I got my Evo 3 days ago. So on the second day I rooted it/installed sprint lovers rom. Well AFTER i rooted the stock rom did the nandroid backup. Also when I bought the phone I was on firmware 3.26 so I had to update a lot of stuff to 3.29 and other things before rooting. So the problem is the phone will fully charge on the wall to usb charger but when I plug it into my computer it seems not to charge all the way, just halfway. So what I did was went back to stock rom when I rooted it. BUT I'm not sure if it's really back on stock rom fully because when I installed the Sprint Lovers rom it UPDATED my kernel/wimax/radio firmwares
So I want to get back my stock settings so I can see if it's something to do with this rom I installed.
Note: I wiped 3 things. The cache, BATTERY STATUS, and something else I forgot what it was called.
Update: well I'm using a app called "cellumap" it shows the battery percent. at 62% I took my phone off the wall to usb charger and plug my phone into USB mode. now it's at %64 in 5 mins. It just seems to be charging slow to me. I've had this phone for like 3 days so I really don't know the charging time it take for this phone.
What I'm going to do now is install nonsense custom rom and see if installing a new rom will also change my kernel/wimax/radio firmware because I think something fishy is going on with kernel firmware and my battery
Flashing a ROM won't update your radio or wimax.
Also, 2% in 5 minutes seems pretty normal to me.
Howdy - I've had this problem with both my 001 and 004 Evo's.
After flashing a radio on the first one and a ROM on the other - charging no longer works. It works fine when the phone is off - but it won't connect at all to a computer or to the charger if on. I've tried 6 different chargers and multiple cords.
I found a solution earlier by flashing PC136 off the SD card and going back to stock. From there I rooted the phone using unrEVOked then reflashed into Savaged-Zen which went into a boot loop - as well as any other AOSP ROM I tried. The only ROMs that would flash and not boot loop are Sprint Lovers, VaelPak and other sense based ROMs.
Currently I'm on VaelPak and just installed the newest netarchy SBC kernel. Now the USB no longer works again. I reflashed PC136 and redid all of that and went back into VaelPak and the charging worked. As soon as I restored my apps through Titanium and reflashed any kernel, it no longer works.
TL;DR - In custom ROMs the USB port no longer functions when the phone is on. It works when it is off. How can I prevent/fix this?
try using a non-sbc kernel and see if charging works? that's the only thing I could think of
You know about the wide spread issues with the EVO's charging port in general correct? I've had to replace 3 phones at our company with that problem.
I don't think hes experiencing the charge problem as it charges fine without that kernel. Have you tried a different cable? I have had the charge problem but its always been the cable. I've been through 3 cables, maybe I'm just bandaiding the problem but it seems to charged like new with a fresh cable.
I've tried several different cables but just to be safe I bought a new one yesterday - no dice.
I'm going to redo everything step by step so I can figure out where this occurs. Am I really the only one that's had this problem? I know at least two other people that have had it but can't find anyone online.
Well - reinstalled VaelPak and now charging works so I do think it has something to do with the kernel.
My only problem now is the phone refuses to install -ANY- AOSP ROM. I've tried MIUI, one of the Virus, Evervolv, and SavagedMod. Any ideas?
Hi,
I bought my Note 2 about 2 weeks ago and kept it to OTA Updates, until recently updated via ODIN and CWM to a few different Original Custom FWs (PA3, RootBox, Carbon, ETC)
Thing is, i like charging my phone overnight, and it just freezes right when i plug it into the charger if the phone is turned off, even if it's on the power block that came with the phone box or via any usb port in my computer.
I've read that it's the kernel, but i've tried many kernels (perseus, limaro, neak, etc) and it always freezes. Also tried different base (official stock roms from sammobile, but i confess i haven't tried charging with stock because i always root it, and cwm it and custom rom it right away, i have no plans on coming back to stock)
I know this is no dealbreaker, but i'd like to be able to do it, since i only like to charge the phone once in a day, and it's when i'm sleeping.
Appreciate any help, thanks in advance.
Bump!
Factory reset.

I did, CWM Fatory Data/Cache Wipe and didn't work, not sure if it's the same from the rom factory reset option, willing to try (and reinstall everything from scratch) if you or anyone confirms this.
Thanks.

I did, Doesn't work with the original, or with any other, or USB to PC, just freezes, however it works on stock rom, just not any custom rom.
Thanks.
Try a super wipe and flash back stock rom. We need to cross out custom roms.

It charges while off on Stock ROM just fine, Just not on ANY CUSTOM 4.1.2/4.2.2 AOSP/AOKP, went to stock and came back to, say Carbon, or Rootbox with no luck, Still unable to charge while off,
Try not to undervolt it...when you try to undervolt too much there will be freezes when you lock the screen.. i had the same problem..
Thats my advice..
Make full wipe and install a custom rom..at the very first boot..try to access to stweak...grant it root pernission...and overvolt every cpu frequency step by+50mV.
Give it a try...i hope i helped you...ifbyes ..plz hit the thanks button..
If you have further question...feel free to pm me..or start a new thread.

