodn't work this time around.
I also have Exchange Server 2003 R2. Driving me nuts! Orange UK don't seem to be able to help.
Also have intermittent data connctions problems. Have tried the Modaco APN settings but they don't seem o help with the connection. If anything its worse.
Southbarn again. Just noticed a very small discrete error messeage on the desire if you try to force a sync on the following page:
(menu button) > settings > Accounts & sync >Exchange Active Sync
If hit the "sync now" button and it fails to send an email (which is does!) there is an error message just above the "sync now" button:
"there were some socket errors while connecting to the server"
This is a clue but how to resolve...?
Sounds like a protocol error - probably another poor implementation by Google/HTC.
I'm trialing TouchDown - so far so good.
Outbox now working - why?
Wierd thing happened. I downloaded Touchdown as you had done to see if there was a way out of the problem, and lo and behold, the Exchange Active Sync app start working again - an email that had ben sitting in my outbox for days suddenly became sent. Coincidence?
Still working 24hrs later on both apps on wifi and 3G
Will continue to monitor and report.
Would like to know what is going on. Would prefer the on board app to work properly than use 3rd party.

The (non-free) Touchdown Exchange client does not have this problem. I don't know if HTC or Google is planning to fix the fault in the stock mail app any time soon.
I have been having a problem with my emails not syncing/notify me this also happens with the hey tell app. The email I'm using is the evo stock email app, not gmail. If I go into the apps they will start to sync and show all the new messages. my setting for syncing have not changed. I did start to notice it after the last ota update.
any tips on fixing this?
Thanks in advanced.
Just to confirm, you do have it set to auto-sync in settings right?
Auto sync is on. Is there a way to clear cache and reset the email app?
Thanks for your quick response

This is the first thing i've found for cache clearing: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-cerisierbleu-qac-njjC.aspx
i have NOT tried it yet, so be cautious.
as far as resetting the email app, i haven't found any info on that.
Not the end of the world, but slightly annoying. No matter what I do, I cant seem to get rid of the number "7" on my Email icon indicating there are 7 unread messages. Even if the inbox is empty.
Im running Calk v1.5 and pulled the Email and Exchange apk's from the AOKP Rom because it has better functionality than the Calk Email version. Exchange is working fine, but the "7" indicating new messages wont go away on the icon. Ive tried to wipe data from Email and Exchange apps and delete the apk's from the system/app folder, and tried to reinstall, reboot the phone, etc. No matter what I do, as soon as I drop the apk's back into the system folder or click the apk to install them again, the email icon comes back with the "7" indicator. Is there something else I can clear or delete to refresh the icon/indicator itself?
Attached a screenshot.

Maybe check online to the email client you're on and make sure the program is synced properly. Happened to me with Gmail before and the app showed all messages read, but online via a browser showed unread messages.

Thanks for the feedback but its not a sync issue. Outlook client and browser/webmail confirm there arent 7 unread messages anywhere (inbox, trash, folders, etc). Even if I dont configure Email or Exchange after I reinstall the apk's, the "7" is there on the icon.
Try wiping app data and also your phones cache/dalvik-cache

go sms notification wont go away
I'm having the same issue but with go sms. I get 4 new messages notifications, but there aren't any new messages. I cant get it to go away at all. Im running CM9 v4. Maybe it is related to the phantom vm issue.
Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone knows whats going on with this or if it is just my phone. I get emails to my phone instantly no problem, but when I delete them from my phone (this is all through the gmail app) they aren't deleted when I check them on my PC. The phone shows they are deleted because I did the delete from the phone, but on my PC the emails are still sitting there unread. I gave it about 15-20 minutes to see if it was just a sync issue, but they didn't seem to be deleted. Any one notice this as well? My epic 4g touch definitely deleted my emails. Thanks for any help!

I am having the same issue. Resolve it yet?
Sometimes there is a sync issue with Gmail app and Gmail. I would try to clear cache and data from the Gmail app and un-check sync from your accounts. Then recheck sync.... It's something to try.
Hello,
I have a note 3 and galaxy gear. After updating to kitkat I have this problem with the phone constantly notifying me of new emails, even though I have already acknowledged the email. Prior to updating, I was able to swipe the new email notification and It would not renotify me until a new email was received, now after about every 15 mins I get a notification to my phone and my gear saying there is a new email even though its the same email as before.
The only way to stop my phone from renotifying me is to delete the email completely. I have ensured that Gmail notifactions are off, and am only using the email samsung app.
This was working fine before but now I am going crazy and not even wearing my watch because it is so damn annoying.

update.
I have removed the gmail account from the 'accounts' area of settings and re added it. I am still getting a notice of new emails every 15 mins (the sync setting) regardless of having a new email or not.
I cannot find anyone else having this issue... and i have 5 email accounts tied to this phone, and only the primary/default account is having this persistent notification issue.
Any ideas?

I have also cleared all data and cache for the email app.... as soon as I add my gmail account it starts notifying me every sync of the first email in my inbox.
I guess I am going to go to tmobile and get a new phone unless anyone has any other ideas.

I checked my gmail settings from a computer, and it shows IMAP and POP enabled.
For some odd reason it appears the issue may have been resolved, and I have not modified anything since again deleting the data/cache.
Should POP be disabled and only IMAP enabled? the phone is set up to utilize IMAP not POP.

Your phone had a hiccup. Not a hardware issue. It happened from time to time. It self fixed itself when it got caught up.