It just started happening to me a few days ago on Jedi Master ROM... was working fine for about a month... if the screen stays off for a while or if it's charging for awhile it locks up... have to pull the battery
Have the same problem on slimbean 4.2.2 rom

Similar problem here, whenever screen is off for more than 8 seconds it will not wake up... Any ideas? I am trying stock roms and others, no solution so far...
Same problem with my GT-N7100.
I've tried both CWM & TWRP. It happens after flashing stock ROM to any of 4.3 AOSP based (CM10.2, ReVolt, Carbon, AOKP). When I'm trying to charge in power-off state, empty battery with white circle on center appears and freezes. Device doesn't charge and the only way to boot something (recovery/bootloader/system) is to reinsert the battery.
Changing build-in kernel to N.E.A.K. didn't help either.
I'm out of options. Please help :crying:
Happened here exactly after downgrading from 4.3 custom back to stock Samsung ROM. Of course lost IMEI but I managed to fix it and after applying ARIZA patch all worked well, however I flashed another stock, bit never and freezing started... Out of options so far as well. I will keep trying.
EDIT: Tried suggested in another thread RECOVERY software, however ODIN fails on sboot.bin every time...
My guess - trouble is in AOSP kernel. For example, if you install any AOSP based ROM and then install N.E.A.K. v2.2x SAMSUNG FW kernel (for TouchWiz) - problem goes away. You can't start ROM after that, but that's not the point.
I think we should post our issue in some kernel development discussion, like N.E.A.K. and hope they find solution.
btw 4.2 and 4.3 ROMs both has that issue.

Just installed Omnirom 4.4.2 on my Note 10.1 (2012) and am having the same issue. As soon as I dock it / charge it when locked, can't unlock and it appears to crash. I did not have this issue with stock.
Any further progress?
Thanks in advance.
Anybody ever found a solution for this? My note 2, N7100 hangs if charged when switched off.
Only when switched off, I shows the battery with the white circle and that's it.
AOSB KK 1.3.6, 4.4.4, krn 3.0.64-CM, latest modem, TWRP etc.

Hi,
I've flashed PA many times before on my Nexus 4, and I was using PA 3.99 before I decided to try using CM11 (cause kitkat). Well, CM11 worked fine, but I wanted to go back to PA, however, when I tried flashing the rom, it took much longer than usual, and then when my phone finally booted up, neither the sound nor the wifi would work. I first noticed this when the phone was setting up, as the second thing a new android phone asks you to do is to turn on your wifi. My phone just said "turing on wifi" for a good five minutes until I skipped it. Once I finally finished setting the phone up, I tried turing up the sound but it wouldn't work. Of course, I can't really use my phone if the sound won't work at all, so I decided to flash CM11 again, and then everything was working properly. Since then I've tried PA and CM again, AOKP, and PAC rom, but CM is the only one that worked for my phone. The sound and wifi didn't work on any of the other three roms. If anybody could help, that'd be great!! Otherwise I'll have to stick to CM11 even though I'd like to go back to PA.
SOLUTION FOUND
For anyone with a similar issue: My problem was that I was running CM11, which uses android 4.4, so it seemed that the issue was caused by flashing to a rom that used an earlier version of android. I solved the problem by unrooting my phone and reverting back to 4.2. Then I rooted the device again and flashed PA 3.99, then everything was fine.

Thank you !!!
it's Work !
Bought a new SanDisk Ultra Dual usb 32gb for my S3. Both SanDisk and Samsung agree that it is OTG compatible. But when i plug the usb on my phone, nothing shows. I've tested on several HTC phones and even a Galaxy S5 and it works there but not on my S3.
Phone is rooted running on stock 4.4.4 kitkat rom.
OTG is not working at all in all roms kk 4.4.4 I've tried. Anyway, I think in based samsung roms, it doesn't work either...
OTG comes with the official samsung stock rom, and it deppends on the kernel, you could search for an alternative kernel for samsung based or aosp based roms, but I think you will find under 4.4.4 version.
I picked up a 16GB SanDisk Dual about a month ago. At the time my i747 was on a custom TW rom based on Android 4.3 with the MJ2 bootloader and MJB modem. The drive worked well on that ROM. It also worked well on my Acer 4.4.x tablet. I have since upgraded the phone to the NE4 bootloader and modem and installed CM11 and the drive still works over OTG. In fact I have used in on the phone, tablet, and a linux laptop in the past 24 hours.
Me too, but i fixed it.
1. Download from play store "USB OTG checker", its icon is a USB logo with a green tick on it. Open it and it should show 1 or 2 red X:
If yes, click on fix, give su permission and reboot.
If no, go to next step.
2. If it doesn't work with the fix it's a hardware problem (I had it too).
Cut a piece of paper/plastic sheet (better) and slide it under the USB port contact. Try to plug in your OTG and... Voilà! It should work!
If it doesn't reply or send PM, I could help you maybe.
